Reviews for Octonlodge
Review 1:Nothing not to like.
Review 2:The four poster bed was SO comfortable. The suite spacious. It was lovely and quiet. The breakfast delicious and very generous. Our hosts were charming.
Review 3:I was greeted with a very warm welcome and my accommodation was very clean and comfortable. I will definitely be back when I am in the area and have already recommended it to friends.
Review 4:a little far from town for those without their own transport. Bus services do run until around 6pm and taxis cost approximately £7
Review 5:Cooked breakfast was provided free, and we were given a free upgrade to a room with a 4 poster bed
Review 6:Only thing that could have been more helpful would be internet in the room, when staying for work purposes.
Review 7:Lovely room, great bed, very good breakfast
Review 8:The path outside was a bit slippy, but the owner was very aware of this and was looking to address it.
Review 9:The owners were very friendly and the breakfast both days was really good and there was lots of choice. The room itself was fantastic, very roomy with antique furniture that really gave the room a special feel.
Review 10:Externally the room looked more like a poorly disguised portacabin. That said, inside it was very comfortable and well appointed. Anyway who goes to look at the outside! Bread (Toast) at breakfast was not the greatest, more like tasteless cardboard.
Review 11:Comfort, and quietude. Wonderful cooked breakfast. Great hosts, would recommend this to anyone who wanted an away from it all break.
Review 12:quite warm as heating was constantly on however not a major issue
Review 13:really liked that our room was secluded in the farmhouse, gave enough space yet we still felt like we could go to the main house for anything
Review 14:The "room" was a self contained unit set in a beautiful garden. The hosts were welcoming and the breakfast delicious. Totally enjoyed our stay here.
Review 15:The room was quite dark as we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. The bed creaked loudly at the slightest movement and the four poster looked out of place in a converted stable block. It was a bit overpriced compared to other B&Bs we had stayed in over the same weekend.
Review 16:Lovely hosts and warm welcome. The breakfast was great!
Review 17:A work couple of lights that didn't
Review 18:A lovely change from "chain" hotels. A large room with comfortable furniture and a romantic four poster bed ! A full English breakfast each morning set the day up well
Review 19:The need to find a place to eat in the evening. That said Taunton has some good places to eat and is only about 8 minutes away.
Review 20:Excellent value for money. Room (suite) was charismatic and totally in keeping. The breakfast, in particular, was one of the best I have had anywhere.
Review 21:Strong smell of damp. Water pressure weak. No tea bags. Attention to detail needed on some DIY finishes.
Review 22:The bed and duvet. Beautiful house although we were in the annexe. Would have been nice to have experienced more of the house. Very nice hosts. Fabulous breakfast and breakfast room.
Review 23:Having to knock on the door of main building to be let in for breakfast. There was no breakfast menu (?)
Review 24:Location/Setting, owner charming and helpful. Beautiful old character building.
Review 25:Unfortunately we had to return home after two days for medical reasons. We were quite sad but no fault of anyone else.
Review 26:The quaintness of the place and the olde-worlde rooms which were very comfortable and clean. Bathroom facilities excellent.
Review 27:Very run down old property being refurbed to a poor basic standard. Overall dank aroma. Many faults with fittings: paintwork to entrance door in need of renewal, knobs on writing desk missing, No bulbs in vanity mirror light and shaving light, bathroom blind in-op in front of clear glass window, light pull behind door, fringe of settee hanging on to floor, very limited basic and damp hanging facility. Garden very weedy. Great site with so much potential, being developed amatuerishly to a poor standard. Nothing like shown on the web site and cannot understand some gtlowing reports; we stayed one night, left without taking breakfast and cut short our stay, without a refund.
Review 28:The bed
Review 29:Only stayed the one night
Review 30:I booked this for a couple for their wedding night, from accomadation to service I can't rate it highly enough,11 out of 10
Review 31:Fabulous location with a lovely garden. Excellent room in the old stables with a comfortable 4 poster bed. Great place to stay and a tasty breakfast with scrambled eggs just hoe I make them.
Review 32:The only drawback was the water system which evidently was located in my room but serviced another room.
Review 33:The friendly atmosphere and central location, very close to the city centre, but away from main roads and with secure parking.
Review 34:The photo suggested much more of a luxurious room than the reality was. Plywood bedside table/shelf, boarded up under sink cupboard. It was ok, but the four poster in photo suggested a level of luxury that wasn't there.
Review 35:The lady running the place was delightful. Friendly, helpful and kind
Review 36:One of the rooms had a particularly annoying door lock that kept jamming. Another room had the entire hot water system in the bedroom which was noisy. Local aircraft flight path brings them very low overhead on occasion.
Review 37:Spacious rooms for cost, all with en-suite bath/shower rooms, off-road parking, and a spaniel named Cookie.
Review 38:We locked our room one evening, leaving our laptop on the side table - powered down and lid closed. Upon our return, the laptop was powered up, with the lid open. A taxi is required if you are heading into town: too far to walk.
Review 39:Excellent full English breakfast. Nicely renovated, spacious rooms. Good shower, by English standards.
Review 40:The staff and management were great , very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. we would have loved to stay for the whole week many thanks
Review 41:Bed was a bit too soft and noisy, perhaps old No toilet roll holder If you wish to sit outside the room or in the back garden one can hear some highway noise, but very quiet in the room.
Review 42:Easy to find and park Breakfast warm and friendly Good quiet country location with garden backing onto wheat field and small garden bench Short drive to local bars and restaurants Easy access to main highway and other roads Tea and coffee facilities, TV works Wifi was average but usable Private entrance, small garden table and chairs outside room
Review 43:That we couldn't access the free wi fi in our room!
Review 44:We had a beautiful room which was of the highest standard of cleanliness and all the facilities needed for a really comfortable stay. Loved that the room had its own private access through the French doors and the patio table & chair provided was lovely too. Only downside was that even though free wi fi was provided, we couldn't access this from our room, but were told that apparently the signal is excellent in the main building.
Review 45:Where do I start? A warm welcome from the owners was much appreciated after a long drive. My room was gorgeous! It had a four poster bed, sofa, en suite bathroom - a real treat. The breakfast was the best I've ever had and plenty of it too. I wholeheartedly recommend a stay here if you can.
Review 46:Nothing to complain about.
Review 47:Quiet place, very good size rooms with good separation and much privacy with a table to sit outside my room in the good weather. Home cooked breakfast to order. Lack of intrusion.
Review 48:Friendly owners, and Cookie the dog (lovely chap), double room with four poster bed, adjoining the garden, ensuite bathroom, very comfortable stay indeed. Great breakfast.
Review 49:The rooms are large and well appointed. The welcome is always warm. The gardens are well kept. The property is being continually maintained and where required modernised.
Review 50:Nothing really but if I was to think about what could be improved it would be: Grounds need work and in some places looked overgrown (they did explain work was in progress) Door/windows quite poor and would imagine very drafty in winter. Not a problem for our stay though. Would suggest getting some blinds for laundry room, it does spoil the view a bit when walking to and from the room.
Review 51:Great location Lovely owners Great room with garden views Loved the character of the barn Scrumptious breakfast cooked to order Peaceful and private Good value for money Felt very welcome
Review 52:The view could have been as there site, due to winter weeds that wereunaddressed garden and a shanty half built out house. A noisy watercylinder and storage tank that kept filling up due to usage, which needsaddressing. The rugs didn't fit the spaces so the corners were triphazards. A extension lead for power. Blown speakers on the tv. Having towalk around the bed in the dark to turn the lights on as the switch wasthe wrong side of the room. The toilet cistern dripping for about 10minutes after filling up. Hot water was intermittent during shower.Fresh sheet but not the duvet cover or pillow cases that should also bewhite not beige. Then to top it all a minimalist communicating family atbreakfast and a hair in my breakfast bowl, probably from the dog in thekitchen, that was barkingThe most noisy ext uncomfortable bed ever.
Review 53:Layout of room
Review 54:No vegetarian sausages for breakfast, but what I had was very nice.
Review 55:Amazing property, and surprisingly close to the M5, you would never know! For similar money to a chain hotel I got a four poster bed, a small lounge area and a lovely big ensuite! Very happy.
Review 56:The bedroom was chilly; I wouldn't get any heating to work except in the bathroom which was lovely and toasty..shame as everything else was really good. The breakfast was a bit overcooked. The staff were really pleasant and laid back.
Review 57:The decor in the accommodation and the lovely views outside. The bed was very comfortable.
Review 58:Not meeting the host and hostess. It would of been polite if they introduced themselves at least once. Instead it was left to their son who did as well as he could! Having to wait at the front door to be let in for breakfast! Water for bath not hot enough.
Review 59:The surrounding outlook.
Review 60:The room itself was great, quite spacious and with immediate access to the garden and outside seating. We were welcomed by Joe, who made our stay a real pleasure with his good - natured chat.☺ We also loved the bathroom with natural materials. The breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast itself fabulous, all cooked to order.
Review 61:Only slight grumble was trying to find the driveway entrance
Review 62:Quiet, nice room, excellent bath, very comfy bed. After 9 hours driving this was the ideal place to end up. Wish could have seen more of it and tried the breakfast. Only met one staff and he was very professional considering I didn't know which way was up, didn't meet and one else or try breakfast as had to leave early. Would like to go back for leisure trip some time
Review 63:I liked the self contained nature of the room I was in and it was in a beautiful setting. Once the grounds are complete and make the wi-fi a little more consistent and this place will be perfect. Very highly recommended... very friendly staff, great breakfast and the four poster was very comfy. Thank you
Review 64:The temperature outside was at zero overnight, and the heating was off; so maybe a portable heater would be beneficial. More carpet on the cold stone floors would be good.
Review 65:The space in the room, and comfortable bed - was very good. Very good breakfast. Excellent service.
Review 66:The tv was in a seperate room to the bedroom with a sofa, which was places next to the door to the room. Only single glazing and not air tight so too cold to watch tv comfortably from the sofa. Also the room did not have a table, my husband and I asked of we could use the breakfast room on an evening to play a board game but we were turned away.
Review 67:Beautiful old converted farm, each room is seperate from the main building for privacy. The rooms have original features and the bathrooms are modern and stylish. Breakfast was a combination of cereals and fresh yoghurt with a cooked breakfast cooked to order. The staff were very friendly.
Review 68:Had difficulty getting Wi-Fi coverage in my room but could use facilities in main house.
Review 69:A charming B&B in a very pleasant setting. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful and an ideal location for my trip.
Review 70:entrance a little hard to find, could do with some signed to direct you to the car park. Outside sensor lights would also be good for the walkway to your room
Review 71:Location, very friendly owner to welcome you
Review 72:I didn't have hot water, just warm and as there was no shower I had to have a bath, which would have been lovely had it been hot!
Review 73:The room was warm and comfortable. A great size. The breakfast on offer was fantastic. I only had a bacon sandwich but the bacon was very tasty and obviously very good quality, maybe from a local farm.
Review 74:From the time we arrived at the Octon Lodge I can only give nothing but praise. We were met by Lisa, the owner who was very courteous and helpful, we left our car there as we arrived very early to go to Taunton races which is only 150 yards from the hotel. When we returned Lisa's son toook us to our rooms, he was very helpful and polite too. The standard of the rooms was very good, very comfortable and homely. The next morning we had a lovely breakfast and were waited on by Lisa in a very kind and caring way. I cannot praise this enough and will definitely be returning. Adrian
Review 75:Heating turned off at night (freezing and no hot water until 7am) No internet in rooms Awkward space (2 bedroom apt) Needs renovating asap
Review 76:Friendly owners
Review 77:Minor gripe the bed was a bit noisy but not enough to stop us enjoying our stay.
Review 78:As always the family were very welcoming. Room was clean as usual and the breakfast was excellent. Definately be back as the location is so close to everything you need.
Review 79:Expensive and lacked style for this price. Breakfast, no choice, no fruit and only sweet strawberry yogurts, unrefridgerated, available.
Review 80:Friendly couple running it.
Review 81:Bit tricky to find entrance on first visit.
Review 82:Peaceful and comfortable. Has a homely feel about the place. Good size breakfast. Just the place to rest and relax.
Review 83:We stayed on Friday night after finding Octon lodge on booking.com. I was happy with the price right away as it included breakfast making it better value than premier inn and the photos on the website sold it. We arrived to a really warm welcome and we were personally shown to our lodge. The place was beautiful and very tastefully decorated with a living area and bedroom separated by a step. The bathroom was also beautiful with a stand alone bath. outside was a fantastic garden and our own patio set outside of our lodge. The owners were lovely, the guy called us a taxi into town and came to call us when it arrived so we didn't have to wait around. His partner was just as warm and friendly the next morning when we met her at breakfast. The breakfast blew us away, it was the best fry up I've had in a hotel! High quality ingredients and very big! If I'm visiting Taunton or wellsprings leisure centre again this will be where I stay, it's so peaceful, relaxing and a great nights sleep!
Review 84:Inadequate lighting to entrance and on site at night. Lack of power on shower.
Review 85:Quiet. Excellent breakfast. Good and polite service. We will use venue again.
Review 86:Hot water in the shower was a little temperamental but no real problems.
Review 87:We stayed in a large room in the grounds with a very comfortable 4 poster bed, sofa and ensuite bathroom. The room doors were like patio doors and breakfasts were excellent. The whole stay was made very enjoyable by the friendliness of the owners.
Review 88:Nothing really...
Review 89:The accommodation was like your own personal holiday cottage... but on a smaller scale. It was therefore very homely and I could have stayed there for weeks
Review 90:The entrance to the car park was easily missed coming from the Taunton road at night.
Review 91:Unique character, mod cons with a historical twist. Excellent breakfast. Convenient to Taunton.
Review 92:The sewerage pipe was blocked outside and the sewerage leaked up onto the path. We were not allowed into the main part of the property and were asked to walk around the house to the breakfast room to talk to the lady who answered the door!! Bit to snobbish for us. Heating was far to hot and we heard the other guests in the room below and their entire conversation and what they had for dinner and when they went to the toilet!! The main sign to the house states take the first left to gain entry to the carpark but the arrow points to the right and the sign is positioned in the wrong way so confuses guests!!
Review 93:We loved the position of the accomodation for the racecourse.
Review 94:A sign would be nice with a light to see where the lane for the car park.
Review 95:Greeted well by the staff Feeling really appreciated. My room was lovely and my four poster bed very comfortable. The shower was amazing. I woud recommend it and woiukld stay again
Review 96:I could not fault our stay
Review 97:The welcome was very warm the room was lovely, the breakfast was really nice, and Joe the owners son was the nicest young man that my wife and I have have ever met, I wish we could have stayed a day or two longer.
Review 98:Initially rooms and eating area was cold but warmed up after request. External gardens need weeding and several projects were incomplete and some of the woodwork on the buildings was in need of repair and painting
Review 99:Lovely couple. Great four poster bedroom.
Review 100:Wi-Fi is available but not in the bedroom, which is the only downside really.
Review 101:great accommodation, great breakfast and great host. Will certainly be back.
Review 102:Mattress lumpy 4 poster very noisy wooden frame loose Watch the pebbles in carpark
Review 103:Location was excellent Surroundings good Small but ok carpark Staff friendly
Review 104:Unfortunately they in the process of refurbishing the outside so it was a little untidy outside
Review 105:Lovely spacious room with a fab roll top bath and comfy bed
Review 106:Sound insulation in bedroom was ineffective;noise of neighbour's snoring and voices disturbed my sleep(not on first night, possibly neighbouring room empty then?)
Review 107:Excellent hosts Attractive building&grounds Superb breakfast
Review 108:Heating switched off after midnight making it cold through the night and switched on at six o,clock when you wake up.
Review 109:Friendly owners always willing to help you out self service for breakfast except when you needed something cooked.
Review 110:Nothing at all
Review 111:I booked a room at Octon Lodge as something a bit out of the ordinary as part of my fiancee's birthday weekend away. We stayed in room #2 which was very spacious, had a lovely stone floor and four-poster bed. No complaints about the room at all. Breakfast was excellent and the owner's son was very friendly and helpful.
Review 112:No heating on and when I asked the young lad said I could have it put on for a max of half an hour. To many half built buildings and areas of building materials lying around. interconnecting door blocked up with a sheet of plaster board we could hear next doors conversations even when they were talking quietly
Review 113:Leaving, although with some real effort it could be a nice boutique B&B
Review 114:It was obvious to us that a lot of maintenance work was being carried out as some of the properties have rotten door and window frames while others have new ones. But the overall impression was that once all the maintenance is completed the properties will be of a very high standard and well worth staying at. The only other thing to mention is that the paths on site are quite uneven and my mother struggled to walk on them but was very happy once she had got to her room.
Review 115:The buildings have great character and are in a beautiful setting. The food was really good with good portion sizes and the staff were really helpful and friendly.
Review 116:As above.
Review 117:Nice, pleasant family run bnb - especially young lad, who helps and is a credit to his parents. Room comfortable and nice features. Only a couple of downsides experienced, works in progress outside, but sure they wont be for long, then it'll be a pleasure to stroll round gardens. Also, Booking.com website reservation a bit misleading, fortunately, we were happy to overlook this, however others might not. We would stay there again.
Review 118:Free WiFi only available in the breakfast room due to thick stone walled construction of the property
Review 119:Very friendly people, lovely old style accomodation, great breakfast.
Review 120:Leaving
Review 121:This was a fantastic place, your own little retreat in the country. Lisa and family were very helpful to me, having needed a medical emergency. I can't praise or thank them enough. Give it a go you won't regret it. I for one will be returning
Review 122:Lovely spacious room with lounge area and seating outside in garden. Family very friendly and helpful and breakfast was excellent. Quiet, rural setting but only half an hours walk into Taunton centre. Will definitely return
Review 123:As I didn't have a car it was a good 30 minute walk into town. The is a bus though.
Review 124:Own garden entrance - comfort of the the 4 poster bed - heated towel rail in bathroom - breakfast was lovely - they even offered to take me to the train station.
Review 125:Our room contained a beautiful four poster bed and period beams. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice sitting area outside where we watched songbirds and buzzards. Staff were lovely and did a great home cooked breakfast. Good value for money
Review 126:Having to leave.
Review 127:The whole week was very good, the owners were excellent, the breakfasts were brilliant, the accommodation was oldy worldy with real oak timber and an ingle nook fire to die for, plus a very comfy four poster bed.
Review 128:Just an observation rather than criticism- trying to find the entry to property in the dark was murder but staff personal help was great
Review 129:Comfy bed, lovely room and rural location
Review 130:quick response from customer inquiry. Clear and detail location or public transporation information for travellers without a car.
Review 131:location... without own car... getting there seems to be great adventure.
Review 132:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 133:The four poster bed was possibly THE most comfortable bed we have vere slept in, the garden is lovely and the staff very friendly.
Review 134:Furniture needs updating.
Review 135:loved the garden and landscape , great place to relax in after a day at work. loved the room, great character, also clean. breakfast great. Friendly and hospitable family.
Review 136:cooked breakfast was very good. Room was large, clean and a comfortable 4 poster bed. Nice and cool in the evening after a hot sunny day due to the thick stone walls of the building.
