Reviews for Istron Bay Hotel
Review 1:The room was drab and supposedly an upgrade ! Dread to think what the room before the upgrade would have been like. Bathroom mirror smeared and generally everything felt it needed a good clean.
Review 2:The Location
Review 3:The hotel and premises are a bit dated. To be fair: this is reflected in the price. Nevertheless it is still very charming, and the location more than makes up for it.
Review 4:Magnificent location, all rooms with sea view. Very large pool, also with sea view. Private beach, directly accessible from the hotel premises. Nice restaurant/bar directly at the beach (fairly simple, but very good menu). Very friendly and helpful personnel.
Review 5:This was a well positioned hotel with it's own private beach and within easy driving distance of Agios Nikolaos, Spinalonga and the Lasithi Plateau. The hotel had regular special events such as a barbecue with musical entertainment. The staff were very helpful and welcoming.
Review 6:the only disadvantage of the place is that every evening from 20:30 for roundabout two hours there's an activity for the children which takes place in the open air and makes a lot of noise, very irritating and disturbing.
Review 7:this place is paradise on earth. amazingly beautiful, one cant but relax and enjoy every single minute. most amazing beaches, butterfly accompany you as you walk those beautiful paths to eat breakfast... stunning view, simply fantastic.
Review 8:1. My room was not what was represented on the website. 2. There was only one very uncomfortable pillow on the double bed. 3. The air- conditioning broke on the first night (was fixed after a second request). 4. My room was outside the gift shop and stairs to then snack bar - then noise was ridiculous. Especially on Monday morning when they decided to drill and do maintenance immediately outside my room when I was trying to rest and sleep. 5. The food at the 'snack bar' was awful. Worst pizza I have ever eaten. 6. One night the people upstairs decided to tip all of their rubbish (cigarette butts, dip and biscuit packets, water bottles etc) over the side onto my balcony - it was a disgusting. I have photos. 7. Expensive and poor Wi-Fi.
Review 9:The female Dutch origin lady on the front desk.
Review 10:Location, old building, very old room furniture's, uncomfortable, not clean at all. weird construction. most guests are old couples...
Review 11:A big problem to find a "real" positive point
Review 12:Situation and plenty of sun loungers, and extensive grounds. Watering plants would be a good idea.Meals in a la carte restaurant were the only civilised way to have dinner.
Review 13:The beach of the hotel (as indeed most beaches at Istro bay) are with pebbles.A disadvantage for those that prefer sand.Watershoes needed!
Review 14:The view from our room over the Istro bay was spectacular, the staff very helpful, the amenities excellent, the breakfast buffet very varied and the different water sports on offer at the "private" beach of the hotel completed the picture of a great vacation spot.
Review 15:The WiFi was extortionate and had to be bought on prepaid cards... Which they'd run out of. Just no excuse at all not to have free WiFi in this day and age. Readily available in every other place we've stayed on Crete. Even little apartments owned by little old ladies. Baffling. Sort it out.
Review 16:Beautiful hotel, faded glory but still incredible for the price. Food is very good, staff kind, rooms huge and comfortable. Private beach is just the best thing about it. Heavenly. Everything was wonderful but...
Review 17:Very good hotel in its category and good pricing. The hotel has direct access to a nice beach which is private and has with activities and scuba-diving. The staff is very friendly (except at the restaurant were a couple of older staff could definitively improve but the young folks are friendly). The young animation team is doing a great job, with activities and shows everyday for all ages (the hotel guests are not young however), they are very dynamic and especially Chris who is very professional in all areas to give us a good vacation. A lot of stairs and walking distance but this is part of the hotel charms.
Review 18:the location of the hotel is terrible terrible infrastructure and streets and roads to arrive at the reception the venue is very old and dirty fridge was the entire time of our stayout of order because electrician was not available, 1 week without cold water in the room or use of fridge no Greek channels on TV no internet/wifi disgusting food, nothing related to Greek cuisine staff very rude, without the usual good morning greeting and most of the time with upset and fake smiling very old furniture and broken pieces dirty balcony and plastic chairs, no umbrella or sunbed unironed curtains and bedsheets it was too expensive to pay for a vacation without conditions, i will never go back and will advice anyone i know to never go there
Review 19:the nature around the hotel (sea)
Review 20:The quality of the buffet dinner could be better.
Review 21:The hotel is suited in a private bay, excellent location and private beach. The rooms are beautiful and the hotel has an excellent swimming pool and tropical views. the staff is very friendly and helpful. The beach bar is romantic and placed right at the beach. We have really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to everyone.
Review 22:Just little problems with the shower; the building is a little bit old inside but however is nice.
Review 23:The location is amazing, nice beach and facilities; the room with sea view is just incredible. The staff is helpful and the breakfast is good.
Review 24:No wifi in the rooms and in the common areas it costs 5 euros per 90 min. Staff not very friendly contrary to the rest of Greece. Restaurants close at 10 pm and breakfast stops at 10 am so not advised for people who like to stay up at night. Cant use the pool after 11 pm.
Review 25:Nice beach 30 min drive from agios nicolaos which has a nice lake
Review 26:Miniumum 4 Euro for wifi and it must be used up directly, far away from other restaurants
Review 27:Private beach free sunbeds, very large pool, wonderful view
Review 28:The hotel is at best 3* not 5* !
Review 29:The staff
Review 30:absence of Internet access
Review 31:very friendly welcome and an unexpected upgrade made for a very memorable stay
Review 32:Tired looking rooms with old fashioned decor. Some areas of the hotel were shabby. The beach was not very clean, lots of plastic in the sea but to be fair, there were people trying to clean it up each day.
Review 33:Friendly staff, food very good and lots of variety. Good location for days out and historical sites. The room was clean.
Review 34:The bed was too soft. The smell in the bathroom was bad. The seat on the water closet was very old and ugly. The food was average or worse.
Review 35:The location. Beautiful view, nice beach and nice swimmingpool.
Review 36:the presence of tour groups and the loud music for their activities. Insufficient parasols & sunbeds on the beach.
Review 37:the food; big room and terrace; the beach and sea swimming; the attractive, well kept grounds; the walk into the village.
