Reviews for Leopold Hotel
Review 1:The room was too hot even with air conditioning on, but we was informed that we could have a fan so not a problem
Review 2:Very friendly staff, very clean, and had everything in hotel room that you would need, and prime location.
Review 3:The mezzanine bedroom area is likely to be warm as the air conditioning is at ground floor level.
Review 4:The staff were responsive to every request and addressed all issues raised in a prompt and courteous way. The Leopold Hotel provides almost every conceivable facility and if you can't find what you need - just ask!
Review 5:The hotel needs a larger sign to make it easier to find. One of our party was dropped in the same street to the hotel by the taxi driver, but couldn't find it! The air conditioning unit in our room was faulty - if you set the temperature to cool, the unit would work briefly then turn itself off.
Review 6:Very central location, very good for restaurants. Good room, comfy bed. Very attentive staff, and the food was very good. On the whole it was a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. I'd definitely use this hotel again if I was staying in Sheffield.
Review 7:My breakfast was not good. I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon. The eggs were not scrambled properly and the salmon tasted rather old, in fact I only ate one small piece. Also I had the grapefruit which had started to fizz. On the positive side, the yogurt compote was delicious and the rest of my party's full English was fine.
Review 8:Excellent accommodation, have stayed here before.
Review 9:The breakfast wasn't the greatest quality for a hotel that considers itself a boutique. They would be better adopting a less is more approach and investing into the quality of the ingredients which were not the best.
Review 10:The staff were wonderful. From checking in when they made excellent restaurant recommendations to the phone call to find out if everything was ok with our room. Excellent.
Review 11:I couldn't regulate the temperature of the shower. Perhaps it was my fault but I came out looking like a lobster.
Review 12:Central location and friendly staff.
Review 13:Booked this for my Mothers Surprise 70th Birthday. They stayed in a Mezzanine Suite - they absolutely loved the hotel and their room - said they felt they could have been anywhere in the world! Went to see a show at the Crucible and this was great because it was within walking distance. They would definately return and recommend anyone to book for that special occasion.
Review 14:Some noise from courtyard area at rear of hotel - you should expect some with a city centre location but due to the design even the most moderate noise can be amplified to an annoying level.
Review 15:Good value, good location, friendly & clean
Review 16:Aircon on ground floor meant the mezzanine floor was not cooled! Bed was worse than a premier inn! Paying for parking that is not attached to the hotel!
Review 17:Great rooms, coffee machine, sleeping & shaving kits. Movies on offer. Overall very happy but let down by a few points.
Review 18:Upon arrival we were greeted very warmly and having checked in to our room we got a call to ask if everything was o k which we have not had before and greatly appreciated. Also its location in the heart of sheffield.
Review 19:No negative comments.
Review 20:This was a last minute booking for a quick trip to Sheffield. The hotel was excellently placed within a beautiful square and easy access to the city centre. We were very happy with our stay and would certainly be returning in future.
Review 21:Stayed here as a result of an offer I saw; however I felt we were given the worst rooms in the hotel as a result of this and our view consisted of a brick wall
Review 22:Staff were very attentive and genuine. Location was perfect.
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:We booked the last standard double room for the night and were allocated an accessible room with a wet room ensuite. Although not necessary for us, I was very pleased with quality of the accessible facilities (shower chair, support railings etc); the layout and cleanliness of the room etc. were especially good too. The cental location of the hotel was fantastic and pleasently quiet from external noise; which made our stay just perfect - I will definitely be recommending the Leopold to friends and family!
Review 25:Heating didnt work and room was freezing but staff were helpful, they actually upgraded us to a better and bigger room.
Review 26:Lovely place to stay, right in the centre, few restaurants next door, very clean.
Review 27:Would have preferred room with windows not skylight
Review 28:Great central location, but still quiet, and liked idea of mini fridge and complimetary water, nice touch.
Review 29:Pair of underwear found in room. Presumably from previous occupant and not spotted by cleaning staff. Cold room until heating came on about six pm.
Review 30:Location. Staff. Nice bar. Hotel is an old school with lovely old photos and artefacts.
Review 31:Nothing.
Review 32:It was a nice old but well kept building with lots of character right in the centre of the city. The staff were very helpful and the surrounding restaurants excellent.
Review 33:Poor lighting in room. I have reported thus every time I have stayed her but nothing is done. When traveling on business you need to be able to see to work. The desk was almost unusable due to all the tea and coffee faculties. Nice to have these but there was space in the room for another table.
Review 34:Excellent city centre location. Independent boutique hotel
Review 35:Nothing bad to report...a great stay overall
Review 36:Nice rooms with lovely little touches...the staff were a stand out, very helpful indeed. Very comfortable beds also
Review 37:No toilet brush is disgusting. I spoke to the duty manager about thisand his argument falls short . Infection risk is a load of rubbish. Ithink the fact that one has the option to leave it dirty or use yourhand into the bowl to clean with toilet papers renders the argumenttotally stupid. The germs you are afraid of will spread even more so. Iknow I am a state registered nurse in Sweden and think you shouldreconsider your stand on this
Review 38:Lovely place and location
Review 39:The breakfast was OK, but very expensive. Wifi was slow.
Review 40:Very comfortable and clean room. Extremely nice staff. Atmospheric old school building, with charming pictures from the school. Nice and quiet. Very central.
Review 41:No integral car park but at least it was only a 10 min walk away, don't take too much luggage if you're carrying it all yourself. In excess of £25 of drinks from the Bar charged to our room which we had not had. The staff did agree to remove the charges once it was pointed out the Bar bill signatures bore no comparison to my own. Make sure you check your bill carefully!
Review 42:Location very central to Sheffield City Centre
Review 43:My room was like a sauna on entering which was soon rectified. Flush on toilet was not good. Room 183, but I did tell reception on checking out. There was also a musty/damp smell on ground floor which wasn't nice.
Review 44:Location was good. Staff were helpful. Bathroom products nice. Tea/coffee and biscuits lovely.
Review 45:The sink isn't the best. Put it on and got soaked!! Design wasn't thought through
Review 46:Polite staff, nice big room with living area and adequate bathroom. Hotel is close to all the shops and to the venue where we was going too.
Review 47:If you are staying over a weekend and go to bed early, make sure you ask for a room away from the back of the hotel, which looks out onto Leopold Square, which was very noisy (even in December) with people talking and shouting, as well as loud music playing.
Review 48:Spotless, lovely furnishings in the rooms, comfortable bed, stylish. Friendly staff. Tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits and complimentary bottled water, which is always nice.
Review 49:The toilet didn't flush too easily and we had to hold the button down for a while for anything to happen. Nothing else really to complain about. Overall a fabulous experience.
Review 50:Spacious and modern room. Loved the nespresso machine in the room and the fridge and tea facilities we're well stocked and user friendly. Staff all very friendly and check out was very easy. Plenty of towels and complementary soap which is a plus.
Review 51:Not applicable.
Review 52:Lovely room - had a suite with a downstairs seating area, all in-room facilities you could need, nice option of tea/coffee to take away with you in the morning. Excellent value for money.
Review 53:There are many long stay car parks nearby, but are expensive
Review 54:I have stayed in Sheffield on many occasions and in my opinion is the best hotel in Sheffield. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff make your stay very enjoyable. The hotel is centrally located with shops and nightlife within easy reach.
Review 55:We stayed for just one night and checked in late, so we didn't really use the facilities but the room was fantastic and the staff were very helpful.. Excellent customer service! We wished we checked in earlier to make more use of the hotel facilities.. We would defiantly choose this hotel again
Review 56:heating didn't work, hot water ran out in shower on last morning, breakfast was ok but not amazing
Review 57:nice room, lots of goodies, nice hotel in principle and they refunded us a night's coz of the problems
Review 58:Car park is further away than expected. However what annoyed me was a mix up on breakfast cost. When we checked in surprisingly we had to say did we want breakfast and what we wanted (full English or not). They then asked me to pay which I did. My understanding was I paid for it all but on checkout breakfast was on top as were the papers which we needn't have had. If I had thought I hadn't paid for breakfast ready then on our second day we wouldnt have had it as it was pretty mediocre. I felt therefore a bit ripped off - illogical I know because if I had checked everything I could have worked it out. The impression given on check in however was misleading.
Review 59:The location is very good in terms of being central and easy access to shops and restaurants.
Review 60:Our room was next to a function room which was a little noisy.
Review 61:Service - we received a complimentary upgrade to a lovely room. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Review 62:view from the windows of 2 out of 3 rooms. my friend made a complaint and was asked if she would like to see the duty manager. They should have been bought straight away
Review 63:liked the feel of the room, fluffy towels and the decor
Review 64:The hotel is lovely hotel, the staff where very polite and helpful. The hotel is situated in the city centre which is very helpful if like shopping, and eating out.
Review 65:Absolutely nothing
Review 66:The location to the City Hall, the room and bed were so comfortable and the parking arrangements were superb. All staff were so professional and accommodating.
Review 67:We were given a room on the ground floor on the front corner. Unfortunately it is in the intersection of a busy road and tramway so when vehicles pulled away it made the single glazed windows shudder. As these were pretty much floor to ceiling it appeared to amplify the noise. Also the door in the upstairs part of the mezzanine ( bed area) you could see the carpet outside as there was such a huge gap between the door and the frame. There was no restaurant at the hotel ( they have adverts for other places to eat and the breakfast Rome was so small it was "Fawlty Towers" esqe being served despit the staffs best efforts. The soya milk my partner ordered for breakfast was also off too. On Friday and Saturday nights you are also treated to a local sideshow courtesy of the nightclub chucking out from around the corner ( whether you want it or not!)
Review 68:Central location for Sheffield city centre
Review 69:Was expecting the car park to be on site and free. Not that it was far away, probably five minutes walk, but dragging cases back and then remembering that I needed some thing from the car late eve was a pain. Cost of parking was not a problem, at under a fiver, but it would have been nice to be included. Only a small gripe.
Review 70:Location location location
Review 71:Bathrooms had mould on silicon grouting and ceiling which needed redoing rather than cleaning.
Review 72:Rooms were good size, had a fridge, radio with iPhone connection, high ceilings and fair decor.
Review 73:The TV picture was slightly poor quality but did not impede our enjoyment of a fab documentary about David Gilmour!
Review 74:A really nice hotel located in the city centre. We have stayed here many times. We had a very large pitched ceiling room which was clean comfortable and spacious. In room fridges plus tea and coffee making facilities add to the comfort and convenience.
Review 75:Our room backed onto a wall and racks of laundry. We were also next door to some kind of water heater that was a bit noisy.
Review 76:The position of the hotel was perfect for our needs and right by the shops and restaurants. The room and bathroom were both of a good size.
Review 77:I love the character of the hotel-modern facilities and decor fitting well into an old school building. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The position is excellent close to the city centre and with parking nearby.
Review 78:I'm Coeliac and the breakfast staff got a bit confused about my gluten free toast and brought me normal toast. Not sure that they realised I would have been very ill if I had not asked whether it was gluten free. It was changed very quickly though.
Review 79:The location was fantastic, room was lovely. Reception staff were very helpful.
Review 80:miniature rooms, cramped breakfast area and cold "hot" breakfast. Mean with everything coffee and milk in room, butter at breakfast, tea coffee etc. Cutting corners everywhere
Review 81:location
Review 82:Staff very professional, very helpful, thoughtful; room super clean, bed was very comfortable; location great for university, archives, museums, shopping, restaurants; never write reviews, this hotel is the exception, it is exceptional
Review 83:Staff were very helpful and pleasant. A special mention to the night-time staff member who kindly sorted out a late night snack for my daughter despite the late hour.
Review 84:Lovely, friendly and very comfortable hotel in a perfect location. It was our son's graduation ceremony at City Hall and the hotel, choice of restaurants and bars was ideal, especially as it was a very wet and windy weekend!
Review 85:Room was a little noisey, given its proximity to surrounding outdoor bars.
Review 86:Clean and tidy room. Good value. Helpful staff. Great location. My favourite hotel in Sheffield and my third or fourth stay.
Review 87:Nothing to fault at all. Try it, stay there and you'll love it.
Review 88:The personal touch - We brought food back to the hotel after a night out, and the concierge asked if we would like plates etc. He was knocking on our room door within minutes plates in hand. Brilliant hotel all round.
Review 89:The bar area needs re-furbishing. Unfortunately, our room backed onto a local bar which played load music until about 1.30am on Saturday. We mentioned this to reception on checkout and they said this has been a problem before and will contact the owner. They waived our car-parking fee as a result.
Review 90:My wife and I selected this hotel because of its proximity to the City Hall for a concert. It was perfectly situated in the centre of town in a very nice building with many original features. We booked a standard double room which was very good with an excellent bathroom. The staff were very pleasant and efficient. The breakfast was fine and good value.Overall a very good hotel (as long as you are not next to the local bar)
Review 91:Parking was not as easy as I had thought it would be. Understand the hotel is in the town center. Just glad I did not have my mother and her wheel chair to deal with.
Review 92:Liked the location to downtown. Staff were great, very helpful . I would stay again.
Review 93:We had a disabled bathroom in our room with a very low very small sink, which proved difficult to fill the kettle in. Also one of the lifts level 4 button would not press so we had to go to level 5 and walk down. Both minor things, but overall fab stay.
Review 94:Hotel was nice, modern and clean. Staff were very helpful. Bottled water was complimentary in your fridge. Excellent location and good value for money on the deal I got.
Review 95:Room was split across 2 floors connected by spiral stair case which would not be ideal for all guests as had to negotiate stairs to get to bathroom in the night
Review 96:Very friendly and welcoming.very clean and well equipped room.
Review 97:The afternoon tea the scones were hard they said baked fresh just wondered when they were baked fresh . We had a mezzanine room it was very noisy as you are right on the road & a lot of traffic. We had breakfast & thought it was bad the kids breakfast are the same price as adults . Also they said parking was a sort walk but with 2 children & rain & cases. Not a short walk .
Review 98:It was lovely & clean
Review 99:Difficult disabled access- not clearly signposted. Very busy as a wedding was happening, wedding guests were rowdy and intimidating for my elderly mother in a wheelchair. While accepting it is a fantastic occasion for a family, the guests should have had adequate space so they didn't need to take over all of the public space and corridors in the public areas.
Review 100:Central location.
Review 101:Breakfast wasn't the usual buffet so it felt like everything had been counted before serving. 1 sausage, 1 hash brown etc - not really good value for money and I left hungry.
Review 102:Staff were really lovely! We booked a deluxe king room and got two twin beds pushed together, which made the first night's stay uncomfortable, but they soon moved us to a better room and compensated some of the first night's stay. They were really understanding about it and made it really easy for us to explain our views without feeling like we were complaining too much! The location is right in the middle of town and the general feel of the hotel is lovely, with old features and modern furnishings. Will definitely go back.
Review 103:We stayed for one night after spending the day in Sheffield, it couldn't have been more convenient location wise. Hotel is a wonderful use of a classic building, room well equipped, particular complement for wonderful bed and lovely bathroom.
Review 104:I had a double room which was fairly small. The hotel used to be a grammar school and has been sympathetically redesigned to give it a contemporary modern look. The new is mostly tastefully blended with the old with black and white photos of the boys in their uniforms scattered around the place. I felt memorabilia was overdone when I was greeted with the sight of a whole class of adolescent boys in swimming trunks as I entered the breakfast room.
Review 105:Excellent location, cleanliness of the room, quality of the bedding, comfort of the bed. Staff were very helpful.
Review 106:The fire alarm went off 3 times in the middle of the night. When we mentioned it at check out we didn't receive an apology from the staff nor any sort of attempt at placating us.
Review 107:The room was clean. The location of hotel was excellent.
Review 108:The room (129) was very good but the during the night running water can be herd all night, we did not sleep well , we both felt the running water was a leak but it was shower water running to drain, you need to insulate the down pipes in the risers this should reduce the noise. we would like you to look at having a restaurant for evening dinning, and not bar area.
Review 109:The fire alarm went off 4 times during the night. Room was noisy due to location an tram.
Review 110:Facilities were very good, coffee, tea etc good quality. Staff (especially bar staff) very helpful.
Review 111:The bathroom was very cold. The towel rail in the bathroom was very undersized.
Review 112:Easy check in and check out, good location. Breakfast was reasonable with varied selection of food.
Review 113:Their complimentary wifi is slow and had to upgrade to high speed for an extra cost of 2.99. But I didn't mind paying for that since their services were otherwise excellent and even let us check out later without extra cost and also stored our bags whilst we had a look around the city before we left.
Review 114:Location good. Room was very clean.
Review 115:the bar is small and a bit like a corridor. Never mind, there's plenty of bars 5 yards away...
Review 116:I thought this place might be a bit noisy given its very central location, but, whilst late night Friday night revellers could just be heard, it was still an oasis of calm. Superb location right in the mix of sheffields night life. Lots of restaurants and bars to choose from.
Review 117:The bar staff didn't have much of a clue when serving me a brandy in a stubby glass, when asked for one she didn't understand what I was talking about .Constantly having to change room cards as they stopped working on a daily basis. I was knocked up at 1.30 am with room service, they got the wrong room.
Review 118:The location of the hotel was situated in the centre of the town, ideal as we were attending a wedding.
Review 119:Room very small (headmasters suite)Evening noise: lots of public transport, bottle bins and strange fan/heater that kept us awake at night.
Review 120:Location and lovely staff
Review 121:Would have liked to have dinner there at least on on one evening Quite noisy on the first evening
Review 122:Super friendly staff Excellent service Lovely comfortable room
Review 123:Sandwich we ordered from room Service bread was very dry.
Review 124:The hotel was fantastic in a central location near great bars and restaurants. Comfy rooms, very clean with great facilities. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 125:Yet again as in most hotels no early hot breakfast for the business traveller..7.30 is when I start work. .breakfast from 6am and this hotel would have scored all tens
Review 126:A very welcoming hotel...excellent city centre position with good restaurants and bars on your doorstep. .A huge comfy bed within a huge clean room
Review 127:Room was noisy due to poor design of pipes. plumbing from room above ran directly next to the bed meaning every time a tap was turned on or the toilet was flushed a loud bang woke us up! In room facilities were not great. Poor quality iron, no hair dryer and poor selection of tea and coffee given it was a suite. Bar area was a bit small and drinks slightly over priced.
Review 128:The decor of the hotel was very nice, modern but retaining orginal features of the old building. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and check in/out was easy. Excellent value for money with a suite costing £99.
Review 129:Very impressed with everything about the hotel. Superb quality finishings and so much more elegant than chain hotels. Slightly quirky layout no doubt due to it being a converted college but we felt that felt that his added to its charm.
Review 130:The sofa in the suite was not very comfortable to sit on. No toilet brush Downstairs of the suite was drafty with the air-conditioning on and struggled to increase the temperature
Review 131:The suite, the size of the bed
Review 132:Breakfast seemed expensive - can't comment on quality as we chose not to have it!
Review 133:Great location and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Room nice and clean and very comfortable.
Review 134:The weather!
Review 135:I have stayed on a few occasions previously and not had a great experience but thought I would try again because of a great offer on booking.com and also it's fab location. We were greeted with a big smile and early check in and the room was immaculate and spacious. Parking was easy to find and not too far away. I would def return
Review 136:Little pricey but suppose to expected with such a great location
Review 137:Great location 15 mins walk from the train station and 5 mins from city hall were we went to see a show. Nice clean and tidy.
