Reviews for Westwood House
Review 1:I've stayed in two other places in the same street in Dorchester, and this was by far the best. There is no fuss, everything is simple. The room I had was really excellent, and the breakfast choice was very good, and promptly served.
Review 2:Nothing.
Review 3:Just loved the whole experience, but if I have to choose it would be the bed. It looked so inviting and was super comfy. A close second was the breakfast, it was delicious and had the best selection of jams and marmelades I have ever seen.
Review 4:Close to perfect. Parking is available but it's not on site.
Review 5:Fully equipped and comfortable room showing care and attention to detail. Lovely big bathroom immaculately presented.
Review 6:Splendidly comfortable room - perfect for a three night working stay - spacious and with all one could need. Probably the best breakfast offering in Western Christendom ('Extra Strong Marmite' available - though not compulsory) - fantastic!... Made to feel very welcome. Thank you!
Review 7:We were warmly welcomed into this fabulous establishment right on the main street in Dorchester. The owners were kind and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was so comfy and I got a fabulous nights sleep.
Review 8:The welcome and the care.eg As soon as it was realised we were slightly disabled our luggage was carried upstairs into our room and the reverse was done the following morning. Breakfast is great.
Review 9:the cat wandering around the dinning area explained the amount of cat hair on my table.
Review 10:the location was fine ,the walk to the car park was no great hardship.
Review 11:Let down by tired and rather grubby entrance area and hall (finger prints on doors) with stale cooking smell. First impression poor but enjoyed the stay
Review 12:Very good room. Friendly welcome and service. Good breakfast.
Review 13:Hard to find negatives.... Maybe tissues in the bedroom? That's all I can think of!!!
Review 14:Everything! Beds super comfy Hospitable welcome but then left alone, no fuss which we really liked. Fantastic breakfast! Top marks Hot water and bath lovely Everything spotless Perfect!
Review 15:The bed!!! So uncomfortable have two pushed together like that!!
Review 16:I liked the quirkiness of the room and the staff made an effort to attend to my requests
Review 17:Tom was very welcoming, and he put thought into how it would work best fitting an extra bed into one of our rooms. The breakfasts were excellent and, considering it was in the town centre and we were in rooms at the front of the building, it was actually pretty quiet.
Review 18:The room was really comfortable and the breakfast was superb. And one other thing that really stood out was the lovely, friendly warm welcome on arrival.
Review 19:The bathroom sink was very low - not good for bad backs.
Review 20:The location, the bed, thoughtful touches eg tea/coffee/soya milk in fridge, toiletries. Lots of mirrors in the right places. A good hairdryer. A lovely gluten free breakfast including GF sausages.
Review 21:Loved this place so so worth the money we paid and the people were lovely.......oh and I can't usually sleep well anywhere but my own bed and the beds here were so comfortable! Breakfast was great too!
Review 22:Great little hotel wit spacious rooms and bathrooms. Personal touches like a bottle of milk in the fridge for tea and coffee (rather than those wee plastic pots), sample menus and host reviews from nearby eateries, and luggage scales in the cupboard were much appreciated. Would highly recommend.
Review 23:The welcome of the owners of this hotel was especially good...as was the quality of the breakfast they provided. We would definitely return to this hotel.
Review 24:Excellent hosts. Attentive but not intrusive. Bed was gigantic and very comfortable. Everywhere immaculately clean. Breakfast was absolutely superb with locally sourced ingredients (and you could taste the difference!).
Review 25:Not really a dislike more a minor inconvenience but no parking outside made it a bit of a pain with our luggage.
Review 26:Lovely people, beautiful house. Great breakfast!!
Review 27:Nothing bad at all. Found some of it a tiny bit grubby - went to put on the study table lamp, but thought better of it as the bulb was so thick with dust. The bathroom was fine, but could do with a lick of paint on the windows. They were period windows, but could still be painted and clean.
Review 28:Excellent location. Really excellent vegetarian breakfast - Superb!
Review 29:Only downside was parking up for unloading/loading, but that's old towns for you and nothing to do with Westwood House.
Review 30:Lovely, comfy bed; free wi-fi; lots of choice for breakfast, even for my veggie wife! Tom and Mel were great hosts.
Review 31:Travelling with 3 young children we had the top room, enough space for everyone. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 32:No car park but there is a pay and display at the top of the street, just 2 minutes walk away. All approx £4
Review 33:Very clean and well maintained. The owners were very friendly when needed. Good location for eating out and drinking. Great base for touring Weymouth, Poole, Bournemouth. Would go back.
Review 34:Comfortable friendly B&B. Melz and Tom were very welcoming. We will definitely be back we loved the location and all the great restaurants to hand. Breakfast was amazing. Thank you. X
Review 35:Nothing at all - I will definitely return.
Review 36:Really friendly owners; great breakfast; gorgeous room with lovely bathroom and comfy bed. Cannot fault the place or the people!
Review 37:Nothing, everything was good or better
Review 38:The host, Tom who made us feel extremely welcome. He couldn't do enough to help and as a family with a small child this was excellent. The room was well appointed, clean and comfortable with everything we could have needed. Breakfast was fast and delicious, with a great selection to choose from, and the surrounding for eating were both relaxed and stylish. I would unreservedly recommend Westwood house.
Review 39:The only downside is the absence of any parking...but a large midtown Car Park is just 200 yards away.
Review 40:The Owner was extremely helpful with my luggage up to my 2nd floor room, and very welcoming and pleasant throughout my stay.My breakfast was delicious and exceptionally well presented.
Review 41:No own parking (free on street & lots nearby) Some re-decoration would be good
Review 42:Location Beautiful old charm of the property Friendly welcome Great room Fab breakfast
Review 43:Only regret is that there is no lift, but it would be impossible to install one in this lovely old building.
Review 44:We have stayed several times and Tom is always very friendly and helpful and Melz serves an excellent breakfast. We have tried most of the rooms, all are pleasant, comfortable and although in the centre of town surprisingly quiet.
Review 45:Perhaps a continental breakfast choice might be an option, but this is really splitting hairs. There was nothing to dislike.
Review 46:Spotless and everything you could want for on an overnight stay was catered for - ironing board, iron, coffee, tea and hot chocolate facilities, wifi etc... Perhaps the best B&B we have ever stayed at overnight.
Review 47:Only downside no car park but the town car park is only 5 minutes walk away and cost only £4 for 24 hours so not really a problem
Review 48:Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms beautiful and clean. Breakfast sublime! Location central in town.
Review 49:We experienced a lot of noise from the floor above.
Review 50:Comfy bed Fantastic breakfast Some nice little touches (e.g. fresh milk in the fridge, wide selection of breakfast jams, hair drier and iron board provided etc.)
Review 51:A lovely place to stay, with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The room was well presented with nice touches. I slept very well. The breakfast was served in a lovely conservatory and there was plenty of choices. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 52:A really nice place to stay; brilliant location, close to the local museums and shops, room very comfortable and spacious, excellent breakfast served in a lovely conservatory and hosts very welcoming and friendly. Would highly recommend!
Review 53:Westwood House is a very attractive period building redolent of the historic town itself. I was greeted warmly on arrival and very much enjoyed my stay. The owners try very hard to please and succeeded on all counts - I have no complaints and hope to visit again.
Review 54:Nothing
Review 55:Egyptian cotton bed linen Bath facilities and towelling, Location at the top of the town on the high st. Superb breakfast served in a lovely conservatory
Review 56:- Hard pillows - Drinking glasses were left unwashed - Wi-fi was intermittent
Review 57:- An excellent location on the high street for access to local museums and shops - Nice old house - A nice cat
Review 58:A really great place to stay, close to shops and restaurants but very quiet in the bedroom. Such a comfortable room with large bed and even a small fridge in the sitting area so fresh milk for tea and coffee. Lovely shower and bathroom and decent size thick towels. Superb breakfast and very welcoming hosts. Would highly recommend.
Review 59:Arrived when it was Christmas shopping night and the road was closed off. Had to park up the road but moved the car to metered on road parking later that evening so handy the next morning
Review 60:Comfortable guest house with friendly owners Excellent breakfast
Review 61:Westwood house was perfectly situated for Dorchester town centre and yet was so quiet and homely we could have been in the middle of the countryside. Our room was immaculate and very well decorated. So much thought has been put into making the guests feel comfortable and at home from fresh milk in the fridge to toiletry essentials in the bathroom. The owners were friendly and welcoming and gave us an excellent suggestion for where to go to dinner (No.6 is a must go!). After a wonderful sleep we were woken up to smells of breakfast which was cooked to perfection! Safe to say we'll be back again next year after finding this Dorset gem!
Review 62:Some street noise which could possibly be helped by heavier curtains.
Review 63:Large clean room comfortable bed good bathroom facilities . Black out blinds form street light. Excellent freshly prepared cooks breakfasts.
Review 64:I can't think of anything.
Review 65:A really lovely, comfortable place. The room was well-designed and cosy and the owners seem to have put some thought into what a traveller might need and then to provide it. Great breakfasts and a very friendly black cat. I'd say it's a home from home, but it might in fact be more comfortable than my home!
Review 66:The only thing that I might mention is parking. The house is in the very centre of Dorchester, so you can expect charges during the day-time. On the other hand, it's a very convenient location for restaurants etc.
Review 67:A beautifully maintained house in the very centre of Dorchester. Our room was in excellent condition, and the reception we received was very friendly. What's more we enjoyed a very good breakfast. all in all, a treat.
Review 68:Large room with very comfortable king size bed, and a sofa and still room for small desk. Fresh milk in the fridge. Power shower. Quiet with double glazed windows and dark with black-out blinds. Go for Room 6, Abbottsbury if it's available. The perfect room. Oh and great breakfast.
Review 69:Hard to find any fault - only very minor issue was some noise coming from guests in the room above.
Review 70:This is a beautiful Georgian house B&B in the centre of Dorchester. My room was very large with a comfortable bed and huge shower; even though it faced the road there was minimal road noise. Breakfast was fantastic, and the owners extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 71:As above the lack of heating
Review 72:Position excellent clean and tidy rooms which were quite generous in size. Although b&b there was not any pressure to vacate at a particular time Breakfast excellent Staff very friendly and helpful Only criticism heating could have been better timed for the guests All in all would definitely recommend
Review 73:Nothing!
Review 74:Beautiful old house, well cared for, and big comfortable rooms. Large bed, good quality bedding made for a wonderful nights sleep. Extra touches like fresh milk in a mini fridge and the an excellent breakfast - we didn't want to leave!
Review 75:Nothing really - the car parking was not a problem at the weekend.
Review 76:Fresh milk in the fridge in the bedroom! This is the first hotel in which this has happened. I usually buy my own and keep it in a vacuum flask. An alarm clock beside the bed - I had forgotten to bring mine. Lovely nautical prints on the corridor walls. Super breakfasts eg - smoked salmon and poached egg.
Review 77:The entrance/ reception area is cramped but it is due to the nature of the property and beyond there all is well
Review 78:The relaxed atmosphere and the sense that no effort would be spared to ensure that we were as comfortable as possible
Review 79:Very clean hotel and an excellent breakfast. Warm and welcoming owners who go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The hotel is located in a great area to enjoy Dorchester
Review 80:The bedroom was very comfortable with a handy separate sitting room. Room 5 has this, not sure about the others. The shower was very good too. We have such a good one at home that we are often disappointed when we travel but this one was definitely up to scratch. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 81:Beds just so comfortable- I want one!!! Really nicely decorated room and very generous proportions . Lovely bed linen..and big towels that actually wrap round you easily if you have generous proportions. Breakfast was delicious. I will certainly come back owner very welcoming . I would 100% recommend
Review 82:Need to give at least 2 days notice of cancellation if required
Review 83:Super friendly staff, large rooms (mine had a separate living area) and fantastic choice of breakfast. Plus it seems to be priced lower than other hotels in the area, however I've stayed at the others and I much prefer this one.
Review 84:Very welcoming on arrival, very, very clean room. Amazing huge bed with lovely bedding. Great full English with a large variety. Entertained by the friendly resident cat!!
Review 85:Bed looked great but expectation of good night's sleep dashed by lumpy mattress which was a shame. Breakfast not as fabulous as guest book raves had us believe it would be. Except for the egg, the full English was probably cooked in a batch earlier and kept warm - mushrooms rubbery and hash brown processed and soggy. But rest was fine.
Review 86:Loved the central location and yet my room had a quiet little sitting area out the back and no traffic noise. The double room was clean, airy and freshly decorated and of a good size. The proprietor was helpful, cheerful and delivered breakfast promptly, in time for our on street parking meter.
Review 87:Could not find faults with accommodation no complaints
Review 88:Everything was spotlessly clean and excellent breakfast and very friendly management. We would definitely go there again.
Review 89:Traffic noise in the front facing rooms.
Review 90:Excellent choice and well prepared Breakfasts and a very friendly atmosphere. Very comfortable room with plenty of tea/coffee/drinking chocolate making facilities and sweets. Loved Tiny the friendly cat.
Review 91:We prefer a firmer mattress but the one on the bed was quite ok.
Review 92:Attentive and helpful hosts; large room; well appointed bathroom; good breakfast in a pleasant space; free overnight parking (off-site).
Review 93:Unfortunately travelling on business I need decent wifi and this guesthouse doesn't have a strong enough signal. But the facilities guide in the room is upfront about the signal being hit and miss
Review 94:It was actually excellent but it wouldn't fit in the headline. From the luggage weighing scales to the fresh milk in the fridge (in an old style pop bottle, with a wire stopper) the room had absolutely everything (including two flat screen TV's). Excellent service and breakfast
Review 95:Parking is a minor inconvenience. A full length mirror would have helped getting ready for a wedding!
Review 96:We enjoyed our stay. Good hospitality, comfortable and central for our needs. Excellent breakfasts in very attractive surroundings.
Review 97:Parking not on site, although reasonably close by. Means a bit of to and fro to drop bags off. Not a major issue.
Review 98:Warm welcome, excellent friendly and very helpful hosts, comfortable quiet room, good facilities, good location, award winning breakfast (literally), a superb place to stay.
Review 99:Excellent boutique establishment. Helpful and friendly staff, spacious room. excellent WiFi. Delicious individually crafted breakfast and a black cat to keep you company in the breakfast room.

Review 111:All very easy and late time of arrival was no problem
Review 112:Friendly welcome. Fantastic attention to detail. Home-like feeling. Really big, thick fluffy towels.
Review 113:Tasteful renovation and super breakfast area and sitting room. Great location on high street.
Review 114:Great room .... Host the most helpful and friendly Guy .... Couldn't do enough throughout our visit
