Reviews for The White Swan Inn

Review 1:Nothing!

Review 2:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel had a lovely and comfortable feel, loved the open fires, our room was quaint and decorated to a high spec, we loved the Hunters Lodge to unwind in, dinner and breakfast were great,Pickering village is very pretty and we stayed here as we went on the North Yorkshire Moors railway for dinner which was wonderful

Review 3:We were told we had been given a free upgrade but the retreat apartment we got didn't feel like an upgrade. It was on 2 floors with the bathroom downstairs. Not en suite. The door to the bathroom had to be shoved to be opened as it dragged on the floor tiles. We did tell the hotel on our departure as we thought it wasn't something they could fix in the short time we were there. They said they would fix it but it looked like it had been like that a while. The rooms are not part of the main building and is a short walk over soft gravel to get to the restaurant/bar.

Review 4:Friendly accommodating staff. Homely bar area worth open fires made for a cosy relaxed drink.

Review 5:Bedbugs in the room, crawling all over the sheets and pillows. Nice surprise for our afternoon nap! We moved room and this was far too hot as Windows couldn't open, we had to have a fan on all night in mid October. Go figure. Next door also complained of the heat. The staff did everything to ensure we had a good time but it was ruined by the bugs. Luckily we weren't bitten, and haven't found any at home since. They were freshly hatched bugs and the hotel did bring in pest control in the morning.

Review 6:The food was lovely, and the staff very attentive. We stayed on their dining package which seemed reasonable value for money, but could have been done cheaper if you chose different menu options when dining.

Review 7:The service at breakfast was VERY slow although the food was very good when it eventually arrived. Forgotten requests at dinner but nothing to really moan about. There was a skin rug throw on a settee in the Bothy which left me ( and others) covered in hair. NOT great when going to dinner after! The ambience would have been greatly enhanced with background music which was absent in all the public rooms. A real shame but others have mentioned it so maybe there is a problem providing music? Having said all that we look forward to staying again in the future.

Review 8:Perfect location for visiting area. Staff were friendly and helpful and always happy to try and accommodate requests. The Bothy with honesty bar is a fabulous idea - somewhere to relax and have a drink/ read in lovely surroundings away from the main hotel. Bedroom 6 is spacious and interesting!

Review 9:The staff were very helpful and the food was excellent. I am suffering from terminal lung cancer and they couldn't do enough for me and my husband. I felt that if I had a problem at all it would have been dealt with in a competent manner.

Review 10:At breakfast there was a group of loud pompous men who seemed to think they were the only ones. Not the hotel's fault though!. Breakfast was great, however I thought the dinner menu thought of it self as rather special and therefore over the top. It was not really my type of food so ate out most of the time.

Review 11:Enjoyed the location and the friendliness of the staff. My room was excellent. It was away from the main building so was nice and quiet so was able to relax.

Review 12:Internet not working properly and a bit expensive if you have to pay full rate.

Review 13:Traditional feel and welcoming staff, cosy bar with real ale, locally sourced food and a traditionally cooked breakfast with real fruit juice. Room was comfortable, modern and clean. Nice location in quiet town centre, with quiet surrounding country roads so enjoyed an evening run.

Review 14:Found the room was very warm, eventually found the switch for the towel rail and turned it off. Then the room was more comfortable.

Review 15:All the staff including the cleaners were very friendly and helpful.

Review 16:Steep steps at rear. A little noisey revelers! late evening. Creaking floor boards

Review 17:Excellent breakfast choice with excellent service.Reception was also excellent and very helpful

Review 18:Breakfast was poor waited 20 mins or so too order then another 25 minutes too be cooked vas very disappointed ..scrambled egg very runner not cooked enough like baby food!!!

Review 19:great location in heart of Pickering, good car parking ,excellent accommodation and first class breakfast we also dined in the restaurant both nights food was superb with nice vegetarian options as well

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:Charming hotel with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. A number of thoughtful features (like availability of fresh milk for making tea in bedroom).

Review 22:Dining room staff(not the kitchen ) were very slow, they also charged someone else's meal to our room.we had to ask for someone to take our breakfast order.would have had more drinks than we did if prices were more reasonable.

Review 23:Beautiful room with excellent facilities in an ideal situation with parking.

Review 24:Price of drinks compared to other places in town. £15 fior two glasses of wine is a bit excessive Service in restaurant for evening dinner was quite slow

Review 25:Location very convenient Staff very friendly and helpful Very good breakfast with plenty of choice

Review 26:The only thing we didn't like was the fact it was a dog friendly hotel. We didn't check this before we booked.

Review 27:It was an excellent base. Staff were very helpful and the hotel was very comfortable. I would definitely recommend the hotel and the area.

Review 28:The. £12.50 a night for our small dog was a bit much I feel

Review 29:I liked the room we stayed in very much and the use of the bothy was marvellous. As there was six of us this made the stay perfect

Review 30:Noise from room above, cold stone floor and need curtains at windows as blinds don't reach the edge of windows. All small things, that didn't spoil the holiday, but would improve the feel of the room.

Review 31:Loved the location and food

Review 32:No bad experience

Review 33:The little extras such as special breads and home-made chocolates. The willing accommodation to our unforeseen need for an early meal.

Review 34:Very pricey for what you get. At £145 a night for superior room I would expect to have full range of TV including Sky. Breakfast was not up to scratch with 15 minute delay on serving as chef could not be found on day one and on day two order for poached egg resulted in delivery of fried egg. Not worth making complaint though.

Review 35:Friendly staff, good accommodation, well appointed

Review 36:NOTHING TO DISLIKE.

Review 37:The central location and yet it was peaceful. We stayed in the barn conversion at the rear of the hotel. One of the best places we have stayed in.

Review 38:Nothing not to like in my opinion.

Review 39:Friendly staff. Spacious pet friendly room with lovely bathroom. Excellent food eaten at a table in the bar so dog could be with us.

Review 40:Disappointed to have a shared entrance to room. Bare stone floors and no slippers!! Poor lighting in room. No information booklet/leaflets about the hotel, equipment or area facilities.

Review 41:Staff very friendly Room clean Bothy very good

Review 42:Staff all so very friendly always greeted with a smiley face!! Hotel full of charm yet quierky!! loved the snug with log fire after coming in from the rain very cosy!!

Review 43:Location was excellent. Also really enjoyed the breakfasts. Relaxing sitting room and loved the good choice of beers, Timothy Taylors Landlord and Black Sheep.

Review 44:There was nothing to dislike about the White Swan

Review 45:The staff can't do enough for you, the food is superb and the rooms are lovely, right in the middle of Pickering. Who could ask for more?

Review 46:Our room and bed were very comfortable . The water was piping hot. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast absolutely delicious. We loved sitting by the fire in the cosy snug bar.

Review 47:Very friendly and helpful staff, fantastic quality food in restaurant for both dinner & breakfast, very good real ale in the bar with few nice pubs nearby.

Review 48:Very slow service in the restaurant inspite of us being the only 2 there for an hour before other guests arrived

Review 49:The fabulous bed, we slept really well Lovely pillows deep and squashy.

Review 50:Nothing comes to mind.

Review 51:We only stayed 2 nights but the whole experience of the hotel was wonderful especially the friendly and helpful staff and the great food. We will most certainly stay again.

Review 52:The snug was out of bounds because of a private party and the bar was full because its very small so we had nowhere to have a drink before and after our meal. Also our room over looked the bar next door which was really noisy until early morning.

Review 53:The character of the hotel.

Review 54:The flies in the bar area where we had lunch, and I felt that the price for bed and breakfast was on the high side for the overall experience of staying here.

Review 55:Very comfortable bed and excellent breakfast, and the on-site parking.

Review 56:Noisy drinkers from wine bar next door kept us, and our friends in another, room awake. Room quite small and bland decoration and furnishings. Bathroom odd shape and quite small. Breakfast ok, but personally found the sausage quite strong tasting, but they are good quality.

Review 57:Location - close to pickering's steam train and surrounding countryside

Review 58:One night out of two there was party noise from The Bothy at 2.00am. TV set up and digi-box too complicated. TV remote sound buttons not working.

Review 59:The Staff, The Location, The Room

Review 60:I felt it was a little tired in areas. We had 2 rooms ... Mum s room had no remote for the tv ... Mum being quite small could not reach the buttons on top to use the tv. Staff were very nice but unable to provide a remote ... Think personally it's over priced ... Restaurant was ok ... My risotto was not the best I have had and left over half of it . No comment was made to me ... So think I would stay somewhere else if I needed to be in Pickering.

Review 61:Staff - friendly , position in Pickering . Good parking.

Review 62:rooms were excellent and the food in the restaurant was of very high standard as was the service we would most definately try and stay there again thank you Peter and Carys

Review 63:The room was ok nothing special for the price and no air con only a window that offered no privacy at all as people walked past constantly. Cooked breakfast was very poor indeed very small, no beans or fried slice, one rasher of bacon although quite thick and sausage wasn't good also cold toast. When your paying circa 140 a night you expect a bit more and in my experience usually get it. Dinner menu wasn't the most appealing so we ate out both nights and then found out that there was a festival on that night for 60's themes which would have been nice to have been made aware of as we would have avoided it. Ambulances, police smashed windows NICE!
