Reviews for The Corner House Hotel
Review 1:The bathroom is too cold. No heater and the shower stream is too poor.
Review 2:The size of the room is very good - big and spacy. Bed is firm. Nicely packed fridge.
Review 3:Noisy location next to a main road (although nothing can be done about that of course!). Hotel is clean but inexplicably much of the paintwork badly needs redoing. Very creaky floorboards in bathroom. Extremely low water pressure in shower (barely a dribble). WiFi connection had an invalid certificate and is therefore insecure, so I used my own 4G connection instead - this reflects very poorly on the hotel as a venue for business travellers and needs to be fixed.
Review 4:Very clean room. Extremely comfortable bed (the most important thing during a hotel stay). Superb breakfast. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere.
Review 5:Our Room Nr 47 was very very cold. Room 47 is on the NE corner 2nd floor and as the old building is not insulated this room needs to be heated most of the day not just on timer. The corridors were hot compared to Room 47 Room 47 was a bit small and cramped On the 2nd day staff adjusted the heating so it was a bit warmer
Review 6:Breakfast Good Vegetarian Choice Real Ale at Bar Near town centre
Review 7:the room i had was opening onto a flat roof and i like to have window open and there was a smell of damp from roof by the time i noticed ie in bed it was far to late to request a change.
Review 8:Difficult to exit hotel at busy time s due to location
Review 9:Comfortable room clean and well maintained plenty of parking spaces easy walk into town lovely breakfast
Review 10:The road noise was awful. Although I'm not a light sleeper nomally this bothered me and I had disturbed sleep during the night and none from about 5.45 am. I'll not be going there again unless they are able to guarantee a quite place to sleep.
Review 11:The place is fine inside although I seemed to have the room furthest away from reception and this involved lots of up and down stairs.
Review 12:It was felt that there could be a shelf in the shower area for toiletries. There could be another main light switch near the bed area.
Review 13:The re-vamp of the rooms and new decoration in the hotel. Also the improved shower facility in the disabled room.
Review 14:Room had no temperature control. When I asked for a shower cap I was told not available because not hygienic -how can this be possible when it is disposable !Not value for money because my colleagues paid less for similar room. I queried this but to no avail.
Review 15:breakfast enjoyable but forgot my scarambled eggs
Review 16:Nothing. We had a delightful stay :)
Review 17:Bedroom was spacious and had a very comfortable bed. Fully stocked mini-bar, lovely tea/coffee facilities and nice toiletries in the bathroom. Dinner was amazing - This hotel has a very good chef. My partner was celebrating his 60th birthday and we couldn't have asked for a more delicious meal and accompanying wine. Thank you to everyone for making our special occasion a stay to remember and we will definitely be returning!
Review 18:The water pressure in the bathroom was so bad that you couldn't flush the toilet and taking a shower was a struggle. I expect more at these prices.
Review 19:comfortable bed, nice room.
Review 20:Felt staff could have been a little more welcoming when arriving at the hotel. Staff knew I was at the desk but continued with their own tasks in hand without any salutation. A minor point but still a prequisite in the hospitality industry irrespective of what standard of hotel you are.
Review 21:Good accommodation in a well placed location especially for the price paid.
Review 22:We were put in an annexe room adjacent to the car park. This was cold and smelt of damp. We had to ask for a heater as the heating was not working. Felt excluded from rest of Hotel.
Review 23:Location to town centre. Modern room which was well decorated and well furnished.
Review 24:The stay was fine. Booked online advertised as including breakfast. Signage in the premises also promote this. I was called on departure for additional payment. Sharp practice - beware
Review 25:Friendly welcome and very good value for the price paid. Room had all the facilities, tea and coffee etc with s mini bar stocked with some essentials. Room clean and staff friendly and attentive. Thank you
Review 26:staff no interaction with customer eg nice day or where areyou from or going no local maps 7.30 wake call never arrived just had time to jump into pre ordered cab so tea or coffee usedin room didnt qualify for breakfast because we booked through you they could have ofered us breakfast for a charge but no so no wake up call would have killed that anyway way to mutch money for what we recieved no recomendation from us
Review 27:Road repair work started at 9am on a sunday morning outside our window! No lunch service was available on the saturday we were there.
Review 28:Breakfast was great Room was comfortable and clean Staff were extremely helpful
Review 29:The staff did not seem to coordinate their efforts at all - at breakfast they were very slow to replenish anything on the buffet which was running out. Having stored luggage in the downstairs disabled toilet for guests who had booked out, the member of staff could not find the key on our return and we had to spend a very worried time while she attempted to find it. She also did not seem to think she should finish dealing with one customer rather than deserting them (without explanation or apology) to deal with another.
Review 30:Our room was ground floor as requested, which meant no stairs for my partner
Review 31:Arrived at 10pm after 6 hours of travelling and not so much as a "Welcome, How was journey?" on arrival. No information about breakfast times etc
Review 32:When approached staff were helpful
Review 33:We were given a room located above the function room which had a wedding with load music making it, as agreed by the, hotel staff impossible to sleep. On our complaint we were offered and moved into a staff room located up steep stairs as the hotel was full. This room was very basic with few amenities and small. We booked some months in advance and felt the hotel should have allocated us a room away from the function area and given our room to some of the wedding guests who would not have required it until after the function ceased.
Review 34:Breakfast
Review 35:We were in room 46 and that area of the hotel is in dire need of decorating and updating to say the least! Disappointing as last year we were in the main hotel and this was fine, and we gave a good review. The room was small and shabby. Little things like chipped paint and a bath panel badly fitted and made out of hardboard. The extractor fan in bathroom not working. that whole area looked like 1970s student lodgings! With Travelodge and Prem Inn etc, in the picture do you really want it to look this bad!?? The staff were nice and helpful but they weren't as on the ball as last year, when they were very professional, in the bar and the reception. Not sure why there was sellotape across the stairwell !? Didn't think the breakfast was a good as last year either, although the choice was good.
Review 36:The main hotel is pleasant and the bar good. Location good, staff friendly enough.
Review 37:Rooms were very small & the bed was the most uncomfortable I've tried to sleep in, ended up with back ache. Could do wi decorating as it looks very worn inside & wifi didn't work
Review 38:Way over-priced for the standard, which was more like a student dorm. No air conditioning, terrible mattress, cramped little room, cheap materials - over £90 a night is insulting.
Review 39:The breakfast was surprisingly good and included in the cost, and the location is fairly central.
Review 40:The staff were exceptionally good. The location was excellent for our needs. The food was excellent, breakfast, lunch and dinner with a very good selection.
Review 41:Nothing to dislike
Review 42:Good location close to centre of town. Some nice pubs nearby showing signs of life even on a Wednesday. Top Indian nearby. Good sized room that was clean and comfortable. Very nice breakfast. Good value for money.
Review 43:Couldn't close the bathroom door without moving the bed. Definitely needs decorating and a bigger wardrobe if staying longer than a couple of days.
Review 44:ideal location, warm and friendly staff and gorgeous food.
Review 45:Place had a musty smell to it and our room was small even for two of us. Far too overpriced for what we got. Would not stay there again ever.
Review 46:Only a five minute walk into town.
Review 47:My room was all the way at the back of the hotel, I had a heavy suitcase and had to drag it up two flights of stairs, staff saw me struggling but offered no help. Iron in room did not work and the fruit in the fruit salad at breakfast was old and soft
Review 48:I wish there was an indoor smoking area but I know that's just a wish.. it's such a pain to have to stand outside for a smoke. However you do get to meet other demonized smokers and actually we're a friendly lot!!
Review 49:I know the hotel and stay there when ever I'm in Taunton visiting relations. It's a lovely hotel and everything in it suits me.
Review 50:Very friendly staff, lovely room - but it would have been nice to have had a couple of comfortable chairs in the room to relax in. There is plenty of room for them. Food was excellent and very good value. Dinner was superb and fantastic selection for breakfast.
Review 51:Noise of the hotel caused a very restless night with our 3 year old. Noise from the road and the room above was not nice.
Review 52:Evening food and breakfast was good. Staff were friendly.
Review 53:The view was a bit rubbish, the window looked towards other walls of the hotel.
Review 54:The staff were very friendly right from the beginning, and the free cookie in the hotel room was a nice touch :)
Review 55:Rooms were extremely small, we booked a standard double but must have been given a compact double as so small and cramped. Room looked like it needed updating, poor decor, not very clean. Booked two rooms together but given rooms far away from each other Very disappointed
Review 56:The food was of a good quality, tasty, quick and hot. Central location.
Review 57:No bad experiences, but the hotel is situated in a noisy environment with heavy traffic running along the A38 next to the garden. It would have been nice to have had a quiet room, a lounge with tables and chairs. The only place in the hotel where anything like that existed was the entrance hall - but it is listed building and I should think Carlos is restricted to what can be structurally altered. No lift, but what does that matter? However, people less agile than me might have found the stairs rather trying.
Review 58:The food was very fine: simple but well prepared and cooked and served with efficiency and courtesy. I liked the staff, all of them, for their qualities of hospitability and helpfulness and I liked my room very much indeed.
Review 59:My 74 year old mother had to step into a bath with no rail to have a shower. As we departed the girl at the reception barely lifted her head. Could do better in that regard. Found the staff to be efficient but not friendly.
Review 60:We ate lunch in the restaurant and the service was good and food was tasty. The hotel was very clean.
Review 61:The only fault with the room was that the TV wasn't working but when I explained this to the receptionist when I checked out his reply suggested that he was taking it seriously and would get it fixed pronto.I was only there one night and the lack of a TV was hardly a problem.
Review 62:The hotel was well located in relation to the town centre but a little further away from the Railway Station. The room was big and spacious and the bathroom was spacious too.Coffe & tea making facilities were useful.
Review 63:When booking this hotel, there was no mention of breakfast or the fact that it was free if you booked direct with the hotel. In fact there was no link to the hotel's website. We booked 2 doubles for a family party. I didn't realise about the breakfast until I emailed the hotel following their confirmation email. They were totally unhelpful. On arrival, the reception staff weren't very welcoming - not even a smile!! Our rooms were in the annexe - had to go outside in the rain to get to them. And the annexe really needs to be upgraded - dark brown & cream peeling paint, and grubby carpet! Room ok, bathroom a strange layout, shower in corner, and very narrow access round the sink. Bed fairly comfy, breakfast good. Waiting staff friendly. Rather disappointed though - we won't be back!
Review 64:Location. Breakfast was good
Review 65:Nothing to report
Review 66:Room was clean, comfortable and had free wifi. Complimentary milk and water in fridge a nice touch. Breakfast was superb - freshly cooked high quality ingredients. Ive had far worse breakfasts at hotels charging 5 times the rate
Review 67:Arrived and given directions to our room and after 10 minutes of wondering the corridors and bumping into the maintenance Man twice we eventually found out way back to reception where staff led us to our room. The bed was a double unlike the 2 singles requested but this had been resolved by the time we returned from our night out. The radiators were on full and it was hot! Also the patio doors wouldn't open and had apparently just been fixed. In need of a bit of tlc
Review 68:Friendly staff on arrival and throughout stay. Comfy bed
Review 69:The reception staff were really helpful. The restaurant manger also really friendly and helpful. Food was excellent with a fabulous choice at breakfast.
Review 70:Apparent very thin walls. Enough to clearly and loudly hear the incredible snoring of the guy next door. Rooms may benefit from a refresh, ours was looking somewhat tired, but was clean. Note: You will only receive a 'free breakfast' (signs throughout the hotel) if you book direct with the hotel. These extra charges weren't made clear when booking on Booking.com. £10 a head per night. No dramas, but the extra £40 wasn't apparent until the bill landed on checkout.
Review 71:The hotel ground floor itself is very good, nice restaurant and bar area. A period feel, decorated well. Room didn't get any road noise. Breakfasts were great, staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 72:For the price of £80 ive had much bigger rooms in a travel lodge. The room was tiny and very hot also very noisy not sure from what we think it must have been the kitchen fan!
Review 73:Free wifi was very handy. Location was great.x
Review 74:Nothing really, there was a bit of noise but you get that everywhere
Review 75:I really like this little hotel, have stayed before and it did not disappoint. The small fridge in the room is great to have, staff are very helpful and the restaurant is great. Yes it is a bit of a rabbit warren and corridors are narrow, but it is such good value I don't mind
Review 76:No bad comments to make
Review 77:Good location, friendly staff, good breakfast and bar in the hotel. Lovely big room with a bay window overlooking the front of the hotel.
Review 78:Breakfast self-service presentation a little disappointing, though cooked breakfast good.
Review 79:Quiet room at night. Good evening meal, with excellent waiter and waitress service. Reception staff very helpful.
Review 80:Room, mattress & hotel decor grubby. Could do with a refresh Its a pity the hallways and my room didn't reflect the Bar area feel
Review 81:Bar area looks good & that whats sold the room to me.
Review 82:we had the disabled room on the ground floor. the bathroom, was a wetroom which flooded after my partner had a shower and still hadn't drained away after an hour which meant that i was unable to shower and had to wear a pair of shoes in the bathroom for a wash and shave.
Review 83:Great location on the town centres doorstep, staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast menu very extensive and freshly cooked to order. good parking at rear of hotel.
Review 84:If anything at all, then budget rooms can be ratherA tranquil haven small, but they are clean and the value is terrific
Review 85:Everything, from the superb staff to the excellent location and quirky bar/restaurant (with wine shop!)
Review 86:online I had to book 'room only'. I would have liked to book breakfast, but couldn't see how to do it, and I wasn't offered the add-on when I booked in. My fault; I could have asked, but didn't remember till later
Review 87:lovely food in the restaurant
Review 88:My room was small but clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Wine & Sausage Restaurant was superb. There was an excellent selection of food and it was delicious. Also a very varied choice of wines by the glass.
Review 89:the floors can creek quite a bit all over the place, and one member of staff I found quite rude and seen his job as to much of an effort.
Review 90:Nice size rooms and good facilities, along with some good deals as well :)
Review 91:None at all
Review 92:All good, wi fi wasn't connecting at all though but not sure why. Beautiful breakfast, staff was fantastic. We arrived at 10am and staff were so kind they let us check in instead of waiting till 3pm. Highly recommend this hotel, will go back for sure. Nice and clean.
Review 93:You had a Wedding party in, This was a big disturbance, The music was very loud in my room, sleep was impossible. I mentioned this to one of your staff on checkout, he said they were a bit rowdy, not the case, they just had a normal wedding reception and party dance after. Perhaps letting rooms to non wedding guest on a wedding night is not suitable.
Review 94:Your Staff were friendly, I dined in your Restaurant and the food excellent.
Review 95:Signs that first room we had had been smoked in. The doors are very flimsy and when combined with quite a few inconsiderate noisy guests - it was well after 2 pm before there was no chatter in the corridors - did not make for a good night's sleep.
Review 96:Helpful friendly staff. We were moved to a superior room immediately when I complained about the smell of cigarette smoke in the first room we were given. The food is good and reasonably priced.
Review 97:I was out til quite late and was very aware as I was walking around the room before bed of some squeaky floorboards, so ended up getting ready for bed on tiptoes.
Review 98:The bed was good, with nice bedding and pillows. The room a compact double was just like in the picture on the website and a plenty of space for me to spread out as I was on my own. It was only a short walk into town The hotel parking was fine.
Review 99:Creeking floors, carpet needed cleaning in bedroom, very noisy bathroom system. Claimed to be recently refurbished which was not apparent to us. Car park entrance and exit very narrow. Problems with wi-fi.
Review 100:Location convenient to town centre. Sufficient car parking places.
Review 101:Cracked wash basin. Not enough storage space to unpack. Having to pay extra for breakfast when there were posters up everywhere advertising free breakfast if you booked direct, for the same price.
Review 102:The lovely Windows, the old building, pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Fridge with free fresh milk. Lovely shortbread biscuits to enjoy with the tea and coffee.
Review 103:Trouble with my room key-it just wouldn't work but the staff always came up & sorted it out
Review 104:The room itself, really comfortable bed and everything I needed
Review 105:Think that the price was slightly over what you would expect of a hotel of this standard, If breakfast had been included, it would have been right. That cleaner did not knock before entering room in the morning. Might have had a shock...her that is, poor thing.
Review 106:Food was excellent, especially breakfast. Restaurant and bar quite relaxing. The bed, did not look inviting, but I must admit that I have had one of the best night's sleep here. (Stay in hotels weekly).
Review 107:Boiler room was quite noisy.
Review 108:Staff are all very friendly. Restaurant is a very high standard and the wine list is excellent. Bar is quaint and relaxing.
Review 109:Scrabbled egg and salmon breakfast was soggy. The exit is very tight and narrow. It needs a wider turning space to enter it. Access to the bedroom was difficult, up and down stairs and narrow coridors.
Review 110:Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 111:Room was very loud as next to the bar, room 1 is a disabled room, it's enterance was blocked by people from the bar overflowing to reception. Shower blocked and leaked into room. Heating was on full so very hot, but windows opened nice and wide.
Review 112:Few mins walk from town, good value, good staff.
Review 113:Can't think of anything
Review 114:The staff were execlent. Made the stay enjoyable, the Hotel is very cosy and warm, really close to the town centre. Going back there in April.
Review 115:Double bed very comfortable but my husband had to climb over to get out and as we are middle of the night widdlers it was not so easy!
Review 116:Very friendly, helpful staff and ideal location for our purposes we certainly will come again
Review 117:Only one issue - short on toilet paper - but plenty of tissues so no problem.
Review 118:Extremely pleasant, efficient staff where nothing is too much trouble. The dog is always welcome and we have a room that goes straight outside each time we stay.
Review 119:We had a problem with person in room above who seemed to like wandering about at midnight with what sounded like heavy boots on but a quick call to reception sorted this,NOT the hotel's fault and we had a good night's sleep.
Review 120:This was our second visit to this hotel and once again it didn't disappoint, friendly helpful staff, good food, clean room and comfortable bed.Location is good as town centre is a 5 minute walk away.we will definitely return.
Review 121:When you are staying in a town, on business, hotels have to work, be welcoming and offer some sensible comforts...such as a brilliant breakfast. Corner House does.
Review 122:Sometimes when I get a deal from the net the smaller rooms are cramped and not so comfortable but this last stay was great .
Review 123:The staff were very helpful nothing was too much trouble.
Review 124:Signage to rooms (numbers going down from 21 - but nothing to help you find a lower number at the end of the corridor.
Review 125:Excellent breakfast, friendly and helpful staff.
Review 126:The room in the annexe was big but smelt a bit damp, we only had one room key so made getting in and out of the two doors complicated. The room(40) was large but shabby in places and could do with some TLC, the car park was a challenge, thank goodness my husband was driving I would not have got out.
Review 127:Very welcoming, the bar was good , good location.
Review 128:Matchbox sized room and not being made aware that there would be live, loud music played outside our window until midnight. Room was so hot we had to have the window open even tho heating was turned off!
Review 129:Room was nice and clean. Very convenient to town centre.
Review 130:Room was absolutely freezing! Heat was off, and no extra covers. Turned heat on when we got home (after midnight) but took a long time to heat up, so consequently did not sleep very well.
Review 131:Nice atmosphere in bar area. We were only there for one night for family dinner (elsewhere) so only slept there, no breakfast eaten.
Review 132:I am not sure if the room would also serve as a double, the bed had a small double bed but I think it would be a bit small for 2. It was perfect for me, however. I had been forewarned about the tight exit from the car park and was ok, just, in my rented fiat 500 but it would have been super stressful if I had had a bigger car!
Review 133:Really cosy, practical and suited my need perfectly. The room was quiet and clean, warm and had everything I needed (apart from a herbal tea bag!). Small but cosy.
Review 134:The shower/wet room flooded after a shower causing the whole bathroom floor area to be submerged in water (around the toilet and washbasin) I told the guy on checkout and he already knew about it!
Review 135:Staff good and helpful
Review 136:Rooms small, shabby and very hot. All three of rooms my colleagues and I stayed in were too hot to sleep comfortably with no means of cooling down.
Review 137:Restaurant and bar
Review 138:Tight exit of car park when you have a big car.
Review 139:The Welcome, the decor, and the happy faces. They were looking to improve thus making your stay better
