Reviews for Stoneybeck Inn

Review 1:Woken by noises from Loud ? Generator/ heating at4am Stopped after20mins. But disturbing. Seated too close to only other diners in restaurant pm Disappointed by this as we were unable to enjoy our meal it was not a situation that we could ask to change.

Review 2:Very convenient to M6 good food well served. Breakfast excellent!

Review 3:Our room was not serviced. Discount offered but staff handled it badly initially. Several other poor aspects. Travel Lodge standard at country house price.

Review 4:The dining area is cold and impersonal, not what is expected from a country hotel. The room had a sewage smell.

Review 5:The food was good, and it is conveniently situated

Review 6:Everything was great there was nothing we didn't like about our stay

Review 7:Me and my partner stayed in the Eden suite for one night was lovely very clean and romantic with a big deep bath. The staff were welcoming and the food was fantastic

Review 8:the standard of bed was poor compared with Premier Inn etc, so won't recommend anyone to stay there. No windows opened in room, certainly low value at £89

Review 9:Food and staff

Review 10:There was nothing about Stoneybeck inn we did not like.

Review 11:The room was fabulous. The restaurant had a good selection of beautiful food. The location is great for the lakes, Carlisle or Northumberland.

Review 12:I didn't like that my room was classed as a luxury ( what ever the words they used ) I have seen better in the travel lodge & I they were bigger . The room was also disconnected to the hotel like an added on building . The smell outside the hotel was horrendous . Sour Milk . If you use your sat NAV do not put postcode in as it takes you elsewhere . Put the name of the hotel in . The staff were lovely though so made up for disappointment of room & the smell .. Knocked me sick .

Review 13:I liked the initial hotel

Review 14:1. Food doesn't really live up to the description on the menu, e.g crispy coating on fish and chips, but on cutting into it, it was soggy. Mushy peas and also the chutney with cheese board both really awful

Review 15:Liked the accessabilty of the room (Annex) Staff very helpful and friendly

Review 16:Instructions on how to get here could be better, sat nav takes you round the back!

Review 17:Good for getting into the Lake District, access to al areas using good road links.

Review 18:No bar stools but that's probably being a bit picky as don't think it is a place to get really drunk in

Review 19:Staff very friendly and good for a laugh , food excellent rooms very clean , drinks very reasonable for a hotel like this

Review 20:Room was a little too warm.

Review 21:Great hotel, ideal location, quiet, good parking, fabulous meals, staff great. Malvin made best coffee I'd had in five weeks , a flat white NZ style, strong with velvety milk (except a Barons Court cafe). Breakfast fabulous, dinner top notch, venison with bitter chocolate sauce, divine.

Review 22:The first breakfast was excellent. The second indifferent. Tea was available self service using tea bags and hot water in a jug. Coffee was in a thermos jug. The cooked dishes slow to be served. Disappointing.

Review 23:The location. The excellent standard of the accommodation. The quality of the dinners.

Review 24:Close proximity to main road potentially a noise problem - quiet at night though.

Review 25:Great staff - attentive without being intrusive. Brilliant room - clean and comfortable - very modern bathroom. Food excellent - plus generous and very well prepared and presented breakfast. Warm relaxed ambience. Highly recommended.

Review 26:Stayed here for one night on the way home and this place is a little gem the quality of the fixtures and fittings are first class as are the staff, thank you for an enjoyable stay

Review 27:The smell in the annex room, I suggest the furniture be changed. Just down the road is an antique place where you could possibly replace the furniture .

Review 28:Room clean & tidy, staff helpful and cheerful, breakfast great all locally sourced.

Review 29:Nothing to dislike really. Since we didn't have a car, if this was a bit nearer to the town centre that would have been great. But for travellers with Cars no complaints really !

Review 30:We were treated very warmly. Lunch, Dinner and breakfast all were just brilliant and sumptuous.

Review 31:Lovely modern room, good value restaurant and a great breakfast. Very pleasant and obliging staff. Conveniently located for the M6 but far enough away not to hear it. Really nice stopover.

Review 32:This survey: My comment in #4 below, "middle to upper-middcle class" keeps getting deleted, about 5 times now. Bad coding.

Review 33:Hook for robe and clothes in bathroom. Food. Cleanliness Quiet. No smoking No faux luxury (which I find obnoxious)

Review 34:There was a smell in the Bedroom. Could not decide whether it was damp or a smell of Dog. The Bar man was extremely rude. He was also the waiter for Dinner .When we arrived he told us very rudely to wait over there. the Entry was immediately opposite the Bar. .

Review 35:Not a lot. Bathroom very small with a shower squeezed in the Corner. No window or ventilation in Bathroom.

Review 36:We stayed in the Blencathra suite which was a bit smaller than we were expecting. The shower was also a bit tricky to use and the water temperature wasn't always consistent. Overall it was a bit expensive for what it was (our trip coincided with a festival which might explain the price!)

Review 37:The staff were really accommodating, they really couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast was really tasty! It was a lovely place to stay, very clean and modern.

Review 38:Would have liked a full length mirror in room and additional lamp in bedroom next to dressing table but these are very minor points.

Review 39:Staff were very friendly, the bed was extremely comfortable and the food in the restaurant was excellent.

Review 40:Food besides breakfast was a bit pretentious.

Review 41:Very good facilities and rooms, recently updated. Great breakfast and a good location for seeing all the Lake District has to offer.

Review 42:Room too cramped for two people and we are not big people. Dinner menue was not what we expected, Having just spent 6 nights in an hotel in Argyle Scotland where the menue was of similar length but offered many more acceptable dishes.

Review 43:Close to motorway and breakfast quite good.

Review 44:Room 1, fantastic with a great bathroom, all very modern. Dinner was marvellous - scallops were perfect & the chef did great things with hake & sea bass. Breakfast - the best in a long time. We are going back ASAP!

Review 45:Allocated the Skiddaw room which is described as 'luxury double'. Whilst spotlessly clean and comfortable it was very small for two people and had a very strange stale odour.

Review 46:Quiet, staff pleasant, very clean.

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:Friendly helpful staff, good bar & restaurant serving good food at reasonable prices. Good size room with modern shower room. No bath in our room which was ok for us. Stopped over for one night on our way to Scotland from London, perfect choice 2 mins from M6.

Review 49:Food excellent and accommodation great with quiet rooms. Staff and owners were extremely friendly and good fun, would definitely go back again and recommend it.

Review 50:Duvets too heavy on beds in warm weather. This is a common problem with most hotels but no one seems to solve!

Review 51:Pleasant helpful staff and reasonable prices

Review 52:A bit chilly in room and public areas probably because heating was set for summer and weather unseasonably cold.

Review 53:Easy to find, excellent staff, exceptionally clean room and public areas. Superb breakfasts and dinners.

Review 54:Bedroom was lovely but needed a chair, not just a stool. Breakfast service was rather slow.

Review 55:Lovely room and bathroom - very modern. Enjoyable evening meal. Pleasant staff.

Review 56:The staff were welcoming. The room was beautifully furnished. The room was quiet/sound proof to some extent. Restaurant with great food was a bonus.

Review 57:We would have have liked a chair in the bedroom, but there is not the space for one. Little disappointed there was not haddock or kippers on the breakfast menu.

Review 58:We loved the choice of the dinner menu. Staff were friendly and very helpful

Review 59:The food was lovely, made with love. Staff were very personable and we could feel the family connection. The four poster bed room was very comfortable, a lovely way to start our holiday after a 20 hour flight.

Review 60:The staff were very welcoming and showed great care- especially as we arrived late due to traffic problems and organised an evening meal for us. All the staff made the stay enjoyable. We are looking forward to statying again and recommend you to our friends.

Review 61:The manager seemed upset when we didnt eat at the adjoining restaurant for our evening meal, a little out of the way of everywhere.

Review 62:quiet, nice comfortable bed, lovely facilities and nice bathroom

Review 63:there was no heating in the dining room, lounge or bedrooms, the fire was stocked with logs it was a very cold May, I do not like cold restaurants

Review 64:the staff are great really helpful, great food comfortable bed clean room

Review 65:An excellent stopover point when travelling north. The room was newly decorated and furnished and very comfortable. The menufor dinner was adventurous and tasty. The breakfast was freshly prepared and set you up for the journey ahead. Couldn't fault it.

Review 66:As guests checking get in we were a great inconvenience to the barman. Breakfast server wiped his nose with hand while showing us to table - enough to put anyone off their breakfast. Otherwise breakfast ok.

Review 67:Good shower. Clean, though very small room and small bed.

Review 68:Asked for table for dinner at 8 but not reserved and waited until 8.30 for table and 9 for meal. Staff v apologetic and refunded cost of drinks and puds. Flask of hot water for tea at breakfast, but brought pot when requested.

Review 69:Comfortable room, convenient location just off M6. Evening meal was nice.

Review 70:The duvet was heavy and maybe a lighter one is required for summer months. Saying this we opened the window which helped.

Review 71:The Inn was easily accessed from the motorway and was in a great location for cycling. Friendly staff, lovely food and a nice room.

Review 72:All staff from evening and morning were excellent. Show you to your room which is laid out fantastic. Very modern set in the country. Food was fantastic along with the drinks and setting. Again staff helped make you feel welcome and can't rate them highly enough. Travelling between Edinburgh and Manchester, this is at the half way point and all round is perfect to stay over! Class all the way!

Review 73:What's not to like about this location

Review 74:Very clean and tidy lovely staff bathroom spotless no noisy traffic. You get a good night's sleep. Handy for access to motorway and 5 mins to Penrith

Review 75:the staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was plentiful and excellent quality the room was clean and spacious and the bed was so comfortable

Review 76:It was cold in the bar in the evening because they left the door open.

Review 77:The room facilities were very good and very clean. The staff were very helpful and smiled!

Review 78:There was a a lack of choice for the evening meal on the Friday and my meal was not very good, hence we had dinner at another restaurant on the Saturday. My breakfast on the Saturday morning could have been better presented.

Review 79:Location for the Lakes, friendly staff, rooms clean with good facilities.

Review 80:What a let down breakfast was compared to brilliant experience so far. There were only 3 of us for breakfast. The man of the other couple only had fruit for breakfast, the lady scrambled eggs, so the 'chef' wasn't exactly rushed off his feet so there is no excuse for my v v hard boiled eggs with cold dry burnt toast with burnt bits scraped off. Hope this blip has already been rectified.

Review 81:Lovely quiet location as few miles from motorway. Very clean and comfortable with v good modern facilities. Felt comfortable for a solo oap traveller. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Lunch and dinner were v good with large portions. All good value for money.

Review 82:Only issue we had was a disco/function in a function as the bass was intrusive when in our room. Minor point the room lighting with white LEDs made it feel col, warm LEDs might be better. On Sunday as we left the reception was closed but no details of room rate left for other staff, all sorted quickly though

Review 83:Our evening meal was excellent with local ingredients, well cooked and served by friendly staff, price was fair too. Our room was good, bathroom was nice.

Review 84:I have to stay in all the hotels I've stayed in this one was exceptional for service. The staff constantly made you feel at home and couldn't do enough for us. Massive thank you to Mel and Jo you were truly fantastic and they did everything from booking taxis, booking our meals out. Can't thank you all enough. The breakfast at the hotel was the best I've ever had, was a massive selection of warm foods, not just full English and that's it, it was like being in a 5 star restaurant it was gorgeous, the quality of the food was a 10/10. Massive thanks to Stoneybeck inn.

Review 85:There was a slight odour in our room!

Review 86:Comfy large super king bed and quality linen and modern facilities. Good wifi signal! Delicious food! Extremely well trained staff!!

Review 87:Our stay was perfect and just what my 8 month pregnant girlfriend needed. The staff were outstanding and so helpful. The food was out of this world.

Review 88:Nothing we didn't like!

Review 89:Very comfortable accommodation in a convenient location close to the M6. The bedroom decor and facilities are of a high standard. A very comprehensive dinner menu with well cooked food, and a wide choice available for the excellent breakfast. The staff of this family operated Inn were welcoming and professional. We would not hesitate to stay here again and to recommend the Stoneybeck Inn to all our friends.

Review 90:Only one staff member in the morning doing checkouts and serving breakfast so we had a long wait before being served. Porridge would be better used for putting between bricks.

Review 91:The new rooms are very well decorated and the beds are comfortable. The hotel was having some difficulties with their heating but did their best to make sure we were comfortable and warm. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was good.

Review 92:The new rooms are not in the main building so you have to walk from the bar across the back yard to a purpose built block. But it was very quiet.

Review 93:The room was part of a new project for Stonybeck, and as such all the fixtures and fittings were brand new and of a really good quality. The bed was comfy the room was spotless, and the breakfast was fit for a king. Highly recommended.

Review 94:Leaving.

Review 95:Secluded location coupled with only a few rooms meant that the staff were able to be quite attentive. The M6 was close enough to make access easy, but not so close that it was a nuisance. The restaurant is superb and cooked excellent local produce. I could continue to wax lyrical, but you've probably got the idea. We loved our stay.

Review 96:Smell in the room (damp plaster smell emanating from the bathroom??) Carpet needs cleaning Attempted to over charge (two nights rather than one)

Review 97:Staff.... very polite & helpful Excellent food / breakfast / Restaurant /bar. Easy to find.

Review 98:Car park in front of the hotel which obstructed the view as did the nearness of road and M6. This is obviously a major asset for people who are on business and for the conference facilities - so good for the hotel.

Review 99:The bedroom Blencathra was sumptuous - loved the new solid wood furniture and shower room. The staff were so friendly and helpful - couldn't have been better. The breakfast was amazing as was supper - presentation wonderful - compliments to the chef.

Review 100:Smell on entering room was terrible - like a sewer but was rectified while we were downstairs. First pint beer undrinkable - no compensation for either offered.

Review 101:Attention to detail on decor, cleanliness of room.

Review 102:the Stoneybeck Inn is amazing value for money. The food is outstanding anf the staff are very attentive and welcoming. Whilst sitting in the restaurant you can take in the perfect views. my husband and i had a very long journey and were looking forward to having a soak in the bath. Our original room was lovely but only had a shower, the staff managed to swap us to the top spec room from a small additional cost....it was perfect!

Review 103:Couldn't be bettered. Staff were a credit to the Inn. Greeted us with a cup of tea on our arrival. Bedroom warm and very comfortable. Best nights sleep I have had in a long time. Great sized shower. Breakfast excellent quality. Will stay again when we are due to visit Carlisle. Highly recommended. Hope to stay longer next time.

Review 104:The service at this family owned hotel was second to none. The restaurant was excellent using local produce. Great spot for a few days exploring of this forgotten backwater. Just one mile of M6 jnct 41

Review 105:1. Despite having complained there was no heating in our room and being promised by staff that it would be attended to, we spent the entire stay without heating. This is unacceptable. 2. Wi-fi was useless even for the most basic tasks unless you were downstairs. 3. Evening meal portions were works of art but the quantity would not feed a sparrow.

Review 106:The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were good and hearty.

Review 107:The hotel is much better viewed from inside. Loved the breakfast. A very pleasant stay that couldn't be faulted in any way. The staff were genuinely courteous & helpful.

Review 108:We spent one night here on the way to the Scottish Highlands as it is only minutes away from the M6. The restaurant menu is imaginative and the cooking is superb. Bedroom was quite small but very nicely furnished and the whole place has obviously been recently refurbished to a high standard. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 109:Location - close to motorway and North Lakes. Friendly and helpful staff. Bedroom and bathroom with wow factor. Very clean and well appointed. Restaurant dinner good choices, tasty, and well presented. Breakfast equally good choices and equally well presented.

Review 110:Would have loved a kingsize bed instead of a double. New rooms planned should have king size beds. Bit noisy if your room is at the front of the hotel.

Review 111:Location, very close to M6, as a stop off fantastic. Great chef, and food and service very good. Lovely bedrooms, really well appointed and designed, everything you could need.

Review 112:There was nothing adverse as far as we were concerned.

Review 113:We very much enjoyed our brief stay here. The hotel was easily accessible from the motorway, quiet but beautifully appointed. The staff were friendly and helpful. we would certainly recommend the hotel to friends for future consideration and will return ourselves.

Review 114:Stayed in the Eden suite for three nights. Excellent room with great facilities, finished to a high standard. Great bar.. including cocktails! Staff are very welcoming and go out of their way to make the stay enjoyable. Brilliant location. 5 minute drive into Penrith, plenty of pubs and places to eat. Highly recommend the Four and Twenty restaurant. The food was amazing!

Review 115:On arrival the outside of the building is not great to look at but once you are inside the staff, rooms, food and drink are really exellent. Looking forward to my next trip south this is definitely a stop of point.

Review 116:A full length mirror in the room would have been handy but this isn't really a criticism.

Review 117:We had an executive room which was very well appointed with a lovely bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious, whilst the staff were pleasant and attentive without being obtrusive.

Review 118:The shower cubicle in the bathroom was too small and cramped which was a shame as the bathroom space was quite big.

Review 119:All the staff were friendly and welcoming. We loved our room with its four poster bed and the bathroom was huge. Everything was clean and modern and we wished we could stay longer than just the two nights. Food in the restaurant was a good standard and well presented.

Review 120:Entrance was a bit confusing. No doors open when we arrived and had to go around the back to gain entrance, which wasn't the prettiest. However once inside it was lovely, great meal and breakfast.

Review 121:The bedrooms were fabulous, nicely done and plenty of room. Bathroom was fabulous also.

Review 122:A bar menu with something lighter for those who perhaps dont fancy a full meal/main course.

Review 123:Loved the room with an opening window & free wifi, just off the M6 so perfect stopover Inn. Food - gastropub style - excellent evening meal & flexible. I didnt want a main course so had a soup & a side dish. Staff friendly. Loads of car parking. 10/15mins drive & you are at Ullswater. Hotel was my fave after a week of touring Scotland. Bar prices a refreshing change after a few rip off prices in hotels we stayed at last week!

Review 124:We liked everything! Couldn't fault it!

Review 125:We loved the spacious newly refurbished contemporary suite! Great bath tub and comfy bed! Soundproofed room so a brilliant nights sleep!

Review 126:Very unhappy that we were not made aware of the specific shower controls until after we had endured several cold/tepid showers!!

Review 127:The room was very clean with modern décor. Bathroom was modern. Food was of a very good quality, imaginative and the presentation was excellent. The service from all the staff was very good, Harry in particular was very helpful.

Review 128:The Staff where really friendly, they couldn't do enough for you they really made you feel comfortable and relaxed. especially Harry and the young Blonde girl from Bolton really sorry forgot her name. where especially helpful. The food was excellent and the rooms well decorated and where bright and clean, really looking forward to a return visit really highly recommend.
