Reviews for Holywell House

Review 1:The bed was a bit too soft for me.

Review 2:An excellent location with very friendly and competent staff. Room was brilliant with a great view. Breakfast was very good too. Nice and quiet.

Review 3:Our room was very hot in the night and the traffic coming past the window was quite noisy so we didn't sleep very well

Review 4:Hollywell House was easy to find and the quality of the room was great. Our hosts were very accommodating and Loughborough is a nice city

Review 5:Derrick was very welcoming and his place was beautiful. The bedroom was extremely spacious and homely. The whole place had wonderful decor. Breakfast was excellent, I had the scrambled egg on toast and it was the best I've had for a long time.

Review 6:Hotel has a personality, staff were helpful and was great value. It was chosen for its location, free breakfast and secure parking which can be costs at other hotels. It did not disappoint and I would stay again.

Review 7:The Holywell is beautifully presented, and has a friendly owner. Great room and lovely breakfast. We left the car in the car park, and walked into the centre of Loughborough, about 5 minutes away.

Review 8:There was nothing to complain about.

Review 9:It was like stepping into a classic Victorian Mansion. We just enjoyed everything about our stay, it was spotlessly clean, breakfast was good and we were warmly received. Can highly recommend it and will revisit.

Review 10:Comfortable room for 3 people, had everything needed for overnight stay. Decor lovely, well thought out and well co-ordinated. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious with lots of choice.

Review 11:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The dining room is very pretty and we enjoyed the breakfast. The beds were comfortable and we had a very nice shower room and toilet all to ourselves, albeit across a small corridor.

Review 12:The guest house was immaculate and spacious providing us with a perfect overnight stay. The staff were helpful and friendly with a genuine desire to please. We'd definitely return.

Review 13:Cooked breakfast good, but the addition of mushrooms and fresh grilled tomatoes would be welcome. The cold selection was average - a fresh fruit salad (blueberries, melon, apple etc) to go with yogurt would be a great improvement. Tinned grapefruit just isn't the same.

Review 14:Room was clean and comfortable. Excellent cooked breakfast.

Review 15:Not applicable.

Review 16:Everything especially the hosts nothing is too much trouble. The attention to detail is first class. I will stay again and reccommend to friends and family.

Review 17:Nothing

Review 18:Nice room, clean and big. Very good breakfast. Excellent B&B spotless. Derek the owner is very helpful, I have forgotten my watch in the room and he ketp it for me.

Review 19:My room overlooked the main road and the windows did not give much sound insulation.

Review 20:The property is located very close to the town centre and has excellent facilities. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful.

Review 21:The house beautifully restored and updated; lovely tranquil atmosphere, very courteous and charming hosts; comfortable beds, well equipped bathrooms; wonderful choice at breakfast - everything to like!

Review 22:Excellence host - friendly and attentive - committed to good customer services Beautiful English home and make you feel like real home with all the decorative - spacious room given to us - great bathroom and shower Good breakfast and good parking space - would have given them perfect 10 although a bit pricey for a small town like Loughborough and location is slightly off the town centre limit Would recommended

Review 23:Their dog growling at me when I tried to go downstairs - warning to anyone with fear of dogs! :) . Hair on the bath (otherwise the place looked spotless).

Review 24:Loved the decor; spacious rooms; large, warm spa bathroom; new facilities. Good location - near town, bus stop across the road.

Review 25:our room near the slightly busy main road - could not open window

Review 26:Friendly hosts, great breakfast, cute three bed room - private bathroom across the hall very close to university campus ( 2 minutes by car, or shuttle bus close by) lovely pub (Phantom) across road great stay - thank you.

Review 27:Warm, friendly welcome. Lovely homely feel to the place. Comfortable, clean, spacious room and en-suite facilities. Parking on site. Free Wi-Fi. Short walk into town. Great freshly cooked breakfast.Looking forward to a return visit.

Review 28:Les and Derek were extremely welcoming and friendly hosts, the house is beautifully kept and the breakfast delicious. A real 'home from home', would have no hesitation in staying again or in recommending.

Review 29:We arrived late in the evening and was greeted by Les one of the proprietors who was very friendly and asked about our journey. He showed us around and to our room. The room was lovely and very roomy,we had are own private bathroom and the cleanliness was outstanding ( i am quiet fussy when it comes to cleanliness). Very quiet and had a great nights sleep. Went down to breakfast and was greeted by Derek who showed us to our table. Breakfast was a choice of cereals and yoghurt and fruits plus a full English breakfast. Excellent value for money. We will definitely return if we are that way again.

Review 30:Not knowing the area it was quite hard to find due to poor sat nav and one way system so spent quite a while looking , but no reflection on hotel stay I also booked a double room but was un aware the total cost was per person as i only entered my details I assumed a double or twin room was for 2 people so was quite embarrassed on my arrival to find my budget had doubled so value wise i must admit i found it expensive and have stayed in equally nice guest houses for a lot less

Review 31:Loved the hotel and decor and the friendliness of the owners Its also very hard to find facilities that accept dogs but these people not only welcome pets they are genuine animal lovers so for us that was key Breakfast was good with a variety of a english breakfast plus cereal , yogurt , jams and fruit

Review 32:From the excellent locally sourced breakfast and meticulously curated interior design to the friendly and attentive service, I have nothing but praise for this charming guest house and its dedicated proprietors. Holywell House alone would be a reason for visiting Loughborough!

Review 33:The shower did not have much pressure.

Review 34:Room spacious and very nicely equipped. I felt very comfortable. Derek very friendly and hospitable - he found me a great taxi for the following day..

Review 35:Bit noisy with the road outside.

Review 36:This was one of the best places I have ever stayed in in terms of the accommodation. A real tribute to the owners and people running it.

Review 37:Breakfast had a very limited choice and can be rated average at most.

Review 38:Nice modern en suite in the bedroom, clean and comfortable. Friendly helpful owner.

Review 39:The rooms are welcoming and very clean. Warm and friendly atmosphere . Beds are comfortable. It feels like a home away from home. We were very well taken care of. Would gladly stay at Holywell again

Review 40:Wifi did not work properly during my stay. Especially not in my room

Review 41:It was a pleasure to stay at the Holywell House. Everything clean and tidy. Big rooms, remarkable furniture and lovely staff.

Review 42:It's a bit hard to find because the signage wad small for my old eyes....

Review 43:Everything the breakfast was amazing got a nice bit of sausage...room really big, beds comfy there was a sofa in room, staff very accommodating and friendly I was very impressed with the room and the whole hotel, there is ample off road parking...in a quiet area.

Review 44:A very friendly welcome, shown to a very comfortable spacious room. The free WiFi was fast and easy to access and the breakfast was delicious. Car parking on site. We would use it again.

Review 45:Bathroom was across the corridor not en suite - but this is nit picking - as the bathroom and shower were in good order.

Review 46:Friendly reception when I arrived. I was shown personally to my room. Very comfortable bedroom and surroundings. Breakfast was very good and the decor was lovely.

Review 47:A simple B&B in restored Victorian vicarage with period features. The owners made us feel very welcome without being obtrusive. Good location a short walk in to the town centre.

Review 48:The hotel was comfortable, Derek was very helpful and friendly, breakfast was lovely.Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in Loughborough.

Review 49:We enjoyed the style and quirkiness. The service was excellent and the rooms were fresh and spotless. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and delicious. We would definitely stay again.

Review 50:Very impressed with everything. Located fairly close to center. Staff very warm and friendly. Room was large and comfortable with nice facilities. Breakfast was fantastic!

Review 51:A really minor point. Got the room last minute cheaply on booking.com. Was treated slightly differently than another guest that I noted (at breakfast) and couldn't help wonder if it was because I got a budget room. Just a feeling, just took a very small amount of the shine off what was an excellent stay.

Review 52:Friendly welcome. Nice standard breakfast. Lovely room, with good quality bed, pillows and surround. Quiet and roomy.

Review 53:The room was very comfortable and well equipped. It is a quiet hotel with a calm atmosphere, pleasant service, an excellent breakfast and free parking. This was our 2nd visit. We would highly recommend it.

Review 54:Prefer en-suite but had own bathroom allocated and didn't prove too much of an inconvenience overall. Would of liked choice of low fat yoghurts, thicker toast and fresh tomatoes at breakfast, unfortunately didn't like the bacon. Silver teapots and milk jugs were lovely though and added a nice touch of grandness.

Review 55:Perfectly located close to the town centre, easy to explore and nearby park & ride takes you easily to Leicester. Car parking on-site, very welcoming place, beautifully decorated, spotless and comfy. The friendly & helpful owners genuinely enjoy running the hotel and look after their guests, they even kindly gave me a lift to the wedding venue I was attending.

Review 56:Short walk into town centre ,no more than 5/10 minutes. Large out door market on the Saturday. Excellent full English breakfast. Liked everything!

Review 57:If I could change something then it would be the colour of the wallpaper in bedrooms ..needs updating and lighting up.

Review 58:Derek was AMAZING, so incredibly friendly and couldn't do enough for us. 1 member of our party had dietary issues and owners ensured that they were catered for in specific manner. Good, easy location for town Loved the breakfast room, full of character and charm. Great parking, easy to access.

Review 59:It's nice to spend time somewhere with a bit of character for a change rather than these faceless chains of hotels that are all pretty much the same.

Review 60:Leaving! We were so cosseted and comfortable. It was an experience not to be missed.

Review 61:This was hospitality of the highest order; from the genuine, warm welcome to the delicious breakfast with its pristine table linen and silver coffee pot, everything was thought through and done beautifully.

Review 62:Beautifully decorated period style family room with very comfortable beds. Very clean bedroom & bathroom, friendly accommodating hosts, excellent breakfast...also liked the old fashioned tableware/crockery which was very in keeping with the style of the hotel.

Review 63:From the warm welcome, to the off-road parking, to the clean, warm & spacious room, to the comfy bed and the great breakfast - everything about Holywell House is spot on. I will definitely stay here again.

Review 64:Internet is too weak in bedrooms The shower should be accessorized a bit and toiletries should be made more convenient to use.

Review 65:Decoration - The B&B hosts

Review 66:Friendliness of Derek and Les. Quality of the whole experience was of the highest order. Don't come to Loughborough often but if we do - well there is nowhere else to stay!

Review 67:Unfriendly welcome and no info given on the b & b and breakfast time suggested 7am but asked if we could have a later breakfast so was then offered 8.30. Tea cup dusty and black bits in kettle and some of the milk cartons out of date

Review 68:Good location with restaurants within walking distance. Staff at breakfast pleasant

Review 69:There isn't a bad thing to say about this B and B. The icing on the cake was the comfort of the bed, spa bath and the breakfast. Brilliant. Well done and thank you.

Review 70:Twins room or family rooms are available. There s no double room to stay.

Review 71:Decoration of hotel was great, kind welcoming, short walking distance to town centre

Review 72:Tom tom didn't like it, found it a challenge due to new road layouts so be sure to update or google it.

Review 73:Just all very professional, warm, friendly, nice room, very clean and cosy. Great hosts. I'll be using the same guest house again if I'm ever in Loughborough.

Review 74:Bathroom was separate to the room through 2 doors and across a landing at the top of stairs, not ideal when you are in your PJs or in the middle of the night

Review 75:I was accidentally mis-led as to when breakfast was served on Sunday and ended up rousing the owner at 7am. He was sleepy but amazingly helpful and served me right away. brilliant!

Review 76:Shower in my room was not very good, but it was sold as a room with a bath, which was great.

Review 77:The Hosts were very welcoming and extremely helpful. The Room was very comfortable.

Review 78:The only inconvenient thing was having to use a bathroom which was separate to the room. It was your own bathroom and in itself was fine, but still a bit of a hassle to have to leave the room.

Review 79:The staff were great, warm and very, very helpful. The house and rooms look OK, the bed was comfortable, it was clean, breakfast is included and it's fine. It's close to the centre so that's convenient too.

Review 80:Nothing was too much trouble. The owners were really very helpful and accommodating Holywell house is very near the town centre. A sumptuous breakfast rounded off a lovely stay. Beautifully restored house.

Review 81:No cleaning of rooms or even asking if cleaning is needed. They left the house and expected me to call them as I didn't have the keys (don't have cellphone as I don't live in the UK). Finally, when asking for a taxi they charged us 80 pounds because the taxi came earlier and didn't want to wait.

Review 82:There was wifi, a good TV and the beds were ok. Also, did not feel cold at all.

Review 83:I stayed there for 2 nights with my son as he will be an exchange student in the nearby university in the following months. Lez and Derek were helpful. They assisted us in moving our heavy suitcases to the room in first floor and to the carpark on departure. Their dog is lovely and shy. The fragrance in the room was lovely. The breakfast was making whole heartedly. We felt like family. I will highly recommend this hotel to everyone and we surely will come back again. Thanks! Holywell House.....

Review 84:front facing first floor room with traffic noise on busy main road. Extension leads taped to radiators could be a safety hazard.

Review 85:Very personable host. Comfortable stay with good breakfast

Review 86:Beds

Review 87:We had to visit Loughborough because of our son having an interview at the uni.. We arrived about 7.30pm to a warm welcome. Dumped our bags and asked where to go to eat! We went to the Manor House in Quorn ... Well recommended! Our room had three beds and was definately large enough for all three if us! The bathroom was lovely ... Tea & coffee in the room! Only downside was the beds were too hard for us so not a good night sleep! Breakfast was lovely ... Everything you'd want! Lovely quirky old fashioned sugar & milk jugs ... Tea pot & coffee pot! All in all fabulous place!

Review 88:Friendliness of staff. Cleanliness of room and bathroom - never seen such a clean shower in a hotel before! Relaxed but professional staff who made me feel very comfortable. Super breakfast. Massive bedroom and big bathroom - oh, and Les carried my case to my room for me! Ten minute stroll to Loughborough town centre too.

Review 89:Lovely hosts welcone you to their cosy guest house, it was everything I expected and the breakfast was super - another plus was they know how to make guests welcome and serve a good coffee !!

Review 90:Tastefully renovated. Lez and Derek have retained many of the property's original features during their conversion of Holywell to a B&B. One of the few B&Bs that I have recently stayed at, that I would unreservedly recommend. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly owners/staff. Wonderful breakfast.

Review 91:Bed was very uncomfortable. Breakfast only served till 9.30am. Spa bath is a normal size not a corner bath

Review 92:Quirkiness and independent. We wanted to give something other than the Premier Inn in loughborough a try

Review 93:Minor gripe would be that the shower was not fantastically hot (but then I like my shower much hotter than anyone else I know so I doubt it would be be a negative for most people).

Review 94:Host was very welcoming and helpful. The house is beautifully set up... loved the chandelier in the bathroom! Excellent wifi signal and a nice quiet house so easy to get work done. Good coffee in the morning and that's important! The bed was soft so whether that is a plus or a minus depends on your perspective on soft beds!

Review 95:I wanted to verify the comments of most of the loggers who rated Holywell House highly. And yes, I can confirm that this is probably the best BB in England and by far the best I have ever used. My opinion of this facility is follows: in a scale from 1 to 10, I give them 10. Keep up the good work.

Review 96:Minor thing and staff was aware of the problem, but the drain in the shower of the first room I had did not work well, so there was lots of water on the floor. The shower in the other room was excellent.

Review 97:Holywell House was thoroughly comfortable and well-functioning with a really kind and helpful staff. I stayed for two weeks, had all I needed and felt very much at home! The house is old, but beautifully renovated with an atmospere all of its own. Breakfast was very good and included a lot of choices. Derek was so kind and took me to the station when no taxi was available as I left.

Review 98:At night the heating was not on and it was a bit too cool for our son and since he is not used to a seperate hot and cold water tab he had a bit of a difficulty in handling it :-) This is also an experience isn`t it?

Review 99:We loved simply everything. Excellent service, excellent hospitality. Felt at home. Such a wonderful taste. The room was very nice and big enough for three people. The bed was comfortable. The whole place had an excellent charm. Breakfast was delicious, but we adored the most the service on spotless white linen. And and and...Can only say "that was a stay":-)

Review 100:I really like the hospitality fromlarna he host and the breakfast was great too. I definitely coming back here for my next visit to loughborough. Great little gem in loughborough.

Review 101:The bed was a little too soft for me but that is my choice to have a hard bed.

Review 102:There was an homely atmosphere and the cleanness. The staff was very friendly and made you feel welcome. The room and en suit bath room was very spacious and lovely very high standard decor.

Review 103:A well-priced B&B near to where I was working and also near to an excellent Indian restaurant, I could not ask for more. An impressive building with larger, spacious public areas and well-appointed bedrooms. Whenever I work in Loughborough, this will be my first choice.

Review 104:We booked 3 rooms for a family celebration, all were clean, tidy and very spacious. We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff. Will definately stay there again.

Review 105:Large rooms with very comfortable bed. No hotel noise. Freshly cooked breakfast. Derek and Lez great hosts. Good off road parking. Fantastic value for money.

Review 106:Every thing so much better than the hotel chains, I have been coming to Loughborough for the past five years a different Hotel each time. I will differently return to Holywell.

Review 107:Nothing really some may complain about busy road outside but it was certainly not that busy of noisy.

Review 108:Beautifully furnished house which is obviously treasured by the owners. You are made to feel like house guests. Large room with a sofa and huge dressing table ! Large bathroom with toiletries and large towels. Very good range of breakfast dishes freshly cooked. Excellent price. There are very few places to stay in Loughborough so well advised. Very close to town centre.

Review 109:Could not be faulted in any way

Review 110:House tastefully decorated in period style clearly self evident a labour of love by owners. Immaculate and pristine. Very cosy and comfortable Excellent breakfast Helpful and friendly hosts with excellent local knowledge

Review 111:I didn't realise when I made my booking that my room was not ensuite so bathroom next door in hall. Right on a busy main road. Not easy to find on satnav.

Review 112:Staff were friendly and welcoming. Good breakfast. Decent sized bedroom Quiet room in the top of the house. Décor is bright. Very close to town Ample parking
