Reviews for Foundry 34
Review 1:The smell coming from the disabled toilet whilst we were in the bar area.
Review 2:The location was spot on for the wedding we were attending, and the Chinese across the road :)
Review 3:Only grumble was that there was no shampoo in room- there was showergel etc though
Review 4:Rooms were modern and well equipped. Staff were without exception friendly and helpful. Location was excellent too. Enjoyed breakfast in the morning.
Review 5:Very friendly and helpful staff; beautiful room; superb food and right in the very heart of Penrith; close to a taxi rank and within a short walk to the rail station
Review 6:There wasn't anything I'd day I didn't like.
Review 7:The staff were great and our room was very nice. It was quite small and when I booked I was led to believe I'd paid for a deluxe double with a terrace however we had a tiny room. But due to how nice it was and the quality I didn't feel the need to complain. The food is also amazing and the full English breakfast is to die for
Review 8:A good hotel, but with several gotchas which seasoned travellers will be ready for, so this is mostly for novices. Leaving the hotel room turns off the power to the lights, and also the extractor fan so don't just shower, throw on clothes and leave. The electric door locks were fine but the manual bolts didn't line up which would be a problem for anyone who had to go back to their room and change while people were cleaning rooms - door wedges can be bought from Homebase. The curtains fit well but benefited from a clip to keep them together. As for the wifi, they do spam whatever the sign-up form says, so use a disposable email address and since the terms and conditions say they use your data commercially, be sure to set up a vpn, especially if your children will be using it. Maplin can help you with this, as can your home ISP.
Review 9:A generally good hotel, a modest walk from the railway with unrestricted free parking a few minutes walk uphill and 1 hour free parking on the doorstep. Lovely breakfast room, be sure to sit near one of the windows furthest from the door you come in from just for the view, and try the vegetarian sausages even if you're a meat eater (I am) A spar and a co-op within a minute from the front door should cover most of your basic needs, the high street is two minutes away and there is a chippy (who do gluten-free batter) on the doorstep.
Review 10:Had no lift climbed a lot of stairs . Bedrooms small for single room .
Review 11:Great for over night stop off ideal location . Very friendly staff . More than helpful with our luggage
Review 12:Only problem was outside our room you could hear a lot of noise at 2 in morning due to a nearby club I would think
Review 13:Nice room very warm lovely bar area and restaurant would go back
Review 14:Nothing it was perfect
Review 15:Beautiful little hotel one of the nicest I've ever had the pleasure to stay in .rooms of a very high standard and the location superb. Really enjoyed it would recommend to anyone
Review 16:First night I was told there would be a 30 minute wait for an evening meal. 2 hours later I was still waiting so cancelled my order. A lot of stairs to rooms. I'd just had knee surgery and found it difficult to get up the stairs with my suitcase. Service very slow
Review 17:Proximity to my workplace
Review 18:The breakfast was very disappointing, it took nearly half an hour from the time I ordered. There was not enough fresh coffee on offer. The quality of the breakfast was very poor.
Review 19:The decor and rooms were fantastic, and the shower was excellent.
Review 20:The room was tiny (for £65 a night) and a windowsill at the head end of the bed made it impossible to sit up in bed comfortably.
Review 21:Staff were really lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The scrambled eggs at breakfast were excellent. I felt perfectly at home there as a solo female guest.
Review 22:Stayed in room number 1 and it was so hot and noise from the next room also smell from outside bins
Review 23:Could not fault staff, cleanliness and food all excellent
Review 24:The staff were wonderful. They could not have been more helpful. From the bar and restaurant staff to the lady who cleans the room were all lovely and made it a pleasant stay. The food was also first class so well done to the chefs
Review 25:Room was small and unbearably hot even using a blower and windows open. Couldn't recognise the description as a 'boutique hotel'. Eating breakfast whilst staff cleared away around was not exactly relaxing.
Review 26:The location.
Review 27:nothing apart from breakfast room was extremely hot! not really a dislike just that we were so hot we had to rush our breakfast!
Review 28:Staff very friendly and obliging.
Review 29:Parking posed a bit of a problem. The floorboards in our room were squeaky and unavoidable in getting to the ensuite.
Review 30:The staff, Sophie in particular, were excellent. The restaurant was excellent.
Review 31:Lots of stairs might be difficult for some people and they were noisy - so if you were having a lie in I think you would get woken up. Not sure how thick the walls are as I could hear a chap coughing quite loudly nearby.
Review 32:Modern, clean, fresh - recently refurb I thin and was lovely. Nice brasserie downstairs if you want an evening meal and right in the centre of Penrith.
Review 33:parking not brilliant but what do you expect in the centre of a town
Review 34:all good friendly staff really really clean rooms. I've stayed twice in the last 2 weeks and will be again next week
Review 35:No lift...plus my single room was smaller than to swing a cat...! No good if wee bit claustrophobic...The outside looks more like a shop or café which is off-putting to myself who was a first time visitor, and staying their...
Review 36:Nothing was too much bother when staff were asked for any help...
Review 37:A lot of stairs but with no space for lift, unavoidable
Review 38:Helpful, friendly staff, modern, well maintained room. Lovely big shower, very comfortable bed. Great breakfast with local produce and free parking
Review 39:Check in was Ok but check out wasn't, difficult to hand key card and parking permit back to .... Try having a deposit box?
Review 40:Room, hotel position in Penrith, breakfast
Review 41:Having to pay £15 extra and not being informed before taken from my account.
Review 42:Comfy bed. Room well furnished and spacious Very clean and tidy. Good-sized bathroom Shower was excellent Overall a excellent place to stay.
Review 43:The back door to get in and out, can be easily be opened without a key or code. Only 1 key out of 2 for the room worked for unlocking the hotel room.
Review 44:The bed was very comfortable.
Review 45:Only slight negative walls between my room (6) and adjoining room (7) extremely thin as could here everything couple next door were saying and doing
Review 46:Friendly staff , good location , parking free overnight, great breakfast and great shower
Review 47:Very disappointed, overpriced accommodation, no wow factor, not sure what I was paying for. Cramped corridors, cheap bathroom fittings, only one towel and no bathmat. Could hear next doors occupant snoring when in the bedroom and the bathroom. Had single room, bit cramped and dark decor. Hotel not situated in the prettier part of Penrith, Some more lighting in the rooms and corridors would have helped.
Review 48:staff were friendly and helpful. Food in restaurant was good but chef did not seem to understand that spring onion is onion. Menu was limited. Breakfast was good, liked the home made hash browns.
Review 49:Hardly any staff around the building during the day to help you, late checking in time wasn't so great and the area is quiet and not much to do. Room wasn't cleaned during our stay, had to ask to be cleaned but was disappointed to find all they had done was made the bed
Review 50:The wi-fi is great and easy, nicely decorated rooms
Review 51:breakfast. Full English not cooked properly. Bit tasteless and scrambled egg too scrambled. We stayed here same time last year and feel this year standard not as good.
Review 52:Locality.
Review 53:Although we were on the top floor and requested a quift room, the nearby club was very noisy (music, shouting from people leaving it early in the morning and arguing in the carpark at rear). Check-in at 4.00 fine, but website did not make it clear that no-one is on the premises until 4.00 Sun thru Wed as restaurant not open those days, so not possible to leave suitcases, bags there before 4.00 on those days.
Review 54:Hotel was closed when we arrived to check in. Numbers were available to call but no reply.
Review 55:Lovely hotel. Good location, lovely bar area and food. Super room, extremely comfortable bed and spacious. Staff were lovely.
Review 56:Stairs, not really good for any one with mobility issues.
Review 57:The room was very nicley decorated to a high standard. En suite had a really nice wet room type shower. Food was cracking, the staff were as nice as any I have ever come across; very friendly and really helpful. Very nice place - not expensive.
Review 58:The noise on Friday and Saturday from the outside venues was unbearable (contrary to the hotel description of finishing at 11:30 and offering earplugs). The car parking was a lot to be desired, which wasn't helped by the undesirable clientele wishing to use the car parking areas as a place to vomit and urinate. The size of the room for what was supposed to be a luxury room was questionable, hence value for money questionable. WIFI was temperamental but adequate
Review 59:Breakfast was hearty and on arrival, member of staff sought to help carry bags to room.
Review 60:Room was too hot - although it was on the hottest day of the year, but the portable air con unit in the room was not up to the job!
Review 61:Great location and friendly staff. Food was excellent
Review 62:Really comfortable room that was perfect for our 1 night stay and the breakfast was lovely too. We also had our evening meal there which was delicious and reasonably priced.
Review 63:Check in arrangements unclear. Closed when we arrived at 1600 and had to knock at rear door.
Review 64:Clean modern facilities and dining Good menus and service. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 65:Arrived during heatwave and was unable to properly ventilate room. Staff had put in portable air-conditioning unit but it couldn't handle the temperature. Other areas of the hotel fine, but led to the most disturbed nights sleep
Review 66:Warm welcome, very clean, excellent staff, great breakfast
Review 67:Noisy folk in the street until 3.30am. Too hot to close the window. Winter weight duvet too hot.
Review 68:Comfortable modern room. Good restaurant menu. Lively bar with live music on a Saturday.
Review 69:With staying a few days we would have welcomed a fridge in the room. The taxi rank outside the hotel did make the room noisy when the pubs closed.
Review 70:Both the bed and the shower were excellent. The location was really good as it is close to many excellent restaurants.
Review 71:Parking was not very convenient but staff provided disc and helpful advice. Stairs to rooms would be difficult for anyone with mobility problems. Bedroom carpet had not been vacuumed after last guests.
Review 72:Nice room with good facilities. Food and drinks were very good. Live music on Saturday night provided entertainment and a good atmosphere. Staff were very helpful.
Review 73:Room was a little small but for one night was fine.
Review 74:Nice hotel in a good location for the lakes and travelling on to other parts of northern England. Breakfast was great and set us up well for the day.
Review 75:nothing
Review 76:comfy bed, nice shower, best English breakfast ever, brasserie is fantastic, nice wine selection not too expensive, ribeye steak fantastic sauce is to die for actually really memorable, we would go out of our way to stay here again.
Review 77:Expected to have some noise as very central, but still managed to get good sleep
Review 78:Central location, room lovely, breakfast ok and we had evening meal which was really enjoyable, great value for money
Review 79:Staff were lovely but there was a very long wait for food in the evening which was a real shame. Food was nice when it came though.
Review 80:The hotel was clean and fresh. Down one set of stairs for dinner then the next set for the bar and great band!
Review 81:A very good home made hamburger meal was spoilt by a tough and chewy roll. However this was soon forgotten thanks to the excellent eton mess
Review 82:One night stopover with motorcycle. Right in the centre of Penrith. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Excellent new facilities which were very comfortable. Very cleverly arranged accommodation: e.g. cute little roof terrace. I felt that this offered modern high quality and private "boutique" hotel facilities but with the friendliness of a guest house e.g in room tea/coffee and biscuits etc.
Review 83:Didn't bother me but was noisy from musicians in cafe/bar until 11 30; shower head slid steadily down rail & couldn't be stopped
Review 84:Modern, well decorated room & en suite; really good breakfast; handy for a walk around Penrith town centre.
Review 85:Rooms felt like we were in someone's home, not soundproofed and creaky floorboards. We could hear next door, even placing items on desks and yawning. I was glad that we took the car otherwise it would have been difficult to travel around local points of interest.
Review 86:The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The decor is attractive. The rainforest shower is refreshing. Good quality TV with clear picture and sound (sometimes hard to come by in the lakes!) Breakfast was made to order. The staff were helpful, friendly and polite. Quiet location. Lovely food in restaurant below, reasonably priced.
Review 87:We were asked to book a time for breakfast and we chose 8am because we wanted to be out for 9am to start day 2 of our Coast 2 Coast cycle ride. We were waiting over 45 minutes for breakfast. There was only one cook on duty and one waitress. I could tell my partner was getting anxious about getting going.
Review 88:The staff were generally very friendly and welcoming and helpful. The rooms were small, but fit for purpose and the beds were very comfortable. I had booked a double room and ended up with a twin, but the staff were willing to get the beds pushed together.
Review 89:On the return trip, a week later, we found there had been a 'software glitch' and no room was available - the staff were very good, especially Dan, and arranged for us to stay in another hotel which unfortunately was out of town which meant we were confined to the hotel - Booking.Com confirmed our booking(!) so I hope the problem can be sorted.
Review 90:Very pleasant staff and a good atmosphere. In the center of town so other eating places are available. We used it as a 'stopover' on the way to Scotland and as a chance to see something of the Lake District.
Review 91:The loud shouting in the restaurant in the evening by a group of 8 on a table nearby. We had to leave after the first course and take coffee up to our room for some peace and quiet. Not the hotels fault but very annoying.
Review 92:No problems at all except for the negative comment enclosed.
Review 93:service at breakfast needs improvement. long wait, not served together and lack of separate toast. Staff, although pleasant, require more training
Review 94:accommodation bistro location
Review 95:Walls a bit thin - TV in neighbours room a bit too noticeable Parking - relies on public parking which is not ideal but plenty public parking around.
Review 96:Staff - very friendly, made for nice atmosphere on arrival, in dining room and on departure Good Value overall. Very good, fresh and bright rooms and eating areas.
Review 97:We were cycling C2C and all staff were friendly and welcoming. Excellent facilities and nice room. We ate in the restaurant and had a lovely meal to round off a great day.
Review 98:Couldn't check in til 4, we had to wait in a cafe , as we had gone by train . Then we found out about the stairs , LOTS of them , I had requested a room low down , as I was still running in a new knee. OUCH!
Review 99:The food was delicious , the staff very helpfull , all nice and clean .
Review 100:They took payment from the card I reserved the room with, without my permission. I had intended to pay cash on check out, however I was told that payment had been taken from my card. I was not happy.
Review 101:Late check in early departure, 40 minute wait for cooked breakfast, poor selection of buffet, Wifi time limit to register not explained Cold room
Review 102:Comfy bed
Review 103:Service There was none The bathroom was falling to bits the plug did not work in sink , toilet roll holder fell off wall the bathroom was so small I burned my bottom on the radiator and ripped my dress on door catch and on checking out there was no one there to complain to ,I sent a email but did not get a reply
Review 104:Location
Review 105:parking some dust in high places wardrobe didnt close properly quite pricey but not the facilities to go with it
Review 106:comfy bed Breakfast room size water in room
Review 107:The breakfast was fine but there was only one member of staff waiting on - not enough in our opinion.
Review 108:Great town centre location. The room was modern, comfortable and clean. Free wi fi. Friendly staff.
Review 109:Noise from outside in the early hours as people left local pubs/clubs.
Review 110:We had a lovely 1 night stay. The food was amazing. Although small our room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful.
Review 111:A minor gripe but nescafe sachets for in room coffee is just a bit less than what we would expect given the standard of the rest of their offer. Like I say, minor but worth noting!
Review 112:We only stayed one night but found the staff very helpful and the room was comfortable and warm. Breakfast was good too. Veggies well catered for
Review 113:The price of the room was rather steep, but this was a similar price for the whole of Penrith, we stayed in January (out of season, there where only two other couple's in the hotel) yet the price was the same as if it was August?
Review 114:The restaurant was super, the staff are friendly and the whole place is clean modern and tidy.
Review 115:Noise from outside over night. Water was switched off in early evening when shower required before heading out for a meal with friends.
Review 116:Room was lovely, clean very comfy bed. Room was small but had everything needed. Staff customer service was excellent.
Review 117:That we had to go home.
Review 118:Great stay! Booked 2 nights as we were attending a wedding all day Saturday, about ten minutes by car away. We can't recommend enough. Got there at 8ish on the Friday, I'd booked a table beforehand, food was great, my fiancé had fish and chips and I had a chicken burger, both lovely. The house white was delicious. Staff were lovely and friendly, couldn't do enough for us, offered help with bags and so on, showed to our room, lovely big comfy bed, great sleep. Good range of channels on the TV, all extras like iron, tea, kettle, hair dryer. Great shower!!! (A rare find) Breakfast was brilliant, shockingly in with the price, when we have paid £10 per person for breaky in some hotels. Also special thanks to the lady starving us both mornings, so friendly, as we were staying Saturday night too, asked if we needed a room clean, extra towels, more tea bags. Had a chilled out breakfast on the Sunday with the papers, lovely breakfast/function bar upstairs. Didn't feel rushed out and probably stayed over checkout time, but didn't seem a problem. Ideally set in Penrith town. Would reccomend and would totally stay there again for a weekend away/ night out in the towns nightlife Highly reccomended
Review 119:Dirty toilet. Paper thin walls Breakfast average with regards to taste, but very well presented and lots of it.
Review 120:Live Entertainment Good value for money on drinks and food which were very reasonably priced. Room ideal for 1 night.
Review 121:We would have liked 2 packets of biscuits and hot chocolate!! And it was noisy for most of the night with drunken revellers outside.
Review 122:We loved the place - good quality all round.
Review 123:Nothing, would happily return again.
Review 124:My work had a Christmas party meal here and the fact that I could also stay at the same place was perfect. Staff were really friendly and helpful even though it was busy. Xmas meal and breakfast were both excellent.
Review 125:The staff were all very helpful and put us at our ease.Room heating was switched on as soon as we got to our room. The breakfast next morning was real value for money!!
Review 126:no lift and some section of the stair case could do with a handle when changing levels. i walk with a stick and the two outside steps have no handrail
Review 127:nice welcome on arrival. the front door is part of their brassiere so not obvious well appointed with the bathroom especially good. the food in the resturant for both Breakfast and Dinner was excellant. good flovours well presented the chunky chips left no residue in the container tehy came in
Review 128:Nothing
Review 129:Fabulous location and fabulous staff, very welcoming and happy to share their enthusiasm for their town. New menu was amazing and was a fantastic end to our walking holiday.
Review 130:Foundry 43 doesn't have it's own parking. However, there is free parking from 18.00 to 09.00. (1) I initially had trouble finding a car parking space. (2) What a pity the local authority can't be pursuaded to permit free parking up to 10.00am!
Review 131:central location
Review 132:The staff at breakfast seemed a bit slow at taking our order and setting the table as we was missing cutlery There was no free parking
Review 133:Location was good especially to get into Penrith town centre. There was a good pub across the road and the staff was easy to talk to and we enjoyed that. Room was clean, and a decent size bed and it was a comfy bed and it was quiet as welk
Review 134:The noise from the street that went on until 3.00am in the morning.
Review 135:The service provided by Jamie and Connor was excellent, and the standard of accommodation is very good.
Review 136:Nothing couldnt fault it
Review 137:All newly fitted single and double rooms above a Bistro. Excellent standard throughout, comfy bed . good breakfast. In town centre with on street parking nearby .
Review 138:Not disabled friendly, poor breakfast it was cold when served and didn't get what was asked for.
Review 139:Room was clean and comfortable, would be good for younger people but not for people with limited mobility
Review 140:The stairs. That's all
Review 141:Very convenient for shopping. Nice room although as I have poor leg use I would have preferred less stairs. Enjoyed the stay even so. Great food. Would stay again if in the area. Many thanks.
Review 142:Room right at the top with lots of stairs and turns to get to it. Had to also go through the restaurant to get to the room. Limited parking available.
Review 143:Room very comfortable, bathroom well appointed at spacious.
The Fine Print
Please be aware that due to the town centre location, this property can occasionally suffer from noise from traffic or people outside. The ground-floor bar is also sometimes host to live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, until 23:30. Although every care is taken to avoid it, noise can travel to the rooms. Complimentary ear plugs are available upon request.
