Reviews for The Ormond At Tetbury

Review 1:Very welcoming and accommadating, curtious service, lovely breakfast, beautiful room with very comfortable bed, very happy, would recommend and stay again.

Review 2:Parking was a bit of a walk up/down a steep hill and my mother who's had a knee replacement couldn't do it so had to keep driving on to the high street to collect her. The room was big and lovely looking but the bed mattresses were very uncomfortable.

Review 3:Lovely pub/restaurant. Helpful staff. Clean and well located on the high street. Close to all the lovely antique shops.

Review 4:Our standard room was beautifully decorated and furnished. The bar and restaurant is cosy and welcoming, and the food is excellent. The staff can't do enough for you. This was our second visit, will be back again.

Review 5:A better quality and choice of bathroom products. Bath Towel too small which felt a bit mean. Hairdryer was not great.Hard to blow dry and keep 'on button' pressed! Not being told that we would be charged £35 if we didn't give the key back (as soon as we checked in! ). All staff friendly but not all their remarks were particularly professional Didn't like not having car park but a refund of fees would suffice and is usual.

Review 6:Cosy bar Good location.

Review 7:Would have preferred the breakfast to be a buffet instead of having to ask the waiter.

Review 8:Nice staff, willing to help carrying luggage, explaining What to visit in the region. The hotel was clean, food was good. Excellent balance between price and service.

Review 9:Light bulb not working in bathroom - unable to fix. Wallpaper peeling off on bathroom wall. Burnt pizza - apparently got the right one on 3rd attempt! Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were good for breakfast. Porridge was too watery and was taken back to the kitchen by the waiter without prompting! Overall staff are quite unhappy with the chef and their team. Probably the management needs to know about it rather than the customer to improve performance!

Review 10:Family room is comfortable and spacious for kids. Room 2 looking to the road is fairly quiet in the evening. Reception chap was quite helpful in addressing issues - rather too honest at times! Free parking after 18:00 outside the hotel.

Review 11:Detail about the car parking facilities would have been useful. There is an inexpensive public carpark around the corner (around 60p from 8am and the morning charges can be paid in advance). The television did not work and there was no controller. The staff had a strange meeting in the morning whilst I ate breakfast – most of the staff were lovely but one seemed a little pinched! These are small things as overall a wonderful place to stay.

Review 12:A beautiful, cosy and welcoming place! Great bar area and breakfast was delicious. I wish I could have stayed longer and didn’t want to check-out.

Review 13:They charge for an early check in fee of £25 but don't let you check in till 3 which is hopeless for weddings.

Review 14:Its a very nice town hotel but it lacks personality and a comfy vibe. The room was lovely.

Review 15:The toilet had a brown stain or other on the lid and ther were some brown stains under the seat. We mentioned this to one of the staff saying we would be out for a while and expected it to be sorted by our return. This didn't happen.

Review 16:We liked that it was in the centre of town. We disliked that we had to use car parking facilities elsewhere.

Review 17:Some rude staff Room/bathroom not the cleanest Room/bathroom needs improved decor Lock broke and so were locked in room

Review 18:Good food and bed Issues were sorted by manager (money off room price)

Review 19:There was a storm the night we were there and the door was rattling and the roof was leaking outside our room. Please bear in mind it was a very stormy night and normally I don't think it was a regular issue

Review 20:Lovely first impression of the staff

Review 21:The only thing that could be improved on is that the beds were very creeky and slightly disruptive in the middle of the night.

Review 22:The staff at the ormomd were exceptionally polite and so eager to help and go the extra mile. The location was superb. Rooms were beautiful and the breakfast was lovely.

Review 23:Bar and food service a bit slow

Review 24:Great location in centre of town. Walking distance to all amenities. Tasteful furnishings. Cosy bar and dining area. Nice outdoor seating area.Comfortable bed with good shower. Good breakfast choice. Friendly atmosphere. Helpful staff. Cheap public car park five mins away.

Review 25:Kitchen must only have one person working in it. Dinner for everyoneseemed to take forever. We ordered a dessert but cancelled it when toldanother table had been waiting for their three pizzas.

Review 26:Great room #15 with great price. Dinner and breakfast were very good.

Review 27:No near by parking, had to walk from a car park, for seven minutes and up hill so not good for anyone who has a breathing problem or mobility problem. Could get extremely wet if raining

Review 28:The food was fantastic and very friendly and accommodating staff

Review 29:I would have liked croissants as an option for breakfast as I'm not keen on fish or eggs and don't eat a full cooked breakfast Also a pot of coffee would have been good and not coffee poured from the waitress. The key to the outside gate didn't work and we nearly got locked out and the radiator wasn't working either.

Review 30:Apart from a couple of practical problems, our stay was very pleasant and the hotel was comfortable with a beautiful outdoor patio area which would be fabulous in the summer.

Review 31:A traditional town centre high street inn-type location but with handy parking on street opposite after 6pm until 9am. Interesting well furnished room.

Review 32:To much noise during day when in room as phone can be heard ringing from office below. Certain staff a nit too abrupt.

Review 33:Breakfast was a pleasure and a good nights sleep.

Review 34:Unfortunately ,we felt room 14 was too small for two mature people and bed rather too hard for one of us Room noisy because of traffic Our booking was a late one for one night only so we have to take some responsibility !

Review 35:Delightful, attentive and courteous Staff . Delicious food . We liked the old world charm of the hotel.

Review 36:A LITTLE BIT OF AN UPDATE AND REFRESH OF PAINT ETC HERE AND THERE THROUGHOUT THE HOTEL

Review 37:GREAT LOCATION, FRIENDLY ATTENTIVE STAFF, LOVELY MEAL IN RESTURANT AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR BREAKFAST AND VERY ENJOYABLE

Review 38:There was a wedding reception right outside our window on our first night which was very noisy. In fairness staff gave us free drinks in the bar but we would have preferred a room away from the noise and a bit of peace. The hotel is expensive although typical of the area.

Review 39:Great location, decent restaurant and friendly staff.

Review 40:I liked everything about this place.. A secure car-park adjacent to the hotel would have been a bonus but would probably not be possible without compromising the good features which are its appeal.

Review 41:Traditional, historical, old inn situated on a main street of the charming, well preserved, delightful, Cotswold town of Tetbury.

Review 42:There was no parking on site, which we were aware of when we booked. But saying that the free car park was a 5-10 minutes walk away up a steep hill with a suitcase. Everything was fine until in the morning when we came to have a shower, there was no water. The management did apologise when I complained, but I had to ask for a discount, it was not offered.

Review 43:The hotel had a very comfortable feel, the room although on the 3rd floor with no lift available was well laid out and clean. The staff were very friendly especially the young man who looked after us in the evening and waited on us at the dinner table.

Review 44:But we were on a mini honey moon, the room was tiny, the towels were very small and the room was so noisy all night and from 4am in the morning, shame as bad sleep overrules any good points!!! For the price disappointing room!!

Review 45:Lovely food!!! Amazing cocktails

Review 46:The town is beautiful, the hotel clean and great atmosphere, breakfast included, parking available off site, our room and bathroom were very nice & comfy!

Review 47:You could hear telephone conversations from downstairs quite clearly in the room.

Review 48:Really comfy bed and delicious breakfast (although they got my husband's eggs wrong and forgot my beans! Quickly resolved though).

Review 49:Not much of a garden. Room right next to an air conditioning unit although we had paid extra for a superior room. Bed very uncomfortable.

Review 50:Right in centre. Close to Highgrove Good breakfast.

Review 51:Don't think it was worth paying more for a 'superior' room. The room was fine, but I'm not sure what was 'superior' about it.

Review 52:Good location, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast.

Review 53:No car park but there is a long stay free car park a 10 minute walk away.

Review 54:Very relaxing atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff with a welcoming attitude. You can't fault the breakfast, a really good choice.

Review 55:The room looked out onto the pub courtyard. Sadly the courtyard also looked into the room, so we had to keep the curtains closed even during the day. This didn't, however, keep out the noise of people talking and shouting until well after midnight, or doors constantly banging open and closed. Closing the window helped stop their cigarette smoke, but not the noise. However, closing the window also meant that the room was impossibly hot, despite the radiators being off - heat seemed to be coming up from the rooms below. Which, as it turns out, were probably the kitchens, given the stench of cooking that pervaded the room, and actually got worse when the extractor fan in the bathroom was turned on. Oh, and the wifi didn't work, the kettle was bust and the bed was uncomfortable.

Review 56:It made us glad to be going home.

Review 57:Bathroom could do with refit . Mattresses need replacing

Review 58:Great beer garden , bar area / lounge Breakfast excellent . Great choice Room clean and tidy

Review 59:Breakfast service was indifferent with a very sticky marmalade jar on the table. Bill was incorrect and had to be reduced to take off duplicated charge

Review 60:Clean room but no 14 should not be used as a double

Review 61:Only criticisms would be parking and noise. Hotel is on the main road through the town so there was a bit of traffic noise from early in the morning, which can't really be helped. There are a few 1 hour (8am-6pm) parking bays opposite the hotel, but these were often full. The nearest car park we found was a maximum 3hour. But a little further down the hill is the old rail yard which is a free long stay car park.

Review 62:Lovely hotel in a brilliant location in the middle of town, hotel was clean and comfy, staff were friendly and happy to help. Stayed for a wedding which was just the other side of town but was only a pleasant short walk away. Lovely pub/restaurant. Enjoyed the breakfast, especially the eggs royale, where they weren't shy on the salmon!

Review 63:Car parking is a big problem. A ten minute walk up hill from the free municipal car park or feed the meter in a car park 100yds away

Review 64:Central location in Tetbury

Review 65:The hotel was on a busy main road with no parking or even a pull in to unload a car. One of our party had recently been ill, between booking and staying. Their is no lift and she had to climb four flights of stairs. The restaurant menu didn't give a great deal of choice.

Review 66:The staff were very pleasant and the breakfasts were good.

Review 67:What let our stay down was the dinner. We would stay again but would eat elsewhere.

Review 68:The Ormond was very good value for money. Our room was lovely. Very good location.

Review 69:Poor value for money - a lot to spend for a hotel that is 'tired' - bathroom facilities were poor (shower only half worked etc.). Whilst the location of the hotel is convenient in Tetbury, it is situated on a busy road - with the summer heat and no aircon the bedroom windows had to be left open which made for a very noisy night - that coupled with being able to hear every other guest coming up and down the stairs was not ideal.

Review 70:The bed was comfy and the staff were friendly.

Review 71:The shower did not work too well. Hot water was too hot. Mixer tap on the sink would be helpful - atleast it will save a lot of water unnecessarily wasted. A full time receptionist would help.

Review 72:Room was comfortable, nice, clean and spacious. Bed was nice and comfortable. All other facilities was good. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They are also very hard working.

Review 73:Lack of convenient free parking a nuisance. There was no on street spaces when we arrived and although one became available it would have meant moving the car by 9 am.Free car park half a mile away at bottom of steep hill. Only 2 staff to cover reception, bar and restaurant which was inadequate. Breakfast bacon microwaved which is an abomination but it was edible.Scrambled eggs good.

Review 74:Dinner was good, the room restaurant and bar were comfortable. Staff were cheerful and friendly despite being overworked. Good central position but this had slight drawback.with parking.

Review 75:No Parking, noisy room if at front of hotel, disturbed by other guests and also delivery vehicles early morning. Breakfast staff and service very poor.

Review 76:Location was central

Review 77:A great stay and the bed was fabulous......so comfy and bedding so soft and light. The room was lovely and shower room roomy. All SPOTLESS. Staff are great. Liked all BUT room was on front of hotel and with window open (hot day), noisy due to the horrendous amount of traffic that goes through that pretty town of Tetbury. I would recommend aircon for the front rooms to stop that but otherwise great.

Review 78:A bit of a chaotic check out, we paid the lady on reception (cash) then as we were leaving a man rushed out to enquire if we had a bill to settle up - a bit embarrassing

Review 79:Breakfast was really excellent and great choice, as was the standard of food in the hotel bar, lovely atmosphere there too!

Review 80:The hotel entrance / reception needs refurbishing. The breakfast was average. I have had much better egg Beneficte elsewhere.

Review 81:Very helpful staff. Very nicely decorated and clean room.

Review 82:The shower wasn't the greatest but not a major issue.

Review 83:The room was really nice and the bed super comfy. Sometimes its hard to tell how nice a hotel is just from pictures and i can say this was a really nice place, with big back garden, nice bar and a well furnished spacious room.

Review 84:only down side is not being able to check in until 3pm unless you pay extra.

Review 85:the hotel was clean and the superior room was really nice. great location and parking available just around the corner.

Review 86:The staff at this hotel are excellent. Friendly, helpful, professional, they are happy in their work! The food is good, one is quickly served and the rooms are comfortable. This was my second stay at the Ormond, I will definitely stay there again if I am in Tetbury again. The hotel is in the main street and there is free parking on the road from 18.00 to 09.00.

Review 87:No parking facility - had to use public car park three minute walk away and get up early to avoid parking ticket in the morning. Took dinner which was adequate but not memorable.

Review 88:There is a good pub/hotel atmosphere and a spacious courtyard which would have been enjoyable if it hadn't been raining! Bedroom long and narrow but comfortable bed and decent facilities.

Review 89:Parking: there own website says private parking available but the staff no nothing about it. Musical cars, as you can park in the road until 9am, you can park locally uoto 3 hours or you can walk to the long stay! rooms are not superior. The impression is you will possibly get a 4 poster bed or similar, The reality is a room (such as 10) so small you cannot swing a cat. wifi speed is poor, but free!

Review 90:Staff are friendly and the breakfast was excellent

Review 91:There was an appalling smell in main reception which smelt like blocked drains. The staff were adamant that it was due to a party of guests bringing dogs into reception who were muddy/wet. I am a dog owner myself and it did not seem to be a 'doggy' smell. Also the smell was there the following morning. This together with the fact that our bathroom sink was very slow to drain away suggests there is in fact a problem with drainage. Other than this, which did not cause a massive problem (we just held our breath as we passed through reception!) we had a very comfortable stay at this hotel.

Review 92:A great location with very friendly staff and the room was comfortable. Lovely hot breakfast

Review 93:Right in the center of Tetbury, nice to walk around town but parking is not adjacent to the hotel. Room was a bit small and overlooked the courtyard where guests can drink and dine, so it might be noisy if it were busier. They are in the process of remodeling some of the rooms but that didn't detract from our stay. Nice cozy restaurant.

Review 94:By using toilet air fresheners in the common corridors cheapens the place and gives the place a constant toilet smell, particularly off-putting on the lounge / reception area.

Review 95:I did not like the fact that I only had one day to stay there.

Review 96:Excellent friendly staff. Even though the hotel is on a busy road, once sat inside the beer garden you will instantly relax as everything is beautifully presented and also well soundproofed. Could have stayed there all afternoon but Robert Plant had requested my company sooooooo..........

Review 97:The bed in room 6 was uncomfortable needed a new mattress. We complained and got moved to another room. Which was very good.Quaint

Review 98:All the staff were wonderful and so helpful

Review 99:Had to park in the Railway car park down Gumstool hill which is not an easy hike hauling a suitcase. Salmon main dish was just okay.

Review 100:Breakfast good. Eggs Florentine were excellent.

Review 101:No parking within 200 metres other than 1hr stay.

Review 102:Right in the centre of Tetbury and therefore very convenient to shops and restaurants. Staff were very helpful.

Review 103:As for value for money in respects to the room £145.95 for a so called superior room left a lot to be desired. I've stayed in different hotels in Tetbury for far less and they were better value for money and a lot more superior.

Review 104:Staff were very polite and willing to help and the breakfast was very nice.

Review 105:The staff seemed to have their work cut out covering the hotel reception, bar and restaurant at busy times, occasionally delaying or detracting from service received. However, very helpful and accommodating to make up for it.

Review 106:The food and the ambience in the bar and restaurant. Great cooked breakfast, but not enough coffee! Quiet, comfortable rooms, finished to a high standard.

Review 107:The hotel is amazingly short-staffed, so service is slow.

Review 108:Tetbury is part of the glorious Cotswold region and the Ormond is conveniently situated in the heart of the village. The menu -- for both dinner and breakfast -- offers many options and the food is tasty.

Review 109:Bed mattress in Room 10 was too soft for us causing agitated sleep and back pain by the morning.

Review 110:Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Quality of all meals was excellent and imaginative.

Review 111:No water at all in the morning for two hours. Nightmare when trying to get ready for a wedding

Review 112:Very comfortable and spacious room. Nice cosy bar and lively garden.

Review 113:there was no parking except in long or short stay car parks. I don't want to pay to park at a hotel, so we parked across the town in a side street and carried our bags to the hotel.

Review 114:food was of a high standard

Review 115:As there's no parking the car had to be left a short walk away, somebody had to get up in time to pay the morning parking so we could enjoy our breakfast leisurely.

Review 116:Comfortable, friendly, relaxed atmosphere. A perfect place to enjoy supper with friends after our Highgrove visit.

Review 117:Problem with getting water from the tapes Nothing, not even a water bowl for the dog though charged £15 Not allowed into the room early unless we paid £25

Review 118:The room on the top floor was good family room

Review 119:Parking is only available on the road outside or round the corner at public car park. Not far but with a few bags etc its that bit more awkward.

Review 120:Rooms a good size and much nicer than the average chain hotel for comparable price. Bar area pleasant to eat, drink and work in. Food was very good especially the breakfast.

Review 121:Booking in was a staff member , and as soon as another couple came she told us we had to wait until she checked them in. The room was infested with moths, cobweb, broken window, sink that was flooding, overflowing toilet, and shower tray and the wardrobe was difficult to open.

Review 122:Meal was ok

Review 123:My daughter and I stayed in room number 16. Please amend the problem with the window . No way of keeping the window open during our stay unless we propped it open by wedging something to prevent it closing.

Review 124:excellent evening meal and a nice breakfast

Review 125:The bathroom unfortunately didn't mirror the bedroom! IT was dirty, and not well maintained this let it down

Review 126:the food was amazing especially the breakfast and the staff very friendly. The bedroom was really nicely decorated and a really comfortable bed!

Review 127:Lumpy pillows.

Review 128:Friendly staff, Good food, Cosy, Comfortable place to stay. Well situated for visiting all the quirky antique shops and Highgrove garden.

Review 129:The shower needs a bucket of bleach and some scouring. Toilet didn't flush at all well and took ages between flushes. No bath. Needs some serious money invested in the place. The chef put something sweet in every plate of food. Even Pizza and I don't mean pineapple. Just a lot of irritating "just misses" on the food front. A funky smell in the common parts.

Review 130:The staff were cheerful and helpful and were worked very hard. Very quiet room at the rear of the hotel

Review 131:No amount of titivating can make up for lack of parking for those who travel by car. There is free parking at long stay park, but this is a longish walk back to the hotel and up a steep hill. Not all members of staff spoke English well, and appeared to me to be under stress and bewildered. There was shouting, banged doors, and dressing down in front of customers.

Review 132:Room far too hot even with heating turned off. Booked for family of 4 but then had to pay £35 supplement for a camp bed to be put up for my son.

Review 133:Very helpful staff

Review 134:Staff were extremely accommodating. Room was small but perfect for a 2 night stay for a wedding in the area and nicely decorated. Could hear the guy snoring in the room next door but its an old country building so thin walls are to be expected. All in all clean and very charming. Be aware no onsite parking, long term parking is a walk down the hill.

Review 135:We stayed in room 1 which was a bit tired and the carpet needs replacing. It would also be nice if there were tissues in the room, as cotton wool was provided. No parking is a disadvantage.

Review 136:The Staff were lovely and the food was very good. Nice courtyard garden which must be a real asset in good weather.

Review 137:The beds were horrible. Large hump in the larger bed, small bed hard and squeaked when I moved waking me and my husband. We did not sleep well at all.

Review 138:new decor and lovely bath, location in center of town, the large reception room we could use downstairs, lovely out side area at the rear of the hotel, great food

Review 139:I know Your paying for the location more than anything but i just didn't feel that what i paid for and what i got in return was worth it. They said there was free parking nearby, but when you arrive late after a wedding and its pouring with rain, three streets over is not nearby, i felt that we were misled slightly there by that. Didn't really get to spend much time in the room, mostly that wasn't there fault but as the clocks had been put forward that night i felt it would have been nice for them to accomidate breakfast an extra hour so we could sleep longer. The breakfast tasted ok, but when we arrived we were moved out of the normal breakfast area due to being busy, thats fine but it was almost like we were to much trouble, there were no bowls for cerel, no glassess for juice, i asked for the latter but felt i didn't want to keep asking for things that should have already been provided. When we were given breakfast, we weren't asked if we wanted sauces and when i asked for some toast it was seemed like it was extra trouble for them.

Review 140:The room was small but cosy, and the bed was very comfortable. We slept very well.
