Reviews for Quorn Country Hotel

Review 1:The room and bathroom need a bit of work and the lights didn't work all the time. Facilities and food could be better certainly is not a 4 star hotel.

Review 2:The staff seemed nice

Review 3:I didn't like the cobwebs on the ceiling, the heat in the room even with no radiators on, or the way the hairdryer was attached to the drawer making it very hard to use!

Review 4:We all liked our breakfast, great choice offered. The shower was lovely and the shower gel smelt lush. The bed was big and size of suite good for my husband and I with 2 children.

Review 5:No hot water for duration of stay. Made to feel a nuisance when we asked them to see to it. Told we could move to room above a Christmas party.. Rips in carpet in bar (which I nearly broke my neck on) - room wasn't clean on arrival.. Cobwebs everywhere and stains on bedclothes. Called ahead a few days prior to stay to ask them to book a taxi for the Saturday night. Taxi turned up but was told it was for 8 people so they had sent a bus which cost us double. Majority of time no one manning reception - at one point there was 15 people in the reception area staring at an empty desk. Extremely disappointed!

Review 6:Obvious the hotel is heavily involved in weddings, this resulted in a very limited menu and bar facilities for other guests during our stay.

Review 7:Pleasant old building in picturesque grounds. Good sized executive room, very comfortable bed. Very good 3 course Sunday Lunch.

Review 8:Wifi didn't work in our room, but did in the lobby

Review 9:Very pleasant hotel in pleasant surroundings, comfortable rooms with nice furnishings. Very popular with wedding parties.

Review 10:Out in extension next to traffic, shower Luke warm on hottest setting also kept going cold, executive room flattered to deceive, wifi terrible, quite dirty, lots of cobwebs, bathroom floor very slippy, not enough useable sockets, breakfast too quickly served had no time to finish cereal, staff efficient but in personnel

Review 11:Very little unfortunately, bed was comfortable, village very nice but little else.

Review 12:air con in room wasnt adjustable so was too hot all weekend. receptionist appeared confused over bookings and room rates. room was grubby in parts.

Review 13:food was delishious although took a long while to serve. room was quiet.

Review 14:The quality of training of the staff. A very pleasant waiter who didn't know what Port was and had to go and ask and then asked us, as he pointed to the remaining biscuits on the plate, ' Biscuits, do you mean those square things?' At breakfast, a waiter reciting everything that was on the (substantial) menu whereas a menu could have been provided simply. My memory isn't what it was. A receptionist who said she didn't know about something I requested but didn't offer to seek advice. Nothing against the people, it is the training that is lacking and spoilt the whole appearance of the hotel.

Review 15:Good sized room, clean. Food was good quality and well presented. Pleasant staff.

Review 16:Bar only had 1 larger on tap (other had run out). Staff very young and not really know how to run a bar or what was going on. Rooms getting old and need some upgrading.

Review 17:Breakfast very good.

Review 18:Because the fact they are registered for weddings, they know they have a captive audience for guests of the weddings. As such they charge around 3x more than a room of that standard should be. Breakfast was poor, room was sub par although fortunately clean and staff were not interested in how pleasant our stay was.

Review 19:It was a friends wedding.

Review 20:The staff were so inexperienced and the whole place seemed to lack any form of management and direction. It was so disappointing as my previous visit was really positive - Hence our return visit and my recommendation to friends. We were booked in for dinner but cancelled as we had no confidence that we would receive quality fresh food and service - an opinion probably considered by others as there was no one else in the restaurant. It was one of the most disappointing visits to a hotel I have ever had and from a seasoned traveler that speaks volumes!!

Review 21:Nothing apart from the setting

Review 22:During the evening and especially in the morning, the place just seemed woefully understaffed. No one at breakfast to seat us and nowhere to sit so we just left and went to a service station.

Review 23:Lovely clean room, although you get what you pay for. Nice location. There for a wedding and they put on a really good day for us all.

Review 24:Pleasantly greeted at check-in, directed to our room to find the remnants of the prior guests night. Although it looked like they had a great night it kinda ruined the mood of ours. Staff were helpful & we were moved to another (cleaned) room but more than a little disappointing. Furthermore, no answer from reception telephone hence fetching my own room service from the bar. To be fair, there was a function on & staff looked busy but I wasn't paying any less for my stay due to this so overall not too impressed.

Review 25:Good location, pleasant setting, friendly staff

Review 26:Booking.com completely messed our booking up, we were supposed to be booked in for two nights but only one was booked, we were expecting breakfast to be included but it was not. However the staff dealt with the mistake very sympathetically. The only criticism of the staff was the bad service at breakfast.

Review 27:This was a very comfortable, well appointed hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful though it was a little on the expensive side.

Review 28:Half the electrics didn't work... The room was large and the bed was great but it was sparsely furnished and needs a little love ...

Review 29:The breakfast and the waitress were the best thing ....the grounds are also beautiful .... It must have been a beautiful place at one time ...

Review 30:We booked the room in March and asked if we could book in earlier than 2.0pm as we were attending a wedding at the hotel. Got no reply .Rang secondweek in July (Wedding was was on 18th) Told would have to ring on the Saturday morning.at 08.30. Advised that we would be on the road then and asked would there be a possibility of a courtesy room to enable us to was etc. Told dont know ring Sat. Had to make further arrangements elsewhere before arriving at your hotel. Just prior to the wedding asked if they had a room available or somewhere secure to leave our bags. Told no nothing available until l2 .0pm when all rooms would be free.We did not like this sort of " brushing off" with no inerest. At breakfast there was loud music playingin the dining room that sounded liky someone wailing.I was going to complain but my wife said that we would only be there another half hour.Departure could not quickly enough for us and I would recommend anyone intending booking there to try somewhere else and only use this hotel as a last resort.

Review 31:Ver Little but we were not in a very receptive mood after our trearment

Review 32:Hotel is a little tired and some parts need updating - no air conditioning made the room hot. Restaurant service poor

Review 33:Nice village and beautiful setting for the hotel with a river at the side of the grounds. Rooms good size and staff friendly and helpful.

Review 34:Room in a separate building. Air conditioning unable to adjust temperature. No magnifying mirror. Breakfast sausage undercooked.

Review 35:Room big and quite. Bar meal really nice and friendly staff.

Review 36:Well everything was fine...until the cooked breakfast delivery! Perfectly good buffet to start with but then the breakfast arrived, which looked fabulous at first sight, until we explore the contents which were totally overcooked. Such a shame. Otherwise a perfectly acceptable experience.

Review 37:Good location and a perfectly fine hotel. Regret didn't spend enough time there to really judge much further.

Review 38:Room too hot, no coffee or tea making facilities, no WiFi (even paid for) tired decor. Too expensive for what is on offer.

Review 39:Clean room, quiet location, big (free) car park, comfortable bed, big TV

Review 40:Breakfast was shambolic. Most things had run out about half way through the service and it was clear weren't going to be replenished. Quality of food was poor. We weren't charged after we complained. But it took the pleasure from the stay

Review 41:TV alarm preset for 7 am by previous occupant . Disturbed us followed by delivery of linens. Travelled over stones and stopped outside our room . Very noisy and with hydraulic delivery .

Review 42:Spacious comfortable room

Review 43:Wow so much to mention. Warm white wine, waited to get a drink and again in the restaurant for pudding and gave up and went to bed - i was the only one in the restaurant. Waitress appeared a couple of times with apron and rubber gloves walking through the restaurant :) Breakfast had no table ready and had to ask for salt & pepper for my inedible runny scrambled egg, had to ask for more orange juice and a plate for melon from buffet which hadn't been tidied up since commencement of service - I ate breakfast at 8.45. There was butter left from previous diner and had to ask for it to be replaced when toast arrived. Other people were coming in and only one girl serving trying her best so was a complete shambles.

Review 44:Dinner was good if a little pricey although the main course of cod was over cooked.

Review 45:NO wash cloths ?! No bathrobes or (with dubious carpet) slippers. Inadequate curtains for a room with outside bright light, so no sleep. No spoons served with room service coffee, and inedible eggs for breakfast as too much pepper/herbs.

Review 46:Leaving.

Review 47:There was a wedding in the hotel and when we finished our meeting and made our way to bed at about 11pm we realise we were right above the disco. We had travelled down from Scotland for ameeting starting at 3pm so we had an early start. The next day we were heading for Swindon so we needed to be away by approx 7am the next morning. The staff knew this because we asked about an early breakfast so perhaps they should have thought about putting us in a quiet room. These were available see my comment about what I liked

Review 48:When we asked if we could change our room the reception staff were very quick to do this and did help moving lugguge.

Review 49:Room 102 - awful, last decorated 1982 by the look of the bedroom Room something else in the same block - awful Breakfast waitress who has no concept of first come first served - I had to walk out

Review 50:The room I finally moved in to The location Breakfast (depending on who was the waiter) The helpful staff

Review 51:I arrived very late was met by a friendly night concierge. The room was soavioys and comfortable, abdt had good faculties. Breakfast next morning was good, served in a nice restaurant by friendly accommodating staff.

Review 52:Generally run down hotel. Booked a suite for the family which was roomy enough but lacked style in every way. The staff were completely indifferent to your existence without asking what your plans are, good morning, good evening, thank you for coming - nothing!

Review 53:The large library/lounge area.

Review 54:The rooms need refurbishing, the reception staff were not particularly welcoming the cost for just the room per night was expensive for what it was, this used to be the best hotel in the area but not any more, It didn't live up to my expectations,

Review 55:The location and setting. The ladies who cleaned the rooms were very efficient and friendly,it was clean

Review 56:Poor WIFI, dreadful music and at a high volume in the breakfast room. Breakfast staff brought wrong egg choice to all 4 people in our group. Never again for me.

Review 57:Location and old building nice for weddings but not for business.

Review 58:£3 charge for paying with Credit card Breakfast area was messy, no plates cleared and cooked breakfast was poor quality and cold

Review 59:Room was spacious Bar area is comfortable

Review 60:The location was wonderful and the accommodations very good. We would look forward to another stay. The staff, in particular Paige our chief facilitator went out of her way to show us consideration with the village of Quorn.

Review 61:Room directly above funcation room where a 21st party was going on, the fire alarm then went off due to a smoke machine been used at the party. Had we of been pre warned ref the party would of booked another hotel.

Review 62:Room good size Comftable bed Friendly staff

Review 63:The food was disappointing.there was no gluten free. Bread, even though you were warned before we came. No GF bread was supplied for the second morning. This could have been purchased from a local shop.

Review 64:The room on the ground floor.the noise from the wedding was unbearably loud and it was impossible.to sleep.

Review 65:We had to endure banging base so loud we couldn't hear TV or sleep from 530 pm until 1130 then drunk party guests chatting outside for hours - we were staying at hotel to attend a rememberence service

Review 66:On arrival Reception Clerk suggested we might like to upgrade to a quieter part of the hotel [overlooking their lovely gardens] as a wedding reception was being held there. Also, I left a small jewellery box behind and the Housekeeper reported it immediately so I was able to return to collect it before travelling back to London.

Review 67:No music, no salt, pepper on table. Had to request butter, not enough food on table such as cheese, salami, no brown bread, etc. Tables left untidy after previous guest. Staff was not on top of things.

Review 68:Location was lovely, airy, light. Parking great. Room big, bathroom great too.

Review 69:I thought you were not set up for us at breakfast even though there were few guests in breakfast at the timr

Review 70:The welcome.The room facilities.Free Internet.The evening meal.The garden.

Review 71:The bath was blocked and filled up with 3" of weather Plus it was very dirty and cobwebs and hair in the bathroom and on the carpet

Review 72:The bed was not to bad

Review 73:The cleanliness did not have enough attention to detail - it felt like it had nit been quality checked after completion (and there were only 8 guests staying on Friday). The restaurant is too closely seated and formal

Review 74:We were at quorn country on our wedding night and I stayed the night before with friends - the staff couldn't do enough for us - they were exceptionally helpful

Review 75:The wedding disco meant sleeping before mIdnight is not likely. We did ask if we were likely to be disturbed. "Shouldnt be" was the answer. She lied. Lovely hotel but you won't get to enjoy it if there is a function on and there are lots of them. The disco was in the sitting room. There should be massive discounts during wedding weekends. Check before you book! You've been warned.

Review 76:Rooms were comfortable, plenty of parking.

Review 77:The lounge and bar area is very dull, drab and in need of comprehensive redecoration. The carpets were dirty, old and threadbare in places, and generally very dark. Similar criticism is warranted for the bedroom. The un suite bathroom was dirty and not suitable for use.

Review 78:The orangerie was very pleasant, bright and clean, and the food was very good

Review 79:one of the rooms, in the main hotel, was very hot due to the good weather. Air conditioning not working, but a fan provided

Review 80:friendly staff, large comfortable rooms, comfortable bed, very clean hotel.

Review 81:The food was disgraceful. Not only did they bring the wrong meal to the table, but the fish was full of water and the batter greasy. The breakfast again was covered in water from the poached eggs, which I had to soak up with a towel. gave up after second towel.

Review 82:Room was comfortable but not worth the cost as we were in an annex and not actually in the hotel

Review 83:Restaurant was very slow and we were not kept informed. Steaks over cooked and sent back. Took ages to redo and no update. Apologised and said plate had been dropped so all had to be redone. Spoilt meal due to lack if info. Food in the end good

Review 84:Clean comfortable spacious rooms and helpful staff

Review 85:wifi did not work in the room slow service in bar and restaurant meal was not great - raw chips (twice) slow check out and printer (for receipt) was not working room decor gloomy and lights too dim poor mobile reception in area (O2)

Review 86:staff friendly and tried but not all well trained

Review 87:This was only a problem because of the unusually high temperature during our stay BUT the air conditioning unit didn't work as no cool air was circulating our room. It made it really hard to get ready in the morning because we were getting so hot moving about the room.

Review 88:We arrived in a nearby village which had the closest train station. We weren't near any shops or facilities to ask for directions so called the hotel and the receptionist booked a taxi for us and called back to confirm how long the taxi would be. Nothing was too much hassle for any of the staff we met during our stay and it made for a great weekend away.

Review 89:Rude staff at breakfast, no attempt to accommodate to our needs and when asked for more toast, were bluntly told we'd have to wait. Considering the price of breakfast, we felt very unsatisfied after being treated in such a way.

Review 90:Most of the staff were great and catered to us brilliantly!

Review 91:Every else was dreadful. The decor is tired and the room smelt of smoke! There is no breakfast menu just the take it or leave it kind. When I tried to ask what they could do that was gluten free the waitress told me everything was cooked in oil! eventually I said she could bring the breakfast and I would leave whatever I couldn't eat but it never arrived. We didn't bother with breakfast the second day. When we complained on checking out there was no offer to reduce the price to reflect the fact that breakfast had never occurred and that executive room with a view looked over the car park. my advice find a Premier Inn it will be better than this.

Review 92:The bed was comfy and the shower was good

Review 93:Greasy food Staffs attitude Staff need training This hotel was a lovely stay for the night and the rooms and grounds seemed clean. We all paid £10 each for breakfast the following morning so we was expecting what we paid for, to our surprise there was only orange and cranberry juice left and a selection of cereals on the side. We asked for an English breakfast, 20 minutes later we was given a plate full of grease, there was fat dripping off the sausages and even the beans was floating around our plates. Yes ok a fry up is a fry up but everything must of been chucked in a deep fat fryer. Something had to be said, it was taken away and returned 10 minutes later and was still disgusting. We left it and went to check out, spoke to the receptionist about our disgust and all we got was 'I will tell the chefs..' Where was the sorry? I asked to speak to the manager, who looked like a waiter to me as he was in the breakfast room breaking down tables and stacking chairs around us. He surprisingly told us he had taken the food back and patted everything down with a towel!! And he also has never had any complaints so he didn't see what the problem was and he had worked with Jamie Oliver and he had a lot of experience .. What's that got to do with anything..? No sorry, no refund, nothing apart from rude comments in return. I have worked in hospitality for many years and been highly trained by feathers hotel group. If I had had that attitude or even spoken to any guests like that, I would of been out the door. New chefs needed, staff need serious training. Cleaners always smiled and said hello, even if they was cleaning a window! The littlest things make a whole lot of difference. I have tried to speak to the main manager but he never seems to be available. Not good enough!!

Review 94:Room Grounds Location

Review 95:The hotel has a work in progress feel to it. It's a bit run down in places but has great potential. One odd thing was having a TV on in the bar but this was drowned out by the background music.

Review 96:Great room (eventually) after the first two were either not cleaned or roasting hot. Staff tried very hard to resolve issues. Lovely grounds

Review 97:Sizeable rooms

Review 98:Noisy extractor fan nearby which we could hear all night

Review 99:When we booked it was full and no rooms left but 2 days before I up graded to executive room and the hotel was empty only 6-8 guests ?

The Fine Print

Please note that weddings and functions are often held at the Quorn Country Hotel, so some rooms may be subject to noise until 12 am.
