Reviews for Charnwood Lodge

Review 1:The wardrobe was severely broken and almmost collapsed. The bed was very firm and therefore not comfortable for me. The first 2 nights it was very loud during the early hours of the morning as a group of youngsters (I believe they were youngsters) ran up and down the corridors, shouting and banging on doors.

Review 2:It is close to loughborough university (4min by car) and local amenities. Free WiFi is also a plus and breakfast had a good variety.

Review 3:The room was freezing and even though the owner turned the radiator on, I could not get warm that night when I tried to sleep. The bathroom was like a refrigerator and I could not take a shower. The bathroom looks outdated, no bathtub, and there was a lot of mold on the ceiling and tile. Teacup at breakfast wasn't clean.

Review 4:The staff was very friendly. The bedroom was spacious and clean. The breakfast room was pretty. Wifi was good once I finally found someone who knew the password. Good location near cafés and restaurants, plus it wasn't too far from the university.

Review 5:Nice and pleasant staff. Big room and spacious parking, located within a walking distance from the city centre. It also offers dinners as well, not just a B&B. Fair price.

Review 6:Spotlessly clean hotel. Lovely and traditional - just what an English Hotel should be! Nothing too much trouble for the staff - very polite and accommodating!

Review 7:Chose Charnwood to stay for conveinience while visiting Steam rail for xmas lunch. Nice clean room Lovely staff v nice breakfast.Allowed us to leave car in the carpark until time to go home. Would certainly use again.

Review 8:There were no rooms available when we arrived. We had specifically booked it to meet up with friends who were in the same accomodation. It was an oversight on the Charnwood's part, however, they offered us coffee and a seat while the manager travelled over to sort it out. He booked us into another b&b 2 doors away and by way of a good will gesture, paid it on our behalf. It couldn't be helped and it was a decent compromise for not being with our friends and we did have breakfast with them the next day. The dining area has very nice decor and is in a beautiful big bright conservatory. The breakfast was ample and well presented, tasty and hot. I would definitely go back and enjoy the full experience.

Review 9:there was only one cilening lights were working, the rest of the lights in the room were out of order, and there was no heating on in the room the room was cold

Review 10:was clean &tidy comfot

Review 11:Cold room, especially the shower area had to use small heater supplied no radiators on? bathroom very small no where to hang towels, slow shower

Review 12:comfy bed, location to the steam railway

Review 13:We came back from meal out around 10.30pm and would have liked to have had a nightcap in the bar. It was closed.

Review 14:Clean, comfortable room. Good breakfast. Within easy walking distance to town. Visiting son at Uni so good location and reasonably priced.

Review 15:It was so ridiculous that the staff of their reception told me the room we reserved was double ordered the day before I arrived. Actually, I ordered the room two weeks before but they just told me no room one night before we arrived. It meaned we couldn't live there. For solving this problem, they helped us to book another hotel and call a taxi. Also, the staff of reception gave me 5 pounds to pay for the taxi and then left us outside their house. In fact, I feel so bad when I talked to the staff. He made me feel he just want to gave me the taxi charge and let me go outside quickly. Very bad experience.

Review 16:店员帮我们重新定了酒店叫了车

Review 17:Bed was very old. Comfy but maybe not for some! Carpet had hairs on it- rather thread bare so maybe hard for a hoover to "pick up"?

Review 18:Friendly and helpful staff, nice room and bathroom and suoer breakfast

Review 19:The room hade a bad case of damp which looked unpleasant. There were no complementary tissues.

Review 20:The location was just what i wanted. Plenty of parking space.

Review 21:Although stopped one night was made to feel very welcome, room very good, breakfast also very good, plenty of choice. Would recommend to family and friends, would go back again.

Review 22:Stayed overnight in one of the annex twin rooms. No problems, good service and great breakfast. Handy for the Great Central Railway and it's preserved steam railway where we had a 6 course evening meal.

Review 23:service at breakfast slow, would normally have been fine but we had an appointment to get to

Review 24:clean, close to local amenities, free WiFi, good price, plenty of parking

Review 25:Nothing much to dislike. I would have liked a chair in the room as sitting on the bed to watch TV or read was not great.

Review 26:the lodge was convenient for the town and The Great Central Railway, which I was visiting. There was ample parking and good WiFi

Review 27:Tried to use bar one evening but it was shut. You could hear people chatting in room next to ours and their water running. Quite thin walls in the room we were allocated. Couldn't find any staff to book breakfast for following morning, so left without, although it smelled good.

Review 28:Good location for the shops. Room nice and modern and clean. Free parking in private car park.

Review 29:The service was very good. Staff very Friendly. Breakfast excellent. Extremely good value for money and would recommend a stay here. Will definitely book again when working in the area.

Review 30:The location was excellent as we had a driving experience at Prestwold Hall and a Sunday lunch on the Steam Train, the staff were lovely, very friendly.

Review 31:No bad experince

Review 32:The location of the hotel to the Railway, the price, the food, the cleanliness of the room, the helpfulness of the staff. The proprieter even allowed us to leave our car on the hotel car park whilst we spent the day on the railway after we had checked out. Will definately return if in the area again.

Review 33:Not a bad experience just that the double bed is very close to the wardrobe and not easy to manoeuvre in the middle of the night

Review 34:Cleanliness was fantastic. Very attentive.

Review 35:We were unable to take our very well behaved dog into the main building so unable to sit in the bar and have a drink or our evening meal there as we expected. We had to arrange a take away meal to be brought in from a restaurant which we ate in our room without proper facilities. A great shame as we liked it otherwise and cannot help feeling the proprietor is missing a trick here? As such it cannot be classified as pet friendly!

Review 36:Most aspects of Charnwood Lodge were really nice and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 37:Nothing to dislike

Review 38:The location was ideal for what myself and my group of friends wanted. Everything about the hotel was excellent staff, rooms, food, cleanliness no problems at all.

Review 39:Nothing

Review 40:The room was a good size, the bed seemed to be a king size but when you lay on it you realised that it was two single mattresses as one. This wasn't a problem as they were comfortable. The on suite was compact but perfectly usable. We had a room at the front of the house and were concerned about the floodlights which bathed the front of the building when we had arrived as it made the room very bright. But when we had returned from town they had been turned off. Breakfast was good with friendly prompt service. I checked out and they were happy for me to leave the car there all morning while I had a few hours shopping in town.

Review 41:Noise from next door room during the night. Unfortunately, not a lot that the manager can do about this.

Review 42:Plenty of parking, and within walking distance of the steam railway. Breakfast was excellent. Good value for the money.

Review 43:The lounge downstairs is pleasant but the seating is very uncomfortable. Definitely short stay chairs which is a shame.

Review 44:The staff were so friendly and helpful and the room was very clean and comfortable. Good advice from staff on where to go for dinner; we went to the Quorden Fox - excellent.

Review 45:Nothing I didn't like

Review 46:We had an excellent stay in a lovely clean room with a very large comfy bed. Breakfast was very good in a large, pleasant, airy conservatory. Plenty of off-road parking both in front of the property and at the rear. For the first time ever, I didn't check every nook and cranny when we left and managed to leave my favourite dress and a cardi in the wardrobe. Arrangements were easily made for its safe return. Very impressed,

Review 47:Couldn`t operate the shower. Bed made up for short people.

Review 48:Ground floor bedroom. Ample parking. Quiet at night. Good breakfast - marmelade in a pot. Friendly breakfast staff. Good, competative price.

Review 49:no bad experience

Review 50:nice room, great welcome from the staff

Review 51:There isn't anything that I would say we disliked.

Review 52:The hotel was convenient to where we had to go to part venue.

Review 53:very attentive efficient staff. exactly as advertised!

Review 54:Shower facilities were not up to scratch. Television didn't work. One lamp light bulb was blown.

Review 55:good price quiet good parking

Review 56:Poor breakfast

Review 57:Location for Loughborough Centre

Review 58:Friendly and comfy

Review 59:Very small bathroom and some very impolite guests, but cant blame hotel for them

Review 61:Nothing all posative

Review 62:Made very welcome on arrival and departure. Very good value for money. Very close to the venue we were attending

Review 63:Room a little noisy although to be fair that was not supposed to be the original room but I had to be moved.

Review 64:Friendly and very convenient for work.

Review 65:very freindly warm reception on arrival nice room

Review 90:the step up to the shower

Review 91:the room and breakfast and staff

Review 93:Polite and helpful staff / owners

Review 94:nice clean helpful staff very good exsperience

Review 95:nearness to the road, will not want a room at the front again.

Review 96:only a couple of minutes away from where we needed to be. Plenty of (free) parking.

Review 97:Handy location, clean, free wifi, and a nice breakfast, everything a businessman requires for an overnight stay at a reasonable price

Review 98:Shower had a tendancy to overheat.

Review 99:Very friendly and helpful, nice and clean lovely breakfast.

Review 100:Very convenient for Great Central Railway Arrived day of change of management and new staff adapted very well Made to feel welcome

Review 101:nothing

Review 102:friendliness of the staff, room was clean and perfect for myself and my colleague

Review 103:Rude and abrasive staff, tiny pokey DUSTY room with 1 window that looked straight into the dining room where a funeral was being held on the first day we were there! Problems with shower 2 days in a row, on first day had to use shower 2 FLOORS above us (after being suggested that we used another guests on the other side of the hotel once they were finished in there). Breakfast is a rip off, almost £7 for a pathetically small cooked breakfast (1 sausage, 2 bits of bacon, 2 tiny mushrooms cut into 4 bits and a smearing of beans). Walls are paper thin, could hear guests in room behind us urinating and showering at gone 1.30am not to mention the extractor fan making a lot of noise! Manageress was unapologetic ACCUSING me of lying about the water in the shower going hot and cold and the pressure going crazy. Maintained that the room was not dirty when the dust was coming off every surface i rubbed my finger on including the head board, GROSS! Argued every point, still charged us £140 for 2 nights, RIP OFF! Do not trust the photos on the website, unfortunately we did but ended up regretting it enormously. The place is VERY dated, quite grubby, over priced and the staff are rude and arrogant.

Review 104:Location for us was probably the only good thing about this place.

Review 105:The staff dealt with my sons allergies fantastically and made him feel very much at home. They opened the bar for my husband even though it was only him drinking, they always had a smile and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. We will definitely be going back, it was a lovely stay

Review 106:Prob bad timing on my part but we arrived as a wake was taking place and staff walked us right through it. (Which we later realised that could have been avoided by using a different entrance)

Review 107:The staff (kitchen staff especially) were really helpful. They couldn't do enough for us.

Review 108:Very small bedroom, carpet required a good vacuum, the en-suite was the size of a downstairs toilet in a small semi and very 'snug' unable to control the heat of water in the shower, so rather hot to the point of scolding! although shower gel etc were supplied! It was the last room available when I booked it but I would have described it as a single room rather than a double, it was certainly not representative of the picture gallery shown on the website and didn't meet my expectations having read previous reviews about the establishment!

Review 109:The bed although a standard double was comfortable. Security was good, no access to the guest house without a key. Good parking facilities.

Review 110:No negatives.

Review 111:Staff very helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast and service was very good. Our room was a large double with shower over bath over looking the main road which was busy but not noisy. We did not use the bar and lounge facilities but they looked to be very adequate with a well stocked bar. We will recommend and if coming back will use again. Restaurants and pubs within 10 minutes walk.

Review 112:I was hoping for dinner in the hotel but none provided on Fri, Sat and Sun. Very good restaurant nearby though Peter

Review 113:Our double room was clean and comfortable and well provided for. Bathroom was very nice and clean , I would have liked to see a grab rail over the bath but otherwise fine . Linen was clean and fresh. Breakfast excellent . We would happily stay there again Peter

Review 114:Whilst the booking advised some rooms have a private bathroom (not en-suite) the bathroom I had (room 5) was not private as it couldn't be locked from the outside so toiletries had to be taken to and fro. Not a huge problem for me but may be for others?

Review 115:A proper independent guest house - 2 good nights sleep. Thanks

Review 116:There was no hair dryer, no newspaper and curtains weren't very thick. The staff is stingy : breakfast has to be paid without prior advice, even if cancelled the day before!!!

Review 117:The room was quiet.

Review 118:Not anything i could think off.

Review 119:Every bit of a thing here is good.It was a delight compared to the cost payed. Room bathroom well organized , everything cared of etc.I will come here again.
