Reviews for The Tunbridge Wells Hotel

Review 1:Rm 21 had Windows front and back. The back one needed secondary glazing. The traffic noise was horrible. It spoils a good night sleep in a beautiful room

Review 2:Central location. Excellent breakfast

Review 3:We arrived on Christmas evening and the greeting that we received was unbelievably unfriendly. The boy that showed us to the room (up three flights of stairs) rushed up so fast that despite the fact that we are both sports people, we couldn't keep up with him (carrying bags) and we lost him along the way. He was waiting impatiently for us by the room and as soon as we arrived he rushed off (even though, when we arrived in the hotel, he was standing with nothing to do in the bar). The room was huge, but more than half of it was taken up with a free standing bath that served no particular purpose (there was a nice bathroom). The bed, however, was small and uncomfortable (we had booked a superior double room). We were arrived at 10.30 pm and as we are runners and didn't want to get up too early to run before breakfast, we asked what time breakfast finished we were told 10.30. On our return from running, we found it was actually being served until 11.00. We had a bottle of still water in the room and a deluxe coffee maker with no instructions how to use it.... no guest directory to explain anything... for GBP 200 (even at Christmas) we felt it was pretty bad value. Before writing this review, we wrote to the hotel a week ago to tell them our thoughts but have not had an answer.

Review 4:Lovely location on the Pantiles. Nice ambience in the restaurant. Nice bathroom

Review 5:Had requested a quiet room through this site - was definitely not. Overlooked a busy intersection = constant traffic noise. And staff member who I discussed moving rooms with was unsympathetic/dismissive unless I paid more. Plus: no door between room and bathroom and no one picked up phone on reception/room service.

Review 6:Lack of lift is a real problem for longer stays where you have more luggage, but with this being a listed building that's an impossibility Pillows were very poor, tried different ones No coffee facilities in the room is poor in this day and age Lack of shelves in bathroom ( in the 2 rooms I experienced )

Review 7:The staff were very good Food excellent Bed 5ft excellent Location excellent Overall would absolutely stay again, but a few extra pounds spent from the profits would make a world of difference

Review 8:Size of room was disappointing enough, but the size of double bed was an insult. I was too exhausted from the long drive to make a fuss, but I did sleep on the floor, by the window, next to my dog. There was only room on the bed for my husband. Vague parking instructions - not what's needed in a pit stop. We parked in the street below instead. "Holiday sauce" not available at breakfast, but featuring on the menu. Had some indifferent sausage served dry in hardboard. Where was the Chef?

Review 9:Location and refurb standard. Some of the staff in the evening were OK, but the morning lot were excellent.

Review 10:One snooty young barmaid

Review 11:comfort and convenience.. Interesting take on breakfast- choose one item ONLY!!! Friendliness and helpfulness of staff in general

Review 12:Only negative was when we came to pay our bill, we had other peoples drinks on it, which is disappointing

Review 13:Service was fabulous and we really enjoyed the stay and would come again

Review 14:Room was too hot, and the air conditioning was noisy, so I couldn't win. I was delivered room service that I hadn't ordered and this was added to my bill, although I hadn't received it. In fairness this was subtracted quickly when I explained the problem.

Review 15:Friendly staff, comfortable bed, good location

Review 16:Car park is off site. It is only a 2 minute walk, but I can see that being annoying in bad weather. It is also unlit which might be a worry for some people.

Review 17:Good sized room, nicely decorated, excellent bed, fantastic food, nice comfortable bar / restaurant / lounge area, friendly staff. Would happily stay here again.

Review 18:It would have been helpful if the info about the hotel had indicated which parking to use for the free parking. (Its Pantiles)

Review 19:The location, ambience and welcome was good. Live music i the evening was a bonus.

Review 20:We came back for a drink after a night out and were told we weren't allowed even though the bar was full of non residents. We were then grudgingly allowed a drink before we had to go to our room or leave. Bit odd for a hotel bar!

Review 21:I bought this as a present for a friend's 40th birthday. She and her husband enjoyed their stay (aside from the comment above) and the location was excellent.

Review 22:I had an excellent stay here. The rooms are really comfortable, well decorated and very clean. The breakfast selection is impressive, especially the full English. The staff are very helpful and really polite. Also ate here one evening and found the food to be equally impressive.

Review 23:The walls are very thin and spent the night hearing everything from next room. The beds are incredibly uncomfortable but most concerning was the temperature the towel rail in the bathroom was kept at. One member of the party caught their arm on it and burnt so badly it blistered.

Review 24:The size of the room

Review 25:Room was rather small and up a lot of stairs and sloping floors got more tiresome as the night progressed

Review 26:Great location, lovely staff, splendid breakfast

Review 27:Fantastic opportunity to stay at this quality accommodation right in centre of Tunbridge Wells. The morning staff were superb, really accommodating and the breakfast was great!

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Location, room situation with view over Pantiles and opposite bandstand, staff firendliness and efficiency, GREAT lunch and breakfast. Excellent not to have to do self-service breakfast :-)

Review 30:The room was very hot, and the air conditioning did little to change this. A glass topped side table was smashed and, although noticed by a member of staff, wasn't replaced because they didn't have a spare - I all honesty though, there was no danger and we weren't particularly fussed. I'm sure she would have done something if we'd complained. The food looked better than it tasted.

Review 31:The location was amazing. The room looked good and the majority of the staff were very friendly and efficient.

Review 32:The was a vibrating in the room which was a bit annoying.

Review 33:Great bed, great breakfast, great time. Room was very well decorated with a massive wooden bed.great shower. Downstairs bar was nice.

Review 34:Not very well signposted or directions not clear to find car park or the hotel No tea making facility Rooms mainly up a lot of stairs

Review 35:Located close to the old town Historic property with great character Fabulous comfortable beds Good breakfast included Car parking Restaurant on site very good

Review 36:No teamaking facilities in room, bed was very uncomfortable, staff don't seem to be trained in the basics, bedroom was on top floor but no mention of this in booking

Review 37:Staff were very friendly and accomodating, but seemed to la k in experience

Review 38:Single room had no chair or chest of drawers, so nowhere to put anything. Layout of the room meant that there couldn't be a bedside table - lamp was on opposite side of the room.

Review 39:Perfect location. Relaxing ambience. Excellent cooked breakfast, although limited to one item from menu. When queried, I was told to choose more if I wanted. Portions were large, but would have preferred more small portions of different items.

Review 40:Parking, and as husband is disabled no lift and lots of stairs, which proved to be difficult.

Review 41:The relaxed atmosphere, very friendly staff and very comfortable beds.

Review 42:The car park is a public carpark out of town close to hotel. It is pitch Black in the evenings and surrounded by trees -frightening for most ladies on their own. No teatray in the bedrooms have to ring for room service but thats not conveniant for most customers. A bit difficult at unsocial hours.

Review 43:Good attentive friendly staff.

Review 44:The rooms were too hot and noisy, cooking smells from the kitchen came up into the room. The bathroom was very cramped. Sink so small. The staff were rushing around and were very disorganised. At breakfast we had to keep repeating our order and food and drinks took a long while to arrive. Also noisy from the pantiles. Expensive rooms for the bad service we received.

Review 45:Nicely decorated. Food very tasty.

Review 46:I thoroughly enjoyed my brief stay at Tunbridge Wells Hotel. Staff was very efficient and helpful. Got an upgrade from single to a double bedroom! Will definetely stay here if I return to Tunbridge Wells.

Review 47:Noise from road. No lift. No tea and coffee-making facilities in bedroom. Very small bathroom but what do you expect with price paid.

Review 48:Breakfast. Good bar and dining room. Comfortable lounge area.

Review 49:Although parking is free it is located separately which requires visiting the hotel to collect a pass. Essentially, one is required to park illegally and hope for the best when arriving at reception. Breakfast was fine but the eggs lacked seasoning and there was no salt on any of the tables.

Review 50:Great location on the Pantiles, staff were welcoming and helpful. Room was clean and pleasant despite its small dimensions. The bar was nice and well stocked.

Review 51:Bed was very small - we'd booked a King Size but this was certainly not a King. Room gloomy and near kitchen with food smells along corridor

Review 52:Good central location, free parking

Review 53:Poorly cooked breakfast (full english) Could only choose one option, so no toast, no cereal, no juice, if you wanted tea and a cooked breakfast. Decor fine, but dull

Review 54:Spacious bedroom Locality

Review 55:Overpriced pork belly meal in the restaurant consisted mainly of fat. I then sent the inedible chocolate torte dessert back. In our room the hand shower and bathroom mirror light were both broken. Booking.com didn't make the full cost clear either. We thought the total price they gave of £149.00 was for two nights not one! So it was expensive for the quality and our room was up 5 flights of stairs with no lift.

Review 56:Location

Review 57:The mattresses were a little soft for our liking, but at home we sleep on a firm mattress, so it's a very subjective comment. Our room faced the back and the road can get quite noisy if you have the window open. However, on a Saturday night the pedestrianized front area is much livelier (a jazz band when we were there) than we had ever imagined it from my previous afternoon visits, but they do clear the street so it's not particularly a problem.

Review 58:Charming hotel with friendly, helpful staff and a very picturesque location. Décor of the room is very pleasant and the bathroom fit-out of a high standard.

Review 59:Room was directly above the kitchen and we were awoken at 6.50 am with a blasting radio. Also there were people wandering around in the middle of the night looking for their room, basically a serious lack of sleep

Review 60:The room was quite small for a family. It was incredibly hot and the portable air conditioning unit was not particularly effective. Opening a window was not an option due to noise backing onto a main and very busy road. The WiFi was infuriatingly unreliable. The failure to top up the toiletries was disappointing.

Review 61:The location, most of the staff, the food and the general feel and ambience of the place.

Review 62:Weird checking in and out of hotel at the bar. The stairs are narrow, steep and shared with food waiters. It was a very hot weekend and some of the rooms were like saunas (with no possibility of opening windows at night due to busy road location) But mainly the meal services (dinner and breakfast) were shambolic. Staff had no system for ensuring that orders were taken and fulfilled efficiently, numerous orders/ requests were forgotten about, and no one person was responsible for our service. Food was very tasty but experience completely spoiled by the disorganisation

Review 63:No tea/coffee making facilities in room. My room had a very small window that you couldn't open, just had air conditioning unit. No lift which was an issue as I was travelling with an 85yr old friend, thankfully a fairly fit one!

Review 64:Lovely decor, good location for our needs as we wanted to be in The Pantiles. Excellent evening meal, lovely breakfast, plenty of choice. We were upgraded from single rooms to small doubles at no extra charge.

Review 65:Room 20 is so hot I couldn't sleep. I had the fan on full, all the windows wide open (all 3), and the radiators weren't on (I checked them all). It must be the old building and piping. It wasn't even very hot outside this summer. When I complained, some tween-like Shia Labeouf, said all they could do is not charge me the £1.50 for the extra bacon I had with my free breakfast. The room cost me £139 per night. What a joke of a place!

Review 66:Overall the hotel is nice with clean rooms and in a great location. Easy guest parking across the street also.

Review 67:No tea and coffee in the room. I had called to mention that both myself and my daughter were Gluten free. Assured on the phone this would not be a problem!!! Breakfast was a total disaster and spoilt the whole experience of our stay. There was no gluten free bread (had I known this then I would of supplied my own) so all the cooked options were 'on toast' so I didn't really fancy a plate of mushrooms!!!! We asked if the Granola was gluten free, we were told it only contained nuts! Which again is not correct, oats are present, we ordered this but the yoghurt was so sour I just couldn't finish it, nor my daughter. I refuse to have to pay more for the other breakfast, having already paid £116. The waiter for breakfast was probably the most miserable person I have every had serve me in all the hotels I have stayed at.

Review 68:Location, room and view.

Review 69:Loud music

Review 70:The hotel is a pretty and compact. The service was amazing and had live music aswell as Amazin food. Only downside was the thin walls when I was ready to go bed music was a challenge.

Review 71:Walls were very thin and the noisy family in the room next to us kept us awake most of the night.

Review 72:Staff were so helpful. We arrived much earlier than check in and needed somewhere to dress for the wedding we were attending. Staff were very accommodating and also offered to keep our bags until check in. When we returned (late) we were shown straight to our room and our bags were already in the room waiting for us.

Review 73:Wi-fi in the room was impossible to work with

Review 74:The quality of finishes in the room: cotton sheets, fluffy towels & good quality toiletries. Teas & coffees included throughout stay - unexpected bonus

Review 75:Lack of lift and flights of stairs a little challenging for older legs, but more than made up for in atmosphere and location

Review 76:All the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us

Review 77:I didn't get warning that there were a lot of stairs to bedrooms. Might have been a problem. Bedroom very small but ok for us as we were all family.

Review 78:Good choices on the continental breakfast menu, and very good ingredients. Great location

Review 79:Beds and sofa beds highly uncomfortable. Very dusty!!

Review 80:Friendly and nice atmosphere. The staff is young and helpful. The breakfast was very good and plenty of choices although a la carte.

Review 81:Very rude staff and very loud room - backed onto a major road so heard lorries from 5am and then also bad pipes so every shower or toilet we heard. Will never come again despite great location

Review 82:Good location

Review 83:Poor facilities. Had a king size bed but the bath was TINY! Approx 4 flights of stairs to the room and no tea or coffee facilities in the room - which were missed!

Review 84:Stunning interior design.

Review 85:Family from was good value for money. Spacious, including a fantastic bathroom with bath. Breakfast was very good, especially the it runs until 11amand we didn't have to rush.

Review 86:I would have liked more choice on the breakfast menu of things that are included in the room bill, for example full English breakfast or being able to have more than 1 thing included in the bill.

Review 87:The decor was pretty, the bathroom was lovely. The food was delicious and the staff delightful and helpful.

Review 88:seemingly no lift, which may be an issue for some guests

Review 89:Escorted to room - nice touch. Bed was comfortable Staff warm and friendly location excellent

Review 90:Bed had a strange lump in the matress... The bathroom shelf means you can't wash your face or brush your teeth properly?! And the food is a little overpriced although pretty good. Will definitely stay again though.

Review 91:A great hotel with excellent service and very nice rooms. One girl in particular was probably the best staff member I have come across in over 100 business trips. Polite, friendly and professional. I have also stayed in all of it's competitors throughout my years of travelling to t.wells and this surpasses them all! Stay here.

Review 92:Service was excellent. They could not do enough to help. On arrival, having booked a single room, I was immediately upgraded to a small double room as I was staying for 6 nights. My luggage was taken up to my room for me, which I am finding a rarity in "4 star" hotels now. When I ordered a taxi at the end of my star, a member of staff waited with me until the taxi arrived (taxi stops on busy main road at rear of hotel). Food was superb. I do not usually dine in hotels but the food was excellent so I dined there every evening during my stay. Especially recommend the monkfish! Breakfast was delicious, made entirely with local produce. It filled me up for most of the day. Decoratively, the hotel has been redesigned in a French fin de siècle style which works very well in this period building.

Review 93:The breakfast was a bit on the small side.

Review 94:The location of the hotel is outstanding and the rooms was charming, clean, and had a great view. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 95:The single room I had first (41) was on the tiny side - there was no night table or reading lamp. Also, the bathroom had no door... The room I then moved to was lovely (51). But I thought it could have been a bit warmer.

Review 96:Lovely atmosphere, super-friendly and helpful staff, absolutely delicious food (I had several dinners at the hotel too).

Review 97:A comment rather than a criticism, but the towel rails are extremely hot. Either they should be turned down slightly or a warning notice placed nearby

Review 98:Having known the "Old" Swan I was pleasantly surprised how much improved the new hotel is..... and it's cheaper than The Spa!!!!

Review 99:Lack of space and room layout. No refreshment making facilities in the room. Poor lighting in bedroom and lighting in bathroom not working.

Review 100:The good quality of bedding and towels. Great breakfast. Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 101:I did not like the way the way they charge for the breakfast menu .Far simpler to have an all in B and B rate rather than the complicated separate charge system they presently have in place .

Review 102:Overall atmospere was very homely and friendly .

Review 103:Food quality was excellent and we really enjoyed the entertainment Friday evening. Room was clean and comfortable and it's right next to a selection of bars and restaurants so you're spoilt for choice. Staff were all lovely too and the hotel generally has a relaxed, laid back feel to it. Lovely.

Review 104:lots of stairs - ok for us however you should be aware

Review 105:very comfortable bed, great room service tea / coffee / water as much as you like when you like

Review 106:Only booked as was advised of early check in -12 at the latest. When I arrived I was told I couldn't check in until 2:00, I had to change and be in Sevenoaks for a wedding by 2:00! Hair in shower Room too hot to sleep in Had to pay for parking as was unable to check in until midnight when I returned from the wedding Staff on check in we're rude

Review 107:Location was good Breakfast was nice Staff in the morning were friendly

Review 108:No reception - you had to call someone from the bar. Car parking and hotel facilities information should be included when you check in as there was no information in the bedroom. We found a tiny free car park in Market Street but you could only stay one hour. We then parked in Morrisons multi-storey and returned to the free car park after 6 pm. until 8 am. As we were only staying one night this did not matter. We would like a full English breakfast included in the price, not charged as an extra. More lighting in dark bedroom - could not read anything as it was so dim. Hot water came out of the cold water tap in the sink. There was a shelf right over the small sink so when you tried to wash your teeth you ended up spitting on the floor. We were unsure if the dining area was a public restaurant or was for the hotel, and there were no menus either.

Review 109:Young staff were very polite and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The dining area is very attractive and cosy in the evening. Central location in the old Pantiles. Bathroom very clean. Double bed very comfortable.

Review 110:Arrived on a jazz night which was right outside my window, windows are old single paned sash style which look gorgeous but did nothing for noise levels and I'm convinced mine didn't shut properly. I had been working at an event until 9pm and whilst the music was great I just wanted to chill out and watch TV in my room before bed. There was no chance of this as the music was so loud. I asked at the bar what time the music finished and they assured me it cut off at 10pm but that there would still be people outside although they try to keep noise levels to a minimum. I was offered a change of room but was told the other rooms had road noise so I said it was fine and ordered a glass of wine up to my room as I thought I may as well relax and try and enjoy the music. My glass of wine arrived with no receipt, nothing to sign and when I asked what I owed I the waiter replied 'nothing, nothing at all' There was some noise outside and I must have been asleep all of about 2 minutes when at around midnight I awoke to loud music from what sounded like inside the hotel and in the room next door. It was infact the Indian takeaway next door. I attempted to call reception to request to change rooms but the phone did not work so I had to go downstairs into the bar (there is no reception area) and attract the attention of the bar staff who appeared to be having a lock in. The guy who was in charge was incredibly helpful and polite and helped me to change rooms quickly putting me in a room which was tucked away on the third floor. In the morning I was awoken by someone trying to open the door to my room- don't cleaners normally knock?! I stay in hotels a lot on business and this was the worst night's sleep I've ever had!

Review 111:Location is great in the middle of the historic Pantiles Rooms spacious and bathrooms have lovely decor

Review 112:No WiFi.

Review 113:Staff was very friendly. Complimentary water was served in the guestroom. Location was pretty good, it was located within the Pantiles, the centre of Royal Tunbridge Wells. There were good restaurants around the hotel.

Review 114:There were no facilities in the room. Single beds in twin room were comfortable but narrow.

Review 115:The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was spotlessly clean.

Review 116:There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Review 117:We stayed the night of our wedding at the Tunbridge Wells Hotel, along with three other guests. The rooms were lovely and the location is great.

Review 118:Very loud, was woken up with a lot of noise, walls are too thin could hear television in next room and baby crying during the nite , other guest chatting!! Did complain in the morning but felt the man I spoke to was not interested !! Shame as the place is in such a good location. Would not stay again.

Review 119:Bed was comfy and location great. Lovely breakfast plus shower was good.

Review 120:Unfortunately hotel does not have a lift and there are a lot of stairs. However, management and staff make every effort to mitigate the problems arising from this and it should not deter prospective guests unless they have real difficulty with stairs. I'm 68 and my experience has not put me off staying there again.

Review 121:Hotel has really good atmosphere. It is a lovely old building, renovated with a stylish French theme. Staff are friendly and anxious to please. Single room was small but beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Menu was extensive and food was excellent. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Review 122:Group of people in the bar that were rather loud whilst we had our evening meal !

Review 123:The hotel decor - the room and it lovely plumbing. Warm atmosphere and welcoming and attentive staff. Walking out of the hotel after a great breakfast to hear jazz and blues on the bandstand opposite - lovely addition.

Review 124:Bathroom. I would prefer a modern walkin shower. Have to be careful not to slip while taking a shower. Nothing to hang on to!

Review 125:Great location. Great staff. Quiet.

Review 126:We had a problem with many flights of stairs. Older guests need to be aware there are no lifts. Although staff helped us with cases.

Review 127:Great position--.Parking O.K but a fair way to walk with cases.

Review 128:Firstly this is not a hotel as they postulate in their advertising title - it is an inn. You enter first on a bar setting and rooms are above. There is no reception, the bar is where you check in, and even there we waited a long while to be attended on. The 'Inn' doesn't communicate (and make no apology for this) it seems to booking agents that there is no on-site parking; it is 5 minutes walk away so check-in is somewhat inconvenient. If you have mobility issues I would definitely suggest avoiding this Inn - you have to walk from your vehicle to the hotel and cross a main road via a non-pedestrianised roundabout. As part of a wedding party this was precarious even for ladies in heels, never mind those people who's mobility may be hindered by age, rather than shoe choice. The staff at the hotel were unsympathetic to our problems locating parking and also knew nothing much about our booking - we had booked for 4 people and they took us to our double room stating the inconvenience to them in bringing the sofa bed out since we had three in our party. We quickly pointed out that we had booked for four, paid extra for that to be accommodated and had in fact phoned the day previous to re-confirm those details. The fact three were now attending should have been a bonus for them rather than a complaint in attitude on their part. In addition the blinds in the room were broken so we couldn't use the facilities (toilet and bath) without exposing ourselves to those travelling on the main road outside our bathroom window. I wonder when they check their rooms and why this was not rectified. On informing the staff the next morning of this problem with our room, it was noted on our receipt and swiftly added to a pile in the cash register. So - no apology, no idea in hotelier service. The breakfast looked good, but we couldn't bear staying a moment longer. I was pretty unimpressed with this establishment.

Review 129:The hotel was within a 10 minute drive from High Rocks which is where we were attending a wedding reception, and within walking distance from the main High Street where we indulged in a fabulous brunch. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast looked yummy. They were able to accommodate a booking for 4 adults in 1 room.

Review 130:I was given a room on the fifth floor with no lift and narrow stairs (period house). Climbing up and down each time was too much fitness.... No convenience or food stores around in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.

Review 131:Prime location in the heart of the city, parking available, places to have dinner and/or drinks a plenty, food at the hotel was very good but pricey.

Review 132:We chose this hotel because our dog could stay. The location was superb, staff helpful and friendly. Free parking. Decent breakfast. We shall definitely stay here again.

Review 133:The hotel is off of the main roads, but hard to get to with a car. The main road is also very busy at all times of day.

Review 134:The room was beautiful and the staff were great. They helped me carry all my bags up to my room and were very helpful.

Review 135:Restaurant service charge of 12,5% unreasanable. Charge is up to customer not to restaurant

Review 136:Excelent location, Recently refurbished Nice interior Good parking

Review 137:The only draw back is that the car park (free) is 50 metres away but not really a problem as you can unload closer by

Review 138:Everything really, comfort, staff, quality of food and service all very good

Review 139:Check in was a little poor and service of some other staff a little random. Had to ask for menus after being seated for 10 minutes or more.

Review 140:Great, friendly waitress. Very helpful.
