Reviews for The Mountsorrel

Review 1:Clean Comfortable Rooms. We stayed in the family room and a single. Cooked breakfast was good with a few choices if you don't like the traditional fry up This is a small friendly hotel, a bit old fashioned but this doesn't detract from the experience . We would stay again as the location is convenient for us to visit family

Review 2:The breakfast could be improved. Only one round of toast given, bacon was very dry and sausage was mediocre. Mushrooms were delicious though! Not particularly extensive selection of cereal. As I don't have much for breakfast that was OK, but a little disappointing. They were also quite hot on portion control. Also, I was in room 3, you could hear everything that was going on in the next door room when you were in the shower room.

Review 3:Lots of parking, comfy (single) bed. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 4:Our room was near to the kitchen therefore was a little noisy. Electric shower (prefer power shower)

Review 5:Room very clean & it had a sitting room area with another tv. Lovely breakfast and dining room.

Review 6:Curtains didn't keep out enough light (I live in the country and am used to pitch darkness at night:)

Review 7:Friendliness, character of building, Breakfast.

Review 8:Very homely guest house and perfect for a one or two night stay. Very quiet no slamming doors or traffic sounds. Staff very helpful even went out to buy us some special pastries as we had to be out before breakfast. We enjoyed our meal and a small sample of the soup to taste was an added bonus. I would definitely stay here again as would my friend.

Review 9:Unfortunately, whoever dealt with our booking didn't pay attention to our request of twin bed's. However, the owner made sure our request was granted, but this meant changing rooms after the 1st night. Also, serving breakfast up to 9am, instead of 8.30am, would be nice when on a leisure break.

Review 10:My young son & I were looked after very well, especially at breakfast, where the food was really good & the staffeta were friendly. The staff went to every length to ensure our needs were accommodated. Our rooms were spacious, bright & very clean, with noise level to a minimum, despiteous being next to the main road!

Review 11:No bad experience - just wish there was a bedside table and reading lamp on both sides of our bed.

Review 12:Attractive, peaceful surroundings, excellent breakfasts, with the option of an evening meal (comprehensive menu) and pleasant staff.

Review 13:Decor was dated but in a good state of repair so might not have been our taste but was still to a good standard if you do like that sort of thing.

Review 14:Staff, restaurant, breakfast was excellent too.

Review 15:The room was light & fresh very clean with lovely clean ensuite. Quiet. Plenty of table space. Comfortable beds. Delicious breakfast, plenty of choice. Staff very welcoming.

Review 16:The administrator retained all the card details; isn't that illegalbecause it gives opportunity for fraud

Review 17:Breakfast was probably the best part of whole experience

Review 18:The friendliness and help of all of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Even finding out and giving a map to help us find a car park near to Richard 111 exhibition as my husband finds walking difficult.

Review 19:Evening meals disappointing. Shower lacked the performance of a mains fed or power shower.

Review 20:Excellent breakfast. Plenty of hot water. Pleasant ambiance. Brilliant wiifi.

Review 21:Very good accommodation. Clean and very comfortable. Great welcome. Quiet location. Breakfast included and very tasty. Short drive to university and town.

Review 22:Fantastic friendly welcome on late check in. Breakfasts really are great - try the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs! Very friendly service all round (from someone who works in hospitality this isn't always the case) Also the room was spotless!

Review 23:All good!

Review 24:Staff very friendly and accommodating. We arrived quite late at night but the chef was still happy to prepare us a meal. Also I left my phone charger and the staff kindly rang me to let me immediately to let me know.

Review 25:Rooms are quite noise sensitive. Can hear moderate noise from neighbouring room so not quite suitable for light sleepers.

Review 26:Friendly and helpful staff. Food in restaurant as well as breakfast above average

Review 27:Shower wasn't very good and (only my opinion) didn't think what I ordered for dinner lived up to the description. Also, Had to ask for the bacon to be crisped on my eggs benedict despite saying it would be crisp, it was underdone.

Review 28:Staff were very friendly. Very clean and gardens lovely.

Review 29:nothing!

Review 30:The taff were very friendly and attentive, the food was excellent at breakfast and dinner. My room was quiet and had everything I needed, but did find it a little cold at night, coming from a hot country..the British summer!. I would not have expected the heating to be on in August and i am sure the hosts would have provided a heater if I had asked.

Review 31:The sherry trifle lacked any trace of sherry! Our room no.6 was small. Cost of the packed lunch (£13) for 2 ordinary sandwiches some crisps, 2 apples and 2 orange drinks.

Review 32:Level of service and evening meal apart from one item. The location and area around Mountsorrel.

Review 33:Bedroom 5 has a little noise from the fans, which I think are linked to the kitchen below and smell of breakfast from approx 6am.

Review 34:location, staff, ambience and especially a really good restaurant.

Review 35:Very welcoming, good choice for b/fast evening meal also available and of an excellent standard.room was a good size with two tv's, one for the bed and one near the settee in the little lounge area. We even had an iron and ironing board.Communal lounge and bar well stocked.

Review 36:For me it is a comfortable friendly place to stay with good food and close to the University. Twice now I have brought her amd all her stuff up the taken it all back home. Looking forward to the same again in a couple of months.

Review 37:Nothing, could hsve stayed for longrr.only one niggle, running out of peroni in yhe bar!

Review 38:Stayed at mountsorrell for my sons graduation, very welcoming, beautiful building and excellant food, staff very helpful and allowed us to leave a vehicle on the premises while attending graduation, which was great.

Review 39:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Wifi was included. Had dinner and breakfast there, both meals were very good. The room was clean, convenient and comfortable.

Review 40:If I had to criticise the on suit was cramped and bed rather hard

Review 41:Proximity to loughborough Uni. The staff and hotel were top class very pleasant. We got delayed until midnight on arrival and this was no problem, keys left in key safe and clear instructions about room. All for £58 for 2 of us amazing

Review 42:2 very minor comments: The pillows were quite hard (with no choice of softness). A hair dryer in the room would have been nice, but I am sure they would have provided one if I had asked.

Review 43:Staff were amazing friendly & very helpful with directions/advice/etc. Food was a real surprise - as the accomodation was quite standard/3* hotel, but I would say that the restaurant and food was more inkeeping with a 4* hotel. Very clean rooms & restaurant.

Review 44:As well as the original building there is a more modern annex where our room was. The door opens from outside directly into the room, which has less charm than the original building.

Review 45:Full English breakfast was well cooked and delightfully presented. We didn't eat in the evening, but I expect that it would be good. Free off-street parking.

Review 46:Could not find anything to complain about.

Review 47:The comfort and cleanliness but above all the friendliness. We will not hesitate to use this lovely guest house again if the need arises.

Review 48:The rudeness of other guests trying to swindle the owners. If you book a single room then it's for 1 person not 2.

Review 49:Lovely building, tastefully decorated and very clean. Very comfortable twin room and tasty, reasonably priced breakfasts. I'll definitely be staying there again ;)

Review 50:Small bed, noisy room on ground floor. Breakfast between 7 and 8 30! Far to early for a leisure break. sorry we wont be staying there again.

Review 51:Location & evening meal

Review 52:We loved staying in this welcoming house/hotel. The village is quaint, the meals were brilliant served in a very pleasant dining room. The staff were friendly and very helpful with some useful suggestions of things in the area to see/do.

Review 53:Very friendly staff, the hotel and room where spotlessly clean, we had a very nice English breakfast, I would consider the hotel as good value for money and would certainly stay again.

Review 54:Cannot think of anything!

Review 55:The warmth of welcome; friendliness and efficiency of staff. Felt 'so at home'. Location was ideal for walking, country park and Melton Mowbray.

Review 56:The room was very bright and clean and the dining room beautiful. The breakfast was excellent and would have stayed for dinner if we hadn't been going to a wedding. Plenty of off road parking.

Review 57:The heating seemed to go off at night which made me cold. I don't turn off or reduce my heating at home so it made me more reluctant to get out from under the duvet. Sounds from other guests came in through the small gap at the base of the door but it did not last long, was not inconvenient. The wifi was not so great, but was not a nuisance as I had mobile data. The vent in the bathroom may be noisy if you're sensitive to noise.

Review 58:The room was quiet enough given it was a guest house. I slept quite well, no night revelers. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I was put in room 14 in the annexe which was on ground floor but I was not comfortable there so I requested for a change which was granted easily, to room upstairs in the main building. I initially thought the room I was moved to was a single room as my booking was for a double room, but when I spoke to a staff, she said it was a double but in my opinion, it seemed smaller than the annexe room but I may be wrong. The room was clean, with white sheets, more than enough towels, a clean ensuite bathroom with a shower cubicle, small sink and toilet, cottonwool and toilet roll provided, the room was rugged, had a TV, a table and desk, with tea and coffee and a kettle and 2 cups with spoons, bed side lights. In short, it was suitable for my weekend.

Review 59:Friendly helpful staff. We were going to a wedding and as the room was ready they let us check in early. Breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice.

Review 60:This old Victorian hotel is in great condition but the shower pressure was not great but maybe this is expected in these type of buildings otherwise I would have given 5 Star

Review 61:Restaurant and Bar

Review 62:The fan to next doors bathroom was a bit disturbing on our second night

Review 63:Friendly welcoming host and lovely clean surroundings. Delicious breakfast (and home baked gluten free bread if requested). Would be very happy to return.

Review 64:Only a minor complaint in that the sink in room 4 is very tiny for when you are shaving.

Review 65:Nice friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. The bar was a welcomed sight after a hard days graft.

Review 66:Do not like plastic tumblers in bathroom. I know they are more hygenic however I prefer glass. No hairdryer in bedroom.

Review 67:I was given what could be descibed as a small suite. Room was beter than some five star hotels I have stayed in. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Review 68:Limited parking spaces, room was a bit cold

Review 69:Excellent facilities and service- they even scraped the ice from the car windscreens in the morning! very good food, lovely restaurant

Review 70:Would have been nice to have bigger en suite rather than have sink in room.

Review 71:Very relaxed very comfortable nice atmosphere and very good meals and a wide selection to choose from

Review 72:lovely welcome after a long drive, tasteful very clean room, immaculate sheets, most comfortable beds ever, slept like a log. breakfast staff friendly, a good selection for breakfast. will be using again when son goes to loughbrough uni.

Review 73:the wifi was a little hit and miss - but this is a minor point .

Review 74:the service was excellent and the price for meals was very reasonable. The room was very clean and comfortable.

Review 75:We didn't know they served evening meals before we arrived so booked to go elsewhere. We would have eaten in their restaurant had we known. But not a problem because we will stay again and use the restaurant.

Review 76:We liked the friendliness of the staff, our room was really comfy and warm. The breakfast was fantastic. The atmosphere in the bar was great a we got to meet other families who were also there for the same purpose as we were. The location of the guest house was perfect for our trip.

Review 77:Check in area in the hallway (no desk or reception), small hard towels, low quality shampoo/gel, no satellite/cable TV

Review 78:Quiet room, comfortable bed, good breakfast, welcoming staff who showed you to your room, nice lounge

Review 79:no heating on. A little chilly in room when we arrived, particulary in bathroom. Overall not too bad

Review 80:lovley big room, friendly staff, great breakfast, would stay again!

Review 81:We were totally unaware that they dont serve any food on a Sunday evening until we got in at 5pm that night. We were told it is stated on their website but personally couldn't find this information and even if it is the case, it would have been helpful if someone had told us at breakfast on Sunday that we would have to eat elsewhere that night.

Review 82:Staff were (on the whole) very friendly Room was comfy although a little on the small side. Hotel is easy to find. Food, when we ate there, was very nice, especially at breakfast

Review 83:The room was tiny and would not have been suitable for a larger person - it was ok for me for one night

Review 84:Warm welcome , attentive service, excellent breakfast and clean room. Great value and only 4 miles from Loughborough Plus beautiful German Shepherd Dog

Review 85:On this visit a had a very small single room.

Review 86:Very good food, friendly staff and easy parking. Good location if you have meetings in Leicester but want to stay outside the town.

Review 87:Mrs Mine Host was rather offhand with us when we first arrived, perhaps we disturbed her afternoon by arriving rather early. Breakfast was frankly disappointing after the excellent evening meal with disorganised service and a very mediocre sausage !

Review 88:Picked this place for the last night of a cycling trip before returning home to Derby. Well positioned on the old A6 in Mountsorrel which is now the cycle route. Arrived mid afternoon, parked bikes in private garden, had previously decided to have evening meal there and we were asked to choose our main courses by late afternoon. Room on the first floor was extremely comfortable if rather small. Met mine host on submitting our menu choices and he was very helpful in advising us on an early evening walk across the river meadows to Barrow. Evening meal was excellent in the newly extended (?) dining room with good food cooked by a young lady chef. Mine host ran a jovial bar !

Review 89:There was no large towels in the room to use in the shower . It would have been better with glasses made of glass not bendy plastic and mugs rather than a teacup the breakfast time until 9 rather than 7-8.30 on a week day

Review 90:Other than the dislikes everything was great

Review 91:I had to leave

Review 92:Lovely place grounds are superb. Staff are fantastic and rstaunant has unbelievable menu for small guest house /hotel Lovely properly cooked breakfast in morning and fantactic value . never book in a travel lodge again.

Review 93:The musty smell in the bedroom. The black mould on the ceiling and walls in the en-suite. The rotting window cill in the bedroom. The bedroom and en-suite were extremely small rooms. The bedroom and en-suite were well past their time for redecoration. The peeling wallpaper and cobwebs in the bedroom. Thin walls between bedrooms. Poor quality and choice at breakfast. No yogurt, pastries or muffins. Slow service. Only tinned grapefruit and just 3 pieces of fresh fruit available. The fresh fruit, coffee and milk were not replenished while we were in the dining room. The hotel's location is not at all quiet as it is located on a busy road and close to a supermarket which has early morning deliveries.

Review 94:Nothing

Review 95:Shower head needs changing and although I find this in a lot of hotels, small shower cubicles.

Review 96:Easy access, parking off road. Staff very helpful and friendly

Review 97:The hotel is of a smart appearance with a beautifully furnished bar and restaurant. My room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast delicious. The owners were very friendly and extremely helpful, as were all the other staff. I would highly recommend.

Review 98:For me, the mattress was rather soft. But this might be my personal opinion.

Review 99:Everything :) The staff were great and very helpful, the room was lovely, the food was super. The Mountsorrel is a very attractive hotel and has a relaxing feel to it.

Review 100:The bedroom was rather hot and the bathroom a little small but then there was a heatwave.

Review 101:An extraordinarily good meal, haute cuisine really! Everyone was very helpful. We were only 10 minutes from the university.

Review 102:We got there at around 9pm and felt that we weren't greeted that well. We hadn't had any food before we arrived as we left straight from work and although there was a bar we weren't given any information about it when we signed in e.g what time they opened till, if we could get food! I think the welcoming needs to be improved slightly and be friendlier. Apart from that the hotel was nice.

Review 103:The hotel was in a great location for preswold and was easy to find. The male owner of the hotel was very friendly. The beds we're comfy and the breakfast was yummy!!

Review 104:No lift or aircom - but good down stairs rooms available for those whodon't line stairs

Review 105:A well priced little gem with free parking and excellent t breakfasts -set in lovely gardens.Good welcome and on site restaurant / residents lounge and bar. Croeso da yma bob tro.

Review 106:Nothing really.

Review 107:Staff were helpful and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Will go back again.

Review 108:Great value for money. Excellent evening meal. Very smart dining area. Pleasant staff.

Review 109:Restaurant not open at weekends.

Review 110:Clean and tidy room, nice quiet location. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.

Review 111:Great breakfast, pleasant staff and clean comfortable room. Lovely bar and dining room.

Review 112:Not being told there was a party until 2300.

Review 113:Quiet location with good access.

Review 114:Comfortable, close to the countryside and to Loughborough, friendly staff and great breakfasts!

Review 115:Easy to book, friendly staff, good location, comfy bed, all amenities available, lovely breakfast.

Review 116:Cold room 2and a half hours to eat 2 courses at dinner. Long!!!

Review 117:Room was cold. Dinner took an eternity to be served. Location was not great.

Review 118:The room was very small and so was the shower. The room wasn't very warm either.

Review 119:The breakfast was ok, although a bit portion controlled.

Review 120:Hair dryer on request only. Shower could do with more pressure.

Review 121:Friendly and helpful staff. Great having a bar and restaurant onsite.

Review 122:Fire alarm at 3am, not the owners' fault though!

Review 123:Friendly well run b+b with good breakfast and comfortable bed.

Review 124:The quality of the food and value for money overall.

Review 125:Super clean friendly and efficient ..breakfast included was delicious

Review 126:We thought this place was lovely and would definitely stay again

Review 127:Had a room above the bar so was slightly noisy.

Review 128:The breakfast was great. Rooms were a good size. Facilities wee good.
