Reviews for New Inn - Dorchester
Review 1:We made a last minute booking to break up a four hour journey and we weren't disappointed. The staff were all attentive and friendly, and the room and restaurant were fantastic. Would not hesitate to return.
Review 2:We had been at a wedding the night before and were severely hungover.... We missed the breakfast window by a good 15 mins but the chef happily rustled us up a full breakfast, which was delicious. The staff were all extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would stay here again.
Review 3:Room far too hot at night which made it difficult to get off to sleep
Review 4:Comfortable room, lovely location, fluffy towels changed daily. Opportunity to eat in restaurant if needed. Good breakfast
Review 5:When I booked with you total cost was 170-00p for2 nights BB.For 2 people. When manager received booking from you ,Total charge was 210-00.Reason why it was more ?
Review 6:Overall friendliness of staff nothing too much trouble.Food was fab.
Review 7:Lighting in the bedroom was rather "subdued", as is so often the case in hotel rooms, and only one bedside light for a double bed.
Review 8:Really nice dinner, interesting choices on the menu with very good service. Friendly and efficient service at breakfast, very traditional choices.
Review 9:No bath mat. Should have asked in advance but was actually surprised that you did not have any soya or other dairy alternative. TV controls were slightly more complicated than how I access Sky at home
Review 10:Very helpful directions to the hotel as SatNav didn't work. Much appreciated late at night. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Good lighting. Simple easy to use shower.
Review 11:Not applicable
Review 12:Staff were friendliest ever met. Most accommodating and keen to help. What made it better was the excellent service for booking in and getting settled.
Review 13:The reception was most welcoming and friendly. The staff proved to be eager to please at all times. The surrounds were well appointed and comfortable. Food menu was extremely varied with the catering was to a high standard. Overall, terrific value for money.
Review 14:If I have to find a fault, the duvet was too hot. Oh, what a hardship!
Review 15:The locally sourced food was excellent, the service professional but friendly. The accommodation was generously sized (including 6ft wide bed) and very, very clean.
Review 16:The pleasantness and helpfulness of staff from the minute I arrived to the minute I left. Peaceful location Choice of meals good and absolutely delicious.
Review 17:My fault probably I didn't realise check in times were restricted. Charming lady sorted me, but was in a rush for an appointment...
Review 18:Modern rooms with a beautiful view Nice restaurant food and setting Friendly and helpful staff
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:Lovely comfortable room.King size bed.Lots of tea, coffee and chocolate makings in the room. Food in the restaurant excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. All of this in a pretty village surrounded by the Dorset countryside. What more can I say. Will be going back
Review 21:A lovely Hotel amidst rolling fields. Fantastic views from our room, and the food and drink is reasonably priced. Enjoyed a lovely 1 night stay, and the coast is only 15 minutes by car.
Review 22:The "generator" opposite our room (separate building within the grounds) kept going on & off throughout the night, rather spoilt our sleep..
Review 23:food in the restaurant for breakfast & evening meal were both very good & plentiful. The room was comfortable & brightly decorated. Lovely shower
Review 24:The opening time of the pub is really not good. The check in is at 5:30pm and you can see that in the booking, what they don`t say is that if you come any earlier there won`t be any staff in the property so you have to stand there waiting for someone to show up, you cant even seat down in the pub to have a drink while waiting to check in because everything is closed. We were lucky that we arrived just 15mins before one of the members of the staff showed up else it wouldn`t be very pleasant especially when you are travelling with a 2 years old.
Review 25:Very good location with a beautiful view of the countryside. Staff was very nice and helpful. The pub makes lovely food. I liked our family room. Although they were having a party in their function ring and the pub was a bit busy we couldn`t hear much noise, so it felt very comfortable.
Review 26:The warm welcome, the exceptional room, and the breakfast were first class. We also visited the restaurant for an evening meal, and the food was superb. I personally couldnt recommend 'The New Inn', highly enough.
Review 27:This place is fabulous, staff are very friendly and welcoming, really helpful. The rooms were beautifully decorated and spotless. As for the food, it was amazing. Will definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone.
Review 28:Toilet not clean on arrival, but all was very well cleaned for the rest of our stay.
Review 29:Excellent food & a good interesting choice. Warm & welcoming, would certainly recommend it.
Review 30:excellent staff I got there when they were closed for the afternoon having not read my email correctly. I called booking .com who managed to locate the Manager and she called the chef who let me have the keys to my room. Excellent staff and lovely food and room
Review 31:Few things in room need attention but nothing that affected our stay just a few bits in room ie curtains need re hanging, little bit of paint chipped off of wall and glass on dressing and bedside tables slip easily so would be good if had something to stop slipping. An earlier booking in time would be good especially when staying one night but overall a lovely chilled place to stay
Review 32:Room had everything needed, shower was lovely, staff were helpful and friendly and evening meal was excellent. Breakfast was good and set us up for day. Would defiantly stay again.
Review 33:Nothing.
Review 34:Excellent food both at breakfast and evening meal, really good menu selection; friendly and helpful staff. Very clean, well presented and comfortable room.
Review 35:Would have liked brighter bedroom lighting for reading
Review 36:Great friendly helpful and courteous staff. Quiet but pleasant surroundings. Easy access to room at all times. Good food. Lovely large and fluffy towels. Plenty od hot water.
Review 37:A couple of staff in restaurant lacked any kind of sense of humour Need low level music in the evenings
Review 38:Lovely views and quiet surroundings Clean and comfortable room although quite small Food was fantastic and good value Restaurant and bar very nice but lighting needs to be softened and more sofas for people to sit comfortably Maybe lose pool table to make room
Review 39:Located in a quiet pretty village, The New Inn offered us a clean, modern & warm room with views over the countryside. The staff were very jolly and very friendly. The dining was wonderful - a wide selection of meals to choose from in the evening and a fabulous cooked brekkie in the morning - perfect!
Review 40:The room was small and cramped the bed was far too big for the room. It was difficult to sleep at night due to the constant noise from three exterior wall mounted fans presumably for air conditioning/refrigeration in the room used as a beer cellar. These fans were across the yard directly opposite our room. Delivery vans arrived in the very early hours and the drivers left the engines running sometimes so long it appears they were dallying with the staff.
Review 41:The location, staff and the building itself.
Review 42:There was not much choice at breakfast for those who do not like a cooked meal.
Review 43:The room was large as was the bed. The decor throughout was excellent. The meals in the restaurant were very tasty.
Review 44:Lovely location, first impressions excellent with great parking. The staff welcomed us warmly and were extremely family friendly. The rooms were spotless and spacious. Our evening meal was top notch. All in all, a wonderful start to our holiday.
Review 45:Clean modern accommodation with the best bed we've slept in for a long time. Quality food at an acceptable price and the most helpful staff one could wish for. Full marks to the proprietors although we didn't quite know who they were to thank them personally.
Review 46:Nothing, although a fish on the breakfast menu might have been a plus.
Review 47:Lovely well maintained facilities: everything worked. Cheery and helpful (young, mostly) staff - a real asset. Great food and drink.
Review 48:A quiet location in a small village but near to Dorchester. Very friendly staff and locals. The atmosphere is really warm and welcoming. The room was spotless and very comfortable, with a King size bed. The bathroom was excellent with a good shower, lovely big bath towels and aesthetically pleasing. We ate in the hotel on each of the three nights that we stayed and tried a different dish each night. The quality of the food and the presentation were excellent. The lamb was to die for! All meals are cooked to order so maybe you wait a little longer but it is really worth it. The full English breakfast has a choice and is perfectly cooked, no watery scrambled egg or greasy sausages. My only observation is that the cereals could be more varied. If we ever go to Dorset again we would most certainly stay there and we shall recommend it to our friends.
Review 49:good friendly and small hotel with very friendly staff and good facilities all round. Quiet at night and close to where we wanted to go to for our trip. Easy to park and find.
Review 50:The carpeted floor had long hairs that our 3 year old picked up and played with before we noticed. We also noticed the shower was not well cleaned either.
Review 51:The breakfast was good and the bar man was very friendly. The other staff members were friendly too.
Review 52:A little disappointed with breakfast on the second morning. I'd ordered beans on toast which were only luke warm. They took them away and reheated them in the microwave which turned the bread soggy. Yuk! They were very apologetic and offered to get me something else but the rest of my party had finished....
Review 53:Friendly staff, who couldn't do enough for you!! and fantastic food of an evening. Great choice and ample portion sizes. Complements to the chef!!!
Review 54:A lovely pub, near to Dorchester with good rooms. Very clean and immaculate bathroom which looked newly refurbished. We could hear a gentle murmur of chatter from the pub below, but certainly did not disturb us at all. More of a restaurant pub, with excellent quality food. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 55:That my time staying there was over so quick.
Review 56:The setting for the B + B was excellant, the staff were curtious and helpful. The breakfast menu was very good with a wide choice. Plenty of space in the rooms.
Review 57:While the continental breakfast could have been a little more varied (we did not want to have a full cooked breakfast, which did looked fine), the coffee, toast and locally made marmalade were delicious.
Review 58:The New Inn is well located in a peaceful friendly village for exploring Dorset. Evening meals were excellent, service very good and the staff very warm and obliging.
Review 59:I booked two beds months ahead. At check-in, they only had one double bed. My son was not pleased about sharing a bed with me :( The staff said it's Booking.com's fault.
Review 60:Scenic surrounding.Very friendly staff. Pleasing dining room and bar.
Review 61:Could possibly have had a net curtain or blind in our room as it overlooked the lane and the house opposite!
Review 62:Excellent atmosphere, welcoming and charming staff, and excellent food. A real find, we will certainly stay again if we need a B and B in that area! Beautiful old coaching inn in a pretty setting.
Review 63:Not a lot of options on the breakfast menu, there's also a dog that lives there! Was not aware of this beforehand until I came down for breakfast one morning!
Review 64:I liked the room and WiFi access was very speedy! The breakfast was good too! The location is not far from durdle door at all!
Review 65:We received a friendly welcome and all the staff took the trouble to know who we were and to make us feel at home. Both the comfort of the rooms and the excellent food contributed to a very enjoyable stay.
Review 66:The Coach House was smelly- we reported this smell to staff also noisy in this room as above where the smokers were standing outside of the bar area
Review 67:Friendly Staff
Review 68:Not very flexible check in times, cooked breakfast fine but cold buffet very poor selection not good value for money, fruit selection was awful, expected better for the price. Bed was a double made up of two singles joined together which was uncomfortable.
Review 69:Cooked breakfast Friendly staff
Review 70:Nothing. Only minor issue was that we couldn't connect to the wifi with the password. Not a big deal so we didn't even mention it.
Review 71:Beautiful room and ensuite. Impeccably clean. Friendly and efficient staff. Cracking view over rolling farmland out the back. Quiet location. Lovely breakfast.
Review 72:Wifi was rubbish and phone reception not much better. Wait staff at the evening meal could have been more attentive. Were really rubbish the first night.
Review 73:Food was absolutely first class when you got it. Four star. Room was great, with everything you needed plus heaps of parking. We would stay there again but dont take your mobile phone.
Review 74:The bathroom was a little small.
Review 75:This is a wonderful inn with very friendly and helpful staff. The food is as good as I've had anywhere, both breakfast and evening meals. We spent six nights touring Dorset but always made sure we got back for our meals. I can't praise this inn enough and we would definitely stay there again, if we were in Dorset.
Review 76:Nothing actually......would have loved to stay longer instead of just one night.
Review 77:What a great place to stay! The Inn is as well the local restaurant and bar. at first we wanted to go into Dorchester for having dinner, but after seeing the menu decided to try the restaurant. Very happy we did so! The beds are very comfortable and big in comparison to other inns we've stayed at.
Review 78:On arrival it was apparent that there was a shortage of staff as the'manager' was dashing around like a 'mad march hare'and was unable to give his full attention to greeting new stayingguests. Being locked out of the main reception/bar/restaurantin the morning was totally unacceptable. The door was only unlockedafter repeated banging on the locked door, a staff member didapologise, but with a poor excuse! The initial information given bymyself on booking was not noted which caused some difficulty for myguest as well as myself.
Review 79:The evening meal was very good, service could have been better,.(morestaff would have made a great difference) Breakfast menu was only forcooked food, no cereal or porridge - it is not everyone who can toleratecooked food first thing in the morning!
Review 80:The duvet was far too warm for a night in July. Because we were too hot we had an awful night's sleep. Different people expect different levels of warmth in bed but when the duvet is too thick there is nothing you can do to cool down. At least if the duvet is light-weight, an extra blanket can be added. Also the emergency exit light over the bedroom door (inside the bedroom) was very bright. It illuminated the bedroom with a green light which was unpleasant and made it even harder to get back to sleep once we had woken up because of being too warm.
Review 81:The shower was excellent. We had a very nice meal in the pub.
Review 82:We were an extended family group and took six rooms and even more came for dinner. Stacy organised our stay well and managed to sort out separate billing for each rooms accomodation and food
Review 83:Exceptionally friendly young staff - a real credit to themselves, let alone anywhere they may choose to work. Fantastic meal in the restaurant - top quality lamb. Room comfortable and very clean.
Review 84:Power point for kettle under dressing table.A bit impractical.
Review 85:Location central to Hardy country. Excellent cooked breakfast and good pub dining in the evening if required.
Review 86:I believe there should be a grab handle in the shower. Also it should be disclosed when booking the outside staircase to the rooms for the less able.
Review 87:Room fabulous but would recommend a grab handle in the shower. Staff superb.
Review 88:Very good location away from the hustle and bustle of the coast but within easy access to a variety of different resorts. Hotel very clean and food is excellent. Breakfast and dinner were plentiful, freshly cooked and to a high standard. The staff were very helpful, efficient, pleasant and eager to please. Rooms were clean and well presented. Certainly deserves a return visit!
Review 89:It is only a small note but our cooked breakfasts took a considerable time to be served and were quite small (ie one rasher of bacon, one fried egg etc) however this did not detract from our stay.
Review 90:We really liked the room as it was modern and clean with a comfortable bed. There were also plenty of tea/coffee items in the room. The bathroom was a good size with lovely fresh towels. Dinner was lovely with a good selection of wines - husband was happy with the selection of ales too! The hotel is located well off the main road and the area is very quiet. However it is only 10 minutes from Monkey World which was ideal as that was the purpose of our trip.
Review 91:Had booked a family room, arrived to discover given a double room split into a twin. Room very small, that's why we booked a family room! If you didn't know the area, or did not have access to a GPS there is no way tourists would find this hotel.
Review 92:Staff pleasant.
Review 93:Breakfast is great if you are a full English kind of person. If not then there is nothing but very ordinary cereals and toast with some very sweet home made preserves. I resorted to taking my own fruit into breakfast which is not what one expects to have to do when on a B&B tariff.
Review 94:Our very clean and comfortable room overlooked open fields at the rear of the Inn. It was so peaceful. The food in the re furnished restaurant was excellent and there was a good selection of beers and wines.
Review 95:Nothing really, except that my large husband couldn't really wash in the small handbasin, thats all though!
Review 96:Staff friendliness, wonderful top quality food
Review 97:Would be better if the hours for checking in and out were more flexible. Breakfast only up to 9am a bit early, check out 10am also very early, particularly for late risers! Wifi did not work in room, but ok downstairs.
Review 98:The room was very comfortable, Food very good and generally a good atmosphere - idyllic walking area, peaceful location.
Review 99:Was charged a different price to what was advertised on booking.com but was resolved straight away when I showed them my email. My room was at the front of inn so could of done with net curtains as was overlooked by road and entrance to pub so when I got changed had to shut the curtains.
Review 100:Room was lovely with toiletries plenty of tea coffee hot chocolate and biscuits.Bed was comfy and shower lovely and hot.Evening meal was very nice and priced right for standard of food.Breakfast was very good
Review 101:The only thing I didn't enjoy was the tea but I did mention and its your own taste so not really a complete.
Review 102:perfect location, we went to the tank museum,Corfe Castle ,Lulworth cove all with in easy reach. When we arrived at The New Inn we were well impressed and in a , lovely village very helpful staff. we ate in the restaurant which was delicious and had a drink in the bar too before retiring to a comfy bed and lovely room. We only stayed one night as we were showing famiy from Australia around Dorset they enjoyed it too, we will stay there again.
Review 103:New Inn is probably better suited to leisure than business customers although staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to provide me with a table for working.
Review 104:Quiet, beautiful and easily accessible location Comfortable room
Review 105:The food was very very good , The full English breakfast was the best we have ever and the staff were extremely friendly and polite , the room was well equipped , very clean and comfortable with a huge bed
Review 106:I always like to balance with the would have been better if........ But can't think of a single thing.
Review 107:All the staff were fabulous, friendly welcoming and helpful. Room was clean and well decorated. Food was excellent so I ate there every evening. Location is superb slightly off the track but close enough to towns and attractions.
Review 108:Very helpful and efficient staff when checking in. Nice size room. Comfy bed. Lovely evening meal. Booked again for next week. Happy to recommend to colleagues
Review 109:The check in time was later than we would have liked but we received a friendly welcome when the inn opened. The shower was difficult to use and took a while to warm up.
Review 110:It was pleasant to stay in the natural rural location. The food was excellent and service was good throughout. The room was nicely furnished and very confortable
Review 111:The staff were very friendly and accommodating especially towards our 2yr old. We stayed in a family room which was more like a suite (I was expecting a fold away bed in the corner of the room not a seperate twin bedroom). Lovely views too.
Review 112:Breakfast was excellent (fruit juice, cereal and/or full English) but there was no toast or croissants or similar.
Review 113:Great first impressions, everywhere looked smart and clean. Staff very informative and took bookings for dinner and breakfast immediately. Food was superb, spoilt for choice!
Review 114:We are currently travelling around the UK and this has been our favourite place to stay, so much so that we booked for an extra night. The staff were always warm and cheerful and made us feel very comfortable. The meals were delicious.
Review 115:This inn exceeded our expectations in all aspects. The location is very quiet in a small rural village overlooking open fields. The traditional village inn has been thoughtfully extended to give spacious and comfortable accommodation. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the inn provides a good and varied menu prepared to a very high standard. We will definitely stay here again.
Review 116:We stayed in The Coach House above the pub which was immaculate, spacious and with a very big and comfy bed! Staff were really friendly and helpful. West Knighton a beautiful little village
Review 117:On arrival mid afternoon we found the place totally deserted. Everything was closed, all doors were locked.
Review 118:Parking was good. Easy access to surrounding places of interest.
Review 119:No entry to building or reception staff on duty until 5.30pm. Had to get assistance from kitchen staff to access our room. A better choice of breakfast for people not requiring hot food.
Review 120:Good room, although fairly small, and ensuite in Art Deco style. Very friendly waiting on staff. Excellent evening meals.
Review 121:Stayed in the coach house and it was great...it is NOT above the kitchen, it is above a drive through to the parking....there was NO noise, WIFI was excellent, NO problem with the TV, very friendly and helpful staff, and great food and NOT expensive as some said... would highly recommend.
Review 122:Room above bar was very noisy until 1230 am. Room not ideal for people unless they plan to be up late. We planned to be up at 6 for a cycling event & as such the room didn't provide us with what we needed. The website didn't stipulate that rooms above the bar exist & that they would be noisy well into the night.
Review 123:Room was good, staff seemed good
Review 124:One of the rooms, the Coach House, is located above the kitchen area which can be noisy on occassions, especially early morning.
Review 125:Lovely and clean with modern facilities and excellent staff.
The Fine Print
