Reviews for Quorn Grange Hotel
Review 1:Had to get reception to ask for someone to serve us a breakfast (not the end of the world).
Review 2:Comfortable room, lots of space and lovely bathroom. plenty of parking and easy to find.
Review 3:Reception staff curt. I had already paid for the room and was charged again when booking in. I did query this but it didn't seem to make a difference. I am now having to try to claim my money back.
Review 4:nice setting large bed nice room and bathroom
Review 5:where our room was situated access, for us was difficult. We are elderly and have extreme difficulty with stairs and the lift was on the other side of the building, even then there was a number of steps along the passages to and from the lift.
Review 6:The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the accommodation was so comfortable with excellent facilities.
Review 7:Pillows were quite flat and uncomfortable and beds hard. Sink in room smelt alittle too.
Review 8:The hotel including the rooms were lovely and clean, felt cosy and homely. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was nice and had a good choice on what to have.
Review 9:Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Very quiet over the Christmas period. Nice spacious bedroom/bathroom. Nice to have a sewing kit in the free toiletries as a button fell off my girlfriend's jacket. I haven't seen a sewing kit and shoe buffer in those for years! :)
Review 10:Staff were poorly trained; barman didn't know ingredients to a bloody Mary and has no idea about beer: changed barrel of real ale and didn't clean the line between old and new barrel, tired to hand over the yeast soup as a drink and also poured beer from a non swan neck beer tap with the tap in the beer.
Review 11:Great location; pretty hotel, friendly staff
Review 12:No bad experience but there is a slight smell in the bar - probably due to spilled beer or similar on the carpet or soft furnishings.
Review 13:The staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are lovely, even more so since they have been renovated. The breakfast buffet is delicious.
Review 14:This should be a great hotel but needs some money spent inside. The staff were friendly but didn't think that the hotel was that well run. Always plates or glasses laying around, tables not made up and all round not that professional. Shame.
Review 15:Great location
Review 16:Friendly and welcoming staff and the food was excellent. The room was clean and spacious and the enormous bed very comfortable. Will definitely stay again.
Review 17:Double bed was 2 singles together.
Review 18:Nice quiet hotel, lovely grounds although couldn't really discover them due to the weather, lovely fresh breakfast.
Review 19:Excellent, comfortable, clean room. Having booked only 48 hours in advance, the hotel proved very good value for money. We only needed a one night stay but would have happily stayed longer.
Review 20:Nothing !
Review 21:Very welcoming Hotel , I've stayed with my Partner and on this occasion stayed with my Dog ! The layout of the Hotel is great if you take a Furry Companion ...... Will stay again !
Review 22:Newly decorated, lovely fresh contemporary hotel. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Bad was huge and so comfortable, had the best night's sleep we've had in ages.
Review 23:Was a little hard to catch the attention of the staff at breakfast, and I did see two couples being given the same table for two - which the staff did not realise.
Review 24:Staff were polite and happy to help at all times
Review 25:The young staff were very nice and helpful, but seemed badly organised. We had to wait a long time to served at the bar, then at dinner we were brought butter but no bread until much later. The same service continued at breakfast, there was no one to ask for coffee (despite me wandering around trying to find someone), until we had eaten a third of our breakfast. Then the toast turned up when we had nearly finished. Eggs did not arrive until we had entirely finished. The quality of the food itself was variable, with some dishes very good (ham hock terrine, risotto, desserts) and others disappointing (bread served with dinner had consistency of a wet sponge, sea bass was badly cooked and over salty).
Review 26:The hotel has a nice feel, with comfortable rooms, lovely grounds and satisfactory public areas.
Review 27:Room was large, well equipped and had French doors leading to a garden. It was very quiet except for a few noisy guests who seem to appear everywhere nowadays. We didn't dine here but the buffet breakfast was very good.
Review 28:Room needed updates. badly fitting windows wouldn't close properly. First thing we noticed was the lack of varnish on the dresser top! quite unacceptable and vey off-putting when you enter the room.
Review 29:Great staff, excellent breakfast. generally, quite a smart place.
Review 30:We needed breakfast at 7.30 because we had a show to get to . It was a little late but the staff were apologetic and had a excellent attitude
Review 31:The room was immaculate and spacious
Review 32:Booked executive room. Very nice apart from the fact that it was directly above the function room with very loud band music and vibrating floor. Manager young, and not great at dealing with the problem: He said that they were running a business and that some people wouldn't mind enduring the very loud music in their room until midnight??????? Don't even think of staying here if there is a function on. We had to move to another hotel.
Review 33:Good location
Review 34:Didn't realise that the place would be overrun by a wedding then a 3 yr old's party. Disappointing that the 'restaurant' was actually the breakfast room with absolutely no ambiance at all. No minibar and no safe in the room.
Review 35:Beautiful gardens. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food. Nice room.
Review 36:For me the mattress was not comfortable but used to a very high quality mattress at home. Also a room a little on the hot side. But otherwise exceptionally clean and just my own personal preference really.
Review 37:Fantastic restaurant and food. Service a little slow but as was mid week not completely unacceptable. Would go back just for the food - exceptional, delicious and perfectly cooked.
Review 38:Catering staff said they had not been informed of my dietary requirements (given a few months in advance!), therefore breakfast was rather poor for me, while being excellent to those without special requirements. Also the coffee wasn't freshly made, out of tune with the rest which was excellent!
Review 39:Facilities in room excellent, with most beautiful gardens, terraces and more!
Review 40:Wooden floor hallways so could hear people walking, carpet would have been better.
Review 41:Beautiful hotel, quiet surroundings. Room was modern, big bathroom, well equipped. Breakfast was a super added bonus. For the price absolutely fantastic
Review 42:There was an issue with the room booking that was quickly resolved to outs complete satisfaction.
Review 43:Idyllic setting, very quiet and relaxing. Lovely food.
Review 44:Some of the decor was a bit dated, although it looked like some repainting was underway.
Review 45:Facilities were excellent, receptionist was friendly and polite, breakfast in particular was fantastic, would definitely recommend.
Review 46:Booked in for the night as invited to a function which started at 2pm. Phoned hotel, told booking time of 2pm, needed to change just before and was told it would cost a further £10.00 to check in before 2pm. Not very happy. Staff did not seem to want to go out of their way to help, otherwise apart from that it was a comfortable stay.
Review 47:lovely room, very comfortable bed
Review 48:No spare iron for clothes. Breakfast was a bit disorganised. Tablecloth wasn't cleaned from previous diners, not enough staff on to cover the numbers.
Review 49:Good location, nice hotel and comfortable. Generally a good experience.
Review 50:Bar shut between 1-2 am after a wedding, I thought there was no bar closing time for residents? Came down for breakfast at 9.45, almost all the hot food had gone and didn't look like it was going to be replaced. When the wedding ended, the staff cleared the room around us, rather than moving us into the bar, they were banging and crashing around us to set up for the next day but could this not be done behind closed doors or first thing the next day? Once the tables had been moved, I could not believe how dirty the carpet was.
Review 51:Beautiful setting, wedding in the gardens, food was lovely.
Review 52:No hot water at night for bath or shower and no plug in bath. Plug was resolved quickly by calling reception. Still no hot water in morning, only tepid. Spoke to manager, who apologised and gave us a discounted bill proportionate to the issues. Was treated fairly and with no fuss. Despite problems, would stay hear again.
Review 53:Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely clean room. Wonderful grounds, well kept. Great breakfast.
Review 54:The staff were professional and friendly. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The gardens and location were superb. It was a truly lovely hotel.
Review 55:The only negative comment is the room had no TV remote. We simply reported this to reception and was told it would be sent up to us. It took a second go to the reception before it actually turned up.
Review 56:My Girlfriend and i have stayed at quorn grange once before around 18 months ago and was very impressed with the overall standards of the hotel. Strangely we had exactly the same room as our previous stay. 18 months on and things around the hotel are looking a bit tired around the edges, but nothing to stop a quiet and peaceful stay.
Review 57:Breakfast was very disorganised. TV wasn't working in room. There were wasps in the bathroom and there was no table.
Review 58:Great location great hotel beautiful gardens
Review 59:The morning at breakfast was a busy time, but if the very young and very inexperienced staff were taught how to do things it would have been a lot better. For example when clearing tables use a tray so that they could take more than two items at a time. When I asked for toast I was brought one slice but no butter, when I asked for another slice I again had to ask for butter. The occasional smile would also be appreciated!
Review 60:The location and the village
Review 61:TV had a bad reception on certain channels but it wasn't really a problem and Wi-Fi reception was poor but that was to be expected considering the location.
Review 62:Staff were friendly, food was good, not far to town, nice and clean with pretty gardens. Good location. Would stay here again without a doubt. I got a good deal which was even better.
Review 63:Weddings taking place on both of our days. Friday night couldn't get a meal in the restaurant, no staff could be found in that area. or served at the bar, too many people because of the wedding. Dinner out at Mio in the village. Saturday dinner out, but on our return no chance of a night cap again, the bar was not for our use. packed with people. The only other problem I had was related to our car, It's a Outlander Phev (electric). It would be nice to have designated parking bays for plug in facilities. The weddings did take over the Hotel, but it didn't spoil our visit, in fact it was entertaining. We would love to return at a future date.
Review 64:The room was v/good. view over the gardens. Breakfast could not be beaten.
Review 65:Attended a wedding. Food mediocre. Very poor service (some people had finished their main course before others had even got theirs). Breakfast same low standard, had to ask 3 times for toast. Dirty bar. Staff seem to lack training and leadership.
Review 66:Lovely building and grounds
Review 67:Just a note of caution really... this is a beautiful venue for a wedding but it obviously gets very busy (and noisy) in the public areas when they are hosting one. We were given a table in the restaurant for our bar meal as there was nowhere else to sit so it worked out well for us.
Review 68:This is a lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. We had a very nice ground floor bedroom with patio doors opening out onto the garden. The room had obviously been refurbished recently and was spotless. Breakfast was very nice as was our evening bar meal and the staff were all excellent.
Review 69:evening meal was not the best, too much neuvelle quisine not enough good honest basic food.
Review 70:bed and bedroom, the overall quality of the hotel,up there with the best.
Review 71:Checkout time is very early 10.30. Asked for an extension till 11:30. Been told £10 extra charge.
Review 72:Manager was very good. He let us use the meeting room while it was empty.
Review 73:The staff were the best. Every member of staff I engaged with were friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel was in a beautiful location, lovely gardens and the rooms were a really good size.
Review 74:Room was nice but location of wardrobe meant u couldn't actually open the door properly. Hallways looking a bit tired, could do with updating!
Review 75:Nice location, within walking distance to local pubs and restaurants if you didn't want to stay in hotel. Quick Efficient check in. Good value for money.
Review 76:Very Friendly staff, excellent service and a nice room, very good value for money. We had a long journey on the day of our sons graduation and by pre arrangement were able to get our room earlier to freshen up before the event.
Review 77:The meals and drinks all good value for money. The surrounding areas all immaculately kept, very peaceful and relaxed atmosphere throughout. Staff were helpful & service was delivered with a smile.
Review 78:The hotel is in a great location, close to amenities and transport links, but set amongst beautiful and peaceful landscaped gardens. Our weekend stay was relaxed and enjoyable. Very good service and friendly, capable staff. The quality of housekeeping was excellent.
Review 79:We have been to this hotel before and enjoyed it however if we stay there again we would check that there was not a wedding party staying the sat night was horrendous !!! Door slamming noisy people Noisy door slamming people ---
Review 80:Everything was excellant--- room breakfast gardens v good
Review 81:Slamming bedroom doors started at 6am which is due to the hinges - needs attention. We took late breakfast, where staff seemed a bit clue-less - very slow.
Review 82:Good location and comfortable rooms
Review 83:There was nothing that I didn't like about this visit. Some of the decor in the general corridors between the newer rooms was a little tired and clinical but nothing serious.
Review 84:The room and the bathroom facilities were clean airy and spacious. Everything worked properly and the WiFi was both reliable and free. The gardens were great - very nice indeed and very well maintained!
Review 85:Room was clean and comfortable, staff very helpful and obliging. Restaurant menu was limited but all food selected was tasty and well prepared. Pleasant gardens, I would have no hesitation in staying there again.
Review 86:Loved the location, the grounds were beautiful and VERY well kept. the hotel was quiet, good facilities and the staff were VERY helpfull. Food was also very high standard with plenty of choice.
Review 87:Had booked a twin room but got a double which upset my autistic son a lot so I had to sleep on the floor
Review 88:Very clean and lovely building and gardens , great breakfast
Review 89:breakfast finished at 10.30, but the chef apparently doesn't cook anything fresh after 10.00! Also, checkout was too early at 10.30 so not time to leisurely finish breakfast and then clear your room...
Review 90:Excellent grounds and garden. Free parking, good size rooms and excellent shower in my room. Small gym but well equipped. Relaxing environment, nice and quiet.
Review 91:Advertised as 8 miles from Donnington Park, but actually 15 miles. Disappointing as we were visiting DP and chose this hotel due to it's proximity £15 extra for the dog! Tired decor, in need of a refund
Review 92:Pet friendly, good food, comfortable bed, pleasant staff. The grounds were beautiful and the village was very pretty
Review 93:24 hour room service was available but we couldn't use it when we needed it during the night as the phone did not workquality
Review 94:Very comfortable bed, the staff were welcoming and polite, the garden is beautiful.
Review 95:The bar was very dull and needed "lifting". The dining room was a little chaotic with too few staff and the staff needed training in how to welcome guests. The dining room itself was very pleasant, overlooking the delightful garden, and our evening meals were delicious; breakfast was inadequate.
Review 96:Beautiful grounds, friendly staff who willingly changed our room because of a noisy heating pipe. Very good location for Castle Donnington circuit and Calke Abbey.
Review 97:There wasn't any staff member waiting on to show us to our table for breakfast for well over 5 mins in the end we had to hunt them down.
Review 98:Lovely grounds and the staff were fantastic. Room was large and spacious and was the bathroom. The breakfast in the morning was knockout 10/10
Review 99:The only thing I want to point out is that the walls were very thin. I could hear conversations of people walking past so that was a bit annoying. Also, they only gave us one towel.
Review 100:We used this as a base for a friend's wedding in Prestwold Hall. We had to take a cab there which took 10-15 mins but that was fine with us. The hotel grounds were lovely, the buffet of full English breakfast was okay. However, all in all a pleasant stay.
Review 101:No bottled water in room No glasses in room Little tired needs some upgrades Door hardware is low and still key operated
Review 102:Location age of hotel Staff
Review 103:The seal at the bottom of the shower screen was mouldy. The corridors etc. especially in the newer part were generally a little dilapidated and in need of re-decoration.
Review 104:Breakfast was comprehensive and well served. Our executive room in the original building was characterful and pleasant. The bed was large and comfortable. The shower screen let it down - see dislikes.
Review 105:Front of hotel is deceiving. Looks to be very grand from the outside but inside fixtures are worn and tatty. Green carpet had stains on and the tables varnish was coming away. Old fashioned bamboo style furniture. Receptionist not very welcoming or friendly when we first arrived and the staff at breakfast were more preoccupied with something in the kitchen than the guests in the dining room. Very overpriced for what you get.
Review 106:Pleasant, clean, quiet hotel in a fantastic area whilst away on business. Lovely, well kept gardens.
Review 107:Should provide bottled water in room ...also bathrobes would be useful so can enjoy relaxing bath
Review 108:Large , comfortable room , good location ,great view from bedroom. Delicious 3 course dinner. Lovely well maintained grounds . A pleasure to stay there
Review 109:The place was tired and much of the furniture in need of replacement. You passed through the bar to dining room for breakfast and on more than one occasion it smelt of stale beer.
Review 110:Location was good with own grounds.
Review 111:As I booked in I was told that the restaurant was fully booked. There was no provision for hotel guests to eat in the restaurant. Poor option of room service was the option offered.
Review 112:The bed
Review 113:Room in need of some refurbishment -furniture dated and losing finish/varnish.Some decorating needed. Wouldnt have been happy at full price but got a good rate. Would go again.
Review 114:Staff and location great. Breakfast good, room spacious, large bathroom
Review 115:Not a bad experience but a few small niggles. Furniture looked a bit tired and one of bedside bulbs was blown. Met Manager who told us that rooms were being refurbished but due to high level of bookings work was not complete.
Review 116:Easy going friendly atmosphere. Look forward to next visit.
Review 117:I asked for twin room and was given king size. This was a pleasant surprise but could have been awkward depending who I was sharing a room with. They also accpeted my request for a 1pm check but on arrival I was told I had to leave by 11am. I also asked for complimentary wine as my stay was for a celebration but this was not acknowledged.
Review 118:Gorgeous surroundings! The staff were all very friendly and the hotel was lovely and warm! Lovely English breakfast too!
Review 119:Breakfast service was disorganised The electrical items in room 14 were 2 months out of date to be PAT tested
Review 120:Bar Prices reasonable Nice quiet clean room 10 minute walk to village Shower and water pressure
Review 121:Poor bar service and poor restaurant service, so we decided to walk into the village to eat instead. Breakfast was average - had to ask for buffet to be topped up. No-one to show you to your seat, felt uncared for as a guest. The room was worn out, it has stains on the lampshades, dents in the walls and cracked windowsills. Not the refurbished rooms they advertise on their website!
Review 122:The bed was comfortable and very big :) Close to quorn, only 15 minutes walk into town.
Review 123:The bed was very big but it was 2 mattresses put together so there was a big ridge right down the Middle which was quite uncomfortable so you had to lay either side of it .
Review 124:Nice room but didn't get a garden view as booking suggested, we overlooked the car park. Nice bar area. Good gym. Lovely friendly cat onsite !
Review 125:Ran out of eggs at breakfast no one keeping eye on stock levels and keeping up with supply .but plenty of other things
Review 126:Room wasn't a refund shed room but clean and good size.staff great especially Charlie he couldn't do enough very proud of his hotel.lovley grounds peaceful
Review 127:Manners of the breakfast staff not the best when waited ten minutes for eggs to be added to the buffet. The bed was uncomfortable and the tv remote didn't work.
Review 128:The gym was the only added bonus. The reception staff were friendly enough.
Review 129:The room Cleaner , left her bottem print on the bed were she had been talking on the phone as our friends saw her never hooverd no refreshments left, could not put towels on bed ,slung on husbands case, bin liners left on top of bin as if to say do it yourself, one lazy cleaner
Review 130:loved the place friendley staff helpfull great location very clean and comfy, quite and peacefull location, Nice food and again great service
Review 131:Staff were pretty much all clueless, seems they all require proper training and some personality transplants! I was told at lunch time there would be a TDH menu available by 16 - 17:00 pm when Chef has written it, but later when we came to dine another dinning staff member didn't know what a TDH Menu was!! Then i was told there wasn't a TDH menu that night. So we then all (8 Guests) viewed the A la carte and bar menus & the majority wanted food from A la carte menu and the rest the bar menu. when we asked if we could have this together in the restaurant we were told that we would have to pay an additional 5 GBP for people eating from the bar menu, whole experience was a disaster they have no idea how to run a bar or restaurant. We all went out for a curry in Quorn instead which was excellent and saved ourselves a fortune
Review 132:Good shower water pressure excellent Lovely Grounds to the Hotel
Review 133:Tuesday morning the gas was off so no breakfast Wednesday morning a woman insisted on sneezing onto the buffet breakfast (no staff about to complain to) Friday breakfast was served an hour later do no breakfast then either
Review 134:Breakfast Nice location Very nice evening meal
Review 135:I had a good deal on this hotel from its usual rate. But I paid slightly more for a larger (Executive) room with a garden view. When I arrived I was only given a double with no view. No Executive rooms were available. Hotel did not have this instruction from Booking.com even though it was on my confirmation.
Review 136:No one on reception when we got back from a wedding around midnight. Had to wait 15 mins before anyone turned up. Woke up by maid knocking on door at 8.45 am. Got moved at breakfast due to table being succeptible to ants. No plates, underdone toast and burnt black pudding
Review 137:The room when we eventually got it at around 12.30 am
The Fine Print
