Reviews for Royal Lion Hotel
Review 1:Central location, superb view staff very friendly very comfortable bed! Everything you need in the room. tea making facilities in the room which is great after a night out !
Review 2:There was nothing I didn't like at this hotel.
Review 3:The staff, the location, the view, the conveniency, the lovely breakfast in the morning, the checking in process, the key being kept safe while you were out and overnight security made this a most welcoming three day stay at Tenby.
Review 4:Breakfast was so-so. Had to fetch butter from the chilled cabinet myself. Why not bring some butter with the toast? Sausage was obviously cheap mass-produced rubbish. Why not source good food locally and promote the fact?
Review 5:View out over Tenby harbour was amazing! Hotel could not be closer to De Valence (but interestingly wasn't on The Blues Festival "Where To Stay" list. Might be a hint there!).
Review 6:it suited our needs I was happy each to there own I would stay again thank you
Review 7:Location ,view , friendly staff could not do enough for us made us all very welcome .
Review 8:The front entrance and lobby area needs upgrading, but it didn't impact on our stay.
Review 9:Loved the location and the views. Our rooms were clean and comfortable and I would use the hotel again.
Review 10:Carpet in the bathroom..yuk!!! Cheap, poor quality sausages in the breakfast,
Review 11:Excellent location and welcoming staff. Parts of the building are in disrepair and it needs updating but the room was clean and comfortable and the bed also Comfortable.
Review 12:Room. Dirty. Furniture very old and in poor condition. Shower head wall fixing falling off the wall. Hall way out side the room no lighting, use light on phone to use steps . The lift is faulty. Well over priced at £90. Pity good location.
Review 13:Location
Review 14:Damaged ceiling, poor deco, rattling windows that had to have homemade wedges fitted. Damaged kettle lid. Room service was just a change of towels and not bed made or carpet hovered.
Review 15:View from room
Review 16:The reviews after i booked. Needs work doing on the hotel as they say. the mixed shower/bath tap was an an issue and needs to be sorted as in the reviews. I had the longest shower ever there trying to get the temperature to even shower. The floor boards creak, you know what upstairs are doing and walking about so do those below. It does need a refurb but would like to go back there but would hope the shower issue was sorted. My partner was cold and tried to use the blankets in a zipped cover, it did smell. I hope they can get things sorted. The bed had wheels on the legs :-)))
Review 17:The location and view, one of the best in Tenby. The breakfast was lovely. We hope to go back there again. The bedding was clean.
Review 18:The dirty carpets, broken shower, broken toilet seat, hot water from the cold tap and cold water from the hot tap, the dirty windows, the hair on the table. This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
Review 19:The location and the sea view.
Review 20:run down inside, needs major renovation. If nothing else renew the carpets in entry area. Cooked breakfast not nice. Then few place's claims for their full breakfasts stand up to the experience.
Review 21:lovely view, pleasant and clean room
Review 22:The hotel rooms were not well maintained and there was an acrid stench in the bathroom (possibly damp).
Review 23:The location was spot on for Ironman Wales and I can imagine it would be a great location for a family holiday with a very short walk to everything that Tenby has to offer
Review 24:Bed was uncomfortable, room needed hovering, hair in the plug hole of the bath
Review 25:Best thing about our stay was the view from our bedroom window tenby beach/harbour.
Review 26:Room had no veiw only a roof infested with pigeons, tv was from the 1990s and didn't work, the bathroom was very poor,
Review 27:Great location, friendly staff,
Review 28:My little boy is 8yrs old and loves being busy the owner was very grumpy didn't smile once not even when payd we felt very uncomfortable
Review 29:The only thing I liked was only a very short walk to the beach
Review 30:Apart from dust found in the bathroom behind the door nothing bad to report. Very good
Review 31:The room had a panoramic view of North Beach which was excellent! Great views of the harbour below. Nice airy room with comfortable bed.
Review 32:The bay window seemed a little unstyrdy with only single glazed panels which made it difficult to relax with a four year old on the third floor. Our shower was a mixer straight from the taps it was difficult to controll the temperature and had very little pressure to it. The single bed was missing a caster so I had to prop it with cardboard.
Review 33:The view and location was excellent, close to pubs and restaurants and a stones through from the beach the staff where friendly and helpfull.
Review 34:Hotel was very run down and smelly. Décor was very dated and bathroom was dirty. Room had view of a wall. Photo is not accurate - must have been taken a few years ago.Parking is non existent. Will not be returning.
Review 35:Close to harbour
Review 36:room wasnot cleaned properly had to tell reception an had to have them to hoover the whole room no tv remote and the tv size of a stamp view from the window of a concrete wall paid 220 pounds for 2 nights with a shocking view .would never ever go back.
Review 37:Nothing
Review 38:No parking facilities expensive in car park. Breakfast very poor. Beds not comfortable could feel springs. Rooms very tired. Would not recommend ,sorry.
Review 39:View of Tenby harbour very good . Clean bedding . Location.
Review 40:The hotel needs re-decorating.The manager was not very welcoming and the bar closed at 11.00pm even for guests. No parking facilities, had to park half a mile away.Expected better for the price and could probably get better wi-fi at the bottom of the pacific ocean.
Review 41:The size of the room and the view of the harbour.
Review 42:Cleanliness was good but building and fittings overall rather tired and in need of some refurb. However the overall feel is of quite attractive faded grandeur.
Review 43:Most amazing view of the harbour. The classic view of Tenby from massive windows.Absolutely beautiful. Easy access to safe swimming on north beach. Right in centre of Town.
Review 44:Lack of wi-fi ; awful mattresses , windows ready to fall in , hotel ready to subside further than the Leaning Tower Of Pisa ; pretty grubby carpets and windows filthy .
Review 45:It is possible to have a shower, but only just - it takes a great deal of care and fine adjustment to get a trickle of water at the right temperature, and if someone turns a tap on in Swansea it goes out of adjustment. In general the place needs some TLC: everything is a bit creaky and run-down.
Review 46:The location is great, with views out across the sea as far as the Gower. It's good value for money too.
Review 47:Shocking state to run a hotel the TV was from the 80s, the door lock falling off. The lift was just scary. The stairs were cracked and leaning would suggest they get a structural engineer in before it collapses. I could go on forever would avoid this hotel at all costs
Review 48:The barman Dan was great
Review 49:Wi fi would be better if not just in public areas. Hotel needs updating , old and dated . Cleanliness could have been better . Cobwebs and spiders in room . Had to park in nearby car park which charged £8 for 24 hours . Would have been costly if stay was longer than 2 nights on top of £250 for room stay . Breakfast was smaller on day of departure ??,
Review 50:Location perfect . Free breakfast . Nice staff .
Review 51:The hotel is dated and the bathroom/toilet is poor. (I hate carpeted toilets as I don't believe they can be hygienic). It's a bit run down and tatty.
Review 52:Clean & comfortable beds. Very Good breakfast. Excellent location looking directly out on the south beach.
Review 53:Hotel could do with a makeover our room the door had been kicked in at some point and there were gaps and was very shaky. Could have done with a good clean lots of dust and cobwebs. Overpriced for the quality of the hotel. The site we booked through made us believe that there was parking at the hotel this was not the case, had to walk about 10 minutes to the car park and also had to be there before 9am or we could have had a parking ticket.
Review 54:I liked the location, the staff were friendly and very helpful I left my mobile in my room and they mailed it back to me very quickly. Bed linen were spotless, and a good breakfast
Review 55:Hotel in need of redecoration. Shame its a stunning building, location and view amazing. Hotel very tired. Lots of cobwebs, very dusty. Cleaner moved our wet towels off heated towel rail to the bed. Result damp quilt and no dry towels to use that evening.
Review 56:Rooms were big. View from room was stunning. Could be amazing.
Review 57:This is a tired hotel and needs a lot of money spending in it. The beds are old and lumpy the shower mixer taps are inadequate and the whole place is in need of refurbishing For £100 a night it seems far too expensive
Review 58:Good location. Staff fine Wifi works -rooms are clean
Review 59:THE HOTEL NEEDS TO BE UPDATED.THE ROOM HAD RIPPED CURTAINS!! AND STAINED CARPETS.NEDS LOTS OF TLC. TV BRACKET HANGING OF WALL.
Review 60:THE LOCATION AND VIEW OF THE HOTEL.
Review 61:Hotel needs a a general update to bring it into this century! The guy who checked us in was very robotic and looked fed up! Lol
Review 62:Fantastic location. Lovely to find a cocktail lounge attached to the hotel. Really comfy big bed and room.
Review 63:It was an absolute disgrace. The whole hotel was disgusting, dirty and unkempt. Staff were unhelpful and surly. I have stayed in better youth hostels than this dump.
Review 64:This place makes 'Fawlty Towers' look amazing! A hotel with massive potential but appears grossly unloved. Staff ambivelent at best. Our room was not well serviced, with no evidence of a vacum cleaner having been used. The bathroom was decrepit. No car parking. The bar? Well that was mediocre at best.
Review 65:Our room whilst badly serviced did have a fabulous view of Carmarthen Bay and Tenby Harbour. The room also had a high ceiling which added to the feeling of space
Review 66:No water pressure to take showers. Entire hotel is in need of an update. Staff not very friendly or eager to assist when needing service.
Review 67:The View is excellent! Rooms were clean and serviced daily. Perfect location to walk the down town area and visit the beach.
Review 68:The place needs a professional spring clean . Paint areas ,clean windows and update lounge furniture and carpets.
Review 69:Views superb- this could be a lovely hotel with sharper management and attention to detail. Without it I can't see how it has a viable future as a business
Review 70:Cleanliness of the room appalling. Cobwebs everywhere bathroom carpet and room carpet stained. Jaccuzi not working tv not working. Did not put clothes in wardrobe as it was leaning forward. Stains on the bed runners. Wallpaper comeing off the walls.
Review 71:Tenby town and checking out.
Review 72:The hotel is very very dated, and in desperate need of major work. The dining area has been painted and decorated making it look nice, but the rest of the hotel ?????
Review 73:The location
Review 74:Value for money - No our room was on the 4th floor but the lift onlywent to the 3rd? It was tiny and the smell was absolutely terrible, thedecor was ok, very tired, but the bathroom was awful we had a cornerbath with a shower over it, not an electric shower or power shower butone that you had to mix the hot and cold together and took me 25 minutesto get right and then the pressure was pathetic there was no pressure Iwould have been better off in the bath, but the jacuzzi holes lookedblocked with what must only have been soap scum and dead skin fromprevious people, I won't be going back to this hotel again. Not thehotels fault but woken at 1am in the morning to a domestic going on inthe room opposite !!!!
Review 75:The location was perfect and the only person we spoke to really was thebarmaid/come front of house she was really friendly and chatting andthe breakfast was spot on when they eventually got us a table that wasclean - well nearly clean !!! The bedding was clean and fresh and sowere the towels
Review 76:The remote control for the tv was so embedded with hair it could not be removed! The tv did not work, nor did the wifi in the room. The hotel looks like it was last refurbished in the 80s. The building is leaning! One bed had large lumps in the mattress.
Review 77:Not much, fantastic location and the breakfast room was clean and had a lovely outlook. Breakfast was standard. Room mostly clean.
Review 78:Well the toilet was dirty and the furniture in the room was old it was a 3 star accommodation for a 5 star price
Review 79:The location was about the only thing I liked
Review 80:Seagul make a racket at 4am, will ensure the window is closed next time.
Review 81:Stayed for the long course weekend with wife and 10ur old son. Staff were very friendly, rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Great view of the sea.
Review 82:This hotel was completly over priced. The room was tired, wall paper pealing of the walls around wash basin in toilet. The toilet didn't flush properly, which was quite disgusting. The floor had an angle on it so when you were trying to sleep you gradually slipped down the bed and ended up on the floor. This Hotel should have been £150 for the weekend.
Review 83:Hard to say -probably location . Hot water was adequate.
Review 84:Everything - room was dirty, stuffy and falling apart. The jacuzzi in the bathroom didn't work and the shower was pathetic. The bathroom unit was dilapidated as was the bedroom units. Would prefer to sleep on the beach next time!!
Review 85:good location
Review 86:Although the bathroom was spotless and the shower worked ok, it was impossible to make the water flow through bath taps - we had to fill the bath using the shower head.
Review 87:The view from the window was fantastic and the bed was comfortable.
Review 88:The shower was almost impossible to select right temperature either too hot or freezing cold
Review 89:The hotel location was excellent. So close to the beach and beautiful views.
Review 90:The roof was leaking in the bar could do with some upgrades in places
Review 91:Room was very clean and had a lovely sea view staff were very helpful and enjoyed our stay
Review 92:Rude receptionist, when making a mistake on the booking form (putting in, in-correct date of debit card through Booking.com, was told off on the phone while driving to the hotel, which continued when we arrived which was uncalled for!!!) tired rooms and decor, very poor breakfast with mouldy toast!
Review 93:Great location with amazing views of the beach
Review 94:Lift was old creaking and stopped short of the floor, requiring a step to get out.lighting on the 3rd floor was awful, sensor lights did not turn on straight away and I stumbled a few times as I couldn't see the stairs as it was pitch black
Review 95:The view from our bedroom window was outstanding. First class
Review 96:Breakfast a bit small. First night was very cold. The night porter was huffing because he had to open the door for us ( when he wanted to watch something on his I pad/ laptop )
Review 97:Loved the view . Breakfast very nice . Location great . A member of staff left a bottle of Buck's Fizz in our room (as we'd got married the day before) which was a very nice thing to do.
Review 98:The decor of the room was very dated and the room was freezing cold.
Review 99:The views from the room we had was stunning looking out over the harbour and on toward Camarthen Bay
Review 100:FIRST I AINT A MOANER BUT No hot water so had to have a freezing cold shower was going to complain but staff are really unprofessional and miserable thought it may be a bad idea! really this place really needs help with they house keeping it really needs a good scrub I really am glad I'd taken a beach towel with me to dry cause the towel looked like it and poo stains on unfortunately I couldn't get in to another room in area but hey I slept in my clothes which I new was cleaner! Quick note if you do think about staying here £10 would be over priced per night seriously £80 I was totally ripped off a really bad place in a really nice area shame
Review 101:One thing only the view! if you clean the windows
Review 102:The price was rather high for basic accommodation
Review 103:Minute no seconds walk from seafront and the town Old and wonky very quirky I loved it! Breakfast was spot on! Big family room superb view
Review 104:The room was cold and not very clean. The hot water ran warm. The beds were not very comfy at all.
Review 105:The location was central however there was no parking. The view from our room was spectacular
Review 106:The rooms was nice but very dated there was ripped holes in the bed sheet covers n looked like the curtains had not been changed for yrs a bit of spruesing up and modernising and a areas for parking that is more affordable n it would b a great place to stay
Review 107:Breakfast was Lovley n staff friendly n location good for town
Review 108:Not very nice rooms. Bad locks on doors. Need nicer beddings and updating. Staff were quite grumpy in the restaurant. Also quite cold there. Not worth £80 a night by any means.
Review 109:Not much
Review 110:The general building it's self was worn out, in need of updating
Review 111:The views from our room were outstanding, the hotel was clean, and the breakfast was very nice.
Review 112:By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Shabby, dreary, depressing. Unhappy and unhelpful staff and very poor value for money. Go to the smart, new, less expensive Premier Inn around the corner instead.
Review 113:There is nothing at all to like about this hotel apart, possibly, from the view, not that you can see very much through the filthy windows.
Review 114:Lead to believe via booking.com that only 2 rooms remained available. In-fact the hotel only had 2 bookings for that evening. Hotel is large, dated and in need of refurbishment and in general was cold. One staff member was pleasant and ran the reception and the public bar but we asked nothing of him. We only stayed 40 min in the bar as it was cold. The bed was very poor woke with back and neck ache, the tv did not work. The breakfast was fair and served by a second staff member. We saw no one else before we checked out :-(
Review 115:View from window
Review 116:Bathroom in the room was not very clean especially the shower and the sink plug hole was full of what looked like mince beef!!! Quite a hard bed.
Review 117:Good location with fantastic views of the North Beach. Nice atmosphere in the pub below the hotel and a lovely hot Welsh breakfast.
Review 118:The room was really poorly decorated and in need of a total refurb. There were 2 drawers missing in the bedside cabinet. The red leather sofa was impossible to get out of , curtains were falling off the pole and the bathroom was so dated. Windows didn't open and the door barely closed.
Review 119:The view from the room was stunning.
Review 120:The car park was a 15 minute walk from the hotel, the shower was to hot to use it almost burned my skin and I couldn't turn it off, I called a member of staff he could not turn the shower off, he said don't worry about it. We left the room because we couldn't breathe with the steam and heat in the room.
Review 121:The view from the room was beautiful
Review 122:the hotel didnt quite look like the brochure. it was very run down and out of date, the ceilings were cracked and the visit to the toilet wasnt good the carpets and walls were very dirty was disappointed with the breakfast.
Review 123:we liked the location of the hotel and the bed was comfy.
Review 124:The staff weren't very friendly, the man that came when we were booking out did not say one word to us, how rude is that !!!
Review 125:We liked the view as it was looking over the sea but the windows were that dirty it was spoilt and the location was great.
Review 126:The hotel,is in serious need of refurbishment. One of the bedrooms had a leaking ceiling with water dripping onto the carpet. Ceiling was actually coming down in one room. Curtains were faded and had holes.
Review 127:The location was amazing and our bedrooms had spectacular views of the coastline and village
Review 128:Hotel clean but very shabby and has obviousely seen better days. Getting hot water to third floor a very long process!
Review 129:Got to be the best position in Tenby. Idyllic.
Review 130:The staff were scruffy and rude, the hotel was shabby, clearly no investment but keen to charge a lot. Far too complacent. Breakfast okay but don't go after 9.15 if you want to be made to feel welcome by the tall waitress with long hair - other one was lovely. Won't be returning.
Review 131:The view from the bedroom window
Review 132:Rickety, lumpy and uncomfortable beds Dreadful shower, dirty bath & toilet Generally very poor. TV was too small for size of room with poor reception. Lack of wifi
Review 133:Location Sea View
Review 134:Bed very uncomfortable, room was exremely dirty, view of brick wall out of window, damp patch on ceiling, bath didnt work, tv signal terrible unable to watch anything. Lift access only up to 3rd floor leaving 2 floors of stairs and winding corridors building felt unused very poor value for money
Review 135:Location.
Review 136:The whole interior is extremely tired and dated. It is defininitly the shabbiest place I have ever stayed in, nowhere near worth £200 for two nights B & B.
Review 137:The view from the room is amazing
Review 138:The shower was broken as had to hold the handle and flooded the whole bathroom resulting scolding myself turning it off. It needs updating and very old fashioned. Direction of rooms weren't clear along with sloping stairs which is unsafe.
Review 139:The view and location was ideal.
Review 140:Rooms carpets dirty, lift very jerky needs adjustment, no view from room just a concrete wall. would expect a sea view for £90 / night.
Review 141:Staff very oblidging.
Review 142:windows rattled and felt unsafe as window pains were broken and cracked in places. very out dated decor and furniture. Everywhere needed good clean even the kettle lid was dusty!!! gap under door you could drive a train through.(joke but it was a large gap!!!)
Review 143:breakfast and location views very nice.
Review 144:You could write your name on the surfaces BECAUSE OF THE DUST The sash windows had a gail blowing through the gaps.A cracked sink ,hole in bathroom light very tired and dated hotel dont be fooled by the photos on the net.needs a complete refurb .when checking out someone else checking out also complaining about finding dirty knickers in wardrobe and a shower that wouldnt turn off.
Review 145:the only good thing about hotel is the veiw and location.the veiw of north beach was amazing
Review 146:The sea view was wonderful. The bed was lovely and comfortable The staff were very pleasant and helpful The location was excellent The breakfast was good.
