Reviews for Elounda Island Villas
Review 1:Is totally solar powered, meaning it’s better to use electricity 9am-6pm, which I totally approve of but I felt a bit guilty if I had to charge phone or dry hair outside these times! Shower worked more through gravity than pressure and only bare necessities are provided (towels and soap) which is totally fine, but having stayed in other hotels prior to this we'd got used to free refreshments, water, breakfast, toiletries, robes and slippers etc. (just water would have been nice!) We had to go out to stock up and the local supermarket when we just wanted to relax and settle in, wish I'd thought to bring a few bits with me on arrival hence the note in case handy for anyone else visiting for the first time.
Review 2:Breathtaking views! The most stunning of our whole stay in Crete - I frequently found myself on the balcony just staring at the sky and the water. Very simple, basic accommodation with an overall feeling of serenity and its unique setting on the island adds to the sense of 'escape'. Owners/managers were extremely nice, as were other guests, some of whom had been coming for years, and the art cafe and book exchange was a lovely place to spend some time, with delicious food (especially the smoothies with real Greek yoghurt ice cream - heavenly!) We also loved our massages (book in advance, approx 50 euros), which were extremely professional and experienced. Kolokytha beach nearby (5 min drive/10 min walk) is small but beautiful, great for snorkelling first thing or late afternoon (midday boats drop off there so too busy). As a note, check out is 12 (not 11 as it says here, or 10am as it said when I booked). We very much hope to return!
Review 3:The kitchen facilities are too basic. The refrigerator was rusty and old. The bathrooms are new and very nice but could be cleened concerning the faucets and mirrors a bit better.
Review 4:Lida and her personnel were so friendly and open hearted every day!!! They gave good advice concerning restaurants and excursions. The location with its view on the bay is unbeatable to those who like their surroundings a bit quieter! The architecture of the apartments and its balconies are wonderful and optimal for the hot climate in elounda.
Review 5:Mi è piaciuto tutto!
Review 6:La posizione della struttura è fantastica (unico hotel di tutta la penisola), la proprietaria, Lida, è una persona squisita! Ideale per vacanze all'insegna dello sport, relax, buon cibo, cultura....
Review 7:This is a great place to chill out; an oasis of calm; wonderful view; quiet location but everything within walking reach. We loved our stay, and will probably return.
Review 8:Lovely quiet location with fantastic views of the sea. Easy walk to Elounda which has good choice of restaurants in the evening. Small beach by villas ideal for swimming . Great breakfasts by Maria and owner Lida made us feel welcome.
Review 9:Given the relative isolation of the villa and the fact that the cafe is closed in the evenings, I feel the kitchen facilities could be improved - we would have cooked our own food more if the kitchen facilities had been slightly better. Your own transport (car, bike, etc) will make life much easier, even just for bringing supplies from the town. This is just a fact of the location, so it doesn't really count as a negative point, but it is worth knowing before you arrive.
Review 10:The location is superb, across the bay from the main resort. Fantastic snorkelling, rocky coves, hidden beaches - not for the white sand, sun-worshipping brigade! Lovely gardens, fantastic sea views from every apartment. Our apartment was split over four levels, with a large balcony, so there was plenty of space for a family of four. There were two very modern, clean bathrooms with showers. Leda the owner was very friendly and made us all feel welcome. She is a wealth of information about the local area. A small shallow beach is directly in front of the villa, so we could see our children playing in the water from the balcony. The snorkelling is the best I've ever experienced in Greece, with a crystal clear rocky bay just 5 minutes' walk away. About half the time we cooked our own food and ate on the balcony watching the sunset. The cleaners were remarkably good at just popping in while we were out, rather than knocking on the door right after breakfast like they do in many places.
Review 11:There are some nice beaches on the island, but rather smaller ones with stones/pebbles than sand. But the water is really perfect, Next time we go there we will take a car to get more easily to nice beaches
Review 12:Very very nice place, quiet, interior is very tastful et practical (two bathrooms!, two terrasses, kitchen ok), owners are very nice and helpful, view is great, location is unique - only house on this small island, nice 15 minutes walk to the village over the bridge for shopping and restaurants
Review 13:It has been the best holiday I have ever had! Elounda island is a hidden paradise and the houses are so confortable. The places for a swim, especially the rocks, are fantastic. Snorkeling till late in the afternoon in the crystal water is a relaxing and pleasant routine here. We didn't have a car and we were eating at the Art Cafe in front of the cluster. The food is pure greek and tasty. We didn't bother to buy all this 'made in chine' souvenirs from Elounda, we found authentic and special handmade art work at the Cafe in Elounda Island. Highly recommended.
Review 14:The only down side of our stay at Elounda Island Villas (and in all Elounda, probably all Crete): mosquitoes. We took out the mosquito repelling devices one night and the consequences were quite unpleasant - lots of bites and little sleep. Having learnt our lesson, we left the insect repellent plugged in, and the mosquitoes left.
Review 15:Perfectly relaxed! We arrived at Elounda Island Villas at night (drove from Heraklion Airport).Even though we knew our accommodation was on a little island, outside the town of Elounda, we were charmed by the surroundings and the immediate proximity of the very calm stretch of sea water. The little cafe area in front welcomed us with a calm atmosphere and a friendly light in an otherwise completely dark landscape.A written note from Lida guided us to our villa - Villa 1, remote, discreet and quiet. It was love at first sight: simple, yet cleverly designed, the villa is split on four levels, providing us with more than enough space for lounging, sleeping, preparing a few meals and showering & bathing (2 bathrooms were quite a perk, since I hate being rushed). The decor is rustic and simple, but in perfectly good taste and carefully chosen. Lida's artwork on the walls is quite a nice touch: it's clear that fitting these villas is a labour of love, and the family poured their heart and soul into everything inside and around the little houses. The olive and palm trees, the hibiscus flowers and the hedges surrounding the classical yet modern Greek-style villas are well cared for and watered every day.The pathway to our own was always pleasantly cool and shadowed, accompanied by a tropical choir of cicadas. The terrace outside our place was also a nice to have - we loved taking long dinners under the starry sky. And, as long as the light was not on, the mosquitoes didn't bother us too much.
Review 16:Idyllic location, serene and charming. The staff were very pleasant and friendly.
Review 17:No air con in a particularly hot week was tricky to cope with
Review 18:Lovely location great to have cafe on site owner and staff very welcoming
Review 19:The location and relaxed nature of the owners' whole approach to providing a real Cretan experience.
Review 20:Very quiet and peaceful
Review 21:The staff. The sea. The food. The quiet.
Review 22:Fabulous location and very peaceful setting
Review 23:Minimal investment in improvements that would increase guests'comfort. The owners obviously believe that tourists will keep on comingfor the beauty of the location regardless of equipment that is severaldecades old and substandard for this price range (in the rooms we renteda light bulb needed replacing, there was a bare minimum of cutlery andkitchen essentials, we were fighting mosquitos and had to share withother guests a single clothes line at the back of the property with justa handful of clothes pegs). There are lots of mosquitos in the area butno mosquito nets on bathroom windows or anywhere else. Evident lack ofprofessionalism.
Review 24:The location really is as described with peaceful surroundings andunspoilt nature. Both the property and the rooms are tastefullyarranged and decorated with no ugly details. The place is certainlycalm and relaxing. Breakfast and the single homemade dish available forlunch are good.
Review 25:I would have like to have shower curtains. The spectacular view from the window while showering makes this a minor inconvenience.
Review 26:Excellent and scenic location! It's very peaceful and the perfect place to decompress. It's remote from the tourist center while at a walking distance. The daughter's owner is very friendly and I had interesting discussions with her.
Review 27:Too many stairs internally
Review 28:Great location
