Reviews for The Close Hotel
Review 1:Tiny snag was with heavy winds the windows rattled etc so a little noisey
Review 2:Good relaxed atmosphere lovely suite the bath was fantastic Food was excellent
Review 3:The location was fantastic and the room was beautifully proportioned and very well decorated. The understated feel suited us and the staff were excellent. Breakfast was also very good.
Review 4:Nothing.
Review 5:Everything!.. It was just fabulous. I am going back. The staff were the best I have encountered for years!. Brillient. The room was spacious cosy clean just amazing.
Review 6:We would've preferred some simpler, plainer dining options particularly as I wasn't feeling too well. However, we didn't ask so I don't know if we could've been catered for or not.
Review 7:Stayed in the Nightingale room which has a fabulous en-suite; double walk-in showers, roll top bath, TV, all very swish! Amazingly comfortable bed and a lovely view over the garden. All the roaring log fires were so cheery and welcoming. We loved the place.
Review 8:Hotel was warm and welcoming, considering the age of the building. Room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast had a great choice of hot and cold food.
Review 9:Not a great deal of eating choices within Tetbury- although the Priory Inn is worth a visit
Review 10:Very smart, yet old hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Easy walk to everything in Tetbury. Excellent breakfast.
Review 11:Great location right in the heart of the town. Despite this , a very quiet hotel. Really nice decor, breakfast was excellent with a great range of food well prepared. Paid for the superior double room and this was well worth it.
Review 12:Rainfall showers but no shower caps! The duvet smelt of dry damp as did the wardrobe. Robin room above the lobby tends to be noisy, especially in the evening so if you're hoping for peace and quiet ask for a room facing the garden.
Review 13:The staff were courteous, the garden well kept and the breakfasts were satisfying.
Review 14:We had a warm welcome from staff throughout our one night stay. Breakfast overlooking a magnificent garden was matched by the excellent breakfast itself. Our very special anniversary was made extra special. Many thanks.
Review 15:Bedroom up in the eves of building. Average decor. Bathroom spartan. Bar/sitting room not very country Inn homely. Had to go to bar to get served.
Review 16:Friendly receptionist. Nice courtyard garden.
Review 17:We were not impressed with the "Fine Dining". It was hardly that and we could only smile at four of the smallest and thinest pieces of cheese that were served up, albeit with good biscuits. Given the cost of the room we had I would have expected better and very glad we did not go for the upgrade.
Review 18:This is a fine building with newly decorated rooms. It has a pleasant garden at the rear which would be lovely in the summer. The hotel also has direct access into the main centre of Tetbury with good shops.
Review 19:Food was disappointing in that one steak was very poor - sinewy and inedible. Staff were quick to recognise it, however, and made it up.
Review 20:Very pleasant atmosphere. Attentive, friendly and professional staff.
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:The hotel was excellent - one of the best we have stayed in in the UK. The rooms were very high spec and the bed extremely comfortable. Dinner in their Brasserie was first class and very deserving of its 2 rosettes. Breakfast was excellent also - great choices and very good buffet - we even had fresh honey comb. All in all 10 out of 10 !!!
Review 23:Beautiful old, classy building. Our room was fabulous! Nice devote, sitting area, makeup table and spacious bathroom. The staff is fabulously friendly, especially Kim and Aimee(manned the downstairs desk), And also the girls who served us breakfast (included) each morning.
Review 24:Not a bad experience, but morning coffee quite weak, and I like mine strong!
Review 25:The building, its central location and its decor. And particularly appreciated the parking facility.
Review 26:One or two of the staff could smile a little more and give the impression that they enjoy their job.
Review 27:We have stayed at the Close before and love the Hotel, however, this was the best room yet and the food was fantastic!
Review 28:Excellent rooms and facilities. The staff were helpful and attentative at all times. High St location for everything you need combined with lovely private garden at the rear with parking. Book here with confidence.
Review 29:Just felt breakfast was a little basic. Small portions of cooked food, and incorrect order brought out twice.
Review 30:Great location. Top facilities. Very welcoming staff. Beautiful room and bathroom. Wonderful building. Really impressed.
Review 31:This beautiful hotel is in a great location in the Cotswolds , fantastic country side, the food was excellent the room comfortable and attractive .the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 32:A very, very, tiny point. At dinner, I wouldn't bother ordering the starter of chicken nuggets, beans and chips. A very clever take on the concept but there's not much even a very good chef can do with chicken nuggets!
Review 33:Overall, restful ambience and helpful, pleasant and welcoming staff. A very good restaurant and bar and the rooms are great (ours was very spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable). The garden and terrace are beautiful for sitting out and just doing nothing. Everything about The Close is just right!
Review 34:Over seasoned vegetable with dinner, really salty. Somewhat pretentious menu and not catering for vegetarians.
Review 35:excellent staff, most helpful and obliging . Perfect location in centre of Tetbury.
Review 36:A charming hotel, decoration in modern country style. Room and bathroom very comfortable. Food good and staff friendly and professional. All in all, delightful.
Review 37:Not being able to contact the hotel directly. I'd explained I needed help to get to Highgrove with the agency when booking, but when I arrived it seemed to be a big issue to get at taxi. One was found but I think it was very expensive for a 6 minute ride which I could have walked.
Review 38:Just about everything, except:
Review 39:Nothing. Everything was what I wished for
Review 40:The hotel was really comfortable and in a good location to tour the Cotswolds. Tetbury is also a good town to stay in and has additional eating and drinking possibilities
Review 41:Not much. wifi go be a bit iffy in certain areas
Review 42:High quality hotel newly refurbished. Good service with attention to detail. Great food and good value Prix fix lunch menu. Nice garden setting for meals.
Review 43:Beautifully appointed hotel, lovely design in the rooms, bathrooms have everything you need, staff helpful and charming. Good restaurant and parking to the rear. What else would one want!
Review 44:VERY long wait for breakfast - and tables only laid up at back of room so not able to sit near window. Lovely room but at top of long spiral staircase with no lift. Had to carry my own bag up and down - not too good for my 2 hip replacements!!
Review 45:Lovely hotel - beautiful grounds in centre of town and near to other facilities in Cotswolds
Review 46:Husband's main course one night wasn't particularly good - battered fish, with lots of batter and little fish, but this was dealt with pleasantly and without fuss, and we were not charged for it.
Review 47:Location is perfect with a lovely garden. Lovely furnishings and very relaxed atmosphere.
Review 48:We liked it all.
Review 49:We were upgraded to 'Doves' which was a beautiful room with a gorgeous bathroom. We love the enclosed garden and sat in the sun with a cream tea. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 50:Quite small portions of hot breakfast, but tasty again.
Review 51:Beautiful rooms and garden. Lovely building. Staff were wonderful, especially the girl on reception the night we arrived. Evening meal was very tasty.
Review 52:Only problem was that the room was very hot
Review 53:Location perfect for shopping & eating in Tetbury. Chose hotel as we had tickets for Highgrove and it made our trip even more special.
Review 54:No negatives at all.
Review 55:Excellent location in centre of Tetbury. We had a very good spacious room which was quiet at night and very clean. Liked dining areas and nice lounge. Good that hotel has its own car park.
Review 56:Nothing the stay was lovely
Review 57:The room was excellent and the staff very extremely friendly and helpful. The room was very quiet and the breakfast was great
Review 58:Thought the fry up for breakfast was ordinary.
Review 59:Luxury of room. Friendly staff. Deck chairs in the garden. Very relaxing. Sunday lunch excellent. Choice of breakfast excellent, walnut bread and honey, yummy.
Review 60:Portion size of meals too small, needed to be 30% bigger. This was rectified and compensated, for which I was grateful, but felt embarrassed having to mention it. Dessert portioned right though.
Review 61:Lovely staff.
Review 62:I wish they hadn't given us clean towels after one night. I approve of hotels who give a choice whether or not to replace towels.
Review 63:The location was perfect for our needs and the room comfortable and tastefully decorated. Lovely staff and fabulous choice of food for breakfast.
Review 64:The room was lovely and I never thought I'd get out of the bed. The garden is gorgeous, and brilliant for the children in summer. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Review 65:I think the dining experience both at breakfast and dinner could be improved. The breakfast had a wonderful breakfast menu, but poorly prepared and presented. The dinner was poor and the charge excessive. These prices deserve a better menu.
Review 66:Staff, room, garden.
Review 67:Don't stay in Swallow room if you would be bothered by a droning hum from air conditioning unit below- from crack of dawn till midnight. Not relaxing. Check your bill carefully!!! Someone else's evening meal added to our bill!! Stepping over cleaners Hoover cords at 9am each morning and wet floor en route to breakfast- surely that should be done earlier in a hotel of this standard?!
Review 68:Central location, lovely garden., nice decor, Molton brown products in bathroom.
Review 69:No bad experiences. Did suggest the hotel should consider summer weight duvets as it was very hot.
Review 70:Loved the cream tea in the sunny garden. Very pleasant room. Friendly, helpful staff.
Review 71:I slipped on getting in and out of the bath.It needs a grab bar.The bed was within feet of the sharing wall of the fire door which meant as people were coming in and out they were constantly banging due to its weight which shook the bed and as it was the early hours and a noisy group it kept one awake. You might like to consider moving the bed out few feet from the headboard. This has resulted in a crack in the corner you need to explore.I have reported this already. It was not a big problem just irritating.
Review 72:The luxery of the surroundings but the relaxed friendliness of all the staff and excellent service.
Review 73:The Deco room was situated at the end of a private corridor, I requested a quiet room. The staff were friendly and helpful advising where we could walk to during the day for a change of scenery. The Brasserie food was very good however the dining room sounded even better so we will eat there next time.
Review 74:Felt the cost was a little on the high side and seemed to fluctuate from when we first looked to when we booked.
Review 75:Clean, comfortable and very attractive hotel. We only stayed one night and therefore didn't spend too much time inside. However we ate in the restaurant and had a lovely meal and breakfast was enjoyable too. Having parking onsite was an added bonus.
Review 76:Bad is overstating it but velux windows would benefit from blinds and the extractor fan in the bathroom needs replacing - rattles.
Review 77:Interesting and tasty food. Stylish room - Jubilee. . Very clean.
Review 78:The restaurant was expensive and the meals did not justify the price.
Review 79:The garden was lovely and unexpected from such a High Street situation. Would definitely return.
Review 80:Everything about this hotel was excellent. This was part of a Golden wedding anniversary gift for our friends. We first went to Highgrove followed by overnight in Tetbury at The Close Hotel. I new Highgrove would be good (been before) but was not sure about the hotel - well I shouldn't have worried as it was superb! Lovely old premises and gardens with a mixture of modern and fine antique décor - all blends in beautifully. Will return and recommend without doubt!
Review 81:Shower head fell off - fortunately I wasn't stood underneath it AND we had a second shower so no problem. Staff most apologetic, nothing they could have foreseen so absolutely no problem gripe from us.
Review 82:Room was fab, bathroom was brilliant - a shower each. The food was wonderful. The service was good. We look forward to going again but next time, we'll look round the town! We liked the hotel so much, we didn't step out of the door until we went home.
Review 83:Excellent friendly professional staff, we were greeted by Emily on our arrival at reception. She was very charming and showed us to our room. Will definately be coming back again in the future.
Review 84:Our only quibble with our stay was with the restaurant, which we found mediocre and overpriced.
Review 85:The Close Hotel is i n a beautiful old building with a lovely garden in back. The bar and restaurant areas are charming and the staff very welcoming. They were very accommodating to our dog, who enjoyed running in the garden.
Review 86:The cooked breakfast should be indicated as such on the menu as i asked for bacon and eggs expecting a full cooked breakfast but got those two items only (and only 1 rasher of bacon). Disappointing.
Review 87:The food was very good, we liked the terrace and the very helpful staff
Review 88:The only real problem was that the wifi did not work properly in the room
Review 89:Comfortable room and bed, good food and pleasant staff - an old hotel, so the floors and stairs can be a bit uneven!
Review 90:The dinner was good but overpriced for the food served.
Review 91:The Close Hotel ticked all the boxes for our visit to Highgrove from the afternoon in the garden to an excellent breakfast
Review 92:We had no negatives for this place.
Review 93:This place had it all! Not only did we get to stay in a beautifully clean and comfortable historic home but the staff were friendly and attentive but respected our privacy. We loved the breakfast and the food served in the restaurant was exceptional. To top if off there was a lovely old fashioned bar and a comfy lounge with open fireplace overlooking the quait street scene.
Review 94:Several things wrong with the room, all addressed to the hotel on check out. Sitting in the restaurant for dinner with a gentleman on his phone for 15 minutes!
Review 95:Location, was lovely right in the centre. The food in the evening was very nice.
Review 96:Prior to our stay we called to enquire if it was possible to check in earlier as we had a wedding to attend and were unable to arrive at the more usual time of 3pm We were told in no uncertain terms that was only possible if we paid a £30 surcharge on top of the £255 room price. We declined but later received an email to confirm we could arrive at 12pm On arrival the receptionist was sharp and off hand albeit ultra efficient in advising us of the hotel set up. She was however unfriendly and in our opinion not a good ambassador for The Close which in all other aspects we found delightful. A period of staff retraining would seem appropriate!
Review 97:This beautiful property has been most tastefully restored and offered sumptuous surroundings and lovely atmosphere. The bedroom was delightful with every convenience and an ultra comfortable bed. Well cooked breakfast with prompt and attentive service and good choice.
Review 98:Only negative comment is that our bedroom was at the front of the hotel and slight road noise from about 8am and until 11pm isn.
Review 99:Great location, beautiful courtyard garden to rear and very stylish. Very helpful staff and delicious breakfast.
Review 100:The close hotel is a lovely old building with an abundance of warmth and character as was the room we stayed in. The restaurant was simply top class with excellent food, incredibly good service and perfect atmosphere.
Review 101:Breakfast was small, sausage was hard and by the time we were brought our sauce we had nearly finished our food.
Review 102:Room was perfect, bed was really comfy.
Review 103:Nothing to complain about.
Review 104:The close hotel is a very homely comfortable hotel. The staff were always one step ahead.. Organising taxi , arranging tables so we could sit together to name a few.
Review 105:Food and drink rather expensive and portions quite small.
Review 106:As we were celebrating our Silver Wedding anniversary we were given a complimentary upgrade to a most beautiful room with a four poster bed and roll top bath overlooking the lovely gardens. The hotel was elegantly decorated with warm and welcoming open fires. Perfect location to explore The Cotswolds.
Review 107:Wi-Fi a bit slow.
Review 108:The room we stayed in was fantastic. "Nightingale" has the bathroom as the feature but the whole room was fantastic. The staff and quality of this hotel is excellent.
Review 109:Service and location were fantastic. We had got engaged the day before and then celebrated my lovely ladies birthday! Fantastic way to start our new chapter! Thank you all
Review 110:Someone in the room above us was very noisy in the mornings, possibly a member of staff getting ready to start work.
Review 111:Beautiful bedroom with the most comfortable bed I think I ever slept in! Delicious breakfast each morning with a good choice.
Review 112:The Wifi is a little weak in certain areas.
Review 113:This was probably one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Beautiful old building bursting with character. Stunningly refurbished, maintaining all the original features and adding a spacious luxuriousness. All staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. They just couldn't do enough. Both restaurants are well run turning out exceptionally good quality food. And the breakfast.... Amazing! This is a must visit hotel... We'll be back ASAP!!
Review 114:Decoration . Liked the coir matting . The dark paint could have been stylish - ruined by the inappropriate paintings ! Just flick through a World of Interiors , the interior could be heaven . Hated the 'bookcase' wallpaper .... Did not like the natural wood fire doors ... Go to Carol Bamfords hotel The Wild Rabbit to see how it should be done !!!! Fabulous building / rooms / fireplaces ... Liked the log fires .
Review 115:Location - garaging - good garden - excellent breakfast - excellent dinner
Review 116:Front door locked at 1130pm. Finding the back door in the dark! Finding the parking (next time won't be an issue!)
Review 117:Refurbished Room, Helpful Staff, Breakfast very upmarket. Safe Free Parking.
Review 118:We fell in love with this place and will be regular visitors. The rooms are gorgeous, the food is exquisite, the staff the most helpful and friendly I have ever met in the UK. This paradise is a must stay at! :)
Review 119:We were in the Swallow Room above the kitchen. Droning, humming sound from kitchen bar area started at 6.45 am. Not good for light sleepers!
Review 120:great location very comfortable bed and room helpful, friendly staff
Review 121:We stayed in the dove room with a view of the garden. The room was beautifully decorated, tranquil, luxurious, exteemely comfortable...tub looking out over the garden was a real treat. Love the recent renovation. Amazing breakfast too
Review 122:Sadly we expected a bath rather than a shower room so a (self inflicted) disappointment. Also the room had some low beams so it was a bit of "Watch your head!"
Review 123:Easy to check in with very friendly staff. All service was prompt and very helpfull
Review 124:Brautiful hotel, cosy and well decorated room, very comfortable bed, friendly staff, great service, good breakfast selection and central location. We had a very enjoyable stay, would come back again.
Review 125:The food at the restaurant was really expensive - lunch and evening meal, personally there was much of a choice for myself and my husband, ( we dont eat red meat)
Review 126:The ensuite bathroom was beautiful, it was beyond what we excepted.
Review 127:When you check-in, they ask if you want a newspaper delivered to your room in the morning, however they do not inform you that you must pay extra for the newspapers (ie. they are not free).
Review 128:Lovely welcoming stay at The Close Hotel. Breakfast was incredible. The bed was very comfortable. I was upgraded to the four-poster bed room since the staff knew it was my birthday. Bathroom had lovely products from Molten Brown. The staff were also very helpful and polite. Highly recommended, and I would stay there again.
Review 129:There was nothing that we did not like about the hotel.
Review 130:We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, from the warm welcome we received to the very helpful and friendly staff. Our bedroom was excellent and satisfied all our requirements and our meals in the restaurant were very good. Ideally situated for exploring the Cotswolds.
Review 131:The carpet fitters were in and had left a lot of tools scattered all over the landing floor for us to step over to get to our room they also had the radio on loudly right out side our room and was making a lot of banging noises too.
Review 132:The hotel was well decorated and had beautiful open fires, it was a warm and friendly place with very polite and helpful staff
