Reviews for Strathpeffer Hotel
Review 1:Was warned that anything on the menu that wasn't fried would take in excess of half an hour even though we were the only ones in the restaurant - making it very clear they couldn't be bothered to cook anything complex No change available for the fruit machine Breakfast was tasteless and no choice was offered in the cooked breakfast
Review 2:This lodge is a neat old place but it requires some updating. The carpets are old and musty and the place needs dusting!
Review 3:The room was comfortable and clean. The village is very quiet and many tourist attractions were closed when I was there. The restaurant food was ok but not a big selection.
Review 4:Bit more shabby than chic. Bar closed, no manned reception on return from wedding reception so no nightcap for us! Rear facing rooms overlook embankment. Light not working above dressing table and no electric socket in this area. Very busy hotel and if owners put some investment into it this could be a wonderful hotel, then would have everything needed for pavilion wedding guests.
Review 5:Location great, excellent local restaurant. Pavilion, which is fabulous wedding venue, just across the road. Room sizes great and front facing rooms best. Staff very friendly.
Review 6:Pillow!!! (Personal - I use memory foam & could take my own!)
Review 7:Very helpful & delightful reception & bar manager. Chamber maid fab. Thanks. Adore that you have a lift so can travel with heavy case!!
Review 8:Was a bit frustrating at times when there did not seem to be a lot of staff available e.g. at reception at times.
Review 9:Ideal acccommodation and location for the purpose of my stay which was to attend a wedding on the Saturday in Strathpeffer
Review 10:Basic meals, poor bed and very tired furnishings. Price was too high for what was delivered as it should be advertised as 'hotel on its last legs with staff and facilities reflecting this'
Review 11:Front sitting room and the rural location
Review 12:noisy floor boards, got 2 bacon and sausage 2 halves of tomato with breakfast first morning, only one the second morning, no entertainment in evening, building in need of revamp.
Review 13:Did enjoy stay, friendly staff, good food in resturant,
Review 14:My son locked himself out of his room accidentally at night and we could not get hold of anyone by phone or otherwise to open his room door so he had to sleep on our room floor.
Review 15:It was a great location to attend a family wedding at the Strathpeffer Pavillion
Review 16:No food available after 8pm. Restaurant that we were directed to also was closed - luckily the village shop was still open and we were able to get ingredients and make a sandwich
Review 17:Quiet, convenient for where we needed to be.
Review 18:Was told,we,couldn't book in at 10min to three when booking time was Three. Hotel was less than half full so didn't think it should be a problem. Then had to say what time we would be down for breakfast.
Review 19:Very quiet town but hotel next to Eagle Stone and railway station which houses the Museum of Childhood. Helped in to hotel with luggage. Loved the wool Tartan carpet in hall stairs and landing.
Review 20:room very dated .shower filthy.tea and coffee area on windowsill wasn't what we expected for money paid
Review 21:the location meal and show at the pavilion spa over the road
Review 22:I checked out a t breakfast time and the shortage of staff meant people doubled up roles so I had to go hunting to find someone. It was no problem but just took 10 minutes longer than it should have.
Review 23:Easy to get to great location and friendly people. Arrived at 11:30pm and the called me on route at 11:00pm to ensure everything was going well asn mt arrival time was still on. Brilliant customer care.
Review 24:Main area wireless was good. The upstairs wireless did not work even though they had supplemental assist stations.
Review 25:Very helpful and friendly staff. Simple and nice decor. This is the oldest hotel in town and it has updated simplicity.Economical simple rooms.
Review 26:Hotel room that we had needs renovated i.e.paint job etc and the bathroom needs the same starting with a new shower.
Review 27:The staff were very friendly, food was good
Review 28:Sheets were not the right size for bed, came off. Unable to see tv from the bed area. Difficult to get in and out of bath, no shower curtain, slip hazard with water that splashed out during shower.
Review 29:Room was spacious but very out dated. Lift to the floors great if with suitcases.
Review 30:Very dated. Could not get evening meal after 8pm .One evening was told had to wait over an hour for bar meal as staff serving coach party. Very restricted menu -- especially for vegetarians. No vegetarian substitute for bacon at breakfast
Review 31:Location very convenient. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 32:Bed a little bit hard and feels if the frame was falling to bits. Door lock required repairing.
Review 33:Nice hotel with friendly staff. Decent bar and restaurant area.
Review 34:Very dated needed decorating.unable to open window in room.sash broken .very stuffy.poor shower .no entertainment.uncomfortable noisy sprung mattress.
Review 35:Large room.t.v.worked.Good hospitality on arrival.
Review 36:First room offered had the door of the mouldy shower propped up againstthe outside, with water gushing out of a pipe. Alternative accommodationreluctantly offered and had to change rooms for second night. Roomsbooked several weeks before, but when phoned 3 days before check-in toconfirm, initially told room had been cancelled, then told it hadn'tbeen, and impression given that rooms offered were a last resort.Pillows like bullets. Mean shampoo sachet. Stingy Breakfast finished at9.00 even on weekends. Cold/re-cycled toast, so hard that it wasdifficult to cut. Uht milk in jug on both mornings!!! Kitchen closed at8.00pm. Wi-Fi did not work. Bar like a bus terminal waiting room.
Review 37:Nothing
Review 38:Musty smell on arrival in rooms. Dripping shower in 1 room and broken headboard in the other. We're put in the "cottage" outside the hotel - away from the main building atmosphere.
Review 39:Very run down hotel. Sad decor, poor bar service. Cleaner opened room when we were still in bed. We stayed in 4 hotels in Scotland during this trip and this was the worst by a large margin.
Review 40:Good location in town
Review 41:Free wifi was non-existent in the bedroom. Breakfast was really poor; the food had clearly been made earlier as everything was hard, dry and couldn't be cut.
Review 42:Location.
Review 43:Bedroom too small to be classed as double with cramped en-suite squeezed in. Insufficient staffing to cope with independent guests as well as bus party. Running out of beer and wine selection in bar.
Review 44:Excellent location. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 45:The minimal staff were expected to fill too many roles. The bar ran out of numerous drinks stock....only had one bottle of red! The decor was very tired. The hotel needs ALOT of attention.
Review 46:Not much
Review 47:My Wife's bed had broken springs. The bathroom light did not work and nor did the shaver point The property gave the opinion that it required a lot of tender loving care. The floors creaked and the carpet was worn out linoleum
Review 48:The lift, the service in returning my camera bag which was inadvertently left behind, The draft Cider was excellent
Review 49:It was impossible to find out how to get downstairs from my room. There was no indication that the frosted glass door lead to the stairs. Hotel was very dated. Breakfast at 9am meant they had run out of things. The walls were also thin as the neighbouring room's occupants woke me by just talking. I don't feel it was worth the cost of the deal I had found.
Review 50:The room was spacious and there was a double bed for single occupancy which was a plus.
Review 51:Wifi only near reception/bar. Our room was at the back of a maze of corridors in an annexe.
Review 52:Room was ok and heating was on. Staff hard working and helpful.
Review 53:- Decor was tacky and poor quality. - The food was not edible - to be fair the hotel refunded the charge on this for 2 of us but not the 3rd person. - On our trip this was the most expensive hotel we stayed in and the poorest quality.
Review 54:Heating allowed us to dry out wet clothing
Review 55:We had to book this at short notice and arrived late in the day. We received a very friendly welcome from Mimi at reception. Nothing was too much for her and she was always friendly and great to chat to about the area.
Review 56:Spent the previous night in a Hotel across the road and was utterly disappointed to say the least. Decided to try this place at a much higher price but it was worth every pound. Staff were excellent, extremely helpful and accommodating in every way. The showed us around several rooms inside the beautiful Victorian building till we settled on one. We had an excellent stay with beautiful memories and will definitely go back if ever in Inverness.
Review 57:The staff, beautiful Victorian building and exquisite interior.
Review 58:Guy on reception was also covering bar,( which had 2 coach parties in who were residing) showing us to room,( at back of hotel) and running around trying to find toiletries and towels that were missing from our room. He didn't seem to understand a great deal of what we were asking, which was frustrating! We arrived 10 mins too late for meals and couldn't even get a sandwich!
Review 59:Breakfast was great, staff very attentive during service. Entertainment was good. Room was brilliant size for 3 travel weary bikers
Review 60:The room I had booked which was a four-poster bedroom with a separate twin bedroom doesn't even exist in the hotel and the room we got was miserable.
Review 61:Nothing at all.
Review 62:The breakfast choice could have included more continental choices and the bar menu was uninspiring
Review 63:The bed was comfortable and the room was well equipped
Review 64:Rooms a little dated but clean and spacious. Nothing else to dislike
Review 65:Staff were great and helpful always friendly and always willing to help. I have stayed here before and will be back again. The most beautiful location and stunning surrounding. Love love love it here.
Review 66:You can tell that the hotel caters for bus groups etc, and I would say that although some rooms are being renovated that the bedroom areas are a little tired.
Review 67:Hotel were very accommodating for our group of 10, although the restaurant was closing as we were due to arrive, I phoned ahead and they reserved a table up the road at a lovely restaurant. Good value for money.
Review 68:The barman did not know how to work the bar equipment and the bar closed at 11pm even for residents not normally a problem but we had arrived a few minutes earlier.
Review 69:Value for money comfortable bed.
Review 70:Wifi was ok if you sat close to the reception and hot water didn't make it to our shower.
Review 71:Wonderful location and great customer service. The staff did everything they could to make us feel welcome. And it was great value for money.
Review 72:Wifi was very very poor. I cannot get signal on ground floor in bar, which is next to reception only. In room also wifi was very poor.
Review 73:Room was good, bathroom was bit old needs renew.
Review 74:The hotel is bit old-fashioned. The bedroom was reasonable however it wasn't like the nice modern room in the photos. The sheets were dirty. They had blood stains and yellow marks. The towels had also some small black stains. Although they changed them, still were not perfectly clean. During the checkout, the receptionist called the cleaners and asked them to apologise which was very childish on her behalf. Finally she proposed a £10 compensatrion for a £70/night room - we were not satisfied.
Review 75:Staff was overall polite and helpful. Breakfast was fair for free
Review 76:The hotel has a mixed decor style which we didn't like it - very old fashioned. Bedroom was reasonable but still not sth special for the price we paid. Bath was a slightly small. One pair of towels had some small black stains.
Review 77:Staff was generally friendly Considering the breakfast was included in the price, its quality was fair. The location was nice
Review 78:Bed was awful with feeling of springs poking through. First room offered was affected by paint smell and we had to request a move. Cooked breakfast only OK and on second day facilities were totally overwhelmed by a coach party. And ignore the word Spa - neither a spa in the common sense, nor a source of spa water, can be found.
Review 79:Location good, breakfast buffet good on day 1. Atrium at front of hotel was a nice place to sit.
Review 80:Only one staff member doing bar, reception and waiting on a Saturday night. The hotel is hugely mixed in decor styles - reception very dark and old fashioned, bedrooms are reasonable but again mixed decades between room and bathroom, bar area contempary and modern and the restaurant very traditional. Only sold white wine by the glass and bottle - red wine was bottle only and appeared to only have 2 bottles in stock
Review 81:Setting Double bed in a single Food in bar reasonably priced Staff were friendly
Review 82:The warmth of welcome and the general thoughtfulness of staff -- the receptionist took me up to the room and made sure everything was as it should be.
Review 83:Hotel restaurant dark and uninviting. Some breakfast items clearly reheated and not freshly cooked. Rooms being refurbished and tools, and furniture items spilling out onto corridors. Single thin pillow per person, so not a comfortable sleep. En-suite door didn't fit properly Public areas cluttered with collections of dusty artefacts
Review 84:Location
Review 85:Nothing to do/ eat in Strapheffer after 6pm. Decor poor. Woke up @ 2am with water dripping on my case from upstairs. Poor breakfast.
Review 86:Nothing! Couldn't wait to leave! Refund of £20 for little sleep.
Review 87:Decor/rooms/toilet/shower/cleanlin- ess. The hotelis in poor condition and seems to rely on coach trips.
Review 88:We had many issues with this hotelbut the staff namely Stuart helpedand turned around our stay. All the remaining staff were excellent. The food was also good
Review 89:Room was very dated and could have done with a fresh coat of paint Bar closed at 11pm on a Friday night There didnt seem to be many staff around There was also joiners tools lying in the corridor which is a bit of a hazard with guests moving about
Review 90:The location of the hotel was great. The bar and restaurant were also very nice The bed was clean The room did have it's own bathroom with shower free parking
Review 91:Hotel clearly ran on a budget - only saw one member of staff, who despite being very friendly and helpful, seemed to be running around attending reception, resident queries, changing kegs, attending customers at the bar and serving food. Not very fair and he really needed another pair of hands helping him out. Bed was like a brick and hard to sleep on Chainsaw/wood cutting device left in the middle of one corridor - health and safety hazard. Food was pricey Breakfast times could have been extended for a weekend, served from 7-9 on a weekend morning... I missed breakfast due to sleeping in and had to find alternative arrangements.
Review 92:Great central location to Strathpeffer Pavilion Very friendly and helpful member of staff Good size of room Very quiet location Very tasty food
Review 93:Bit of a strange smell in front part but not overpowering
Review 94:Room was good size and clean. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly
Review 95:No food on arrival (after 8.30pm) noisy radiator in room 40 .ripped/holes in sheets on bed
Review 96:Warm welcome ,friendly staff.great breakfast.unusual decor
Review 97:I was asked what time I would like breakfast, I said 8am, no problem was the reply, I came down at 07:55am only to be queing behind a bus party of around 50, I waited for more than 15 mins for someone to serve me that's after I had to wait 10mins just to get into the breakfast room, ...... I left and went to Tescos for breakfast
Review 98:The food was really good value for money
Review 99:This hotel is not your modern hotel but has history. Its location is beautiful. The staff are customer friendly which in my opinion is a huge asset for both hotel and customers. Food excellent
Review 100:Cheap furniture Dated bathroom Dirty grout A sliding door on the bathroom Cheap doors that sound could easy travel through BUsy bar
Review 101:Courteous staff adequate parking Good location
Review 102:No shower just a bath. The hand held shower only allowed for a dribble ... literally ... of cool water.
Review 103:The staff were lovely, every single one was exceptionally helpful. I smiled the whole time I was there .. even though the place is a bit ramshackle it just made me laugh. Spent the following night in a more 'luxurious' abode but would have swapped it in a moment for this hotel's (for me anyway) smile factor
Review 104:Everything was as we expected of a hotel like this.
Review 105:Friendly staff. Fresh bathroom. Located in centre of town with off street parking. Rooms light and airy and adequate size. This is an old hotel that has seen better days but has not had its day.
Review 106:We booked this hotel as we were attending a friend's wedding close-by and it was ideally situated for the wedding party etc. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel itself is a little quirky (my 7 year old son thought this was great), but clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. We would stay here again.
Review 107:wasps in my room, staff unhelpful had to get another guest to remove them. room overlooked someone' s back yard good view of washing. bathroom filthy. Breakfast porride was cold and portion pathetic. toast burnt. bed hard didnt sleep at all.
Review 108:nothing
Review 109:Tiny room, initially no hot water which the staff fixed, wifi only at reception, leak in the ceiling of the hallway leading to our room so had to step over buckets on the floor and walk on soggy carpet each time we passed.
Review 110:Friendly, helpful staff.
Review 111:2 coach parties in, if you like sleep then this is not the place to go - perhaps a reminder from the hotel to be respectful of the fact there are other guests present would not go unappreciated. A minor incident at the bar which resulted in 2 people being served before us, overpriced and had a ply wood bedroom door; not exactly luxury.
Review 112:Staff were great and breakfast was good quality.
Review 113:Why do so few hotels provide 2 bedside lights? Not being able to have a meal at the restaurant itself
Review 114:Having a bath after a long journey Location was excellent for us but there isn't much to do. Just in time (20:10) for a bar meal
Review 115:Dinner finished serving at 8.00. I just feel it should be 9.00 but not a major issue. It doesn't alter how helpful the receptionist was
Review 116:I agree with the other reviewer that the staff were friendly and helpful. I arrived close to food finishing time but the receptionist put herself out to make the staff aware that I wanted a meal and arranged for me to order my menu choices immediately
Review 117:It must be remembered that the main trade of the hotel is with coach parties so you are likely to be surrounded by elderly fellow guests. This means that the restaurant facilities do not offer much choice apart from the choices of the day.
Review 118:We have been to Strathfeffer before The village is almost a time warp of Victorian touring but our previous visits have been as members of a bus trip. A few years ago the hotel could be described as 'quaint' but with character. It has now been completely refurbished top to bottom. The rooms are far better than they were and things now work. The furnishings in the rooms are new complete with flat screen TVs. There has been a lot of effort and money been invested to make a comfortable stay. With your own transport it is convenient for touring the central and west Highlands.
Review 119:Very friendly helpful staff. Food was lovely and bedrooms very clean .
Review 120:Staff were excellent food was very good room was clean and warm
Review 121:Good food, good room - too short a stay to comment any more. Happy to come back and stay again.
Review 122:nice room with very comfy bed .good food and very nice staff.
Review 123:Very comfortable. Good breakfast. Attentive and helpful staff.
Review 124:The ambience and decor of the hotel were excellent.
Review 125:Service was slow in dining rooms
Review 126:Beautiful town
Review 127:Friendly and helpful staff
Review 128:Bed was so uncomfortable not enough pillows shower was unclean
Review 129:Staff were very helpful nice place to stay in General.
Review 130:Bedinen dated, walls paper thin, breakfast stopped at 9am on a Sunday
Review 131:The locals at the pub across the road were awesome . Very friendly staff . I was late to breakfast but they still cooked me a feed
Review 132:Only 1 towel between 2 Bar Meal overpriced and given that frozen fish used
Review 133:It's a bit dated and need a refresh.
Review 134:The position of the Hotel, and the Old building.
