Reviews for Meryan House Hotel

Review 1:Hospitality, kindness and really lovely people who own it. Nothing was too much trouble. Very clean, would definitely stay there again, and recommend it to all our friends. Excellent breakfast.

Review 2:Unfortunately the cleanliness let this little gem down. The stair rail needs a good clean and so do the carpets on the stairs. Less ornaments too. We were in room 8 and the mattress needs turning. There's a big dip on the side nearest the television, Sorry. Other than a good clean I'd definitely stay again.

Review 3:Very friendly owners and helpful. Made us feel very welcome.

Review 4:Wasnt aware had to forewarn owner we wanted to eat in in eve although when we needed to unexpectedly Cherry produced a lovely meal.

Review 5:Ideal position for us as near relative's home. Comfortable bed and room although rather crowded with furniture.Lovely modern bathroom

Review 6:I loved the fact it was a 500 year old house with lots of old furniture, it was very qwerty. The room i had was beautiful with a lovely on suite. The owner was so lovely and very helpful! Would got here again and would recommend for friends

Review 7:Having to find our own way to the room up stairs and through an unlit corridor, following verbal instructions to look out for ramps and steps in floor level. Room was cluttered with furniture, making it difficult to place luggage and get to the wardrobe and desk. Power points behind furniture. Parking area was also cramped.

Review 8:nothing.

Review 9:It was very central for are needs,it was ultra clean in are room and bathroom. I slept until 7am and that's a first for a long time. The owner was very helpful with directions for me as my sat nav was not working and the breakfast was first class

Review 10:List of items on booking confirmation,eg trouser press, dvd player etc were nit actually I the room as implied Also one packet of 3 biscuits was supplied for a couple.

Review 11:Quiet location and ample parking

Review 12:Lovely friendly staff, really comfortable room and amazing breakfast! Was in a perfect location for the wedding we attended and also was in a perfect place for us to venture into Taunton to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Review 13:There wasn't anything. It was a good visit and if there were any issues we would have raised this face to face with the proprietor not a review

Review 14:Pleasant staff

Review 15:none at all

Review 16:Have just stayed on a visit to my niece in taunton. What a wonderful place to stay, cannot fault anything with this hotel. The owner of the hotel works so hard to please everybody all the time and it truly works, the hotel is so clean, comfortable and the breakfast is truly wonderful and nothing is to much trouble. Wonderful quiet hotel in a charming village on the edge of taunton and close to motorway.

Review 17:The first thing I saw on arrival was a sign 'Car par full' and another 'Parking for immediate family only. Please park in village'. After driving into the car park with the intent to just turn around there was only one car parked with empty spaces for at least 20 cars. The double room that was allocated did have a double bed, but walking around it was barely possible. I haver encountered such a small double room. The TV did not work. After assistance from the owner it worked but both picture and sound broke down up making it impossible to watch. There was a kettle provided but the lead was too short to reach the socket. In order to use it it had stand on the floor - very dangerous in the limited space. Dinner was available providing one told the owner what was wanted so they could go and get the requested items. The set price was £29.95 for three courses. I did not take this offer up. The toilet and shower cubicle were in a cupboard and the sink was in the room itself. Breakfast was only available until 9.00 am When mentioning some of these things to the owner I was informed that a High Court Judge used this room the previous week and had no complaints. Good for him!

Review 18:Very nice Garden but only cast iron chairs provided.

Review 19:NO ALL GOOD.

Review 20:it was in a quiet area of the town. The hotel is a very old historic building, but the rooms were very nice. the range of food available at breakfast was excellent.

Review 21:We thought we were going to a 4 star hotel. More like a 3 star B/B. We were first meet by a most unfriendly older woman to be told their was no evening food and we could walk to the town or get a taxi.

Review 22:Room and breakfast

Review 23:Strange shower with only two temperatures, too hot... or too cold... other than that nice hotel!

Review 24:Excellent location and very nice authentic hotel. Excellent breakfast

Review 25:If I'm being really fussy, the wifi wasn't the quickest... But that's the only remotely bed thing I can think of.

Review 26:Lovely polite & courteous staff. The most comfortable bed I've slept in at a hotel. Will be staying there again.

Review 27:Wines were grossly overpriced. I expect to pay a premium but the bottle we had with dinner was 4 and a half times more expensive than we normally pay for the same wine.

Review 28:Should be viewed as a B&B, no restaurant at weekends, but good when booked with that in mind.

Review 29:Characterful hotel in a quiet location but close to Taunton town. Friendly staff. Lovely terraced garden.

Review 30:Not enough bathroom space for ladies with 'stuff'

Review 31:The staff, nothing was too much trouble. The beds were cosy and warm. The breakfast was wonderful.

Review 32:On arrival we were not made to feel welcome and although this didn't spoil the visit, a little more warmth would have made this a 5 star stay.

Review 33:The location was convenient, the room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast tasty and most of the staff were friendly.

Review 34:Fantastic welcoming, friendly hosts that bend over backwards to ensure guests are comfortable and have all they need!

Review 35:Dinner is not served unless by prior notification and there's no room service

Review 36:Comfortable bed and delicious breakfast

Review 37:Price

Review 55:Hotel service location

Review 56:Nice building and decor

Review 57:The owners know how to treat their guests. Nothing is too much trouble and they can give advice on almost anything.

Review 58:We like the older hotel and this had everything we love

Review 59:nothing in particular

Review 60:welcoming and friendly staff , excellent breakfast , bedroom comfortable and clean.

Review 61:Room was little bit smaller

Review 62:Love the location, ambience of the hotel.

Review 63:Lovely bedroom and en suite, would like to have stayed longer. Beautiful sunny terrace and garden.

Review 64:A great B&B come hotel where the breakfast is perfect. Full English and cooked great. As they also take well behaved dogs there is the river walk just 3 mins from the door. Also having a separate lounge to sit in and relax to the great music machine, is just total relaxation. Location to walk into Taunton is only 30mins along the river. A great place and the hosts are so welcoming .

Review 65:No dinner available on Saturday evening (easy walk to local pub meal though) A little bit pricey but still acceptable rooms could do with "decluttering" but not a real issue for one night stay

Review 66:Clean comfortable room,

Review 67:Despite having tried to provide wifi through three routers, it did not fuction very well.

Review 68:A hotel with plenty of character. Superb breakfast. Helpful owner.

Review 69:The bedroom was overloaded with pillows cushions and other accoutrements but there was nowhere to sit and the windows were minute . The owner was not helpful on the telephone when I asked why no evening meals were served on Fridays Saturdays or Sundays , the exact days when we were staying . The answer " there has never been any call for it " did not inspire confidence prior to our visit . On being asked what visitors do for an evening meal at the weekend , "the pub next door" was given as a possible venue . When asked what the food was like there , the answer was "edible " . I wondered , at the end of our stay how, at weekends , this Bed and Breakfast could be called a hotel . It is possible that it is ok on other days when the main guests are conference groups etc

Review 70:The breakfasts were good and the location was suitable for our needs

Review 71:Bathroom quite small, difficult to access shower for large person! Very nice bathroom facilities though, and beautifully clean. Restaurant only open Monday-Thursday for dinner and service began at 7.30 which is quite late unless you are on business, which most visitors seem to be.

Review 72:Bedroom very comfortable. Nicely furnished. Good facilities such as free wi-fi, iPod docking station, good tv, plenty of tea, coffee etc. Food excellent. Huge breakfast, everything beautifully cooked. Log fire in lounge, comfortable chairs. Two gorgeous dogs!

Review 73:We hadn't realised that the restaurant was closed on a Friday. Thisdidn't matter as it transpired, because there is a pub across theroad which provided us with a good home cooked meal. We found thelighting in the bedroom fairly dim which was not conducive to bedtimereading. Most hotels suffer from this problem and low wattage bulbs. Wealso like to have a window that opens. That apart it was very good.

Review 74:The room was very comfortable and well equipped with a comfortable bed.The ensuite bathroom was equally appealing and include a lovely cornerbath which didn't take hours to fill. There was plenty of hot waterand my husband enjoyed his shower. The staff were delightful, welcomingand friendly. The hostess provided a splendid full English breakfastwhich made my husband eyes light up with joy. We will return as this isa regular visit we make.

Review 75:I have nothing but praise for my host and hostess. They were able to arrange a private room for my guests and me at very short notice and that, coupled with excellent food, gave us a memorable evening.

Review 76:Very warm place with a lovely lady caring for me from the moment i entered the reception, very friendly atmosphere, i was feeling like home. Great interiors with attention paid to every detail.

Review 77:The staff were very friendly and very knowledgeable about the local area. We were made to feel like part of the family. Nothing was too much bother for them.

Review 78:Noisey road outside. Dogs in hotel barking @ 7 am. Breakfast window on Sat. 8-30 to 9-30. We decided to give it a miss, but at 10-30 when we checked out the very nice lady appeared to be waiting for us to eat; we declined. Similar poor communication , on web shows restaurant , but does not mention , closed on Friday! Pub opposite very much a locals bar , scampi & chips. Car park 'closed' when we arrived, it was empty so we drove in & parked. Lady said signs were because they had had a funeral party earlier. This hotel is nice but quirky, they could make more effort to be accurate in describing amenities & policies

Review 79:Comfortable bed Nice lady

Review 80:Restaurant only open Mon - Thur. Road noise

Review 81:Comfortable room Incl. Wi-Fi Good choice breakfast Off road parking Many interesting items on display throughout the house

Review 82:The bar and lounge felt like a room from a stage set (very quaint but you wouldn't want to spend an evening there) and while there was ample provision if you wanted malt whiskey they had to go hunting for ice, lemon and soft drinks. The pub across the road looked tempting but appeared to be closed.

Review 83:Pretty village location despite proximity to Taunton town centre. Helpful staff . Interesting and individual decor albeit a trifle fussy in places ( the only time I have ever had 2 statues in the bathroom). Great shower. Amazing array of fruit at breakfast meant I got my 5 a day and didn't feel the need of the full English that was also on offer

Review 84:Room a bit cluttered. Could take out one chair to make more room. TV on table meant view was obscured by bed end . Suggest attaching TV to wall for clear view from bed.

Review 85:Whole ambience of hotel. And service

Review 86:The appearance and attitude of the 'Manager'/ Owner. Far too bullish lacked the ability to smile!

Review 87:Overall our 2 night stay was good, particularly the breakfast. With one exception the staff were friendly and efficient.

Review 88:No restaurant available for an evening meal. The bedroom looked a bit dated and somewhat overdressed.

Review 89:Everywhere was clean and tidy. Friendly, cheerful staff. Good "Full English" breakfast.

Review 90:Nothing

Review 91:Cherry Clark is a knowledgable hotelier. The hotel is well kept the breakfast is excellent and owing to its location, is ideal for people who wish to walk into Taunton.

Review 92:Very much a business hotel with few leisure activities nearby.

Review 93:Friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Room comfortable but both it and the bed were very small.

Review 94:N/A

Review 95:My room was stylish, comfortable and not too warm. I hate it when the room is stifling. I was tired and felt comfortable enough to hop into PJs and watch TV in bed. I was undisturbed by other guests. The ensuite bathroom was nicely decorated and well appointed. The service was friendly and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 96:nothing

Review 104:Home from home.

Review 105:The friendly but "free ranging" dogs who barked at anything.

Review 106:The sitting room and the open fire. Also the welcome we received.

Review 107:should be better signposted locally

Review 108:I didn't stay long enough

Review 109:Meryan Hotel is a traveller's 'hidden gem'. Great character, great food, and lovely hosts.
