Reviews for The Crown Inn

Review 1:The bathroom was showing its age a little, nothing serious though. Electric shower - never found one that is half as good as a mains hot water. Not sure that salmon and eggs should be extra for breakfast though?

Review 2:The room was good and warm with a great king sized bed, staff friendly and helpful, evening meals very pub "comfort food" though those enormous chips defeated us both! Liked the public bar area, felt comfortable during the stay.

Review 3:No lift to upstairs rooms. I have asbestos related problems and requested a lower room. Disabled facilities only relate to ground floor, this is misleading.

Review 4:Had to cut visit short due to too many stairs, heavy rain prevented our leaving hotel, flooding. Forecast was bad for next two days. Managed to get away via A590.

Review 5:We booked a twin bedded room and requested that it not be up too many stairs and away from noise. We had to negotiate 24 stairs to our bedroom to the furthest possible room away from reception. On booking in to the room we found the shower room to be filthy and reported it. Maria attended to it promptly, telling us that the drains were a problem. The bedroom was located above the bar, where on Saturday night (the first of our two night stay to celebrate my birthday) a very noisy band played from 9:30 to 12 midnight, preventing us from sleeping. We asked to be moved, were told 'No'. We asked for a refund on the room and were promised a discounted rate, presuming this, incorrectly, to be a refund, we soldiered on. They deducted £20 for the inconvenience off our 2 night stay. Unbelievable. The Chef stating 'they were not a charity'. The crockery in the breakfast room was dirty on one occasion and wet on another. The tables were not clean. The Full English breakfast was not cooked properly. The Continental breakfast on the second morning was inedible - soggy croissant and unpalatable cake. A total disaster from start to finish. Would not recommend the Crown Inn, Coniston to anyone, ever.

Review 6:Helpful, friendly Maria. Who came to our aid immediately when we advised that the shower room, on check in, was dirty.

Review 7:Lovely hotel. Staff very friendly. Clean and comfortable. Bar area has lots of atmosphere and food great. Lots of breakfast options. Perfect break for my partner and myself...happy memories. Thank you all at the Crown!

Review 8:Full English breakfast was very nice but isn't full. No beans, no black pudding, smallest piece of fried bread and only 1 sausage. Maybe I just need to check my diet!

Review 9:Staff were all very friendly. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Perfect location for exploring the Lakes.

Review 10:WiFi didn't work. Breakfast not served until 8-30 even on weekdays. Bill double charged for food. Staff answering reception tried to be helpful but were poorly informed on hotel operations and couldn't sort matters without manager (who then was very helpful but not always available).

Review 11:Clean rooms.

Review 12:A last minute booking, location brilliant, friendly staff with a good range of beers at the bar. We booked evening meal and the restaurant was full indicating good food.

Review 13:If you like to go to bed before 1am you will hear the drinkers downstairs. So heavy sleeper /Light sleeper make a choice

Review 14:Excellent Breakfast and good Pub Grub.

Review 15:No staff around when we arrived. Nice food served in bar but on a wooden board - bring back the old fashioned plate!

Review 16:Very central to village. Plenty of parking. Clean/modern room.

Review 17:The breakfast could have been better. Apart from the main Cumbrian breakfast, everything else on the menu was at an additional charge of £2.50 which seemed excessive considering the overnight charge of £90 per night

Review 18:Everything to our satisfaction.

Review 19:Friendly staff eager to please, very good standard of housekeeping. Table set in bar for breakfast to enable us to have dog with us without asking, Very comfortable stay. Good food, varied yet not suitable to all tastes.

Review 20:Going home. ( we'll be back )

Review 21:Right from the very welcoming arrival for our short break, to when we were leaving, we enjoyed the more than friendly owners and staff, the food was well cooked and well presented, the room and facilities were excellent. Absolutely loved our stay.

Review 22:Bathroom very compact. Our room no. 7 was rather small with 2 dogs. Breakfast only served 8.30 to 9.30 with no pastries or cold meats or fruit instead of cereals. Also some options had a supplement !! Front door only opens around 7.30 am so to walk the dogs or go to your car the fire escape is needed!

Review 23:Great location, good bar food well presented. Plenty of parking. Good range of beers. Very comfy bed !

Review 24:Breakfast added charge automatically even if declined to have or wanted to go out walking earlier than time of service.

Review 25:Location and friendliness of staff

Review 26:Didn't have a long enough stay!!

Review 27:Very friendly staff, the bar man went the extra mile to organise a container for my husband to take some beer home. Sorry don't know your name but it was much appreciated. Food was very good and the hotel was spotlessly clean in all areas. Well done.

Review 28:The younger staff didn't give the respect or attention needed in the service industry, they came across like they were doing you a favour by you being there and not made to feel enough like a guest. The bar/restaurant meals were different to those described in the menu and the full english breakfast was served with cold mushrooms and tomato but otherwise the food was fairly good but definitely not excellent.

Review 29:The room was comfortable and adequate.

Review 30:Only bad point was mattress retained heat

Review 31:Location very close to amenities, value for money good choice of real ales. Staff we came across very friendly, breakfast just the right amount. Didn't leave u hungry or overfilled

Review 32:The breakfast was often stale, I.E. dried bacon, over cooked egg, dried sausage etc. we had dinner on the first night only, as that took1-30 mins to be served, and was luke -warm and over cooked for one ofthe meals.

Review 33:The position, in the center of the village.

Review 34:Having booked a table for 7pm in the restaurant on our first night, we were disappointed to find there was no table set for us when we arrived. We had to wait an hour for our meals to be served and the quality of the food was not worth the price paid. I appreciate 'rustic charm' but feel that if a pub has a separate restaurant it should at least have the tables set properly with cloths or at least place mats on a clean surface. We ate elsewhere on our second evening.

Review 35:We stayed for two nights, having a double room for myself and my husband and a twin room for my mother. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with a good supply of tea, coffee and biscuits. My husband appreciated the variety of real ales available in the bar.

Review 36:Wifi connection is suck! Could not go online at all even in the pub!! The staff were too busy in the dining area and no one at the reception for help.

Review 37:Good location

Review 38:Did not realise at first that you had to use fire exit when taking dog out in night x all doors locked x room 12 extremely hot and very uncomfortable we did not get very much sleep x

Review 39:Very friendly staff esp Andy and owners daughter excellent x food very nice too x

Review 40:The breakfast was served very early, 8.30 - 9.30, would of liked a bit longer in bed!

Review 41:The room was really nice and clean and the staff were very friendly.

Review 42:Bed wasn't great but we are used to a Somnus. Wi-Fi hopeless unless you are sat in the bar, non existent in our room or on the outside tables

Review 43:pleasant helpful staff, very good breakfast, standard pub food, but it's a pub and excellent location

Review 44:Wi fi was sporadic but it didn't bother us as we were on holiday. Friday night was noisy due to live music in the bar. Again it didn't bother us too much. All other nights were quieter than we anticipated.

Review 45:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, very clean with ensuite and shower. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. We ate dinner several evenings and enjoyed our meals. Our two dogs were made welcome too.

Review 46:Arriving late and very tired the staff went out of their way to welcome us and ensure we had everything we needed. The view from our room (7) was beautiful. Excellent food.

Review 47:Poor wifi even in public areas. This is important as poor phone signal in general in area. Wifi was a factor for choosing the hotel. Eggs over cooked each morning and the temperature of breakfast not piping hot. Also small fruit bowls not replenished during breakfast. Packed lunch inferior to other hotels, no water or crisps.

Review 48:Comfy bed, clean crisp bedding, thick fluffy towels, great views from the bedroom. Friendly staff.

Review 49:Unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable , The Crown Inn let its self down with a couple of mattress that should have been replaced long time ago.

Review 50:Had a lovely long weekend at the Crown Inn staff very friendly room we had was nice size and very clean. (Could have done with a larger TV in this size of room). Food in bar and restraunt and for breakfast was very nice.

Review 51:The place could do with a lick of paint, we stayed in room 14, which smelt of cooking / fat particularly the bathroom (it's right next to the vent from the kitchen) the staff also use an entrance under the window for breaks, so if you don't mind the smell of cigarette smoke wafting in, you'll be fine.

Review 52:Loved the location, staff were friendly, we ate in the restaurant, both the food and service was excellent.

Review 53:Rather sporadic wifi.

Review 54:In centre of village, with good parking. Comfortable room and good lunch and evening bar and restaurant meals in the pub, which is handy, and an excellent breakfast.

Review 55:Warm water from the cold tap in the room on occasions. Some items on the menu unavailable. This could have been due to staying on a Monday. No biggie though!

Review 56:Staff, location. The food was okay, as expected really. Interesting black pudding, haggis combination at breakfast.

Review 57:We had a major misunderstanding re extending our stay. The staff, however, were great & found us alternative accommodation but it did cost us an extra £30

Review 58:All the activities, the location - what an exquisite place. The history, the Swallows and Amazons boat trip. Climbing the Old Man

Review 59:Being good distance walkers we went for the cooked full english breakfast but it was not that substantial 1 thin sasuage,2 rashers of cold bacon 1/2 hard tomato and an egg :(. the room was nice clean but the bed was like sleeping on an ironing board very hard mattress.

Review 60:The location is great nice clean frendly & quiet. great starting point for walks with stunning views.

Review 61:Breakfast was disappointing, small portions and cool in temperature.

Review 62:Lovely, clean hotel with helpful staff. Situated in the beautiful village of Coniston.

Review 63:public wifi seemed only available downstairs, which was a blessing and proved that you can still live without it.

Review 64:clean spacious room, with lovely staff that looked after us well.

Review 65:The room was very clean and spacious, the only fault we found was the mattress was too hard.

Review 66:must compliment the chef on the food. The choice at breakfast, well spoilt for choice.

Review 67:Food we chose on BH Monday evening was disappointing. The soup had too much cumin in it and the steak was rather tasteless. A shame because the breakfasts were lovely.

Review 68:Staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were spotless and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 69:The evening meal was poor, with a lot "off" the menu and the potatoes and chips were very hard. We only ate an evening meal once.

Review 70:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were nice,

Review 71:food not hot dineing room needs some attention and too many things off the menu were unavailable

Review 72:the staff were very pleasent and the bedrooms were comfortable, good location

Review 73:As an older couple a lift would have been handy, as suitcases are heavy to lug upstairs. Unfortunately we stayed over a holiday weekend (which we hadn't realised when we booked) and the dining room was fully booked, so we had to look elsewhere for a meal. Breakfast was great, cereals, fruit, toast, coffee as well as a full English cooked breakfast. Unfortunately with the hotel being full we had to wait half an hour or so for our breakfast arriving at the table, but it was worth the wait. No wifi in room, though apparently it was available in the bar. It would have been good to have a couple of chairs in the bedroom - the only place to sit was the bed.

Review 74:Lovely comfy bed and newish bathroom. Nicely decorated - and the room actually had a window that opened!

Review 75:Not the best beer in Coniston but the answer is to walk 50 metres to the 'inn' for a huge variety of outstanding real ale.

Review 76:Great location, friendly staff and a comfortable room. The breakfast were hearty and varied and all the staff would happily cater for the pickiest of customer.

Review 77:we got completely ripped off by a taxi driver who charged us £14 for a 3 mile ride. The return journey cost £4 - explain that !! We are writing to the taxi officials in Cumbria.

Review 78:Friendly people, stunning views, good food and great weather for the time of year

Review 79:Are room has been painted that day, the fumes were a bit to much, but just kept the windows open,

Review 80:Close to some beautiful walks, close to shop's and pubs, nice breakfast

Review 81:The bed was a little firm

Review 82:Beautiful location with traditional bedrooms and excellent views out to the old Man of Coniston in our room. The pub serves a wide range of locally brewed beers and has a warm, friendly atmosphere. Breakfast was prompt and the scrambled egg very good. Staff were very attentive.

Review 83:Lousy weather, but nothing to not like about the hotel.

Review 84:Good pub grub & (a limited choice of) good beer. Friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. Room a little bit on the small side for the price, but to be expected in an old building. Ample parking. Dog allowed in the bar.

Review 85:Rooms 3 & 4 The heating and hot water system did not work, in oursection of the hotel and although a vague attempt was made to re-startit, the problem was not solved during our three night stay. We werefrozen literally! We might have expected a rebate, but were told that wehad 'a good offer' already - that courtesy of booking.com! Alsothere were no chairs in the room, although there was a table and chairsout in the corridor. We 'borrowed' them! The staff seemed ratherdisorganised - we were handed the key on arrival, and had to ask fordirections to the room!

Review 86:The environment. The link with the Spa at Elterwater (very nice) Theroom looked good - clean and spacious.

Review 87:Peculiar, perhaps to me. It was very mild and the choice was duvet or nothing. I was too hot with a duvet on buy cold with nothing. An alternative would have been nice. Will not stop me going again. Would just take a sheet and thin blanket.

Review 88:Most things

Review 89:The smell of disinfectant in the dining room. Its off putting. i would prefer to smell my breakfast cooking.

Review 90:Attentive staff. The rooms are spaceous and clean. Plenty of towel and a hot shower with bath option.

Review 91:Nothing.

Review 92:Friendly staff, good breakfast. Great value. The room was spacious and clean. The bar relaxing and comfortable. Perfect location, in the centre of the village. Thoroughly recommended.

Review 93:the food was expensive we had to leave on the last day at 8.45 the breakfast was 8.30 i asked the staff if we could have the meal 10 mins earlier she just said no

Review 94:the bed was comfortable

Review 95:Not having a fridge in my room.

Review 96:I'm a country girl from where i come from so i do admire the beaut of country and wonders of the creator, how maginificent he has created the world. Just amazing.

Review 97:The poor breakfast waitress was rushed off her feet so was grumpy and stressed. She needs help with the job before she has an accident!!

Review 98:The location was good and the room was comfortable

Review 99:1. Bathroom - bath and sink plugs had broken chains, screws in bath panel had the no screw head cover caps. Had been taken or knocked off and not replaced. 2. Bedroom - wardrobe door handle missing and replaced with a length of string. 3. Dining Room - wall light bulbs burnt out, chandelier hanging from the ceiling with its wires, dirty tables, not cleaned from the evening meal session from the night before. There was even sugar left under the sugar bowls. We were first down for breakfast each morning so know that the tables had not been cleaned. Also, and a big minus here was the dirty knife and spoon that was left for us to use. Obviously not checked before placing on the table. When informed the not so user friendly waitress never even passed a comment or apology. The bar - extortionate prices. The same round of drinks were around £2 cheaper in the Yewdale just around the corner. With a little effort this place could be a whole lot better. I'll never find out if that happens 'cause I won't be staying here again.

Review 100:Location, bedroom was warm, clean, comfortable. Breakfast was good and adequate. Good room service by nice young man.

Review 101:Where do I start? - Very poor welcome when we arrived - Hard beds - Very noisy from the bar beneath the room which went on after midnight - Dirty shower - Collided with a member of staff and suffered a severely bruised toe. No follow up from him to check I was OK and apparently, no accident book completed.

Review 102:Very good central location in the middle of Coniston. Breakfast was good except for supplementary price for some items on the menu.

Review 103:decoration of room a bit 'tired' and dated. beds uncomfortable as very hard

Review 104:friendly staff, good food, Robinson's beer. Intersting shops in Coniston and ideal location for walks in the Fells about Coniston

Review 105:The mattress was very basic and needed padding out with a blanket the review would have been very good otherwise and this was the only blemish on the crown inn.

Review 106:The breakfasts were excellent. Staff we're very friendly and helpful Location and parking were very good

Review 107:I have no complaints or dislikes.

Review 108:Good food, good beer, clean, comfortable accommodation. Excellent location for all that the lakes has to offer.Nothing

Review 109:On the morning of departure day, we had a set appointment for an outdoor activity and were in a hurry at the breakfast and told her so. Yet after we finished the breakfast and asked her to let us do the check-out, she and other staff neglected us for about ten minutes.

Review 110:When choosing food off the menu, the specialities were very small portions and not good value for money. We felt the meals and deserts were overpriced.

Review 111:The location is excellent and the pub has a good ambience. Breakfast was good with a varied selection. Rooms were clean although our room No7 was in need of updating Room No3 was lovely and spacious. Staff were friendly.

Review 112:Indifferent staff Very hard mattress Poor choice at breakfast

Review 113:Location, easy access to Coniston Water and facilities in the village. Large en-suite bathroom

Review 114:Breakfast was bery poor, the continental version was just 3 bread rollsin a basket! Full english was very greasy. And the breakfast waitress(scottish) was very grumpy and lumped plates down etc. and impolite.Room had a very small window, so not a lot of natural light orventilation. We were over the kitchen which was very noisy and had theradio blaring out. In room was about 40% overpriced imho.

Review 115:Good beer, plenty of car parking space.

Review 116:breakfast seemed to be hit and miss for full english. First morning we had toast with our breakfast, beans but no mushrooms. Second day we had no beans, no toast but mushroom. No iron or ironing board available or information as to whether it was available. Rooms were very hot.

Review 117:comfy beds, good policte service, nice breakfast, clean rooms and great location

Review 118:On arrival we checked in and told the receptionist our two friend's would be arriving later. When they did arrive they were told no room was booked. They phoned around and got them in another hotel. It ruined the weekend. We only stayed the one night instead of two.

Review 119:Did not have wifi access. Did not think breakfast as good value as previous time we stayed. Our room above kitchen so was very hot. Be good room in winter but not summer.

Review 120:Location of hotel. Bus stop just over the road. Central in Coniston. Lovely rooms. Near to the lake. Have stayed here before but has been upgraded since our last stay.

Review 121:Location is excellent with access to the mountains and lakes on the doorstep. The Inn also was very welcoming, with good food and character.

Review 122:Little on the pricey side for the room but the rest of the stay made up for that ..

Review 123:Good food, good real ales attentive staff and great location.

Review 124:Beds too hard...no hot water

Review 125:The food Nice but could be better

Review 126:been to this hotel in the past first rate then and noe

Review 127:Room would have been fine if it had a double bed, but the twin beds made it awkward to move about two at a time.

Review 128:Good food, good beer, comfortable bed

Review 129:Village location

Review 130:bathroom was almost inaccessible!!

Review 131:very helpful and friendly staff- great food

Review 132:The room was a bit too warm

Review 133:Pet friendly

Review 134:Excellent stay

Review 135:TV not working, beds a bit uncomfortable

Review 136:Cozy and clean

Review 137:Nothing

Review 138:Everyone was so friendly

Review 139:Staff we friendly & efficient.
