Reviews for Morgans @ The Exchange Hotel
Review 1:No staff at check in. Bedsheets were dirty (no staff to be seen to raise issue with). Otherwise great stay.
Review 2:Nice private kitchenette and bathroom. Tea and coffe making facilities a nice touch. Cosy but comfy room. Easy to come and go when pleased. Excellent mid-town location
Review 3:I had a problem with entry code (I had written it down wrong). Rang Morgans contact number at 09:30. No answer despite supposedly 24 hr contact. Left message, no one rang me back. Had to employ help from one of the refurbishment contractors to get in (luckily he was outside) at about 14:00 No staff at all. Key left on a desk in envelope for me. Refurbishment in progress therefore no restaurant, bar etc. Informed of this by Morgans 5 days before but still a disappointment and inconvenient. No chair No waste bin.
Review 4:Really good location
Review 5:Cancellation policy, pre payment. No staff readily available during the night. Anyone staying has access 24 hrs a day and as a result people were coming in throughout the night, shouting, laughing and generally causing a disturbance.
Review 6:Location & price
Review 7:Staff friendliness and professionalism. They went out of their way to help with everything throughout our stay. The Food was wonderful all the time we ate there over our 5 night stay.
Review 8:The shower just about worked in the evening, but in the morning it did not work at all! The room was like the size of a cupboard. Luckily we only stayed overnight.
Review 9:The location was excellent. The noise from the hotel in the evening was very loud - our room was clean, modern & tidy but right on the street side.
Review 10:Parking on a corner outside , on one way busy traffic lane, had to unload car. Parking on single yellow OK !! if you can get onto a single yellow However then you must get out before 0800 of get booked. No offer of even early continental breakfast
Review 11:Helpful staff, room advertised as small double, was that ! however I wish I had their designer ,it was modern clean and all amenities worked, very well designed.
Review 12:The staff are fantastic! Everyone with whom we had contact was extremely friendly and helpful. It is a happy place! The location is also central and a great meeting place. We highly recommend Morgans Exchange Hotel!
Review 13:There was no socket for hair dryer and straighteners near to the only mirror in the room. Had to stretch in front of the telly and lean into the bathroom mirror, but couldn't manage very well.
Review 14:We liked the location - very close to the Italian Restaurant we ate at.
Review 15:Room was on top floor i use a walking stick there was no lift, room was too small, bed was too low a bit like a futon, small wardrobe with just 2 coathangers between us
Review 16:Liked the location staff very attentive
Review 17:Found old off milk and food in the fridge. Mold in the shower and paint coming off the wall in the bathroom. cracked roof ceiling windows that let the cold in. If your staying a few nights the nearest place to park is a long stay car park across the river.
Review 18:Quite at night. Nice location to get in and out of town.
Review 19:This hotel charged me for meals and drinks which we did not have. Total of £47 unacceptable reply when approached by it. Did not give permission for money to be taken from my bank.. Still awaiting money to be refunded
Review 20:Location spot on
Review 21:As we were going on a tour we were travelling light with baggage, but our room was on the second floor (was good - further above the bar on Saturday night) & had to carry the bags up the stairs. The front door to the room didn't automatically lock when you closed it - entering or leaving. Had to remember to use the key to lock when leaving which is not the case of nearly all places we have stayed at. Not good room if you have a lot of luggage. Beds are very low. The shower is lower than the sewer system & has a pump to put the waste water out and it has to run a little longer after stopping the shower - My wife wanted to know what the noise was!! & I couldn't tell until I had my shower.
Review 22:Need a place to stay for the night that was comfortable with all the facilities at a reasonable price. Booked late so availability was limited and from reviews was a bit wary but the room being a twin was great. Everything was provided and seemed to be recently renovated, en-suite & open-able internal windows acting like double glazing to keep out the street noise & lower temperature.
Review 23:No car parking although not far to walk to public car park.
Review 24:Excellent staff welcome. Great location. Comfortable bed. Meal in restaurant was very good.
Review 25:We were in room 3. Landing fire door has squeak, persons next to us being a nuisance with it and repeatedly opening and shutting it. Maybe do something about making it quieter!
Review 26:Very central for 2 lady travellers. Nice atmosphere about the place. Very clean.
Review 27:Breakfast didn't start until 10am???!!! Bed in room very low, TV very small. Parking is a nightmare if you turn up before 6pm - all car parks in centre are short stay, the long stay is a ten minute walk !
Review 28:Good location, large room, good shower Good bar.
Review 29:Room very cramped. Bed very low. Shower difficult to understand. Had to run water for a while before it became warm enough. Breakfast not included which as the price was so high would have expected it to be invluded. Time of breakfast needs to start earlier.
Review 30:Easy to find. Friendly staff.Clean.
Review 31:The room was a little small and the bed had a frame round it on which we kept banging ourselves.
Review 32:The central location was great and the staff very helpful about where to park
Review 33:There wasn't even a hand-span of space between the two beds or between the double bed & wall at foit of bed. All three of us banged our ankles on the wooden bedframe ar some stage of our stay. Questionable whether space in room for double & single bed meets health & safety standards!
Review 34:The room was spotless, the bathroom was a good size with an excellent shower & tea making facilities were good (except the 2 Earl Grey tea bags weren't replaced after first night!).
Review 35:Not really a bad experience as such but the wi-fi was terrible! It could get a little noisy also, but that's probably the location more so than the hotel itself. Long stay parking was also not ideal as the car park is about 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel, but there are loading areas outside to drop bags, check in and then move the car.
Review 36:Great location, reasonable sized "family" room - sofa bed plus double, which was creaky though. Although we didn't try the food, the restaurant was busy and the food smelled nice. Good sized bathroom!
Review 37:Bedroom was shocking, unable to walk around the bed, litterally impossible, beds were extremely low to the ground and the matress was as poor as I've ever slept on anywhere, including a really cheap Blackpool B & B. Wifi took an eternity to connect to and the base from the music downstairs was ridiculous, this needs addressing,
Review 38:Only the town centre location
Review 39:They should state that the room is above a pub which is the only pub open till 2am. It was very hard to get to sleep due to all the music and noise from the pub.
Review 40:Rather noisy machinery outside if you like sleeping with the window open. No hotel parking and the nearby on-street parking was a bit expensive.
Review 41:A really nice hotel - great food, a great little room, and the food (and drink in the evening ) were superb and reasonably priced. The staff were all very friendly, and the town centre location perfect for a bit of exploring.
Review 42:Everything was great. For people that like cooked breakfast please note that cooked breakfast is only available from 10 am. Toasts and cereals are available at any time.
Review 43:Great location and very spacious and nicly done rooms. Very good value for money. Good food in the restaurant.
Review 44:WiFi a bit hit and miss Bed although very comfortable was a little low.
Review 45:Location. Close to all the sights, bars and restaurants. Comfortable room with huge bathroom great staff Great atmosphere in the bar downstairs
Review 46:No parking on site
Review 47:It's very central for bars, restaurants and shopping, The staff were very helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, did not have the breakfast as it was not included in the room fee
Review 48:2nd floor room but still very noisy until 3am at weekend. Curtains too thin so then disturbed by light, got little sleep! Lack of space to walk round the end of the bed, 9". No car park. Bed very low.
Review 49:Tea and coffee in room and toiletries. Good shower and nice towels. Staff friendly.
Review 50:bed right next to door so heard people coming and going till 4.00 am on Sat someone playing table tennis it sounded like with there door open repeatedly
Review 51:The little kitchen for microwave
Review 52:It's our second staying in Morgans. We enjoed. Very thoughtful staff, ready to help with any problem and with luggage (relevant cause there is no elevator). Excellent location and nice opportunity to open windows for fresh air. Thank you!
Review 53:Rooms are in need of some TLC - a number of small maintenance issues need attention (shower door seals etc) - we had 4 rooms and all were the same....not as good as when we were here in 2014 sadly...
Review 54:Location. We have stayed here on 3 previous occasions and Morgans is ideally situated for us as we have friends in Shrewsbury.
Review 55:Only bad thing was the radiator in the bathroom was on full all night so felt like a sauna by the morning. But everything else was good.
Review 56:Friendly staff Good room for the money Goo location for night life
Review 57:Main concern was that the curtains were flimsy and thus light flooded into the room before 5am. Would not be a problem in winter but is in summer. Only other point to note is there is no on-site parking. There are plenty of car parks very close by, but these start at 8.00am so need to go and put money in if staying for a late breakfast.
Review 58:Good location and friendly staff Good soundproofing from outside noise
Review 59:as above we came as a group which consisted of grandmother, 3 daughters and a granddaughter, before coming the hotel had emailed and suggested the rooms which would suit our requirements, on arrival staff were very helpful and the rooms clean and tidy. we will be booking with this hotel for future weekends away.
Review 60:Light in room very poor and no light around mirror in bedroom No coat hooks on back of door or in room 3 adults in room but only 4 clothes hangers for a weekend - extra charge for more tea at breakfast is very bad considering cost of breakfast No bin in bathroom
Review 61:Location Friendly staff Cleanliness
Review 62:The mattress was tired and needed replacing and the paintwork in the ensuite had seen better days . but apart from that the room was clean and suited our purpose .
Review 63:Friendly helpful staff , gave us good advice on the vagaries of the oppressive parking in the town . Had a very enjoyable dinner , however ,whilst the place was busy with a lively Saturday night crowd, the meal took quite a long time to arrive , but was delicious .
Review 64:The room was clean and decorated in lovely colours . The curtains had a tear and there was a plastered patch on the wall which needed sanding and touching up. This was offset by the fab location, great value and wonderful staf
Review 65:Bathroom mirror light not working also bathroom radiator. Both beyond capabilities of staff. I put both defects firmly in the lap of higher management for not being repaired.
Review 66:Helpfulness of staff.
Review 67:I should have checked for parking prior took it for granted that the hotel would have parking. Prices were very reasonable though.
Review 68:The bar/restaurant area
Review 69:Small room. Bed virtually on floor. bathroom freezing. No breakfast till 10 am. Parking at car park Cross road is expensive. Only free parking 8 pm onwards.
Review 70:Hmmm ... The beds were a little bit uncomfortable but, not a big trouble really ! Still good knack to back again !!
Review 71:Everything !! Service, attention, location ... Everything was perfect !!
Review 72:The bathroom had no heating and the drains were a bit smelly. The king size bed didn't quite fit the room. There is no parking but the nearby town parking was fairly easy to use and not too expensive.
Review 73:Clean and newly furbished. Bedroom and hallway nice and warm. Friendly staff and good food both for breakfast and dinner. The pork belly was delicious.
Review 74:We loved the location its a shame there is no parking on site but the car park is nearby I just had to remember to pop back occaiaionally to top up the parking fees x
Review 75:Alarm going off across road at 3 in the morning, was quite loud but that wasn't hotels fault, just a draw back of staying in centre of town.
Review 76:Morgan's is very central and within easy walking distance to bus and train station. No problems using wifi. Staff were lovely.
Review 77:No full length mirror No tooth brush n toothpaste No shower cap No intercom service with reception - have to walk down 2 flights of steps to talk to them On occasion may be left behind as sole occupant in hotel in middle of night
Review 78:Free wifi Cooking faacility Free coffee n biscuits
Review 79:Room really noisy, mostly from the bar/restaurant below, but also from outside both at night and early morning. As far as I could see all of the other rooms were on a higher floor so may be OK. Room quite small and carpet stained. Bathroom smelly. Not good value for money as we had such a poor nights sleep. My advice would be not to stay in room one!
Review 80:Location nice and central.
Review 81:Room a bit cramped to accommodate bed frame. Large bathroom in comparison with large dead space between inner and outer doors. Mattress not paticularly comfortable.
Review 82:Central location.Check in and out simple, quick, and straight forward. Clean, modern, and functional fixtures and fittings
Review 83:My put up bed wasn't made ready but this was quickly sorted. The put up bed was a little lumpy with a thin mattress. I guess this bed is usually used by a child - it was fine for one night only for me. My daughters were comfy in the double bed.
Review 84:Nice clean room, very helpful staff
Review 85:No on site parking. But pay site nearby. Room up 2 flights of stairs not a problem for us but maybe for others.
Review 86:Perfect location for old town. Clean practical room.
Review 87:Size of the bedroom and the low soft mattress on the bed. Also, lack of long stay parking nearby. It was quite a walk in the multi-storey car park in the rain but the cost was very reasonable at £8 for 24 hours.
Review 88:Stayed overnight at Morgan @ The Exchange Hotel whilst doing some Christmas shopping in Shrewsbury. The location, staff and dinner were of a very high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal.
Review 89:the beds were so low!!!I had to roll out of it to stand up.the curtains in the bedroom were very shabby and torn.in the bathroom the towel rail next to the hand basin was broken and I caught my arm on it and drew blood. Not impressed.
Review 90:the staff were very helpful and accommodating.anything I asked for was dealt with quickly and with a smile.we had Sunday lunch around 6ish and this was really good.
Review 91:Unfortunately there was a problem with the toilet flush which had not been reported by an outgoing customer. Only a small inconvenience for us and did not spoil our stay.
Review 92:The hotel is situated just off the main shopping street, so easy access to shops. Friendly staff and excellent service. The food was excellent as was the room.
Review 93:No table/desk to sit, no mirror in the room. No towel rail you can reach from shower. TV can be watched only from the bed. You can cook but would need to eat with the dish on your lap!
Review 94:Excellent kitchen with fridge, though I didn't need it. Sky light over the nice bed.
Review 95:The rooms were a little cramped for 4 people and the shower tray needed work, i.e. grout redoing. This let the very spacious bathroom down unfortunately.
Review 96:The downstairs bar area and easy walking distance to all attractions
Review 97:Only downside is parking, there is a carpark right opposite, but requires you to get up before 8am on a Sunday to buy a ticket (won't let you do it on the Saturday night) We were fined at 8:05 ..doh!!
Review 98:Everything about this place is fantastic.
Review 99:No car parking available at the hotel. Price would have been better if included breakfast also
Review 100:The hotel itself has recently been refurbished which meant room was to a good standard although did look like it had a few unfinished areas.(screws left of shelf in cupboards). Compact but perfectly adequate room and facilities
Review 101:The glass panel by the door into the bar didn't have a screen on it and I walked into the glass, this was rectified by putting a poster up but not before I had broken my glasses and badly bruised my eye!
Review 102:walking distance for the town centre
Review 103:Only criticism would be that bedroom curtains were too thin for the level of outside street lighting
Review 104:Location Value for money Cleanliness Helpful staff
Review 105:Beware the sink taps! Turn on too fast and the water cascades over the edge of the sink- and onto you!
Review 106:Staff probably the best ever encountered in a hotel. Good location in the town centre. Rooms were good.
Review 107:There was no parking options which meant I had to get up at 8 in the morning and put money on the car. Both car parks close by only allowed a 2 hour ticket to be bought. This meant I had to go out again at 10am. Due to the fact that I had been at a wedding the night before I overslept and got a parking ticket. Although this was my fault if parking had been accommodated for this wouldn't have been an issue.
Review 108:Staff were brilliant and really accommodating. They reduced the price as one of the group could no longer stay.
Review 109:The fact that we had a small, quiet, clean, housetrained dog and it was no problem to them. Also the side entrance made convenient for going in and out.
Review 110:Insufficient local info to hand. We had to go to our car in the long stay car park at 8 on Sunday to buy a ticket as the text phone pay details didn't work. It was pouring rain, no staff around yet and there were no local taxi details in the room info folder or on the notice board.
Review 111:The room was bright and clean and large bathroom. We had an iron & mini ironing board, and a hair dryer all in the wardrobe which meant we didn't have to go asking for anything. The kettle and cups were big (not tiny hotel size you sometimes get). The beds were v comfy. Staff were polite and friendly.
Review 112:We were at the front of the hotel and it was a bit noisey for us (we live in a very quiet village). Car parking can be inconvenient.
Review 113:Friendly atmosphere, very polite and helpful staff. Working for a prominent national newspaper covering the Shrewsbury Flower Show, we needed somewhere close to the showground with good communications. Morgans really fitted the bill for us. We intend to stay there again.
Review 114:The floor in the shower was increadibly slippery, which we didn't appreciate. Since there's no staff on site when the restaurant is closed, I would feel a bit uneasy staying here as a solo female traveller, although the front door is locked for everyone but guests, but if travelling with someone else I would certainly return.
Review 115:Very nice room and bathroom. We arrived early and had to wait to check-in, but could leave our luggage at the hotel. When we got back the staff had kindly carried our three large suitcases up to our room.
Review 116:The room was advertised as small but I didn't expect it to be quite so small. Felt a bit claustrophobic as no window could be seen from the bed.
Review 117:Staff friendly. Very clean. Good location
Review 118:A bit noisy because of the road outside. But in the night it's ok. No air conditioning, we didn't need it, but it was not hot when we stayed.
Review 119:A nice hotel, good location, very clean. We liked the big room, view is fine. Tea-making facilities. The room is rather spacious for two, actually, 3 guests can stay in the big double without any trouble.
Review 120:The room was a little bit small.
Review 121:Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We ate here too and, although there was an error in the order, this was dealt with efficiently and apologetically. The food was very good.
Review 122:Stayed with a friend in the twin room at the weekend had a few drinks in the bar and headed out. Can't wait to come again rooms were fantastic so was the wine
Review 123:The staff were very friendly and helpful .
Review 124:We arrived at a busy time but the staff were eager to please and made us most welcome.
Review 125:Easy central location , cleanliness.
Review 126:Good location. Quiet, well-maintained, room (No.5).
Review 127:There was no over night parking.
Review 128:The location was great and the room although small had everything we need.
Review 129:Very noisy. Till late at night and then from early in the morning.
Review 130:Terrible for parking
Review 131:The room was cold when we first got there.
Review 132:Location and lively pub
Review 133:Rather cramped room.
Review 134:Liked bar atmosphere. Good large bath towels.
