Reviews for The Lion Hotel
Review 1:The hotel lobby was being decorated and rewired but we were given an excellent deal which more than made up for the inconvenience
Review 2:We have stayed in this hotel several times before and are always satisfied with the quality and convenience.
Review 3:- The room was not clean, the duvets were unclean and their colour was yellow. They were covered by what was supposed to be a clean cover, which was not clean either. - The same for pillows, I tried to avoid touching the pillows all night long, and I used a TShirt to keep my face away from them. - The room was cold, so cold at night that I had to sleep with my jacket on !! This alone should have driven me out of the hotel at the very first night, except that I was with friends and didn’t want to ruin the arrangements. - The surrounding town and area is beautiful, but there are very few attractions in that area. - The breakfast buffet was supposed to be “Intercontinental buffet”, as per the website that we booked from. We ended up with a standard Welsh breakfast. I like the Welsh breakfast, but when I buy a blue shirt I expect it to be blue, I will be very disappointed if it was green although green is good too. - The place was expensive, so expensive that I really expected it to be way better. I still have no idea why this place was so expensive.
Review 4:- They have a cute cat in the reception hall, that is possibly the only thing I liked in this hotel.
Review 5:The bed was diabolical, it was uncomfortable, the pillows were poor quality and hard. The most important thing when judging whether you would re-book a hotel is the quality of the bed. Our stay was badly let down by the quality of the bad.
Review 6:Everything apart from the bed
Review 7:Dirty bathroom: we found stools on toilet brush and someone else's toothpaste in the sink. very old and smelly furniture, too expensive for what it is, very uncomfortable matresses, they haven't been changed in the last 30 years.
Review 8:Nothing
Review 9:The walls are seemly a bit thin after spending a very restless first night due to a neighbouring guest snoring!
Review 10:The staff were pleasant and very friendly. The room was a little retro for my liking but homely and comfortable all the same.
Review 11:Restaurant meal ordered 2 steaks which where 1 overcooked & 1 undercooked, only credited for one meal. enjoyed breakfast & bar meal excellent !
Review 12:Good accommodation & warm.
Review 13:The hotel food was very poor and even when told that the rice was burnt, the member of staff didn't come back to apologise. The family room stank of stale cigarette smoke, not nice when you have a baby.. The room was so noisy we were frequently woken by children bouncing on the beds upstairs and walking around the floorboards. Also I could hear the man next door snoring loudly all night. It was so bad we left one night early even though we had to pay. Also the drains stank in the bathroom.
Review 14:Criccieth is a nice place with coastal walks and a pebbly beach to play on. The new restaurant on the front, Dylan's, is also worth booking into.
Review 15:Room had lots of squeaky floorboards. Internet was very slow. Breakfast didn't start until 8.15 which is very late and food stopped before 5 on Sunday evening. Not cheap
Review 16:Location was good with a good car park. Breakfast was decent enough.
Review 17:Size of the room; two people could not move around at the same time. Bath made very creaky noises and was a bit small, parking was limited.
Review 18:Breakfast was very good, the staff very friendly
Review 19:the beds werent very comfortable. the staff resolved the problem a little by providing a matress topper.
Review 20:we liked the location, friendly helpful staff and been able to have a drink in the bar and order bar food.
Review 21:.
Review 22:great staff, lovely hotel, warm and welcoming. we had dinner in the restaurant both nights which, was fantastic and great value for money, rooms were very clean and comforatable beds. we will be booking again
Review 23:The staff were all very friendly and helpful, it was like staying at home. The rooms were light and well laided out the bathroom was big with a powerful shower. One of the nicest, most comfortable places we have stayed.
Review 24:Parking is very limited, especially when coaches take up several spaces. Rooms are dated and would benefit from a small fridge, and better quality toiletries. Wifi was very poor and difficult to access.
Review 25:Breakfast was okay. Good views of the castle.
Review 26:Rooms outside of central hotel aren't very sound proofed but good enough for my particular needs at the time.
Review 27:Perfect location, lovely breakfast, comfortable rooms and good value for money.
Review 28:The bed.... could feel the metal edges of the matress and was noisy everytime you turned over.
Review 29:Staff very friendly. Breakfast perfect and plenty of choice
Review 30:when the people in the room above us were moving about it was very noisy in our room
Review 31:the staff were cheerful and helpful our room had good views in a central location
Review 32:the hotel is clean and tidy, staff are very good nothing to much trouble for them, food was very good and good variety of beer what more can you ask for. lol
Review 33:The Wifi was less than useless It worked on my Laptop but not on any mobile phone
Review 34:The breakfast, service was excellent I have stayed at the George for over 20 years I will now stay at the Lion Hotel
Review 35:Bathroom could do with a bit of a tidy up and the windows didn't quite shut to, meaning it was quite cold in the morning. There was loud music on this particular night however I think this may have been coming from a neighbouring property. Also, the lack of parking was a little frustrating but managed to park near the hotel on the road.
Review 36:The location of the hotel was good, near to the main road in Criccieth. The room was fairly comfortable.
Review 37:Stopped in the cottage rooms (separate from the hotel) which were very cramped and every sound could be heard from the next door (people talking, light switches being switched on and off) and the shower was very noisy. Was worried about having the television on for fear of disturbing the neighbours. There was parking available when we arrived but after going out for the day we returned to find two coaches in the car park. One had a designated place but the other parked long ways over all the spaces left which was rather inconsiderate as it took up about 6 spaces.
Review 38:The staff were very efficient and hard working and the bathroom was very clean. The vegetarian breakfast was excellent with a good selection of food laid out. The reception area was very nice to sit and have a drink in, as was the bar. The hotel was in a good location with a short walk to the beach.
Review 39:Dining room staff are reasonably friendly but seemed rushed and not too attentive. We stayed in room 7 on the 1st floor, the floor boards & joists in the room above were very noisy and creaked at what seemed the slightest use, this became irritating late at night or early morning! Building exterior could do with refreshing. Would have liked freshly brewed coffee at breakfast rather than instant. Breakfast hot plate was slow to be refreshed and lacked a choice of obvious things like mushrooms, black pudding, poached egg, but included tinned tomatoes :-(
Review 40:Spacious family room with a double and twin bed. En-suite shower room which was modern and clean. Reception staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast was well laid out and there was the opportunity to have as much as you liked.
Review 41:Shower was a little small. There was room for a bigger shower.
Review 42:Staff very friendly. Cleanliness was very good. Breakfast was excellent Bar meals were very good.
Review 43:Lovely hotel The staff were fantastic - they couldn't be more helpful. Breakfast was delicious. Hotel is in a great location and the views from the sea view rooms is beautiful
Review 44:Room & ensuite could have been cleaner - dust layer on all furniture, dirty cups
Review 45:Great staff, very friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. Excellent location, lovely town. Breakfast very good,
Review 46:We enjoyed our stay at The Lion very much.It was comfortable and cosy and the staff were all very helpul. The views from our room were lovely-looking over the front of Criccieth Beach over to Harlech.
Review 47:Thin floors so noise from guests moving in room upstairs woke us a couple of times. Wifi room reception was very poor and kept logging us out
Review 48:Bathroom very new & clean choice of restaurant and bar meals comfortable seating area in lobby close to beaches & convenient for Snowden National area
Review 49:I had requested rooms on the upper floor for a sea view which we didn't get and would have liked but having said that I fully understand that there were no guarantees.
Review 50:Staff were very friendly and food was lovely. A little background music in the dining room would have been nice as it was very quiet when we had our evening meal. Car parking was a plus.
Review 51:This was a great location--I plan to bring our Celtic Roots students and community members with me in summer 2017 as part of our trip. Will get back in touch later, as I took your contact information. And I will likely be back myself in August 2016 to enjoy the Wordsworth setting and the Lakes. Many thanks. Sylvia
Review 52:Dirty marks on the ancillary blanket, holes in the bed cover and one towel. Clearly the hotel don't know about block out in curtains There was a 'bug' on the breakfast table, don't know how to cook bacon.
Review 53:position
Review 54:It was an awful place. We were given a twin room view on the car park with the smell of the kitchen. Absolutely awful place and horrifically expensive for what you are getting..
Review 55:A little 'dated' and , for us, restrictive meals times for restaurant.eg late breakfast from 08.15 For our visit, after walking in the rain, some drying facilities would have been very useful.
Review 56:Comfortable twin room with good heating, new bathroom and plenty of hot water. Good location in town centre, walking distance from beach and shops/restaurants. Good basis breakfast and efficient waiting staff..
Review 57:We were not aware we were accommodated in an annex not the hotel. One morning it was raining so we had to run over for breakfast. The bed was not good small double and very poor base which creeked just sitting on it.
Review 58:Staff on desk and at breakfast friendly and helpful.
Review 59:Very dusty bedside lockers cobwebs from light and ceiling! Bathroom floor not cleaned from previous guests. Hairs found on floor.
Review 60:Such a comfortable bed. Pillows and mattress excellent. Lovely friendly atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful. Good location handy for shops and beach.
Review 61:Breakfast times were quite limited.
Review 62:Clean, bright room, very friendly and helpful staff, very central location. Nice lounge area as an alternative to the bar.
Review 63:The fact that breakfast was served so early. it was a little dated.
Review 64:Breakfast was great even though we had no chance of a lay in as it was served so early, staff friendly and helpful
Review 65:A lumpy mattress on a board topped bed base didn't make for a good nights sleep. Appalling TV reception. Deal rate wasn't a deal at all, we paid the standard rate for the room, as listed in the room information book.(£46.50pppn).
Review 66:Service and waiting on staff absolutely superb
Review 67:They have split a cottage in the gardens called 'lion Cottage' which is nothing short of disgraceful l .Decor out of the 60's and when I politely mentioned it to the staff I was told "you can always go and stay somewhere else !!". avoid this hotel and find a hostel ! Wouldn't even have breakfast just wanted out.
Review 68:I travelled with my Grandson, it was his first time in a hotel and will have good memories. It was a warm friendly atmosphere and the staff were lovely. We only stayed one night but would stay there again.
Review 69:carpet in room one could of been a bit cleaner, room 2 bedsheet was dirty and guests above very noisey.
Review 70:location and staff amazing, food and restuarant great.
Review 71:The receptionist was not knowledgeable about the UK nor the location of the hotel and her manner was a little abrupt and quite unlike what we experienced in other English hotels. Perhaps employ local staff ?
Review 72:Room was a bit on the small side. We were on the ground floor in the cottages and were woken every time residents on the floor above started walking about due to creaking floors.
Review 73:Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was varied and plentiful the evening meal was at a reasonable price and tasted lovely.
Review 74:Every room has a sani-flow unit in it. Our first bedroom (N0 23) was surrounded by other rooms toilets and the walls were thin so we heard quite a lot of noise with the sani-flow units as well as people in their toilets. We ended up whispering to each other, then decided to make a complaint. The staff were good and quickly gave us a much better room. In one sentence, The Lion needs to re-think their soundproofing of rooms.
Review 75:The Views were great
Review 76:Despite asking for toast to be served after hot breakfast the manager persisted in directing staff to serve first. It was then cold and tough by the time we ate it. There was a lump in the bed, perhaps broken spring, at hip height. There was always an unpleasant 'public toilet' smell in the lift.
Review 77:There was a lift which, for me, was essential as heart problem makes stair climbing inadvisable. Very nice room with plenty of storage and tea/coffee making facility. Efficient shower with constant hot water. Two very good singers provided entertainment on two evenings (one each evening). Three out of the four nights we were able to park in the hotel's car park.
Review 78:Hotel is in the middle of town and only 10 minutes from the sea front. The staff are wonderful, so obliging and cheerful. The décor of the hotel is slightly old fashioned but it suits the building, we loved it. Bathrooms are fab!
Review 79:Very friendly and helpful staff and excellent bar meals. Friendly cat (with its own fridge magnet and postcard) also in residence and clearly very popular (but not likely to upset non-cat people)!
Review 80:TV poor reception The older gentleman in the bar on evening could work on his people skills as non existent
Review 81:Breakfast , older gentleman that served in the breakfast area happiest person working there
Review 82:The hotel is dated, the brochure describes it as"exceptional". The pictures on their website are notrepresentative of the rooms, certainly not ours. Not by a long shot.Room was tiny with 2xtwin beds pushed together and called a King, roomsmelt of shake and vac, musty carpets, windows opened out to main road.Ok at night, very noisy during day. Coachhouse conversion it was not. However, we made the best of our trip. The breakfasts were fine. Lots ofhot water, no wifi or air con. Parking was impossible especially whenskip with old bedroom furtniture occupying a space.
Review 83:The staff did their best, the location was easy to get to. The room wasclean, just cheap furniture, smelly carpet.
Review 84:Decoration tired made room very dark. Cleaning could be more detailed.
Review 85:Hotel well located for going places. Comfortable bed and beautiful shower. Staff very helpful
Review 86:from july 10, Friday night is curry night so no restaurant availability, only option is bar food in bar which is chaotic Don't expect to park on site if you arrive after 5pm
Review 87:Convenient location
Review 88:Parking was sometimes difficult in an evening and it is possible non-guests were parking there also!
Review 89:The hotel was easy to find, in a nice and quiet location! The room was clean, spacious and had great views. The staff were all polite and helpful and the breakfast was very nice!
Review 90:Cooked breakfast was a a little below par and WIFI connection was a bit hit-and-miss. Decor dated.
Review 91:Friendly staff, clean rooms. Close proximity to very good restaurants. Nice view.
Review 92:We've been before and the quality of the meals has gone down. We had to send one back as completely inedible which was replaced with a smile and the offer of a free dessert but it should not be like this. The roast of the day was very poor for something which is home cooked. Although everything was clean it is in need of some serious TLC.
Review 93:Great location, friendly staff and reasonable parking.
Review 94:I could only park in the hotel car park on the first day, but since my Wife is disabled, it would be impossible to enter the hotel from there, fortunately we managed to park very close to the hotel. I feel there should be a grab rail in the shower for the elderly.
Review 95:Convenience of position, easy to find and park nearby, the staff were all so obliging and helpful.
Review 96:Bed was hard and bedroom décor fussy.
Review 97:Breakfast was excellent with many choices and ample quantity.Bathroom was refurbished clean and modern Parking was easy and location of hotel near to beach.
Review 98:evening meal , bread rolls came warm & had melted all the butter in the basket , veg was watery, fish and prawns did not taste of anything, terrible , service was poor , breakfast was poor , all greasy hotel was a bit smelly in hall way and lift :( sorry !!!
Review 99:the view from my bedroom
Review 100:the whole hotel had an unpleasant smell, especially the lift which I need to use. I felt it was rather expensive at £21 for two single course bar meals. I would not choose to stay here again.
Review 101:the hotel was easy to find and the staff were very pleasant. The breakfast was very varied in choice and good.
Review 102:Breakfast was lovely but had Sea bass for evening meal which wasn't good but they were busy so I let that one go. Wouldn't be afraid to give evening meal another chance since everything else was good.
Review 103:They arranged an early breakfast for our group at fairly short notice. The car park catered for some of the guys motorcycles with no issues of security. Great base for our travels.
Review 104:Only downside for me was no bath in bedroom on shower, and the mattress was very hard for my liking. Nothing really negative just personal preference. The decor was very old fashioned and dated
Review 105:Food was amazing, the al a carté menu is a must. Staff were very helpful with suggestions of places to visit
Review 106:Only problem being the lack of wi-fi, but sorted early Monday morning.(Could not find out Challenge Cup scores)
Review 107:Staff helpful and friendly. Facilities were fine. Service excellent.
Review 108:No value for money, we had to book what was left as we were late anyway. But the room we were offered it's overpriced for what offers, quite tiny. The mattress was uncomfortable and somebody on the top room with a dog that was quite annoying. WiFi was barely working on that side
Review 109:Breakfast Castle view Cute place
Review 110:The room was a little grubby and needed a good vacuum. The hotel is a little dated but it is the oldest in the town so this is to be expected.
Review 111:The hotel is central to the town with a short walk to shops, pubs and the few restaurants. There is a car park - it is a funny shape but there were enough spaces but may be a bit tight in the high season. There is free parking around the village green just outside the hotel. The castle and beach and a few tea shops are all within easy reach. The room was adequate at the front of the hotel with TV, coffee, toiletries and hairdryer. Bathroom/wetroom had a decent shower with a shower curtain and small cubicle configuration. Breakfast was a buffet style, basic choice but was hot and plentiful.Staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel had a large reception/lounge comprising of arm chairs and tables. There was also a bar which served food but was more of a sports bar with TV so more suitable for families.
Review 112:The WiFi connection was very patchy.
Review 113:I like the location, the breakfast buffet and the bar. The latter serves a good selection of real ale, which is unusual for a hotel.
Review 114:Our twin-bedded room was shabby with wrinkled carpet and we suffered from occupants of room over us retiring after 11pm and rising at 5.45am, dropping things in the process; because walls so thin, people walking along passageways disturbed us as well Our duvets were the same width as the single bed mattresses which seemed really mean. The room was tidied daily but not vacuumed. There were large coach parties and big group of vintage car enthusiasts staying and the noise levels in the dining room particularly were unbearable.
Review 115:The staff were very efficient and thoughtful throughout.
Review 116:Third night terrible as someone stayed above me. Noise insulation needs improving. Late to sleep and woken at 5am by noise from above. There were signs everywhere. Don't do this, don't do that etc. particularly in the bar. Really not in tune with the character of the place
Review 117:Friendly, helpful staff even when rushed by coach parties (seems to be a core business)
Review 118:Expensive and no one come and clean the room after one day lady come and ask us if v need anything?? Lunch time I order leak and chicken pie and fish pie was ok but gravy was too salty which was already on the top of pie so it's spoiled everything fish was frozen not fresh.when I complaint to waiter she didn't resposed. Breakfast was too expensive and nothing was for vegetarian.
Review 119:Location
Review 120:Shower was cold (3 attempts) Breakfast - toast cold, coffee very weak, love a few more veggie options on there, like mushrooms/ grilled tomatoes. But overall not a bad brekky.
Review 121:We loved the family room, bright and very clean. Staff were friendly. Location is great. Bar was a nice area to get a drink and sit outside.
Review 122:We are son and mother, there isn't a category for us. Pillows were too high (comment from 15 yr old teenage boy). I would suggest the continental breakfast is reveiwed. We had an early start so unable to enjoy a full English breakfast however the porridge was perfect.
Review 123:Honesty of staff. Teenage son dropped his wallet and this was handed in the following morning, so refreshing, thank you.
Review 124:Nothing happy with everything
Review 125:Hotel was lovely staff professional and happy to help really enjoyed stay bedroom good size with a bath and corner shower had meal in hotel all lovely and my 12 year was happy with the Free wi fi!
Review 126:One evening meal had to be returned as undercooked but was immediately replaced and not charged for
Review 127:Staff helpfulness and service. Central location. Ideal for our visit
Review 128:Veggie options on the cooked breakfast appeared limited - that said this is a common problem so not unique to the Lion
Review 129:The location was great, bar/restaurant was very reasonably priced & food was lovely
Review 130:Nothing was open on the hotel apart from the bar, was early season but nothing was said when booking that the restaurant was closed and only bar food was available! Plus building work was being done on second floor so only access to third floor was by the old lift. Would be a nice place when everything is finished but we should have been warned of the works going on.
Review 131:Location was good, very close to beach and good parking. Room was ok if a bit dated and staff were very friendly.
Review 132:The Lion Hotel is a very friendly hotel all the staff are very polite and helpful. The location for us as a family was excellent as we were visiting family. It was also great location for walking to the shops and site seeing.
Review 133:My first room was in the Annex and it wasn't the best, I could see some people being disappointed in it. For me I just needed a bed and a TV and WiFi and I'm happy. However the WiFi was flaky that night and I couldn't connect in the annex room. So the lady on reception offered to move me into the main hotel, which was a fantastic gesture. The room was lovely and the WiFi was fine. Happy me. :D
Review 134:The food was lovely, it's usually just a bar/restaurant service, but as I got in late and was working that night the staff did room service for me which was awesome. On the morning I was leaving I overslept and didn't have time for breakfast so they did me a sandwich to go. And the original room I was in didn't have good WiFi, so they moved me to another room without me prompting. So all I can say is that the staff are exemplary. Made my visit a very enjoyable one. I'll be back.
Review 135:Very comfortable and cozy lounge / lobby in which to relax. Staff excellent. Room had everything necessary for a good nights sleep. I stayed here because my first choice was un available. I shall not hesitate to return.
