Reviews for Casa Leone Boutique Hotel
Review 1:There is nothing to dislike about Casa Leone so this is not criticism but, rather, a couple of tips. If you have significant mobility problems book a room on the reception level to avoid stairs. Our room was accessed by a moderately steep, semi-spiral staircase which wasn't a problem for us as we're still fairly mobile at around 70. Baggage was no problem as the owner Nikos, and staff insisted on carrying the cases. Also, our room had no view except from the balcony. If bad weather kept you off the terrace for long that could be a bit disappointing. There's no risk during summer but bear it in mind if staying in winter. That said, we were able to use the terrace every day during our four days over Christmas.
Review 2:We know Hania well and assumed a view over the harbour would be great: we were not disappointed. Our room (Honeymoon Suite) had a large, completely private, terrace (about 30m²), protected from any breeze, where we could sit with a coffee and view the whole Venetian harbour and out to sea. The building has been sensitively restored and must be very close to its original state - sumptuous. Our room (serviced daily) had a huge bed and all the promised facilities, mini-bar etc., were neatly hidden in period style furniture. The bathroom might be best described as bijou but adequate, well appointed, with an excellent, powerful shower and seemingly unlimited hot water. Service from the owners and staff was friendly and attentive and the typically Cretan breakfast, which varied daily, was excellent and plentiful. There are many restaurants, tavernas, cafés and bars in the area and while there are tempting places on the harbourside it can be very rewarding to find smaller, family run places in the narrow streets of the Old Town around the hotel.
Review 3:We had the pleasure to stay at Casa Leone for a couple of days during the Christmas period. Nikos (the owner), Maria and Gogo, offered us a genuine Cretan hospitality in the wonderful Venetian style hotel. We thank them for the excellent service, the fantastic breakfast, the warm environment and an opportunity to transient back in time!!
Review 4:The room was difficult to heat as it was on two levels with the upper level getting very hot whilst the lower level remained cold for some time. A room at the front would have been warmer as they get more sun.
Review 5:Relaxed atmosphere. Good breakfast. Situation of hotel. View of harbour from lounge area.
Review 6:It is a little difficult to find but once there everything is within walking distance. Bathroom on the small side.
Review 7:A fantastic experience awaits if you can get a room with a harbour view. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Good restaurants within a 5 minute walk but not the ones on the waterfront.
Review 8:small shower, not actually a big deal cause everything else was great :)
Review 9:great location. extremely accommodating and friendly staff. very clean and beautiful rooms.
Review 10:Light sleepers may require ear-plugs. But some - acceptable - noise from the harbour is the quid pro quo (in our case, gladly paid) for the fabulous view and location.
Review 11:Four years ago my then girlfriend - now wife - and I stayed in a rustic stone Cretan villa in he elevated setting of Aptera. We loved the view of Souda Bay but were less enamoured of the animal life that regularly made its way under the door to keep us company at night. This time we decided to leave the geckos, roaches and ants up in the hills and head for the much less rustic, more cosmopolitan setting of Chania. And within that setting there can be few more pleasing or beautiful guest houses than the Casa Leone. Positioned right beside the beautiful Venetian outer harbour, the hotel is housed within a stunning and sensitively renovated building dating from the hegemony of the Repubblica Marinara in its pomp. Our room, the Casa Leone Suite, was spacious, very clean, properly air- conditioned, wood floored, nicely furnished with antiques and had a balcony view over the harbour that I doubt could anywhere be bettered in Chania. A mezzanine bedroom under the eaves added to the romantic, grand and rather dreamy feel of the place. Breakfasts were every day fulsome and imaginative, offering fresh fruit and juice, varied hot pastries, eggs and rich Greek yoghurt. Anna and her staff were, without being intrusive, at all times hospitable, engaged and helpful. I am increasingly fussy about hotels but find it impossible to fault Casa Leone. It was in every way the perfect choice in what for me is one of the loveliest places in the Mediterranean, inhabited by some of the nicest individuals -the Cretan people - one could ever hope to meet. I can't wait to go back. (And to my wife's relief there wasn't a gecko in sight.)
Review 12:A beautiful old building, very nicely converted, with wonderful views over the harbour. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 13:The coffee could have been better, but not an instant one. Yet, this is truly the only shortcoming which comes in mind.
Review 14:We were fascinated by the view over the port, the atmosphere in the lobby and the hospitality of the staff. We were happy and fascinated all the time and grateful to be there.
Review 15:The bathroom was cramped, but we didn't care because everything else was so amazing.
Review 16:Casa Leone was an amazing place to stay - we were overwhelmed by the hospitality of the staff and felt spoiled with the snacks, amazing breakfast and baklava. The breakfast was by far the best I've had at a B&B or hotel. Our room's decor was beautiful and the sheets were some of the softest we've ever slept in. The AC was great. We loved the view from the balcony (our room didn't have one but we used the common area balcony) and spent our afternoon comfortably soaking in the Chania old harbor experience with our wine and reading from the balcony. We highly recommend this hotel.
Review 17:The free WiFi is useful, but is slow, we couldn't watch a film online. It takes some time to get to the hotel from any place where parking is allowed, and I would have appreciated more instructions on where it is better to park the car.
Review 18:It is lovely, a beautiful 16-century mansion, that has a stunning view and a balcony at the hall overlooking the old harbour. We stayed at a room with a backyard view, but it was all right. There are only five rooms and it feels like home.
Review 19:Can be a challenge finding the Casa Leone when you arrive. Parking can be difficult even though the small public car park is only a few minutes away. It can be noisy at night.
Review 20:Being in the middle of the old town with all the small streets to explore was very nice as was the view from the balcony. The people who run the guest house are very helpful and friendly. The building had been restored with a great deal of care and attention making it a very nice place to stay.
Review 21:The trade-off is noise at night - and right through to the early hours, in fact. But you don't come to Chania Old Town for peace and quiet - it's a wonderful lively place.
Review 22:Location is right on the harbour, looking down over sea, boats, the bay - great for people watching. The old town setting is great, and you can wander all day without being bored.
Review 23:we wish we could have more time to spend here.
Review 24:uniqueness of hotel's interior, unbeatable view from our private balcony. it's not the beauty that you can find anywhere else but here. it's worth every single penny you spend. The owner even offer us free wine when he know we have to leave early and will miss the breakfast. lovely impressive town!
Review 25:The owner was really kind to prepare us breakfast the night before when he knew that we have to leave the suite at 4.45 am the following day to catch a bus. :)
Review 26:Sensational location, right in the old town of Chania, overlooking the harbour. A private, sun trap terrace with chairs and table, a wonderful place to relax and take in the views across the harbour. Wonderfully comfortable room. Excellent breakfasts. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly, English speaking staff, who became more like friends as the days went by. We could not recommend this hotel highly enough and will definitely return, for longer, next time!
Review 27:For an optimal experience, carefully consider what your tolerance for noise level is. We sleep with white noise, and thus, selecting a room overlooking the harbor was the perfect decision for us. However, if you are a light sleeper, and it's a priority for you to enjoy those same views, you will likely be disturbed by the noise directly below the hotel. Again, totally worth it for us, but worth mentioning for those travelers who might be better off choosing a room facing the courtyard.
Review 28:The location is unbeatable-situated right above the old Venetian harbor with the most perfect little wine bar and cafe below. The views are incredible, particularly if you opt for a room with a balcony overlooking the water. The room is romantic, charming and spacious. Breakfast (not included) was different every day and was made with care. Lovely hosts and immediate access to numerous fish tavernas and excellent eateries. Very centrally located to both the harbor and the neighboring more city-like part of town.
Review 29:We only had one complaint, and unfortunately there is little the owners can do. At our age we really do not want to listen to the sounds of a disco until the dawn, and the subsequent wanderings of noisy drunken revelers
Review 30:The hotel is beautifully fitted out, the staff are helpful and attentive. Its position is perfect for exploring.
Review 31:The location is perfect, overlooking the harbor in one of the prettiest towns in Greece. The hotel is a renovated and historic Venetian palazzo dating back 6 centuries. The owner and his colleague Maria are warm, helpful hosts. We spent a wonderful 3 nights.
Review 32:No bar , but this did not matter because local tavernas abounded only a few steps away. There was nothing too much trouble for the charming owners and their staff. One of our very favourite hotels
Review 33:Like staying in a particularly lovely house belonging to generous friends. Views sublime and rooms large and beautifully done up.
Review 34:Shower is only adequate. Would have preferred a harbour view, although court yard is very pretty. Having to come home.
Review 35:The location is spot on. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Very clean and well maintained, sympathetically restored old building. Maria is the perfect host, always ready to help with a smile. Breakfasts are generous and well prepared, mostly local cuisine so may not be to everyone's taste. Loved it basically.
Review 36:I cannot recall something I didn't like. Our stay in Chania was excellent.
Review 37:Very nice picturesque city. An abundance of nice restaurants with very nice atmosphere and food. The Hotel is located right in the middle of everything. A very relaxing experience, as we were getting up with the view of the Venetian Old Harbour right below our balcony. The hotel staff were exquisite, very friendly and helpful whenever we needed something. Our stay in Chania and our hotel was fantastic. We would definitely try to go there again.
Review 38:The Casa Leone is a beautifully restored gem of an hotel in the old town of Chania with a gorgeous view of the harbour. Sumptuous surrounds, friendly and helpful staff and a great breakfast cap off the experience.
Review 39:The only one thing that was a problem is one or two bars along the harbour front did stay open until the early hours playing loud music but this is probably a price you have to pay for the prime position the hotel is situated but is totally out of the control of the hotel
Review 40:Very welcoming friendly people Beautiful rooms, fabulous views of the harbour Close to everything The buidling is full of character and kept extremly clean We will definitely return
Review 41:Not being able to drive to the hotel directly (and many stairs) may be a downside if you have heavy luggage or mobility issues. Not a problem for us, though. We loved everything about our stay here.
Review 42:The breakfast here was the best we had on our whole trip to Greece, and the hospitality was all-around outstanding. We were greeted with coffee, fruit and pastries when we arrived, and so well taken care of.
Review 43:There is no direct access to the hotel by car.
Review 44:This is a very small hotel directly overlooking the busy old harbour of Chania. Despite his the hotel feels very quiet and relaxed even serene. The location is ideal for exploring the old town of Chania.
Review 45:The wi-fi is not great in the bedroom and is non-existent on the private terrace.
Review 46:We stayed at Casa Leone for 10 nights in the honeymoon room, not because we were just married but selected purely for its private terrace overlooking the beautiful harbour of Chania. Casa Leona is traditional, paying huge respect to its origins as a Venetian gem. With only 5 rooms, it is a boutique hotel which allows for a friendly, sociable feel but also offers privacy within its characterful rooms. Antonia, Maria, all their small team are delightful. Welcoming guests with smiles & providing help/information about the hotel, Chania or wider Crete. The breakfasts are served primarily in main lounge/reception area and be prepared as you will be offered fine Cretan based food but far more than you'll need! You won't find a better location for your stay. We enjoyed views over the bustling harbour from our private terrace which is well equipped. The harbour front is lively at night but our room was quiet, away from noise. Rooms are not large but are big enough & ensuites are compact but have everything you need - our room is in keeping with the origins of the building decorated in a traditional style. Casa Leone is located in the prettiest part of the old town with narrow streets & beautiful old buildings with decorative wrought iron Venetian style balconies dripping with colourful flowers. It's a photographers dream. We spent some days walking, exploring east & west along the front & others meandering around the small lanes of the old town. We hired a car for 7 days which also allowed us freedom to discover the surrounding area of western Crete. We particular liked the beach at Kalathas as it attracted less tourists, more locals & provided a constant sea breeze, safe swimming & all we were seeking for our days on the beach. We hope to return to Chania & would love to stay at Casa Leone again.

Review 73:Ambience absolutely fitting to the setting in the town.
Review 74:Position unsurpassable. Nothing too much trouble for staff- always keen to assist. Rooms have great character.
Review 75:Nightclub nearby
Review 76:Location and host.
Review 77:Noisy bar below
Review 78:Breakfast
Review 79:The male host (there in the afternoons/evenings) made us feel unwelcomed - not friendly and never dropped a word so had an awkward feel generally. A complete opposite to the hostess there in the mornings who was so nice and friendly. Given we paid high season price for the most expensive room this spoiled the overall experience somewhat.
Review 80:The female hostess very friendly and nice. A honeymoon suite beautiful with large terrace and amazing views. Great breakfast served in the morning by the hostess. Great old town location
Review 81:Really lovely place and Antonia made us very welcome. It was more than just a place to stay it was like a few days living in a beautiful old Venetian house.
Review 82:You need to assess the rating by local standards. It's quite basic accommodation compared to what is available in many other places in Crete and in Greece generally.
Review 83:Location and view. Lovely yogurt for breakfast.
Review 84:Location is the best in Chania with beautiful view. Service is amazing, helpful and accommodating. I am a celiac and the staff went out of their way to provide me with gluten free options. Wouldn't hesitate a moment in recommending Casa Leone.
Review 85:Everything was great, no room for complaints.
Review 86:Fantastic quiet location, amazing views, spacious breakfast room, overfriendly staff, hearty breakfast and a very good bookshop next to the hotel.
Review 87:It was closed when we showed up. But within 2 mins someone was there. But we were off season travelers and this is expected sometimes.
Review 88:Decor and view are great. Location is perfect at Chania Harbor.
Review 89:They were very friendly and had a nice gift for us when we arrived since it was our honeymoon. The breakfast was very good. The staff had helpful suggestions on places to explore.
Review 90:The washroom was small and felt somewhat like a bathroom in a mobile home. The location meant we were right in the middle of the action but also made it slightly noisy at night. The price was high but I suppose that is probably the norm in Chania.
Review 91:The room was huge and beautiful, the port-side balcony was nice, and breakfast was very good.
Review 92:rooms at front of hotel are noisy from late hour clubs on boardwalk, if you are a light sleeper, book amazing rooms away from boardwalk and harbor side in spite of the vies
Review 93:exceptional hotel, quaint, spotless, fantastic location, exceptional staff and service
Review 94:If you travel by taxi be prepared to walk a few hundred yards as carscannot come up to the hotel after 11 am. Also it was not easy to find (amap of the alleyways would have been good) but that was part of itscharm too.
Review 95:The staff were very friendly and efficient too. It was a small, individual hotel right on the old harbour, in a fantastic position: theimmediate area is full of little Venetian alleys. The staff made a bigeffort with the breakfast - a different Cretan dish every day.
Review 96:No dislikes
Review 97:Fantastic location on harbour front. Full of character and charm. Our room, which was the Honeymoon Suite, was a good size, clean and with a large private terrace with a great view of the harbour and ideal for sunbathing. The staff were warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were a feast. We look forward to staying there again.
Review 98:Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, beautiful rooms, great location and views, awesome breakfast - we could not have had a better experience.
Review 99:Location was superb. We had the room with the terrace and the view couldn't be beat. The staff was excellent and went beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Breakfast was very good. With only 5 rooms, the hotel has a very romantic feel.
Review 100:Everything. It could not have been better.
Review 101:A bit noisy on the Saturday night as some rooms are above a sports bar.
Review 102:Great location, amazing views, helpful staff, enormous wonderful breakfast.
