Reviews for Sandford House Hotel
Review 1:It's a little like Fawlty Towers, in need of a refurb. Couldn't find lightswitch on the way to the room. The room smelled a little musty and hairs from when a previous guest had shaved were still present. Restrictive breakfast times, only 8 until 9.
Review 2:Good location for the town, bars and restaurants.
Review 3:Very small room with limited facilities. Thin walls meant you can hear other guests chatting in their rooms.
Review 4:The Location was close to the town centre.
Review 5:Furniture and bathroom a little tired, but this didn't affect the comfort of our stay. A later breakfast time would have been welcome.
Review 6:Central but quiet location. Spacious room. Helpful owner.
Review 7:Terrible night's sleep. Lots of external noise into early hours outside, thin walls and noisy plumbing inside. Dated bed and breakfast type establishment. Card reader not working so had to pay cash. Would not stay here again, started this review at 3am, kept wake by all the shouting and noise from people walking past outside and pub over the road. Noise from taps, pipes and plumbing started loudly around 7am. Yawn..... When I mentioned the noise to the owner, he said that's what you get from being in the centre of town, it's like a war zone outside. I'll go somewhere else next time. Shrewsbury itself is lovely though.
Review 8:Close to the town - but this has its drawbacks too.
Review 9:Having to pay for nearby car parking which started charging at 8.00am. Bathroom looked a bit dated with carpet. Not much shelf space in bathroom. Breakfast could have been served a bit later.
Review 10:Location was very good. Staff friendly. Good breakfast.
Review 11:Our shower veered from dangerously hot to cold - wouldn't have wanted to put a child in it
Review 12:easy walking distance of shops, restaurants. The building had character, not just a concrete block. Loads of tea, coffee & milk which is brilliant for two female friends who love their tea & coffee
Review 13:Breakfast on Sunday finished at 9.00am we weren't getting up before 8.00 on a sunday so missed it, for this reason only i would not stay again
Review 14:Nice location easy to get into the town on foot
Review 15:Room was very clean & quiet . but very basic for the money . £80 for1 night was way to much & no private parking .pay & displayaround the corner not ideal overnight .car was vandalised .
Review 16:welcome was a little off-hand and characterful but friendly enough and this is a good value town centre guest house style hotel.
Review 17:Good location, overnight parking Sat through Sunday very close and only £1. Comfortable beds, good value for money for a group of friends.
Review 18:Wifi only available in lounge downstairs. Forced to pay our account in cash due credit card machine not working and no receipt given.
Review 19:Excellent cooked breakfast and comfortable lounge.
Review 20:Location good. Owner very friendly gave us plenty of information about the town. Breakfast was very good. Room very clean with fresh towels. Beautiful garden
Review 21:The room smelled of dogs and set my asthma off!! The room was so dark I couldn't see in the mirror to get ready even with the light on!
Review 22:Great location
Review 23:The notice in the bedroom said you could get free WiFi but did not specify where in the building or how to get the password
Review 24:The room was clean and comfortable
Review 25:Bad: 'Free' wifi not available in separate bedroom block (where we stayed).
Review 26:Good: Location, cleanliness, comfort of bed, garden, far more sachets of milk than you normally get so more cups of tea.
Review 27:A good value hotel with central location giving easy access to all tourist attractions. Great breakfast with 2 eggs and 2 rashers of bacon plus mushroom and tomatoes freshly cooked and hot (with cereal and toast etc.) I found all staff were pleasant and helpful even when I accidently broke the kettle! I had a very pleasant stay.
Review 28:*Rooms were clean, comfortable and airy. Such a comfy bed. *Hosts very welcoming and helpful *Lounge, dining room and garden very pleasant and relaxing *Fantastic value for money
Review 29:Room was very small shower leaked bed had seen better days the valve on the radiator had been removed and the bathroom radiator didn't work no secure parking as stated and breakfast was very poor
Review 30:Ideal for the shops and town centre but there's no secure parking it's a public car park
Review 31:We stayed for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend in the lodge part of the hotel. The accommodation was very comfy and in a nice quiet area overlooking a lovely terraced garden with a water feature. The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. The only drawback was the pillows on the bed they were quite flat and could have done with being replaced, but other than that everything was fine. The hotel was situated in easy reach for parking and for all the shops and local attractions. We enjoyed our stay at the Sandford Hotel and had a lovely weekend.
Review 32:The Dining-room needs up-dating-it was uncomfortable and cramped and it would have been nice to have a bit more space around the Reception area.
Review 33:The location,( very convenient to the centre of Shrewsbury), the tranquility of the garden, the cooked breakfast tasted really good. The staff were very nice.
Review 34:Small Room - very limited space No Car parking - had to use Pay and Display down the street Disappointing Breakfast Noise from Pub opposite till 3am
Review 35:Bed was comfortable Location
Review 36:I was served very rudely by the man working on the desk. After telling him we were there for a night out he looked at me and my group of friends and said aggressively well remember there are other guests here. I would like to see how he would have handled it if we were older say 40 instead we then paid for the rooms and he was very impatient as we all had to pay separately as we handed him out cards for the machine he snatched them out our hands and then threw the key on the table in front of us not making eye contact at any time and being very rude in the process of giving us our rooms after that we constantly felt as if we were being watched by him as we sat in our rooms
Review 37:The location was good for going into the towb
Review 38:Only downside was no parking at the B&B, but pay and display car park only few yards away, only £4 for 10 hours, no charge after 6clk until 8clk next morning.
Review 39:Great location, proprietor friendly on arrival, nice clean room, and the breakfast was plentiful and of good quality, very happy with our stay.
Review 40:- As soon as we arrived (approx 10.30pm) and rang the doorbell, the owner let us in and was rude from the get go. I used booking.com to reserve my room and he said that my card was declined when he tried to put it through before i'd even arrived but what baffles me is that, he shouldn't have tried to put it through in the first place as that's not how booking.com works (is that not illegal??!). He then accused me of having 'bad money' and that he only accepts 'good money'. Very poor customer service; I didn't feel welcome at all - During breakfast, I had found a hair in my food.
Review 41:The hotel provided me with a milk alternative as requested
Review 42:It was very noisey, we were woken up several times throughout the night with noises both inside and out the hotel. Parking wasn't great, the car park was chocka and had to wait about 30 mins to get a space, plus it cost us more than we thought!
Review 43:The staff were friendly, the room was spotless the location was great!
Review 44:Only slight gripe would be that we had a saniflow system in the toilet which made a bit of a racket in the night. Most rooms probably don't have this I'm guessing.
Review 45:Great location by the river and in the middle of town. A nice pub opposite and an Indian restaurant next door, (which we made use of and would recommend). Despite this we didn't get any noise outside at night. Nice breakfast too.
Review 46:Couldn't stay longer
Review 47:What a great little hotel , really warm and welcoming, the proprietor was so accommodatiing , we will be back on summer to see the garden !!
Review 48:Car park is not "off street and secure" its a council one about 5 minutes away Guy on reception insulted me after 15s of meeting me (a new record) Breakfast on a sunday finished at 9:00 am !! Officious way of running the hotel put us off sit here, do this etc etc
Review 49:Location superb Clean and modern room Nice breakfast
Review 50:The man did his best to be awkward and make us feel unwelcome. It felt like a cross between fawlty towers and colditz.
Review 51:Look elsewhere if you plan to stay in Shrewsbury
Review 52:Car park not available so you have to use local car park that even charged on Sundays (albeit £2 per day). Front of house isn't going to roll the red carpet out when you arrive so don't expect excellent customer service; didn't bother us but would definitely not come up to scratch with those who want to feel welcomed.
Review 53:Very reasonably priced and excellent location. Garden area outside annex is very pretty. Breakfast was included in the price and was very good. Comfy rooms, well heated. Clean shower/bathroom.
Review 54:The breakfast had very limited options and only served between 8-9. no parking. Very hot in building. Shower very poor- hot then cold in temperature. Fan in bathroom very loud.
Review 55:Very Comfy large bed. Very clean. Good location to Shrewsbury town,
Review 56:Best thing for me was the 12 check in time - I was in Shrewsbury early in the day I was not much after 12 at the hotel - there was a problem with the room not been cleaned yet, but the staff was really helpful and gave me another room. It was really pleasant time staying at the hotel as its close to few pubs and its basically with easy walking access to the town center.
Review 57:no car parking , but not really an issue with a cheap public car park just 2 minutes away.
Review 58:Large, comfortable room. Clean, plenty of tea, coffee etc. Nice clean en suite bathroom with lots of hot water, plenty of good towels. Good breakfast, very nicely cooked. Overall a better experience than the 2 Rose rating might suggest.
Review 59:Landlord was a bit grumpy. Softened during the course of the visit. Think he was more comfortable with the older generations. (Just my observation)
Review 60:Usually go for more of the modern hotels, but this was lovely. Nice big room, lots of hot water. Great Breakfast
Review 61:Nothing...
Review 62:The location of this hotel is ideal... Quiet, beautiful garden area too... Our room was ' the best in the hotel' ... It was very spacious & had everything we needed. Staff were very friendly, welcoming & helpful :-) A hearty full Breakfast was served & was delicious .... Thankyou to all... We will definately return again!!
Review 63:Room was not clean, dusty, dirty hand towel in bathroom, generally could have done with a deep clean. £70.00 excessive charge. Full English breakfast was included however should have just had cereal and toast.
Review 64:Location
Review 65:The owner's attitude to guests - rude and condescending. The breakfast slot of 1 hour even at weekends. The owner's lack of ability to provide information to a nut allergy sufferer. The parking arrangement.
Review 66:The central location
Review 67:Rooms looking perhaps a little dated. More socket outlets for chargers etc and wi-fi availability would be good.
Review 68:Very welcoming, friendly, efficient staff. Great cooked breakfasts! Peaceful atmosphere which promotes a great nights sleep.
Review 69:The parking having to park in a public metered car park is a problem when you have to Start paying at 8.00 am
Review 70:The ease of getting around, lovely walk along the river bank to the castle and the quarry garden The staff were very helpful.
Review 71:The room was like going back to the 80's, very dark and dated. Reception area is not at all welcoming. Breakfast time between 8-9 is too limited
Review 72:Breakfast was ok
Review 73:lack of hot water from wash hand basin, had to boil kettle to shave(room 16) however shower was electric and plentiful supply of hot water
Review 74:very central to all amenities, breakfast was delicious and swiftly. served
Review 75:Didn't realize it was opposite a nightclub. Some drunken guests returning were quite noisy. But that is not the fault of the hotel
Review 76:It was good walking distance of the train station. Plenty of shops and places to eat nearby.
Review 77:Breakfast could of been a bit better, quantities were ok, just could of done with some beans for moisture. Also it was only instant coffee. Couldn't get the wi fi on the top floor
Review 78:Bed was comfortable. Owner was friendly and helpful
Review 79:Room dirty and dusty, cracked sink, hair in breakfast, lack of respect for vegetarians - made to feel uncomfortable about it. We didn't realise we would not be in the main hotel. Noisy at night when people return.
Review 80:Great location for the centre with cheap car park nearby. Pretty gardens. If the things I don't like are addressed then its an ok place to stay.
Review 81:Were greeted with ' Well you've finally decided to show up. Where have you been. I'm tired.' This after a full day of traveling and not being able to find the place due to roadworks. No on site parking despite advertising parking available. Parking is a public car park around the corner. Room tiny and basic.
Review 82:Hated this place
Review 83:car park fees and through no fault of the hotel road works going on and the one way system
Review 84:excellent hospitality great breakfast, very good facilities close by either side of the river what I did like far out ways the things I did not like
Review 85:We were taken to our room, where we unpacked. Then we were told that we had been put into a more expensive room by mistake and told that we could move to the one that we should have been given or pay extra. Having relaxed we had to accept the extra cost. The owner did not seem very happy to be there and during our breakfast he was clashing chairs cutlery, plates, etc. around with no concern for any of his guests.
Review 86:Very happy with the accommodation and food.
Review 87:The room smelt quite heavily of dogs and the bathroom floor could have been cleaner but everything else was fine
Review 88:The Owner was very friendly and the location of the hotel was great - within easy reach of the town centre. The beds were very comfy and the tea and coffee supply is the biggest I have ever had in a hotel! Stayed in one of the rooms at the back of the main building and was nice and quiet even though there was a pub across the road at the front of the hotel. Unfortunately didn't get to sample the breakfast as had to catch an early train.
Review 89:Having to park the car in a public carpark and having to pay. very small hand basin. Room bed collapsed on one side.
Review 90:Within walking dustance to centre of town.
Review 91:Liked everything about the place I was in charge of booking the hotel for a golf weekend away for 4 of us and the others all said job well done for picking this hotel Rooms were spot on Breakfast was just big enough And location was great I'd recommend this hotel to anyone
Review 92:Basement room. Miserable room . unusual shaped room. Poor bathroom
Review 93:Position good
Review 94:Room was very small
Review 95:Able to take dog, separate location to the main house, very comfortable.
Review 96:Location and value for money
