Reviews for Salomons

Review 1:Poor lighting over mirrors (clearly designed by a man!). TV in bad position (didn't realise you could even get them that small).

Review 2:Location was great with nice walks around the grounds. Great location if you want to venture to local towns.

Review 3:There was a small piece of skirting loose in the bathroom. Breakfast was good but not as good as the evening meal. A USB charging point in the room would have been good. Accommodation buildings were disappointing.

Review 4:We liked the ambience and the building. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Food for our evening meal was excellent. General cleanliness of the room was good.

Review 5:Walls are incredibly thin in broom hill accomadation. Bed was as solid as a rock - the two together are not a good combination

Review 6:Excellent location, beautiful grounds, impressive main building - extremely safe, friendly staff

Review 7:The hotel is in beautiful surroundings. It's very clean, quiet & comfortable. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and the breakfast was excellent! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and would definitely stay there again. Happy customer!

Review 8:The staff especially Gaby on reception very friendly and most helpful. The rooms were very clean shower was great bed very comfortable, breakfast very good. all round a really nice experience in lovely grounds.

Review 9:Bed was a bit hard!

Review 10:The staff, especially in the bar and restaurant made us feel very welcome!! We had a Christmas carvery 3 course meal which was lovely.

Review 11:felt very missold. rooms were essentially portakabins. drafty. no spaces in the main building to sit and have a cup of tea. beautiful exterior but I'm afraid the guest experience was less positive.

Review 12:staff were very friendly. nice grounds.

Review 13:greatly overpriced. Room hsd no loo roll. Light from outside some through and round window blinds. Floor cracked. Doors slammed. Basically the accommodation felt cheap and definitely not consistent with the price tag.

Review 14:It was there. It was bookable online.

Review 15:The room was dirty, smell of sewage in the room and in the shower cublical Also very noisy Also the comfy room with the warm fire is now closed and only used as a conference room therefore no where to sit after dinner

Review 16:The staff were great

Review 17:Breakfast was lovely but the toast took forever and was unevenly coloured. I would recommend a new toaster for economy and efficiency.

Review 18:The wet room, was fabulous. It was perfect for me as I am somewhat disabled with arthritis and have some difficulty in walking. It was the first time I had used a wet room and now - I want one!!!

Review 19:I was attending my friends wedding and it was a beautiful day. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. The facilities were excellent and it was an enjoyable stay. I appreciated the fact your website stated I would not be staying in the older part of the hotel and so was not surprised when I was housed in the more modern building.

Review 20:The standard of the main building was exceptional to then be taken to what looked like a block of council flats was beyond dissapointing

Review 21:Cleanliness and staff

Review 22:Other guest where noisy when coming in late which kept us awake, also there was a clicking noise that was there all night, I did report this.

Review 23:The room was nice, and clean with a good shower room.

Review 24:Access for someone with heavy bags or slightly less able to lug stuff around was not ideal

Review 25:Lovely place, excellent staff, comfy room. Breakfast and bar staff very friendly and helpful and great food and sun lounge

Review 26:Moldy Bread for Breakfast and the hotels response when asked to change it. No Hot water for tea and breakfast goods all over cooked. Nice Room Hard bed

Review 27:Room

Review 28:the iron and ironing board were of poor quality. when i first went to the front desk a supervisor type person was standing talking with a staff at the desk and they totally ignored me; when they finished their conversation both just walked away without acknowledging me in the least way. i had to ask someone else behind the desk for help. . it was a bit weird but after that incident, everyone else was very helpful

Review 29:peaceful environment, lovely surroundings, tastefully put together. the dinner menu was very good and the food surprisingly delicious. the guys waiting the tables were fantastic

Review 30:Noise from slamming doors and noisy stairs. Thin walls/poor sound insulation - I could hear the neighbouring occupant snoring. Location of room in comparison to facilities/restaurant.

Review 31:Dinner

Review 32:Nothing really bad just a bit of a hike back to the room from the restaurant

Review 33:Staff really friendly and helpful. Room clean although a little small as squashed if there had been two of us. Food was good but nothing really exciting. Was expecting something a little better.

Review 34:The walk to the restaurant but it wasn't that bad

Review 35:Really reasonable price, good location and interesting old building. Probably ideal for conferences

Review 36:Being left alone without any form of service in the "made up" dining area (due to a wedding) for 25 minutes. NO drink, no food order, NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AT ALL. Yep, £20 off whole bill BUT this ruined our weekend completely.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Found the shower temp impossible to change, stuck on very hot.

Review 39:Great staff. Beautiful grounds, landscape & historic buildings. Very calm & peaceful. Have stayed here a number of times now, love the peaceful & quiet setting.

Review 40:nice place, very good staff couples would love it had to leave early, asked for packed breakfast, got more than i asked for, really enjoyed the croissants, thanks

Review 41:This hotel is geared up for Weddings and Corporate groups and we felt like we were intruding. Breakfast was served in different rooms throughout the week and no one told us this!! We had an evening meal in the first night but no atmosphere at all and quite expensive for a very average meal!

Review 42:The place is set in beautiful grounds

Review 43:The rooms are a drive away from the restaurant, not a problem for us.

Review 44:Helpful friendly staff. A comfortable place to stay close to Tunbridge wells. Quiet and very clean

Review 45:Alas the accommodation blocks are more akin to a nursing home than a hotel. Whilst clean and functional, they look cheap and the whole place feels like a council institution. Attention to detail in the main building was particularly poor (mismatched chairs, tatty surroundings, blown light bulbs), as was the very low quality breakfast.

Review 46:The staff were friendly throughout and the grounds are extensive.

Review 47:whole place needs sprucing up - looks like everything is original faded Edwardian. Rooms very noisy - walls like paper. our door lock was coming out of the door and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. No thermostat, so can't control temp

Review 48:excellent food, accommodating restaurant staff despite relatively small and dingy restaurant

Review 49:It was a shame that I couldn't have a cooked breakfast because I was in at 7am and the cooked food came out at 7.30 when I had to go, but it looked good!

Review 50:The reception staff were amazing - so friendly and welcoming. A great asset. Lovely to be in the countryside, beautiful grounds.

Review 51:Coffee at breakfast wasn't hot. I understand some rooms would experience noise from doors banging in corridors. carpet in room had a few stains.Long way from towns or other civilization - might matter to some guests but not me!

Review 52:General setting & environment terrific. More a residential training centre than a hotel. Quirky main building with glorious terrace and views. Fascinating historical building. Lovely grounds for walking. Very peaceful & relaxed. Could open windows to get fresh air (so many hotels don't allow this these days). Excellent evening dinner.

Review 53:I think they could make the communial social space more cozier. With mood lighting and candles in hurricane glass lamps would visually lift the ambience.

Review 54:Everything. The accomadation was perfect. Wanted to stay longer

Review 55:Awful breakfast, very cheap and fruit almost rotten! Also very noisy accommodation as doors slam shut and so every time anyone leaves their room you hear a massive bang all through the night and early morning.

Review 56:Location was stunning

Review 57:i had no idea the bedrooms were up a hill away from reception and breakfast room, i feel the rooms were like a dorm in a university, lots of weddings happening, which put us out, as several places we good not go as closed to public....for me and my family not confident.

Review 58:Grounds are lovely

Review 59:Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the lake was glorious. Such a beautiful setting and to have the extra interests of looking around the theatre, museum and walks before breakfast made the stay very special. very good evening meal and cooked breakfast too. We'll be back and will allow more time at the hotel now we know what is on offer. Thank you!

Review 60:Our prior booking not recognised - confused with similar named guest. Room found was in annex up hill / numerous steep steps. Got soaking wet to and from dinner. Room was small - no air conditioning - very noisy with banging doors in rest of block - effectively a dormitory. When we complained the receptionist could only say "sorry about that". A really poor experience all round.

Review 61:Convenient to Tunbridge Wells

Review 62:there was no swimming pool, sauna or jacuzzi, small bedroom, small TV with freeview only. tiny bedroom, a mediocre shower, no bath and make up stains on the towels and no mini bar or fridge, and the outer door next to us was so noisy when people going in and out.

Review 63:the breakfast was amazing, that's the only good thing.

Review 64:Location is down very windy, narrow roads. TV very small, but they have freeview channels. Bit of a trek from accomodation block to main hall for meals/drinks, that can be 'unpleasant' when weather bad. Breakfast is good buffet style, but never seems to start on time.

Review 65:Beautiful grounds, meals in country mansion. Despite 'barrack-like' accomodation blocks, the rooms are comfortable, clean and showers work well, which is more than can be said for most hotels in the area. Definately one of the better hotels in the area and pretty central for both Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, but a car is a must.

Review 66:The location of the rooms in two outbuildings up a steep hill, was inconvenient and not suitable for the elderly or infirm. The hotel provides a golf buggy taxi which is excellent in fine dry weather but if wet it could be a problem. There is a flat access ramp from the car park to the first floor rooms, which is good for wheelchairs but not for walking aids as it is like a cattle grid. Ladies in heels would have difficulty with this too. The rooms are quite small and hot and only small top windows open to let in fresh air.

Review 67:Staff are very good and friendly, particularly on reception where nothing is too much trouble. On the Sunday morning there were only two staff in the breakfast room and they did not seem aware of things running out and people had to ask for things including, breakfast items, plates and cutlery. There were over 30 people in for breakfast and several made complaints.

Review 68:would be nice to have 24hs room service in order to be able to arrive late and still have something to eat.

Review 69:the place is very nice and having breakfast with such beautiful view is worth for the stay.

Review 70:The sound insulation of the rooms could be better

Review 71:The location was a beautiful old building with views overlooking the lake. This could be enjoyed at breakfast. The rooms were in seperate more modern buildings which were clean and comfy. The bedlinen was pristine. All staff were friendly and helpful

Review 72:Accommodation quarters are like a slightly more plush student halls of residence. Pretty basic.

Review 73:The main house/gardens are beautiful. Lovely view from the breakfast conservatory. Very nice and helpful receptionist.

Review 74:wi-if is very poor in the accommodation block Ground floor room has windows that passers by can look through giving no privacy unless blinds go down Tv is very small for modern standards and positioned poorly Bed is hard (depends on taste) Door hanger for do not disturb/make my room up falls off very easily and ours was put back on by someone incorrectly so our room was not then made up Thin walls/floors in accommodation block

Review 75:Grounds of hotel are lovely Location near Tunbridge Wells Cleanliness of room Plenty of parking Good value for money

Review 76:the roooms were definitely not 4* in my opion. very disappointing. reminded me of a private hospital. wardrobe in bathroom was a nonsense and lighting in bathroom insufficient

Review 77:location was beauitiful set in amazing parkland

Review 78:A friend and myself stayed in 2 single rooms in order to go to my daughter's silver wedding. I can't cope with all the emoticons above but I can say that Salomons was a delightful experience and the grounds are absolutely beautiful.

Review 79:A beautiful place and a chance to know the history - with the museum etc. Staff extremely helpful and not patronising, making you feel valued. It was exceptionally quiet.

Review 80:The shower head had a split so leaked water. Room 2

Review 81:Hotel and grounds is fantastic. Grounds especially the scenery was out of this world. I will come back again with others.

Review 82:Rooms were not in main building but in dormitory style building 200m up steep hill - not good for elderly. Unable to regulate shower - either very hot or extremely hot. 12" television in room - typical of conference centre not hotel.

Review 83:Pleasant and helpful staff. Rooms looked like they had been recently refurbished/decorated

Review 84:Due to a wedding, we were unable to eat in the restaurant. Rooms on the ground floor in the annexe could do with air conditioning as the rooms were very hot.

Review 85:The grounds were lovely and the walks were interesting. Liked the museum. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable

Review 86:disappointing that there are no bedrooms in the main house. Although the rooms are very clean with good decor, towels and bedlinen, they are housed in what looks like a motel annex/student block. On this basis feel they don't warrant 4* rating.

Review 87:Stunning location - grounds wonderful. Attended for wedding reception - food very good indeed

Review 88:They don't explain when booking that 90% of rooms are not in the main building but in a cheap 1970's annex some 5 minutes walk away up a very steep hill. Totally dishonest!

Review 89:Reception staff & main building were excellent.

Review 90:The distance, on a steep bank, of the accommodation from the main building. The "student" type accommodation detached from the main house. I ordered a newspaper for the three mornings of my stay but they weren't delivered.

Review 91:The beautiful grounds. The lovely conservatory breakfast room. The feeling of peace and quiet.. The cleanliness of the rooms.

Review 92:The accommodation part is a few minutes walk from the main old mansion (where the food and beverage is served), which may not be convenient in cold/rainy season; however, there is a shuttle between these two buildings available always by request. The accommodation section is promised to be rebuilt soon as an improvement but the linkage between buildings needs to be looked into more carefully.

Review 93:A luxury mansion of its time but still worths a visit and stay. Nice and quite place to stay for relaxation and explore its history and beautiful gardens for a walk. Breakfast in the conservatory is recomended with the breathtaking view of the gardens. The Science Theatre also worths a visit, which will take you to back to the old times when everything was handled manual and the electricity had just arrived to make improvements. Not to forget the giant pipe organ and unique music player at the back of the stage.

Review 94:We dined in the restaurant on the Monday evening which unfortunately was a disaster for us as a function (school leaving party) was being held in the theatre and firstly the menu was very limited - not even steak could be ordered and we had quite a long wait for our meal to arrive because priority was being given to the function in the theatre.

Review 95:The spacious attractive grounds and because my partner is disabled help from our accommodation to and from the main building by the buggy service was excellent. The Salomon Museum on site was brilliant as was seeing the 19th Century theatre and the amazing very tall water tower. Very helpful friendly reception staff and breakfast VG.

Review 96:The lower ground room was unacceptably noisy from above.Ex student accommodation no sound proofing. No sleep.Buffet breakfast appalling, looked under cooked & unappetising. Never to stay again.

Review 97:The surroundings.

Review 98:My wife ordered scrambled egg at the breakfast table. It never did arrive and there was no apology for the mistake from the waiter.

Review 99:I found the price quite reasonable considering the overall quality of the place.

Review 100:Accommodation is in student style or residential study blocks. No air conditioning or method controlling heating, in summer you bake in the rooms! The accommodation is a hike away from main building. Outward bounds or adventure activities staff noisy and inconsiderate as hell! we had misfortune to be resident right next to store rooms!

Review 101:Awkward uphill access to accomodation block with no forewarning. Drab decor to main reception arrears and unprofessional staff

Review 102:Clean room ,comfortable bed

Review 103:Salomons caters to many conferences and training events, and I think the rooms are designed for one person attending one of these functions. The only chair in our room was a straight backed chair at the writing desk so that one of us had to sit on the bed.

Review 104:The grounds at Salomons are absolutely beautiful. There are 3 major walking trails on the property, and many side paths through woods and lawns. Bird life abounds. The staff are excellent. The museum in the main building was definitely worth a visit.

Review 105:Guests were lodged in awfully ugly cheaply built buildings close-by the main house in sad little rooms, with smokers and revellers standing outside chatting as if they were standing in your room. Really depressing way to make money from such a lovely environment. Was offered a newspaper in the morning - then told to pay for it, in a sad attempt at grandeur.

Review 106:the wonderful terrace and pond close to the main house

Review 107:Hardly bad, but the rooms are in an annexe which is up a steep slope -ok if you have brought your car, but if you have a disability and arewalking, it could be a problem. (I had been forewarned that theaccommodation was separate, but not about the hill).

Review 108:The comfort of the room, the fast WiFi, the friendly & efficientstaff, the extensive breakfast. The house and grounds are veryimpressive and the (2-room) museum, which gives the remarkable familyhistory, is well-worth seeing.

Review 109:In need of blackout curtains and more soundproofing. Waterproof protectors on pillows made you sweaty but I couldn't sleep because of noise and light anyway!

Review 110:Wish someone could have designed the accommodation more in keeping with the main house. It was clean and functional but a bit like student accommodation from the outside!

Review 111:Gabriella on the front desk went the extra mile to accommodate my requests. Every member of the team was cheerful, especially at breakfast. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Review 112:At not time while I was booking this hotel did I realise that we would be staying up a hill in a separate location from the main building. The expectation was that we were staying in the stately home not what looked like an old pre fabricated school building. Yes carpet were soft and everything was comfortable. Television was tiny and hard to see. Also the shower was for us as a mature couple hard to navigate in and out of and felt that if one was more feeble it would be quite dangerous. Also navigating the hill if you were not fit is something to consider although a gold cart is provided to drop and collect if needed. Not a place to got to without a car. Yes staff good, food good but what they sold and what we got certainly did not match our expectations. Also the toilet block in the hotel by reception was not like any other four star hotel I have been to. It was more like something you would see in an airport.

Review 113:Stunning location, gorgeous gardens, friendly staff.

Review 114:Noise of footfall from the floor above, as well as from corridor, thin walls. But once people got to sleep, surroundings very quite. Quite a distance from the bus stop, but taxi to the centre not too expensive.

Review 115:Awesome estate, beautiful walks, mansion with fascinating history which is shared with guests in museum and brochures. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the bed was really comfortable, room and all premises clean and nice-smelling. Room and bathroom cleaned, towels changed, bed made up every day. Tea, coffee and drinking water refilled daily in room.

Review 116:Although we were able to manage the extensive grounds are on a hill and therefore might be more difficult for those guests with mobility problems. We were informed however that a buggy would be available to transport guests who needed it from the accomodation to the mansion and terrace

Review 117:We enjoyed the beautiful gardens and views from the terrace. Gaby and the other staff were friendly and helpful. The venue had an interesting history which was explained in the museum and theatre. The food was very good and our room was quiet and well furnished with everything we needed

Review 118:Noise of footfall from 1st floor on Sunday morning - not sure whether guests or cleaners from about 8am. Very loud and not able to sleep through it.

Review 119:Courtesy of staff and being provided with glass of champagne for sending another couple to our room.

Review 120:Build quality of accommodation block is university halls of residence - I woke when the person above did due to creaky floors. Breakfast was a limited selection (grapes/melon only fresh fruit); several hot dishes empty and not quickly refilled

Review 121:Setting of building - and the fact that guests were encouraged to enjoy it with mapped out walks

Review 122:that we where forgotten about for our main course . Apology and drink on house but felt disappointed .

Review 123:Beautiful grounds ,helpful staff ....nice clean room, museum a nice touch

Review 124:Room is good and clean with spacey separate bathroom, but facilities are a bit old fashioned (poor toilet flusher, poor window mechanics, missing an extra chair in the room, no reading lamps, although staff provided us with lamps after we asked). Hotel is also used for functions and parties which distracted the staff from the other guests (on Sunday, there was a wedding party) - we felt a bit 'lost' at that moment. Terrible bumps on access road! Even at very, very low speed, car touches bumps!

Review 125:Beautiful location, clean, friendly staff, helpful, good food, bedrooms are separated from main building, so parties and functions do not disturb, easy parking facilities. Interesting history of the main building.

Review 126:The lack of soundproofing means you can hear every word and movement in the corridor outside. The bed was hard and a bit lumpy. Breakfast was poor-nothing was cooked to order- there was no fresh decaffinated coffee and the hot water to make instant was lukewarm. I expect far better for the money.

Review 127:Room was clean and bathroom was good

Review 128:The accommodation blocks were disappointing from the outside - just square boring buildings in comparison to the old mansion. We were very dismayed to have our view from the window obscured by little square patterns on the glass!

Review 129:The surrounding gardens were absolutely gorgeous and extremely well maintained. Breakfast in the conservatory was lovely.

Review 130:One minor issue. The milk cartons in the room made my tea taste tangy and I couldn't drink it.

Review 131:The grounds were beautiful. The food was really good. The staff did their best to make our stay pleasant. I didn't mind being a quick walk away from the main building.

Review 132:Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Horrible rooms worst bed and pillows dated and not worth half the price. Shower didn't work. Toilet leaked. Basin tap didn't turn off. Tiny TV.

Review 133:The hotel accommodation is not an attached annex. It is up a hill pastthe bins and at the back if the hotel in separate units that are like anold people's home. U have tk let your self in to a communal entrancearea and then rooms are off that. Rooms are just like a travel lodge.Basic. Contemporary. The most cheap and basic bathroom ever!!Uncomfortable bed and you can here the people in the room above walkingback and forth as the floor boards are really noise. Room 112. We werewoken up at 5am as the light was streaming thru the window due to an illfitting blind gaping at the sides. We did not have a view. The smallwindow is frosted!!!! Like sleeping in a prison cell! Not a particularlyfavorable check in. Booked via a card on booking.com to secure. Theywanted a card again to secure the room and we went to the car to getthat. Then the wanted us to pay straight way!! Back to the car to get mypurse. Felt I wasn't trusted and didn't know anywhere that tookcard details twice and full room payment of £105 on first arrival beforewe had even seen the place! Wouldn't stay again. I could have gotthe same room for half the price at Travel lodge. You only go into themain mansion to eat and drink.

Review 134:Grounds are amazing! Beautiful setting. Well kept. Saw geese and rabbitsand squirrels. The Mansion itself is very grand but lacks a little soul.Breakfast was hot and nice enough. Not a huge choice for a 4 star hotelmind. Lacking anything like cold meats and cheeses etc for Europeantravellers. It could be so much better. It was nice but basic we felt.

Review 135:The accomodation is tucked away at the top of another hill. Reminiscent of university halls f residence it was disappointing. My single room was compact and stuffy.

Review 136:This booking was perfect for the nature of my trip. The staff were friendly and accommodating. It is in a beautiful setting with a big wow factor. The breakfast was delicious and views over the lake, stunning.

Review 137:The two single rooms I was initially allocated on consecutive nights were in extremely noisy locations by entrance doors that beeped and slammed constantly with other guests arriving. As a result I will only stay here again if booking a double room as the singles appear to be crammed into unsuitable parts of the buildings.

Review 138:Staff were very professional and efficient about upgrading me when I complained about the room I had been allocated. The double room I was given instead was beautiful, comfortable and very quiet. The grounds are breathtaking and breakfast was in a conservatory with stunning views.

Review 139:The new blocks of rooms had poor sound proofing . A wedding party made a lot of noise and mess on Saturday at 2am

Review 140:The impressive House the gardens Helpful staff good brekfasts

The Fine Print

Please note that part of the property is under renovation during 2015. All guests will be staying in the contemporary building on the site, rather than the main building.
