Reviews for Cromwell's Inn
Review 1:No parking. Very limited choice at breakfast for veggies. Limited cereal. No fruit. Poor toast. Cold dining room.
Review 2:Warm room. Hot water. Comfortable. Excellent location.
Review 3:Unfortunately there was no on site parking. The nearest public car park was a fair walk, particularly coming back to the Inn, as it was uphill. It cost £22 for 2 days. Also the bed wasn't very comfortable. However it wouldn't stop me staying again.
Review 4:The staff were most welcoming and the location couldn't have been better. The breakfast was freshly cooked and most enjoyable.
Review 5:Nothing!!!
Review 6:Excellent we checked it at 1600hrs. I booked my Christmas party in the restaurant we had a great evening. Staff were wonderful all night!! Then we awoke after a great nights sleep to go down to an amazingly by cocked breakfast which was not fried & perfectly delicious!! So a great place with value for money. Thanks Scott Jones.
Review 7:The bar downstairs was very noisy, we should have been told about it beforehand
Review 8:Friendliest, most welcoming staff I think I've ever met! Easiest and most pleasant check in ever.
Review 9:It didn't bother us at all, but the hotel is on a busy-ish road. Nothing terrible but may be an issue for some in the mornings.
Review 10:Very welcoming, friendly staff. Had a meal in the bar one night which was very good 'pub grub'. Didn't try the restaurant but will do next time. Had the deluxe room with four poster bed which was great. Enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 11:The tiniest thing was that we couldn't adjust the heating in the room which was incredibly warm so we opened the window but that's not v cost effective for them.
Review 12:The staff are really friendly and smiley! Lovely breakfast too. Great value for money.
Review 13:The friendliness and helpfulness of all staff concerned together with the relaxed atmosphere. Very welcoming and perfect for our short stay whilst visiting the Severn Theatre to watch our daughter in this year's Panto! !
Review 14:Accessing the en suite shower was a challenge with the wash hand basin allowing only a narrow gap to squeeze passed. If I'd been particularly stout, I wouldn't have made it! Dinner service in the evening was particularly slow. I had to ask bar staff when the meal would be served
Review 15:Well located though fairly noisy in the front bedrooms - I expected this. The staff were friendly, relaxed but attentive Breakfast well served in the morning
Review 16:Nothing
Review 17:The Cromwell has always been one of my favourites places to visit in Shrewsbury. The staff are so friendly and couldn't do enough. The outdoor terrace is a great place to relax summer or winter. This is the first time I've stayed on a b&b basis and its certainly good value for money. Can't wait to return.
Review 18:The nice warm bathroom and bedroom. The large four-poster bed. The view was good. Brewing up facilities. Breakfast was great. Mine host was a character.
Review 19:Way too hot melted through the night and at breakfast no need for heating to be on all the time, quite a wait to be served breakfast but was nice .
Review 20:The location
Review 21:No parking and no bath, but car park 5 minute walk away and costs £7.00 for 24 hours....
Review 22:Central location, nice comfy bed, lovely food and friendly staff. Good value for money.....
Review 23:The staff at Cromwells were lovely. We got the impression that nothing was too much trouble. Our room was well-furnished, with a huge comfy bed. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend Cromwells to others.
Review 24:The room was hot, in November & the staff weren't interested. The traffic noise was incessant due to the one way system. Also a lot of customer noise smoking outside the front door.
Review 25:Good location
Review 26:The dinner arrangements were somewhat vague. There is a speciality bar food item on a chalk board in the bar but I never worked out if there were any other options. Fortunately I fancied the chalk board option anyway. Their website could usefully give advice on car parking options - there is none available at the inn
Review 27:Obviously the cost. If you're looking for 5 star facilities you won't find it here. But you will find a comfortable bed, friendly staff and a well stocked bar!
Review 28:Loud music on Tuesday right until 11.00ish, room was very warm but Windows opened on to beer garden where there was some people smoking and wearing
Review 29:Location
Review 30:The room was a bit smaller than we thought from the pictures.
Review 31:The location was excellent and staff are very warm and friendly. The bed was very comfy so alround value for money.
Review 32:Bit noisey from the bar area could hear everything from your room
Review 33:Bar stafff could not do enough for you very welcoming and the building was nice with the room being all crooked made a really good change
Review 34:A very warm hotel, room directly over the bar so room was noisy till gone midnight when bar closed
Review 35:A lovely property close to the centre of Shrewsbury, staff were excellent. A very nice room if a little on the small side
Review 36:I loved every moment of my stay and will certainly return. The staff were lovely and very helpful and my room could not be faulted. I even booked my parents in as a golden wedding present and they loved it too
Review 37:no car parking , although a ncp car park just around the corner, & wasn't dear.
Review 38:The staff were very helpful & friendly, hotel situated in a good location, nice breakfast & evening meals
Review 39:the room was right on the road and despite attempts to sound proof the windows with secondary glazing we were woken up at 5 am with traffic noise. The room was hot and we had to open the windows to get some air...that's why it was so noisy. Probably OK in the Winter.
Review 40:Cooked breakfast. Though there was no marmalade portions, only strawberry jam.
Review 41:The room was very tired and the bathroom wasn't as clean as it should be. Tiles and shower door not the cleanest.
Review 42:The location was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful
Review 43:Breakfast was not so good. The absence of parking was not a concern for us.
Review 44:We came to share the enthusiasm of the owner and staff for this 500 year old inn and its character The staff were very attentive to our needs, especially in the dining and bar areas. The meals were especially good.
Review 45:The bathroom door would not shut properly and the floor was stained all around the edges. I was very disappointed by this as surely shutting the bathroom door should be considered a priority at this price. The kettle had to be stood on the floor to be plugged in as it was the only available socket!! This I considered dangerous. On a lighter note The bed slopped slightly downwards so my feet where higher than my head (this may not be noticed by many people but I am sensitive to this ) we simply slept the other way around. The staff kindly supplied a fan so we did not need to open the window but the plug sockets near the bed where three pin and so we had to plug it in across the room which made it pretty useless. Sad as these things would not take much to rectify.
Review 46:The location was good and staff where friendly and helpful. The food was lovely but the room was not so good, despite being a superior room with a four poster bed, and fruit at breakfast was very past its best.
Review 47:small room, noisy traffic early morning, room not cleaned daily had to ask for clean towels and tea, coffee etc no parking
Review 48:friendly staff, good location
Review 49:Being somewhat ancient, rooms are small and low, but well set up for the space they have. It was OK for me, being rather low myself, but if you're over 5'6", you might need to let them know.
Review 50:It was very historical, staff were helpful, and it was easy to get around from. Shrewsbury is a really interesting town.
Review 51:our room was superb we came to shrewsbury because i have traced my family living there in 1800 the lady who served us breakfast was very helpful to us with drections and places to go this was very helpful to us thank you for a wonderful stay
Review 52:You had to park down the road in a overnight car park. Pillows were not overly comfortable.
Review 53:The Central Location was excellent. The Four poster superior room was really lovely and staff very friendly. Breakfast was good too.
Review 54:Depending on approach some may find the walk on the steep side.
Review 55:Ideally located in the centre of town, close to all amenities. The staff were very friendly and helpful and a great cooked breakfast
Review 56:The lack of parking area. It cost £7.20 a day to park the car. Breakfast finished too early. On holiday people like a lie-in.
Review 57:Very good value for money. Room warm. Bed comfortable. Staff polite and helpful.
Review 58:The loud traffic through the night, culminating in bin lorries emptying bottles directly outside the window before six am! Then shortly after, another bin lorry. The no choice of anything other than boxed cereal at breakfast. Just a piece of fruit would have been welcome. No choice of toast, only white buppy toast given. No water, except this was brought as soon as asked for, thank you. Only one cup of quite nice coffee, no refills offered.
Review 59:The booking in and bar staff, the central location, the bar, the music and choice of dining packages.
Review 60:Nothing.
Review 61:Had room 1 with a very comfortable four poster bed. It was very quiet once the bar closed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good, we also had our evening meal there which was ok. The Cromwell is in the centre of Shrewsbury and convenient for everything. We would stay their again.
Review 62:There was a bit of noise in the evening from the bar below, but to be honest, we expected that and it added to the fun of staying in the middle of town for us country folk!
Review 63:The staff here were exceptionally friendly and helpful, particularly Daniel, who was very kind, good humoured and went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The Cromwell has a great atmosphere and is in an ideal location for exploring central Shrewsbury. The rooms were simply but tastefully decorated with wonderful power showers in the ensuites. We also had a delicious meal there on our first evening. All in all, we were very glad that we chose the Cromwell, as it made our stay in Shrewsbury very special and memorable.
Review 64:They just need to check the cleaning as we noticed cobwebs behind the washbasin pedestal and dust on the top front inside of the canopy over the bed.
Review 65:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and the room comfortable.
Review 66:We struggled with the road noise through the night even with windows all shut. With city centre locations, this can be difficult to avoid.
Review 67:Good central location. The staff were friendly . The room was of a good standard and very comfortable.
Review 68:Obviously a noisy location. Music licence extended at weekend.
Review 69:Great period pub. Friendly staff, very clean and popular location. Service exceptional.
Review 70:It is possible to drop off luggage but you have to park ( and pay for it) about 5m down the road. But then you have to accept this in an old town centre.
Review 71:Thurs night fish and chips deal... Excellent value for money.
Review 72:essentially a pub with a few converted bedrooms upstairs, rather cramped and basic though everything else in town centre were either sold out or cost a lot more
Review 73:well located, practically in town centre
Review 74:Nothing to fault.
Review 75:Extremely friendly and helpful staff made this stay a pleasure. The food service and relaxed atmosphere made this an excellent place to stay. I would highly recommend the Cromwell to anyone wishing to stay in Shrewsbury.
Review 76:Was noisy in the early morning, when the bin lorry collected the empty bottles. Room on the small side, but nevertheless had all the amenities.
Review 77:Friendliness of all the staff. There wasn't one member of staff who wasn't friendly and cheerful. Good location with regard to the shops and restaurants in Shrewsbury town. Lively but relaxing atmosphere in the evening
Review 78:The hotel is on a busy main street so there was some traffic noise, but if guests can sleep with the windows closed (secondary glazing) it will not be much of a problem (we can't). Everything else was absolutely fine.
Review 79:Good facilities, and a perfect place close to the centre of Shrewsbury to go exploring/shopping.
Review 80:The room I had was at the front of the building and, even with the window closed was noisy - especially in the morning. However, this is in the heart of the town, so hard to avoid. I was out until the early hours so I had no issues with noise from the bar.
Review 81:A great location with very helpful and happy staff. The overall look and feel is that of an old meets new wine bar/inn. The bar area, especially outside, is very good and there is a great selection of wines, beers and real ales on offer. Comfortable rooms and good value for Shewsbury. Would recommend. As an additional note, there is no parking, but there is a cheap NPC car park 2 mins walk from the Inn.
Review 82:Shower needed attention. shaver light didn't work. Our room was not for light sleepers as there was bar noise and lively balcony noise.
Review 83:Superb comfy six foot four poster bed, friendly staff.
Review 84:Occasionally the music from the bar was too repetitive as it traveled through the floor into our room.
Review 85:Friendly staff, beautiful four-poster bed, room overlooking the patio with rooftop views
Review 86:This is an old quirky pub with tastefully decorated and well presented rooms keeping in theme with the age of the building. Outside is a beautiful terraced beer garden / extension to the restaurant and we ate there each night. The food is very good and well presented and the staff are attentive and welcoming but not intrusive. We were very happy with our stay here and would recommend it highly to others who want history and tradition as opposed to corporate. Parking is not available (drop off is) but there is a secure car park about a three minute walk away.We would definitely stay there again if we return to Shrewsbury.
Review 87:Friendly staff, excellent location in the centre of town within walking distance of most of Shrewsbury's attractions. The bedroom was small but comfortable. Only drawback was the noise from the street, which carried a lot of traffic. Good breakfast.
Review 88:Quite noisey, a lot of door slamming through the night and early morning traffic. Bed wasn't very comfortable.
Review 89:Fantastic location, lovely staff, great pub, breakfast to die for.
Review 90:Staff were very attentive and friendly. Room was very fitting for the age of the property. Candle lit bar at night added to the experience. A little tired in some areas but the over all stay was very pleasing
Review 91:Parking is approx 500 yards down an hill and costs 7.20 overnight. If you smoke this would be ideal for those that do. We had a room and the people smoked at lot just outside our bedroom window, which was open do to no air con. Also very noisy upto 23.00 each night. The rooms are small and basic.
Review 92:The Inn has much history and well placed in the city,
Review 93:Our room was over the bar which was very noisy until quite late at night. This didn't worry us as we were so tired after all the walking we slept through it anyway. But this could be an issue for some guests.
Review 94:Location was great, staff friendly, great food.
Review 95:My initial request for a king-sized bed was not honoured although we hadbooked one. We were told on arrival that there was not one available.Next morning we discovered that there had been one ( possibly two owingto a cancellation). We had a very uncomfortable night. We received aprofuse apology and a slight reduction in the price. Not good! Noisefrom the bar also disturbed sleep.
Review 96:Warm welcome and good location
Review 97:Couldn't get the TV to work, as only staying one night, I didn't bother. Had I been staying longer I would have. Towels in bathroom not big enough in terms of drying after a shower, more like hand towel size. Kettle placed on sideboard with all the tea, coffe etc but no plug within two meters to plug it in.
Review 98:Staff were attentive and friendly. Everything was explained to us with regards to any possible evacuation to breakfast times.
Review 99:Parking, but that is not the hotels fault.
Review 100:Staff were marvelous, room small but very nice, shower fabulous, real ale and a great beer garden, full English breakfast wonderful.
Review 101:Don't go to bed before midnight on saturday because the rooms are just above the bar and it is extremely noisy music and voices.
Review 102:Staff and breakfast
Review 103:Over all it's a nice little hotel. I am a super picky person and for a £90 room I don't expect a plug hole full of hair and hair in the corners of the bathroom. Hair on the sofa and on the cushions the smell of cooking from the bar snacks is constant and the room was noisy from the road outside. The breakfast was terrible probably the worse I've had anywhere. This could be such a great place with just a bit more attention to detail.
Review 104:I had the best room in the house with a huge four poster bed with nice bedding. The bar has a nice atmosphere and the serving staff were friendly and nothing too much trouble.
Review 105:Though the cooked breakfast was fine, everything else about Cromwell's breakfast offering was dire -- bitter sludgy coffee, no fruit, no yogurt, boring packet cereals. It would be so easy to offer a little fruit, some yogurts, a decent muesli -- and anyone can put a reasonably good ground coffee into a cafetière. A lovely place marred by lack of attention to an easily rectified detail.
Review 106:A perfect base for exploring the country round Shrewsbury -- easy walk to station, and close to all city centre restaurants. Comfortable room, excellent shower and wifi.
Review 107:No parking cost 7.50 to park a five minute walk away. You could hear outside traffic and noise as by a busy road.
Review 108:Breakfast was fantastic, and the staff were friendly. Location was near the town centre.
Review 109:We should have booked a table for evening meal and the terrace was so lovely we couldn't get near it!
Review 110:Excellent friendly staff, wonderful pub with real ale and a sun-trap terrace. Our room boasted a four-poster bed and even though it faced on to a busy street, thanks to the secondary glazing, it was surprisingly quiet.
Review 111:noise from music in wine bar from opening to closing.slamming doors, everyone at the hotel, guests and staff, seemed to slam doors at all times of day and night.door to first floor garden terrace constantly slamming as guests came and went.just a shame the noise marred our stay which was otherwise pleasant.
Review 112:staff,food,room,location
Review 113:Great valur for money, room was lovely, bed very comfortable, breakfast was lovely, easy walk to 24hr carpark only £7.20 for 24hrs. Central to explore the the lovely town, will definatly return
Review 114:The music in the bar resounded into the bedrooms from early into the end of the evenings.
Review 115:the staff were all cheerful and helpful. A busy popular place which was very convenient for a weekend in Shrewsbury.
Review 116:It can be a bit noisy if your room is over the bar - as ours was! But hey there was no all night rave
Review 117:The staff are so nice. The rooms are wonderfully clean. Location terrific
Review 118:Very small room at the front of the building very very noisy all night long and especially from 5am onwards. Nowhere to put any of your belongings.
Review 119:Location, great staff, lovely beer garden and bar and breakfast very nice and served by friendly staff
Review 120:By reading other reviews, we knew the room would be over a noisy pub, but wouldn't bother us for the one night we were staying. Walking up from the car park with the luggage was a bit more trying than I had planned for.
Review 121:Loved the central location in historic area.
Review 122:The usual Shrewsbury non-breathing mattress cover causing overheating. Need a new dishwasher (cutlery not clean)
Review 123:Historic building. Great shower. Best breakfast coffee. Got my tomatoes right 1st time.
Review 124:A pleasant one night stay in comfortable surroundings in pretty location .The breakfast was very good and staff very helpfull.Would definately stay again.
Review 125:No hot water for shower and shave on Tuesday 14th April. Also not warned before hand of scaffolding going up at front of hotel, outside bedroom windows. Also workmen making avoidable noise during night on landing and banging doors late into night and early morning. I appreciate work has to be done but could have been done with little more consideration.
Review 126:Very noisy pub, on main road, early morning deliveries & constant decorations going on especially to outside; couldn't open curtains as painters there most of the time.....
Review 127:Staff & breakfasts
Review 128:Nothing; everything was good.
Review 129:Central location. Friendly staff, really helpful and welcoming. Food was good and the bar had a nice atmosphere, as well as good beer.
Review 130:building work going on but it has to be done sometime!!
Review 131:Central location close to everything in Shrewsbury. Four poster bed in room with uneven floors. Interesting use of wedges to level the furniture.
Review 132:On a busy side road, traffic quite noisy, unfortunately they had workmen in whilst we stayed, as our room was over the front entrance it was noisy quite early as the deliveries of materials and tools were made
Review 133:Good location - central to shops etc., and a hotel with character - very friendly staff - fabulous breakfast - very good value for money
Review 134:you just need to take into account this is a pub, so some nights can be late before music and noise disperses and then staff are back in at 6.30am with bottles being clashed around, preparing for breakfast etc.
Review 135:really lovely pub, great freindly staff, excellent location, good variety of beers, wines, cocktails and spirits will suit all tastes.
Review 136:The staff are lovely and attentive. The food was great considering how reasonable the price was. The terrace is a wonderful bonus for a town centre hotel, catching the evening sun.
Review 137:It was expensive for what we got. The room was really small. It needs more plug sockets. Couldn't go to the bar cause it was too small and no where to sit so had to go back to room.
Review 138:I liked the four poster bed and it is right in the heart of town. Shower was the best i have had.
The Fine Print
