Reviews for Waverley Inn

Review 1:Before I leave my comments I should point out that it was winter and also over new year. The pub had a staff party on our 1st night so I totally appreciate that some of the normal service wasn't given. They were very honest about noise levels on ny eve and left us a continental breakfast for ny day as the pub was closed.. The owners also apologised for noisy guests on the staff party night. My comments are not criticisms but feedback for improvements. I've stayed in some horrid places and the waverley was certainly not horrid The room was cold. I appreciate that the heating was controlled by thermostat depending on the temp of the pub (which when full was very warm) but the electric heaters were not enough The road noise was terrible and the windows rattled in the wind .. I appreciate it's an old building with victorian sash windows. I'm not sure if any improvements can be made and noone can help Road noise really The ceiling in the bathroom needed repairing.. The panel was falling down We went down for breakfast on our 1st morning and although there were people getting breakfast we were not served. Also the tables were dirty.. Again staff party night before so possibly not usual for cleaners not have been in . Having said that if rooms are to be offered over periods/out of season I think the same service should still be there..

Review 2:The owners were friendly and helpful. It was a lovely old building The bed was comfortable and there were tea/coffee making facilities in the room Plenty of clean towels The TV was huge and had all digital channels The wardrobe and drawer space was big I loved the lobby area leading into the room

Review 3:There was a smell of cigarette smoke in my room and I couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from as everything in the room was clean. The water pressure from the shower was very poor. However, we didn't expect 5* luxury when we were only paying £40 per night per single room including a full English breakfast.

Review 4:The owners and all the staff couldn't have been nicer. They made us feel really welcome. The bed was comfortable and there was tea and coffee in the rooms. The pub itself is lovely, old and quaint with an open fire. On Saturday evening they had a live band which we really enjoyed. If we lived locally we would pop in there on a Saturday evening. We were given a set of keys and were able to come and go as we pleased. I think that bearing in mind the price it's very good value for money. We would stay again and really hope that the new owners do well as they deserve to, they were a really nice couple.

Review 5:Nice old pub with very friendly owners & staff. Nice ambience & great home cooked food & can also recommend very well kept beer !! I was made to feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble & will definitely use again if visiting IOW..

Review 6:Very cold. No heating in December. Dirty carpets. Lumpy bed. Blind could only be operated by standing on a chair. Bed made one day out of four. No clean cups daily. Owners admitted "their service was rubbish". Bedroom door to landing did not fit correctly, hence a fire risk. Breakfast service was very poor (apart from one day), we had to ask for cereals, dishes spoons and milk.

Review 7:Proprietors live away from the main house and we were interrupted at 2am with guests trying to get in. Carpets could do with updating in the bedrooms and landing and stairs.

Review 8:Traditional style local public house with atmosphere Good breakfast! Very pleasant hosts.

Review 9:Sash window could do with upgrade. Bit chilly

Review 10:Luggage storage Home made food at breakfast Welcoming staff Dvd player included in tv Comfortable bed Access arrangements excellent

Review 11:The waiting around time waiting to be served. Had to make phone call to get attention then when pub shut people were f .swering in The back yard under my window till late.

Review 12:Food was very nice.

Review 13:Noisy - The bar had live music Friday and Saturday so early night for early start not possible + location is at crossroads but pretty quiet after midnight and good breakfast doesn't start 'til 8am anyway.

Review 14:20 minutes from ferry + bar + food + good sleep from midnight + surrounding area and position for rest of island access.

Review 15:noisy location at traffic roundabout ( no double glazing on windows) noise from pub bar underneath poor organisation ( no towel in room, local real ale had run out)

Review 16:near Carisbrooke castle friendly staff

Review 17:There was nothing to dislike other than having to go home

Review 25:Very friendly and accommodating owners. It is a lovely Victorian pub with big comfortable rooms and all you need for a good sleep followed by a freshly made to order breakfast in the morning. We stayed on the open mic night and really enjoyed the music and atmosphere in the pub.

Review 26:Shower had no power to it. We went with a group of 4 and after 2 showers the water went freezing.

Review 28:Made to feel very welcome by all. Excellent food. Great pub with bus stop outside the door. Comfortable room. Highly recommended, I really enjoyed my two night stay. Thanks to all

Review 29:Decor was tired and could do with updating. The property itself is located on a roundabout and traffic get quite busy early in the mornig and this can be quite noisy.

Review 30:Staff were good with a friendly helpful attitude. Food was good both at breakfast and from the menu.

Review 31:Staff were very accommodating, always aiming to make my life easier and more comfortable, even without me asking for it. Genuinely felt like a home away from home.

Review 32:The only problem was the situation of our room as it overlooked the crossroads and was therefore very noisy. It is also above the kitchen so a very pungent smell of cooked cabbage the first evening!! The bathroom also had an extremely loud plumbing system when flushing the loo or running water! So try not to get room 4! I'm sure the others would be fine...........

Review 40:The pub/hotel is a little shabby, but this is made up for by the helpful friendly staff. The menu is typical pub food and was tasty and well presented. The new owners are working hard to upgrade the building. Good value for money. Despite location at road junction it was quiet overnight. We will stay here again.
