Reviews for Yalbury Cottage

Review 1:The food is excellent as are the rooms and the staff. We have stayed before and asked friends to join us this time. They also thoroughly enjoyed their stay.

Review 2:Wonderful food. Superb breakfast. Delightful staff. Superbly quiet and pretty location. A great location for exploring Dorset or just to chill out and dine well.

Review 3:An extremely friendly welcome, followed by a superb nights sleep and a lovely breakfast. The only thing to bear in mind is that breakfast starts at 8am...but it is well worth the slightly leisurely start!

Review 4:Only lovely experience , if my son and I were being picky , a bigger tv would have been good . As we both have poor eye sight even with glasses , but that's all . Lovely time will bring the dog next time . We know the phone signal or lack of it is not your fault x jan

Review 5:Nothing

Review 6:The interaction and attention to detail of the people running the hotel. They asked questions and seemed genuinely interested in our responses.

Review 7:There was nothing to dislike at all

Review 8:Absolutely first class service and facilities. All the attention to detail was there - this will be my go-to place for staying in Dorset in future.

Review 9:There was nothing about the place to dislike . The only disappointment was that we didn't book to eat there and were informed the day before that the restaurant was fully booked. We were given a recommendation of the local pub which was nice too. I would , however, recommend visitors phone and book when you book the room as, if the breakfast is anything to go by, the food there is first class. Best breakfast I have had on a weekend break !

Review 10:Tje setting was very nice but about a mile walk to the local pub along pretty country lanes.

Review 11:The staff were most welcoming and courteous. Everything had been prepared for my birthday celebration lunch with my family of 8 and we enjoyed drinks outside before a beautifully laid table in the dining room which we had to ourselves. The service and the food were excellent.

Review 12:Bathroom very tired, shower in room 3 needs attention. Sat in dining room for 10 mins at breakfast before having to go and find someone to order. Travel a lot and stayed in much better places locally for a lot less. Restaurant probably very nice but expensive. Breakfast served late so not good for those staying on business

Review 13:Location

Review 14:Very best of service and dining experience. Really understanding about the restrictions that travelling with pets can place on you and the staff made our stay a complete joy, despite the poor weather.

Review 15:There seemed to be a lot flies in the dining room at breakfast which I didn't like because of the open butter and jams.

Review 16:Lovely greeting when arrived. Everything no trouble to help if needed. And the Breakfast Brill

Review 17:Car parking was not very good. Preference should be given to the people staying there not to casual restaurant customers. Beds not very comfortable. Not many food options nearby for dining out.

Review 18:Breakfast excellent, lovely and quiet, very clean, good wifi.

Review 19:The cheese or rarebit course on the menu was confusing! We could have a 2 or 3 course meal, but were not sure if all 4 courses classed as 3 courses! WiFi didn't seem to be working in the morning. £120 a night is out of our budget really, but it was a treat!

Review 20:Lovely property and location. Comfy bed. WiFi. Good food & drinks. Courteous, friendly staff. Sunny weather for sitting in the garden with a drink! The biscuits made by Charlie, the apprentice! £120 a night is out of our budget really, but it was a treat! Will recommend to others.

Review 21:I traveled with my son to Talkfest 2015 and we stayed at Yalbury Cottage. It was great in all respects - location, room, breakfast, dinner and staff were all excellent.

Review 22:I thought the evening meal was expensive and there was no indication of the price before you booked the meal. Having said that the restaurant was fully booked so other people had a different opinion.

Review 23:The location of the cottage was excellent and the facilities of the cottage were second to none.

Review 24:The outdoor facilities and garden beautiful, but spoilt by the Mosquitos.

Review 25:Generous-sized bedroom, nicely decorated, very good dining experience, lovely hostess.

Review 26:Rooms are clean, and generally well equipped but fairly bland and slightly overpriced for what they are. A little more effort on styling and design for instance; nicer lighting, would make for better overall value and experience. Could offer more range on coffee and tea options!

Review 27:The food. Very good and excellent value. Excellent dining experience.

Review 28:Loved every aspect of this hotel, from the area which was very picturesque, the accommodation was really comfortable, very friendly staff & Ariane was lovely, food was absolutely gorgeous...cannot fault anything, & I'm fussy !

Review 29:Plastic covers on dining and breakfast tables. No shaver point in our room(4). Toilet seat a bit wobbly!

Review 30:Very helpful owners. Clean and bright decorations. Good food.

Review 31:Bedroom fairly basic and old fashioned, not in a quaint way, with a noisy appliance in a locked cupboard which kept us awake for some time in the early hours of the morning.

Review 32:Good evening meal, canapés delicious and an excellent breakfast. Lounge and dining area characterful with beams and inglenook fireplaces. Modern pristine bathroom with good pressure in over bath shower.

Review 33:Charming cottage in a stunning location. Warm welcome for us and our puppy, wonderful food and excellent staff. Ariane and Jamie should be very proud of their achievements. Thank you for a delightful stay, next time we'll make it longer!!

Review 34:Lovely peaceful rooms with excellent facilities. Wonderful breakfast. A short drive from Dorchester, and in a tranquil location. Highly recommended!

Review 35:Although the lounge was nice I found the sofa a little uncomfortable, but being such a busy place it is bound to get a lot of use.

Review 36:The little things make all the difference, my husband loves his coffee, so having a cafetière in the room was great, also home made biscuitsis a nice touch.

Review 37:Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay in a spotlessly clean and comfortable room. Food at breakfast and dinner was well cooked, delicious and well presented. We were made to feel most welcome by everyone there. Will definitely return and recommend to our friends and family.

Review 38:Nothing in walking distance no village pub ,food in restaurant was ok but I think they think they are better than they actually are posh food that doesn't really deliver was served raw scallops and had to change starter

Review 39:Staff very friendly and helpful, left in peace feels so homely and comfatable, breakfast was excelent

Review 40:Lovely room with spectacular views of garden and fields, a joy to wake up to. The food - and presentation of it - was the best in a very long time, and what superb value for money. A most enjoyable three night stay, which we hope to repeat soon. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, in particular the young waiter and waitress who attended us during our stay.

Review 41:A "climb in bath" to shower, The strength of the water power of the shower was barely adequate.

Review 42:The level of service and attention to detail was outstanding with fine dining that you could not fault.

Review 43:If we had to say anything negative it would be that the shower for us wasn't powerful enough.

Review 44:The whole experience from start to finish. We were warmly welcomed. All the staff were friendly nothing was to much trouble. The food was to die for yum yum.

Review 45:Nothing to dislike

Review 46:The room & facilities good with comfortable bed. We had breakfast and evening meal, both exceptional. Owners and staff friendly and provided excellent service. Would stay here again if in the area and will recommend to family and friends.

Review 47:Food was a bit too rich (and expensive) if you are going to be eating there every night. An option of lower-priced, simpler bar meals would be good for business travellers. Wifi in the lounge and dining room would be good for solo travellers. Larger desk/table in the room would also be good for business travellers.

Review 48:Room was comfortable and good value. Wifi generally worked well. Food was very high quality, and service was excellent.

Review 49:We wouldn't have changed anything.

Review 50:The food is easily the best in the area. If you want a peaceful, relaxing break where you feel thoroughly spoilt, this is the place. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

Review 51:The fact we couldn't stay longer! Bed was adequate.

Review 52:The building, beautiful Christmas decorations, fabulous food, excellent choices. Friendly, attentive staff.

Review 53:The peace and solitude and the friendliness of the staff and owners. The food was superb and we had two excellent dinners, one of which was the best I have had in a long time.

Review 54:Car park a bit small and crowded

Review 55:Only stayed one night but hopefully will be back next year in better weather. Lovely location, very quiet, good dog walking close by. The staff were very polite, helpful and very welcoming. The room was large, clean and comfortable with everything that you would need. Didn't eat dinner but breakfast was really good. Welcomed our dog who thoroughly enjoyed her stay.

Review 56:Too much emphasis on energy saving lighting throughout resulting in a dim atmosphere. A decent reading lamp and or dressing table lamp could relieve that problem.

Review 57:Good food Friendly service Quiet Intimate and orderly.

Review 58:Beautiful cottage, very quiet location, pleasant staff/owners, courteous service, food delicious, attention to detail, room lovely with very comfortable beds and adjustable heating. Spacious and personable - very much a luxury guest house than a hotel room. Suited our needs perfectly. Just fabulous!

Review 59:We don't know where to start because we liked it all. Everything was to hand with very well designed rooms and lots of good facilities. Real coffee in the hotel bedroom.

Review 60:The owners were amazing and made me feel very welcome. Also the food was absolutely delicious! After having lunch there I decided to stay for dinner as well and was not disappointed.

Review 61:Peace and quiet and in the middle of Thomas Hardy country which is reached by a single track road. The setting is amazing! Yarbury cottage appeared as a heaven as I drove towards it in the pouring rain. No disruptions as mobile phone reception is non-existent. What a way to spend a few days regrouping, refocusing and recharging away from the hustle bustle.

Review 62:None

Review 63:Perfect remote location, competent staff, exceptional presentation and quality of food made for an unforgettable countryside experience. Beautiful garden and on spot details. Inspirational place, well above its current 3 stars.

Review 64:A wonderful boutique hotel which surpassed all our expectations. Delicious food, a lovely room with views overlooking meadows and great hosts. Some truly delightful touches making our stay very special.

Review 65:Not much to dislike, just getting to used over head occupants. But all is temporary. Did run out of hot water as I decided to have a relax in the bath. Guessed all was on a timer so not a problem.

Review 66:Excellent accommodation and beautifully presented meals. The staff we impeccable. Our experience was for one night away to enjoy and we did.

Review 67:I cannot find anything to fault.

Review 68:Location, peacefulness, attention to detail. Friendliness of owner made us feel so welcome. Room is the best I've stayed in for a very long time. Hospitality in the room was extensive and generous. Breakfast was a delight, top grade food, great service. Fantastic experience, have every intention to visit again.

Review 69:Yalbury Cottage is in an idyllic setting, the food was exceptional and this was matched by the friendly welcome and the excellent service. We will return.

Review 70:A little short of car-parking spaces, but possibly because of a (very quiet) party in the restaurant

Review 71:Great to be able to take our dog; comfortable, well-presented room; delicious breakfast; efficient and friendly staff; beautiful gardens, with tables and chairs outside too.

Review 72:Comfort and delicious food.

Review 73:The food as always was perfect, as were the staff and the atmosphere in the restaurant in the evening.

Review 74:The staff, evening meal, breakfast, hospitality, our room, the other guests.

Review 75:the food was amazing and beautifully presented

Review 76:Friendly, lots of nice touches, fab food

Review 77:Friendly staff, large and clean room in a beautiful and quiet location. Lovely breakfast, with large selection.

Review 78:The Breakfast was amazing! Wonderful fresh, high quality ingredients cooked to perfection - well worth the stay for this alone.

Review 79:Comfortable room in a peaceful location. Friendly and helpful staff. Food excellent. Amazing breakfast with a good choice to suit everyone.

Review 80:Excellent, welcoming service. Excellent food, both the breakfast and particularly the evening meal.

Review 81:Everything

Review 82:The welcome was warm and the food was excellent. We were very well looked after and impressed by the attention to detail.

Review 83:Wonderful food, lovely helpful staff and owner, relaxed atmosphere AND was the doggie called "Buster," loved him!

Review 84:Great welcome and ability to recommend somewhere nearby for a meal on our arrival as we had forgotten to book a table in advance.

Review 85:Dated and tired decor and furniture. Bathroom poor quality and small. Shower curtain. Small basin.

Review 86:Excellent staff and host.

Review 87:Couldn't find fault with anything!

Review 88:Staff were very competent and friendly and there was an imaginative vegetarian menu.

Review 89:Attention to detail in everything

Review 90:Excellent place, service great and food heavenly

Review 91:Staff and overall ambience were wonderful

Review 92:Comfortable stay, very good evening meal & breakfast

Review 93:Easy access, parking on-site, lovely room and shower. Very friendly and efficiently run. Would go back again
