Reviews for The Mount Somerset
Review 1:Breakfast service was very slow and lacked the enthusiasm of the evening staff. This could have been down to the fact that it was between Christmas and New year.
Review 2:Comfortable room. Excellent evening meal served by extremely jolly and efficient waiter.
Review 3:We were woken at 7 am by the staff talking to each other in the reception area. They clearly didn't realise that they could be heard by guests in the rooms at the top of the main staircase. The shower area needs a bit of TLC..
Review 4:Nice location, good food friendly staff good dinning experience. Comfy bed.
Review 5:No concierge to help with luggages.
Review 6:Beautiful country side. Very green and fresh air. We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant....good food and service.
Review 7:Metal stairs outside our room with laundry person stomping up and down at 6.30am on the only morning we had to sleep in in over three weeks.
Review 8:Beautiful building and lovely service. Could have stayed longer.
Review 9:The evening meal was very nice but it did not change much over the three days we were there,a disappointment to me I expected more choice
Review 10:The Hotel was very nice and in a good area for day trips out
Review 11:Beautiful large room with excellent decoration and few nices touches (fruit/homemade biscuits/nespresso/machine). Evening dinner and breakfast were excellent. Staff were also very attentive.
Review 12:Maybe slightly too quiet at dinner time for a small child!! We didn't feel comfortable letting him run around or anything not that the staff made us feel this way, it was probably out of courtesy to the other guests!
Review 13:Amazing hotel and staff!! We got upgraded to a larger room which was huge and felt more like a suit!! Dinner staff couldn't of done more for us either! Will definitely come back!
Review 14:Ordered a cab which arrived half an hour late, so I was late for a business appointment. A quality hotel like this should have a much more reliable cab firm.
Review 15:Almost without exception, the staff were very keen to help.
Review 16:Being charged for a double occupancy as I had a guest visiting for acouple of hours and who I had dinner with. This charge was much more theadvertised double occupancy rate and did not make any sense.Nothing else particularly
Review 17:Beautiful surroundings. Lovely grounds to walk around.Restaurant was understated and elegant and staff pleasant & attentive. Food was very good and served well. Room was upgraded to the suite and was splendid. Luxuriously comfort bed, one of the best I have slept in ! SPA Made use of the sauna, steam room. The hydro pool was filling till 10am. The other advertised experience shower didn't work
Review 18:Service outside was a little and confused.
Review 19:Very comfortable and rooms are updated to a high standard. Outside seating area beautiful and very relaxing.
Review 20:The food in the restaurant was not up to scratch for £35 per head. When we returned a portion of lamb which was all fat, we were told in a patronising term that it was the cut of meat. We eat in enough high quality restaurants to know this, but not to degree we were served. It was no more really than a "posh" sunday dinner so will eat out in future, but would stay again
Review 21:Beautiful hotel, helpful staff and great room
Review 22:I was disappointed by the main course of the dinner and had the misfortune to have a table next to a very noisy hen party!
Review 23:The staff, particularly in the bar and restaurant, were outstanding
Review 24:No lift. Location was far from Taunton than planned, and no hikes or long walks due to one lane street system.
Review 25:Room was well appointed, comfortable, modern, tasteful. The gardens and views delighted. The dinner room service excellent. The staff very helpful and kind.
Review 26:A pool would have been a very welcome edition to the spa.
Review 27:The house is in a beautiful setting. The interiors are impressive. The food was delicious. We enjoyed the spa treatments.
Review 28:Our suite was amazing, we booked this for our wedding night wanting somewhere special, it was a great place to stay, lovely surroundings, friendly and welcoming staff even at midnight when we arrived, the suite was all we could of hoped for, the bathroom was as big as a room. Would love to stay here again one day. A special place for a special occasion.
Review 29:1) Stayed four nights, received my requested newspaper at door only the first morning. 2) Perhaps they were Easter temps, but the breakfast crew overlooked details. The worst problem was a pitcher of grapefruit juice that was fermented (fizzy). Presumably the same juice had been placed on the serving table for several days, perhaps simply topped off instead of replaced. 3) due to a handicap I needed to use the lift to the first floor. It had not been cleaned for months...dirt and dust in the grooves of the floor. 4) Generally overpriced
Review 30:Very comfortable and spacious room (Trull) Quiet and bucolic site
Review 31:I'm in the middle of a cycle training programme and the gym bike was broken :(
Review 32:The hotel and staff were all excellent , the food and service were fantastic and the breakfast was top notch .
Review 33:Bed was a little too soft but realise this is personal preference. Will stay here again if in area - no contest.
Review 34:Everything. Nothing to complain about.
Review 35:Ordered a bar meal. soup turned up with my main course. Never had starter and main at the same time before
Review 36:Excellent hotel. Incredibly friendly staff and v.good food. Spa was good
Review 37:Room service was limited, wine list was poor and wasn't well stocked, the waiting staff particularly the room service staff were very nice, but not trained at all to serve food or wine.
Review 38:Size of room, the bed was very comfortable, a large spacious bathroom with shower and bath and they are one of the few places that provide room service. Restaurant was good and generally well decorated throughout. Good value.
Review 39:Can't think of anything I didn't like!
Review 40:The hotel was superb, from the warm welcome to the ease of checking out. The staff have a great attitude and nothing is to much trouble.
Review 41:Would be great to have a pool in the spa which had a brilliant steam room
Review 42:This beautiful mansion has a show stopping staircase and elegant rooms. My classic room was huge with a comfortable king size bed. Fab steak and they made a sauce when I asked. Home smoked salmon for breakfast and fresh berries to start. Cheaper than the chains on the motorway. Fab experience. Very helpful staff.
Review 43:Cannot think of anything.
Review 44:Staff were brilliant and the food was excellent, really enjoyed our stay. Loved the additional touches - fruit and sweets in room.
Review 45:If there were space, a pool would be a great addition to the spa.
Review 46:The comfort of the rooms; the excellent spa treatment; the standard of the food; the staff, their professionalism, friendliness and helpfulness; the beautiful location.
Review 47:none
Review 48:Great service - friendly, professional staff. Nice room. I had a double room but it was really spacious. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Nice grounds.
Review 49:Too far from Exmoor Dreadful breakfasts and disinterested restaurant staff Unable to offer cocktails in smart bar Expensive pretentious dinner, (but well executed) Expensive spa but no pool
Review 50:Located on southern edge of Taunton, and handy to M5, but needs SatNav to find it. Smart comfortable room Friendly reception and housekeeping Pleasant grounds Very dog friendly
Review 51:Very small criticism - there was a little bit of dust on some of the picture frames and mirrors in our room. It just took a little of the edge off the glamour, which was a shame.
Review 52:Staff were amazing - so polite and helpful. The spa was very relaxing and exactly why we chose the hotel. We went for one of the more basic rooms, but even this felt luxurious and we were very comfortable.
Review 53:Our room was near the staircase and noise travels into the room. I had to ask the front desk staff to stop talking so loud.
Review 54:The staff were very polite and friendly.
Review 55:The lamb my wife had was over-cooked. She was told it would be pink. There was also very little meat on the lamb, which is perhaps why it was over-cooked.
Review 56:Service, rooms and almost all the food was truly excellent. The liver pate served just before the meal was exquisite. Pleased that you had sp facilities but we did not get the chance to use them on this occasion.
Review 57:Nothing
Review 58:Everything. I've stopped in many top class hotels and this one is special. It felt like home after a day, a very pleasant and luxurious home with lovely staff!
Review 59:I thought there would be a swimming pool and leisure facilities.
Review 60:I enjoyed the comfort and relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very efficient and helpful.
Review 61:Need to update their pillows!
Review 62:Lovely location and spa is really enjoyable
Review 63:Personal touches and helpful staff Very clean and well maintained Beautiful grounds
Review 64:very relaxing, great spa, staff very helpful. one of the most memorable hotels stayed at all year, and I have stayed at a lot.
Review 65:Clean and tidy quiet rooms. Excellent full English breakfast. Good hotel for business users.
Review 66:A comfy lounge with open fires
Review 67:Wonderful warm welcome from Natiysha after tiring journey. Beautiful hotel and the food is excellent.
Review 68:Nothing!
Review 69:Location is stunning, rooms luxurious, staff excellent, and food delicious
Review 70:Fantastic service and wonderful food
Review 71:Convenient location and beautiful surroundings. Rooms was comfortable and food excellent.
Review 72:Our room has no garden view n overlooking a roof
Review 73:Magnificent hotel ...
Review 74:Comfortable
Review 75:Black mould in the showers of both rooms and the bath waste leaked so that all the water just ran away.
Review 76:The Staff were very helpful.
Review 77:Food was standard, nothing at fault but not up to two rosette standard. No Swimming Pool
Review 78:Staff were lovely
Review 79:Restaurant staff were all learning on the job, which was very evident by mistakes made and obvious inexperience
Review 80:Non restaurant staff
Review 81:Breakfast, Raw mushrooms & tomatoes. Eggs need to be cooked longer.
Review 82:Beautiful surroundings, excellent dinner.
Review 83:There was nothing I didn't like
Review 84:The evening meal was really good.
Review 85:Very warm welcome - staff extremely polite and friendly at all times.
Review 86:None
Review 87:The building with careful preservation of original features of house
Review 88:Staff were excellent and very helpful. From room service up to and including the Manager. The Breakfast was a delight. I would love to stay again.
Review 89:The only thing I can say is that the bed I slept in was quite squeaky.
Review 90:The food!!
Review 91:the bed and breakfast
Review 92:the bathroom
Review 93:Great Breakfast and Evening Dining. Plenty of Parking and Efficient Staff. Made a nice end to the day after Taunton Races. Will return.
Review 94:Good food and superb gardens and view. Bed was a bit soft for us, but still a good nights sleep.
Review 95:Food prices-Recent increase?
Review 96:Excellent StaffRecent significant price increase for food
Review 97:Excellent facilities and very pleasant staff. Food was sublime
Review 98:Food hotel and staff were all very good
Review 99:Restaurant was a bit of a rip off. High prices but bland food.
Review 100:Pretty countryside, nice room, very nice staff. Nice bathroom and shower.
Review 101:Comfortable room, excellent dinner and breakfast.
Review 102:Room very dusty especially on top of the wardrobe, staff at breakfast took 4 times to ask for order, and no black pudding for 3 days we were there. Fried breakfast swimming in grease and poached eggs covered in water, such a shame as the evening meal was fantastic.
Review 103:Evening meal excellent. Amazing views, comfortable beds
Review 104:My only complaint would be the guest who was having a loud conversation on his phone at reception area at 11pm as I was trying to get to sleep.
Review 105:Large, well lit, clean room. Beautiful grounds and conveniently located for the M5. Did not use spa facilities. Would love to return with my partner for a weekend break.
Review 106:We had dinner in the restaurant, food good but not exceptional, staff friendly but needed to be a little more professional . I think they were short staffed for a Saturday night
Review 107:Beautiful building and gardens the suite was quite small but pretty, and the bathroom to die for, I would happily take it home !! Breakfast was very good.
Review 108:My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at this beautifully presented hotel. It was such a pleasant experience all the staff were friendly and extremely helpful . We would recommend this hotel to our friends and family and would also consider returning.
Review 109:Heating was not working in the bar and dining room. There was a fire lit in the afternoon but not in the evening and it was cold.
Review 110:Fabulous building, lovely bedroom and attractive gardens
Review 111:Having to walk outside in the rain (and there was lots of very heavy rain and high winds when I stayed!) to access Spa and Gym was a negative.
Review 112:Excellent, attentive staff who were really helpful at responding to dietary needs - lots of options for gluten free, and staff very willing to find out ingredients. Kitchen very responsive and I would recommend to anyone with food intolerances
Review 113:Nothing. However, there were not many residents when we were there, but if there had been, the spa would not have been easy to use as it is very small. Perfect for just small numbers but for such a huge hotel, it seemed very small. Same issue for the gym, but with it being quiet, it was perfect for us.
Review 114:The room we had was stunning and the bathroom was beautiful. The decor throughout was lovely and elegant. Staff were very professionally and everyone took notice of us and had a chat. We had the A la Carte meal that was wonderful and breakfast in the conservatory was nice. The bar area had open fires and that was nice when the weather was so bad outside. Parking was sooooo easy too. Used the spa and the gym.
Review 115:Imposing, beautiful building in the delightful Somerset countryside. The hotel was warm, welcoming and extremely tastefully furnished. Rooms were large and spacious and provided a real feeling of relaxation and wellbeing.
Review 116:When I arrived there was no remote for the television this took 35 minutes to resolve. The Wi-Fi was non-existence and this was very disappointing especially as I paid £170 for bed and breakfast and was promised " High powered Wi-Fi". Not good enough!
Review 117:I particularly liked the setting and the building. The rooms were tastefully furnished.the en-suite was impressive and functional. The bed was comfortable
Review 118:Staff could do with more training. Egg and bacon arrived with no egg. Then bacon in edible. Drinks poorly served. Glasses and crockery like a station buffet. Menu poor not value for money. Did not use spa as on family visit. Lacked finesse all round on catering. I hope it improves as close proximity to our son an asset.
Review 119:House and grounds attractive and the room and bathroom comfortable. Tea and biscuits appreciated after long journey. Did not recognise name on toiletries.
Review 120:Having to leave
Review 121:Fantastic from start to finish Staff were lovely Location was perfect Sitting in the main reception room drinking tea just relaxing was exactly what we needed Definitely go back
Review 122:My husbands breakfast was sent back twice because it was not cooked.
Review 123:we loved the setting and the staff were very friendly our room was beautiful the hotel decor was lovely.
Review 124:On arrival there was a trainee receptionist who didn't appear that comfortable in the role and couldn't really answer my queries. My room was very warm even with the windows open!
Review 125:It was a luxurious place to escape to in a beautiful setting. Whilst I didn't have opportunity to use the spa facilities, I did have two treatments which were fabulous and the staff were brilliant. There was an excellent receptionist who arranged for me to have breakfast in bed which was a wonderful treat.
Review 126:Only there for one night - which was very comfortable. Toast came as soon as we sat down and was cold by the time breakfast was brought. A VERY minor comment.
Review 127:We came with 2 dogs and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate
Review 128:To be picky the interior design is trying a bit too hard and the rooms get hot in the summer, but we would definitely stay again!
Review 129:An attractive building with lovely entrance hall and stairs. We particularly enjoyed the gym, spa and croquet on the lawn.
Review 130:Evening meal prices are extortionate - fixed prices of £75, £55 or £35 per person unless you eat off the (limited) bar menu. One of the staff seemed very inexperienced serving drinks and we were charged for drinks we didn't have, but the charge was removed without question.
Review 131:The setting and appearance are superb. Fantastic huge, huge room and extremely clean. Overall very helpful and friendly staff. We stayed here as a journey-breaker on the way back from Cornwall - it was cheaper than a Travelodge and a thousand times better!
