Reviews for Bluebird Lodge
Review 1:Basic things that one would expect of an accommodation at this price point were not delivered. For instance, the heating in the bedrooms kept going off at night in the middle of winter. It was extremely difficult to get a steady stream of hot water in either shower. A noisy boiler was placed in one of the bedrooms (instead of in the ceiling perhaps), making it difficult to sleep well there. The main kitchen light blew on the first night, and was replaced by a naked bulb. Service was inconsistent. We were not given shampoo and bath soap, and thought that this was the usual practice. But on our departure, we found that these items were given to the next guest. Other elements made us feel unwelcome. We were greeted by a long list of instructions. We were told to take off our boots BEFORE walking up the stairs to the apartment. This struck us as being very odd for any B&B.
Review 2:The interior decor was sweet and romantic - subdued shades of grey and lilac made for a beautiful and very spacious abode. Kitchen was well equipped.
Review 3:Upon arrival I was greeted by name very pleasantly. We were led up to our room which was beautifully decorated and newly refurbished I wish I had taken photos. This is a perfect spot for a little getaway. So much so that I can't wait to return in the summer. The owner took his duty of care so serious that even when I had the misfortune of a dead battery due to the cold, he helped me jump start. I saw some troubling reviews of the lodge which a can truthfully say are a load of c*ck 'n' bull. This is a wonderful little gem in a beautiful village. Thank you for the great stay. Can't wait to come back
Review 4:Ideal location for just about anything you would wish to do in "The Lakes". Unbeatable service from proprietor and staff. Accommodation and facilities without compromise.
Review 5:Should have been told there were no street lights and we would have taken a torch. Asked for one after the pitch black walk into the village on the first night. No one there to let us in owners had to go out. Although they knew our arrival time. They did email but late on the previous evening..
Review 6:Great views and near the road into Coniston. Owners attentive after a bad start. Clean apartment and beds were very comfortable.
Review 7:Fabulous small hotel. As it was relatively cheap we had the suite which made a large room. Decor lovely. Food lovely and dog friendly. Will definitely stay again.
Review 8:If you book the small double room the private bathroom is not en suite but the price does reflect this.
Review 9:Clean and tidy hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast freshly cooked. Better than many 4 start hotels.
Review 10:My only slight criticism is that perhaps a better shower would make my stay better
Review 11:Location is excellent and Paul was a very welcoming and helpful host. Breakfast was probably the best I've had at any guest house
Review 12:The apartment was nice but the 2nd bedroom has the property boiler and central heating in the bedroom cupboard, which was on until 1am every night. very loud and annoying. Most shockingly though was that there was a rodent which snooped around the apartment while we were sleeping, searching for snacks. On our last night it happened to climb up the mattress and under the duvet covers where my brother in-law and my niece were sleeping. Having mentioned this to the owner, it was met with "Oh, where did you see this rat?" followed by that will be £375 for your stay. No apologies or concern. Possibly due to the fact that said owner knew of the rat before we had arrived. If this was my special needs niece who was then bitten, there would have been no way of her being able to communicate this to us as she is non verbal. If it had been a baby sleeping and been bitten? Then what? Very poorly handled and i will be taking it further and letting "social media" have its say. Not impressed at all. And the owner expects the apartment to be vacuumed and cleaned on departure? Perhaps he should spend more time cleaning his own apartments and work on his marketing skills.
Review 13:Great location, conveniently close to town for groceries, pubs etc, access to other villages and local community activities/sites.
Review 14:The only disturbance came from the noisy plumbing.
Review 15:Quiet location, close to village with plenty of places to eat in the evening, all dog friendly. Hosts provided Super breakfasts and very comfy bed.
Review 16:A few areas are ready for a lick of paint, but we did stay at the end of the summer season, so this is understandable.
Review 17:We stayed for two nights in the king suite. It was spacious, warm and comfortable. Well placed about half a mile out of the village with a lovely view. The owners were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay again.
Review 18:Lodge in a beautiful location. A warm friendly welcome was given. Very clean, lots of attention to detail - everything was supplied, a real home from home.
Review 19:Booking. Com have advertised the room we had as having a shared bathroom, this was not the case, it was a private bathroom just next-door to the room.
Review 20:Such a superb position and lovely hosts with a slap up breakfast too!
Review 21:The Welcoming was very negative all the owner Did was moan about the other Guests made us feel uncomfortable from the start no heating room was cold in the Morning, and the only guest house i have ever stayed at which puts a Closed sign up after 7pm
Review 22:Fantastic Views Coniston is a lovely iconic place to stay
Review 23:Sometimes the hostes can sound rude and abrupt. She didn't even remember us when we have stayed there before...totally no recollection.
Review 24:We all loved the breakfast,
Review 25:The constant noise created by the macerating plumbing system
Review 26:Very Helpful owner and a great location, the breakfast was perfect and parking was right outside the front door.
Review 27:Having to alway be sure the front door was locked was a nuisance. Our room (and I thing it was the only one) had bathroom in a separate room - but I understand that will be corrected.
Review 28:It wasn't hard to find; lots of parking room! Also close to town. The combination lounge-dining room was inviting! Breakfast was hearty.
Review 29:I wouldn't call it a bad experience but his wife or partner, was in my opinion, very brusque, rude, curt, ignorant.
Review 30:every thing very nice, Paul as a host was fabulous, polite, helpful, and nice to talk to, knows how to deal with guests in a proper manner.
Review 31:Our room smelt slightly musty and had obvious damp spot in the corner. We found one of the owners to be friendly and helpful and the other owner not so which didn't make us feel as welcome as other hosts we have met on our travels.
Review 32:Lovely location being close to the lake and farms with wonderful mountain views. The breakfast selection was excellent.
Review 33:Room very light in early morning, curtains ineffective. No mirror available at head height, unless seated, with sufficient lighting. Would have preferred breakfast to finish a little later than 0900
Review 34:Comfortable bed pleasant location. Owner/Manager really friendly , knowledgeable and helpful
Review 35:Other guests were noisy but that wouldnt stop us going again as wasnt the owners fault
Review 36:Wonderfully friendly. Bed super comfortable. Lovely location in peaceful countryside.
Review 37:Lovely place in great location, 5 minute walk to centre. We booked last minute and were pleasantly surprised. Paul was very welcoming, room nicely decorated, breakfast was excellent we would definitely stay again.
Review 38:I found one of the owners quite rude and unaccommodating, I was quite shocked by the way we were spoken to on the phone. Objectively speaking, the double room was just two twin beds pushed together, and it was a small room with paper thin walls. The above I could accept, but it wasn't a cheap stay at over £80/night.
Review 39:Location is just under a mile from Coniston, near to the lake, so it's a nice setting
Review 40:Room a little chilly and bathroom radiator not on as we were unsure where the switch was.
Review 41:Friendly hosts, a lovely spot by the lakeside, comfortable accommodation and a tasty breakfast.
Review 42:I have to say I have not got any complaints or dislikes, we will be booking again.
Review 43:Booked in at the Bluebird Lodge for a weekend away (Fri/Sat)first time visit. Its in an excellent location, about a ten minute walk from the centre of Coniston, so very peaceful and away from the town centre. The hosts were very friendly, informative and more than happy to help. Fantastic full English breakfast, with the most beautiful view of the snow covered Old man. Unfortunately I was not very well due to a chest infection and struggled to do any walking, and for the good part of Saturday afternoon I ended up back in bed, but only after we'd had a trip out to Hawkshead and attempted to do a walk round Grizedale which had to be cut short due to my condition. We went on the Friday night for tea at the Yewdale pub traditional pub grub at a very fair price, and very friendly locals. The the Saturday night we tried The Blackbull, slightly higher priced food but more choice, and a lovely welcome open fire. We stayed in the En-suite Kingsize room which was gorgeously decorated and plenty of storage. We will definitely be booking in here again.Thank you so much for your hospitality x
Review 44:The personal touch to the service. Local knowledge . The guest book also very useful. Tea and coffee & ensuite facility. Unspoilt views from the dinning room.
Review 45:shower could of been better , we would of liked to get into our room earlier
Review 46:Excellent breakfast , comfortable bed , close to Coniston lake ,ten minute walk from the village ,
Review 47:The weather!
Review 48:Great location with many lovely walks straight from the door. The village is just a 5 minutes stroll away on a separate path off the road (no lighting, so have a torch) Coniston has 4 good pubs & a couple of quality cafes for dining. Or there's a hotel with bar & restaurant right next door to the B&B. The accommodation is of a very high standard for the price; rooms are a good size with comfy bed, nice bathroom (spa bath) and good facilities, including free WiFi. Excellent breakfast cooked to order.
Review 49:Good position for the purpose of our visit to the Lakes. Warmly welcomed by Paul. Room very comfortable and clean. Good breakfast.will definitely visit again next year.
Review 50:Not that our hosts could do anything about it but the weather, after such a glorious summer was torrential. "Soaked to the skin" doesn't cover it!
Review 51:We arrived early to do some walking. We were cordially met, handed our key and given the chance to leave our car. When we returned from our walk we found a clean, warm room with a good shower waiting for us. Breakfast was very good. Taking payment was friendly and efficient.
Review 52:Nothing really. Beautiful location, great place to stay. We had a large room with ensuite
Review 53:Centrally located for a range of tourist attractions. Owners were efficient and friendly. I would happily recommend this hotel to friends
Review 54:Nothing at all to dislike but do take a torch if walking back in the dark - the path is separated from the roadway.
Review 55:Large comfortable room with wonderful views. Excellent breakfasts. Helpful & considerate hosts. Short walk (about 0.5 mile) to Coniston village with pubs & cafes etc.
Review 56:thin walls- could hear neighbours in rooms either side of us - was woken up on 2 of our 3 nights - not rowdy just loud voices
Review 57:location, friendliness of owners Deb and Paul, excellent 5* breakfast
Review 58:Our room was a little chilly and the bathroom could have had a more powerful shower. Thats it.
Review 59:We had a wonderful large room and bathroom and welcoming staff. The location was absolutely ideal ... a short walk away from the village and the lake ... and the views were stunning. The B&B served a fantastic breakfast.
Review 60:Needed to stay for longer ...........
Review 61:The staff here , made us very welcome and nothing was a problem for them , they did everything possible to accommodate us .We will defiantly return at some time in the futre :)
Review 62:Room rather small. Owner a little dry but professional. Two sets of keys to get into room. The place felt like a business not a home.
Review 63:Room was very comfortable, great location at the tip of Lake Coniston. Peaceful. Breakfast probably good, but we left too early at 7:30 am.
Review 64:Shared bathroom didn't get cleaned, toilet paper rarely got replenished, bin stayed full. Lady staff member was rude to guests and racist. Shame because without her and a bit more attention to amenities, a chair to sit on in bedroom, then it'd be great.
Review 65:Location is beautiful and peaceful. Room was nice.
Review 66:Loved the bed and en suite, breakfast was generous and served in a room with incredible views. Owners were lovely and very helpful. We will go back :)
Review 67:Although I told them that I didn't need the room cleaned between the two nights they went into the room and moved a t-shirt that was humid to the drier. Moreover, they came later in the evening complaining with us because of not locking the door, when it was not our fault. It was not very pleasant. Finally they charged taxes for the credit card that they hadn't informed us of.
Review 68:The house is very nice.
Review 69:There are no complaints. Everything was brilliant
Review 70:We loved this b&b. Excellent hosts with superb food. They made us feel welcome and looked after. Nothing was too difficult. We cannot recommend they enough. If you are going to the lakes this is THE place to stay
Review 71:The shower curtain over the bath leaked water on the floor when you had a shower, and the towels were small.
Review 72:The room was spacious, the staff friendly, the breakfast good.
Review 73:Having to share a bathroom. But for one night it was no problem
Review 74:Cleanliness of the room. Great selection of food for breakfast. Beautiful location and outlook from our room. Friendly helpful staff/owners
Review 75:The female member of staff that greeted my parents when they arrived for our family gathering, was very unfriendly and made my parents feel as though their arrival was a great inconvenience. By contrast the owner Paul was extremely helpful, friendly and made all of my family feel very welcome.
Review 76:The location was within walking distance of Coniston and the lake ferries. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast which was included was very good. The owner Paul was very helpful and accommodating in meeting our needs during our stay.
