Reviews for Smith And Western

Review 1:If you are looking for a traditional English experience this is not the place for you. Smith and Western is as advertised - western themed restaurant and hotel. There is some noise at night from the restaurant below but not enough to keep you awake. This hotel was great value for money.

Review 2:The room was large, clean and fully equipped with coffee machine. The hotel is located next door to Sainsbury but is ideally located to the Pantiles. The breakfast was fantastic.

Review 3:Hotel sits adjacent to a roundabout so front facing rooms may not be to the liking of everyone, although traffic is not too extreme.

Review 4:Novel themed hotel. Comfortable, lots of parking. Staff are great. Decent breakfast.

Review 5:Staff service could be a lot better, Not so young and more of them. We had to find staff members on a number of occasions to get service. No lift to get an old 90 year old to his room. Had to carry him up the stairs. The bannister was covered in large decorations which made it impossible to hold. You are leaving yourself wide open for a safety issue and subsequent claim, especially with an unprotected window on the bend of the stairs, which could result in a very bad accident. I did report this to your staff, there was a total lack of interest!

Review 6:Lovely rooms and nice atmosphere.

Review 7:The young members of staff seemed untrained when taking breakfast orders as they got it completely wrong not once but twice, but it was nice and we found it funny

Review 8:The theme and building, also the food

Review 9:Worth noting that when the restaurant is open you hear the background music in your room, if you plan to be in your room during the day this could be annoying.

Review 10:Staff were very friendly and polite. Breakfast was very generous. Slept well in a comfy bed.

Review 11:not bad but heated towel rail did not work and there was not suitcase stand or anywhere to put my clothing ( other than hanging type clothing)

Review 12:bit different breakfast is great

Review 13:Another client was checked into my room in error by a member of staff. As the hotel was full I could not check in on the first night of my two night stay. It seems the staff member did not bother to check the name on or reference of the booking. The other persons booking (it seems via booking.com) had been cancelled but the client not told - so a hotel mistake in checking them in, but a booking.com failure to inform the client their booking had not been confirmed

Review 14:The duty manager quickly sorted out the problem with my booking, booking me into another hotel for the first night (which I paid for) but not charging for the second night I stayed in the Smith and Western Room was very nice. Good coffee machine

Review 15:Could have been cleaner. Double bed is small. Breakfast not served early on Saturday morning. Had to leave at 8am but breakfast served at 9am. However they did make us a take away breakfast which was very kind of the staff!

Review 16:Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 17:Wicked place spotlessly clean well appointed rooms and the theme is carried through really well without becoming tacky. Staff all without exception friendly and efficient .

Review 18:Being locked out of the restaurant until breakfast opened at 9am - there wasn't really anywhere else to go

Review 19:Good room - great bathroom, and nice to have the Tassimo machine for tea and coffee. Also the breakfast was very good - as a restaurant you would expect it to be

Review 20:Friendly, attentive staff. Room in good order, clean and well maintained and quiet enough overnight. Breakfast tasty, presented quickly and overall very happy.

Review 21:Very slow service for breakfast; Had to wait 10minutes to get coffee, and 25min from arrival for my mixed grill, in almost empty dining room. I had to ask twice, explaining I was going to work. The response was that "we do start serving breakfast at 7.30am" Wouldn't stay here again. Sorry. 2. Had a glass of wine in bar, but had to return the glass, had lipstick on it.

Review 22:Well priced

Review 23:The hotel is right next to Sainsburys busy car park which is part of a retail park. If you were in one of the rear bedrooms you would suffer from car noise. We fortunately were in a front room facing a busy roundabout but, with good views.

Review 24:The whole Wild West atmosphere and decor. The Wild West theme continued right through to table lamps, lights, pictures and even the tissue box. Great!

Review 25:WiFi signal was strong but data transfer rate was unusable. Beer is sold in small sized vessels... pointless gimmick which leads to expensive drinks.

Review 26:A well presented establishment with an interesting theme!

Review 27:We were in the Sioux room and this seemed to struggle with the Wi-Fi connection

Review 28:The location was brilliant - right by the Pantiles, and the breakfast was very good

Review 29:Nothing really.

Review 30:It was the first time we had stayed in a themed hotel. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. Our room (Arapahoe) was very comfortable with a generously proportioned bathroom and a lovely bed. The breakfast was excellent but the dinner we had was, on my part, only ok. I think my wife fared better with her choice.

Review 31:Superfriendly and helpful staff - they enabled us to check-in early, brought us extra toast at breakfast, and were generally lovely. Loved the décor too! YEE HAW!!!

Review 32:We were impressed wit how helpful and efficient the staff were. We asked for our room to be ready on arrival as we were traveling to a wedding the same day, they said they would do our room first and stuck to their word, it was ready when we arrived so we could freshen up before the wedding after a long drive.

Review 33:The only complaint I have regarding our stay at The Smith & Western would be the indifference of the "duty manager" on the day of our departure -30.07.15. He was completely disinterested in us when we checked out of the hotel, he didn't even bother to ask if we had enjoyed our stay.

Review 34:The rest of the staff were wonderful - the "duty manager" on duty on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday was really caring & helpful, she was lovely. The two chambermaids were also really efficient , obliging & friendly.

Review 35:You have to accept the loud Country and Western music in the bar and restaurant area, but if you know it is coming you can't complain.

Review 36:Friendly and unfailingly pleasant staff. Lovely bedrooms and sparkling clean. Close to Town Centre. On site free parking.

Review 37:There was absolutely nothing to fault here!

Review 38:Everything- fabulous place. Staff could not do enough for you. Food was delicious and rooms very comfortable. Room even had a magnifying make up mirror- something very useful to me and shows a lot of thought gone into facilities.

Review 39:Goog location for sightseeing SE England. We accessed Dover and Hastings easily from here and also Windsor. The food in the restaurant was excellent as was the included breakfast.

Review 40:Absolutely nothing

Review 41:Absolutely everything. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The environment was superb, food was excellent and a fantastic breakfast served.

Review 42:Booking .com had not booked the room with the hotel and when we arrived the hotel knew nothing of our arrival ..... Luckily they had two spare rooms !

Review 43:I am tall and I have a problem with beds with footboards. I should have looked at the pictures of the rooms. Not a problem for most people. The wifi was very variable. Would be a problem for a business stay.

Review 44:The staff were very friendly, alert and eager to please. The room was well appointed and surprisingly quiet and the hotel was very close to the Pantiles and the heart of Tunbridge Wells.

Review 45:Unfortunate outlook over Sainsbury's car park but nothing that the hotel can do about that. At least the hotel is well situated for a big supermarket shop.

Review 46:I thought that the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I was impressed by the seriously Western theme and even though I am not really into country and western music it was fun background music.

Review 47:The continuous looped music especially at breakfast was too much. We understand the theme but didn't feel it was necessary first thing in the morning. Lack of space to sit and read or relax without music was none existent. This is really a fast food outlet with rooms off.

Review 48:The staff were very friendly and everything was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was superb and very filling. As an experience we enjoyed our 3 days stay.

Review 49:Just a warning for business travellers - unable to check out until 7.30 when breakfast is served.

Review 50:Warm welcome received on arrival - room comfortable and clean.

Review 51:Breakfast waiter wasn't very attentive. Hotel clock tower starts chiming at 8am on a Sunday.

Review 52:Great breakfast, smart rooms, good in room facilities

Review 53:Staff at check-in initially nice, male manager was friendly. Breakfast wasn't great especially the "couple" of mushrooms and cold tomatoe. Change over staff the next day were inexperienced, didn't know what they were doing, unproffesional quite sloppy. the female in charge of bar in the evening was a jobs worth. Burger and chips were especially rank.

Review 54:had a later check-out time

Review 55:Nothing disliked

Review 56:The fun of the theme, the friendliness of the staff who welcomed me as a solo traveller, the bosch tassimo & complimentary sweets etc in the room Felt valued

Review 57:Sadly the breakfast food was poor with undercooked eggs dry bacon cold mushrooms

Review 58:The room was modern and had the best shower ever. Staff were cheerful and helpful. The restaurant was a good experience and our waiter Danny made our evening

Review 59:Bar only open till 11 especially for residents and in a weekend would have been nice if open until at least midnight but that's our only criticism but staff on hand at all times

Review 60:Breakfast served until 12 midday which is great

Review 61:The cleaner sweeping and mopping the breakfast room floor,on two ocassions, in areas where diners were eating. We would have preferred a kettle rather than the modern beverage brewing machine which made a lousy cup of tea.

Review 62:The quirky western themed decor made us both smile and want to take pictures. A small fault, I believe, with the kitchen area ventilation triggered a fire alert and alarms sounded in all rooms and fire doors shut - an excellent response to the situation.

Review 63:Free wifi, as always, but now using a different provider, but it constantly logs out. Bit of a pain.

Review 64:It's always the first place on my list when i'm in town. Love the place, and as ever, Nicky and her team always smiling and friendly. Ticks all the boxes for me.

Review 65:Our stay was for 7 nights. Every day the restaurant was cold at breakfast time. We had to wear our jackets at the table. It wasn't early in the morning, we ate breakfast at 9am every day so no excuse about heating had to warm up!

Review 66:Room was nice size and comfortable with large shower and nice hot water. Room cleaner was lovely. Staff helpful and cheerful.

Review 67:No blind in the bathroom! Slightly further walk to town centre

Review 68:Lovely room, lots of character, friendly staff, comfy bed and helpful staff plus SWEETS biscuits and a posh coffee machine

Review 69:The accommodation and pub/restaurant is second to none. Great food and the breakfast choice is amazing! The staff are friendly and helpful and I would stay here again tomorrow. Brilliant!

Review 70:I'm not a fan of the country and western music. But I expected it, as the clue's in the title of the hotel!

Review 71:Very convenient location, short distance from mainline train station. Handy bus stop. Ideal for non driving visitors.

Review 72:Breakfast can't be taken in the room. The bar closes too early.

Review 73:Smart, comfortable accommodation. Excellent breakfast of some substance. A short walk into the town centre.

Review 74:Great staff, good food, above all the rooms are comfortable and probably the cleanest I,ve ever seen - full marks to the cleaning team and management.

Review 75:Nicky the manageress was so professional and Sarah was so friendly, the others although I don't know their names were all friendly and efficient..... A great team

Review 76:The pillows were very/too soft although the bed was extremely comfortable. Wifi very unreliable and very difficult to work in room when needed wifi to access network files.

Review 77:Only one gripe. The 'baked' potato option with many of the dinner mains, was steamed rather than baked. No flavour and a flabby skin. Could do better!

Review 78:Bed comfy, great shower, good coffee machine. Liked the green use of electricity. Good food, nice staff. Music volume perfect and certainly no unwanted noise once upstairs.

Review 79:Err, well the toilet roll holder fell off the wall?

Review 80:The whole western theme even down to the country music playing. I expected it to be tacky, but it wasn't, just good fun.

Review 81:Poor and slow service in restaurant, weird to have to check in at the bar, room is quite small and shower temperature was cold.

Review 82:Clean rooms, good wifi and TV channels, decent breakfast and included in the price

Review 83:Overall nothing much to dislike. Tried to give a tip to one of the female staff who had been brilliant and colleague shouted "that's for all of us you no".....not very professional

Review 84:Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. One particular female staff member was fantastic. She was outstanding whilst her colleague perhaps not as helpful. Excellent breakfast.

Review 85:WiFi continually dropping in and out on phone and laptop. Food a little pricey, compared to say a beefeater which is of a similar theme. Rancher Breakfast at £6.95 should have been fit for a cowboy, sadly fell a little short on volume, but I do have a big appetite.

Review 86:Staff very helpful Room very comfortable, Clean and facilities great. Food was great, little pricey but very nice.

Review 87:when checked out had to pay another £20 due to booking for one person only Obviously a mistake it seeminly on my behalf!!!!!

Review 88:The staff we friendly and very helpful room excellent breakfast very good

Review 89:All it needed was line dancing then it would have been complete

Review 90:Rooms brilliant, double shower, cowboy feel throughout, great food, the 20oz steak great as the wings and the massive 8 pint beer machine. God my head

Review 91:We were slightly concerned that music from the bar below might be a problem if the bar stayed open late, but they appeared to close promptly, all was quiet when we returned, and we had a good night's sleep!

Review 92:The room was vey pleasant and comfortable, the en-suite facilities, excellent. The breakfast was excellent, good choice, and the staff friendly and helpful.

Review 93:I didn't like having to walk through a dining area to get to reception. Waitress asking me if I wanted my change wasn't great. I could handle the noise of the C & W music coming on to my room but could others?

Review 94:This hotel was clean and in a reasonable location. The staff were friendly but did exactly what they needed to do without going that "extra mile"

Review 95:Excellent value for money. Quirky, good fun western-themed hotel and restaurant. Location excellent for access to town centre and the Pantiles. Staff friendly and attentive.

Review 96:Could not believe the bar and restraunt closed at 10pm on New Year's Eve the atmosphere was so good until then, could of had an amazing new year party.

Review 97:Loved the whole theme decor was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was very nice.

Review 98:The hotel bar and restaurant were locked up by 10pm when we returned on Sunday evening.

Review 99:Very comfortable and stylish room Excellent breakfast Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 100:I thought the theme looked a little cheesy, but the good reviews persuaded me to try the Smith and Western. The room was a little small, but well equipped and furnished. The location is good, just five minutes from the Pantiles. And breakfast was good, with a small buffet and good selection of hot meals

Review 101:The hotel is in a convenient location to the Pantiles Shopping Centre. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we had excellent meals. The decor is lovely and the rooms spacious. We enjoyed the cowboy theme.

Review 102:Nothing would definitely stay again

Review 103:Lovely room nicely presented to a high standard, clean and well equipped. Friendly helpful staff and located close town centre. Great menu choice for breakfast. The building itself had been the old station and had lots of character. Whilst the cowboy theme was fun the hotel did present a professional image. Plenty of on site parking

Review 104:Our only negative was the food was served warm but never Hot we never mentioned this to the staff as it was the only downside to our stay and not worth making a fuss over

Review 105:Staff very good always a smile and very willing to help room was spotless hygiene rated 5 we would stay here anytime and could recommend to anybody

Review 106:I couldn't find which wifi was the one for the hotel but I didn't ask

Review 107:I booked this as it looked amusing and I thought it would be cringeworthy. It was actually fantastic and the rooms were great, staff all very friendly and I really enjoyed staying here.

Review 108:Stayed here for our first anniversary. Was greeted by friendly staff who quickly checked us in (even though we were there before check-in time) Rooms were amazing quality. Food was excellent. All the staff were great. Cannot recommend enough

Review 109:Lack of fridge in room (would have been useful as needed to chill milk for baby) No facility to boil water as only tassimo coffee maker and no kettle

Review 110:Comfy bed Large clean character rooms Good food Helpful staff Fun place to stay

Review 111:nothing!

Review 112:my husband never stopped smiling whilst we were there! the cowboy theme just made it fun..we laughed a lot the rooms are lovely, the staff really friendly, the food portions are awesome! the saddle seats at the bar were a fab touch!

Review 113:Sainsburys was within spitting distance, and rather ruined the view, but hardly the hotel's fault.

Review 114:Very comfortable sleeping accommodation, tasty breakfast and helpful staff. Loved the décor, and the large bowl of popcorn! Made me smile.

Review 115:nothing about it - well-thought-out concept-hotel.

Review 116:Not one for 'theme' hotels, I was delighted at the care the owners and proprietors took to enhance our stay. I felt well-cared-for in every way - the breakfast was excellent! These folks earned their spurs!

Review 117:Steep inconvenient stairs to room. Taxi ordered for 7.00p.m. did not arrive. Suggest you remove that firm from your list of options. Silly, perpetual "cowboy" music (I didn't take breakfast as I couldn't face it that early in the day).

Review 118:Helpfulness and cheerfulness of staff. Convenient parking. Quiet, peaceful room.

Review 119:Could not find the ITV channel on the Freeview television but was not detrimental to our stay.

Review 120:The hotel accommodation was modern but in keeping with the hotel's theme, spacious and very clean. Breakfast choice was from the menu offered to non residents from which you could choose anything. My husband had a lovely steak for breakfast with eggs. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 121:Absolutely nothing. It was brilliant!

Review 122:From the time we arrived, we were knocked out by the design and decoration of the hotel, and also by the happy and positive attitude of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. It was beautifully clean, and just a sheer pleasure to be there.

Review 123:The meals in restaurant were not really to our taste, so we ate out. However, if you like burgers, ribs etc. then fine.

Review 124:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable with added extras you usually only get in a good hotel. Within walking distance to Pantiles. Easy parking. Good breakfast.

Review 125:the country & western theme provided a talking point and some fun but didn't distract the hotel from providing comfortable clean rooms with cheerful reception staff. Breakfast was generous and tasty and the C&W soundtrack provided an upbeat touch.

Review 126:Back of hotel and our room overlooked Sainsburys carpark and local drunken youths spent a lot of the night playing with unchained shopping trolleys and shouting and bawling keeping us awake. Not the fault of the hotel but still a problem

Review 127:Local to town centre On site parking Bed was comfortable.

Review 128:Staff were very friendly, good quality fittings in room, very clean. Liked the tassimo coffee machine with the costa coffee...nice touch. Cant fault it, would definitely stay again

Review 129:Once you went through the doors the old west came alive. Very authentic decour and lots of country and western music. The £18 full rack of ribs just fell off the bone, cooked to perfection. The half rack was nearly as big. Overall a nice and different venue from the norm, very enjoyable. (Yahoo)

Review 130:The 9 rooms are directly above the restaurant and bar which plays very loud Western music till around midnight. Then you have the party-goers heading back to their cars shouting and laughing loudly. Not a place to get a restful sleep. Gatwick planes fly by every 2 minutes until around 11pm then start again early in the morning. Restaurant is very popular with hen nights. At least 3 on the evening we were there. Rooms overlook a Sainsbury's carpark. Not very scenic.

Review 131:Room was tastefully decorated, bed was comfortable. Tassimo coffee machine was very nice to have. Free parking and easy walk to Pantiles and town.

Review 132:Nothing!

Review 133:Room was fantastic with lovely furniture and great attention to detail- loved the Cowboy Boot lamps in the rooms! Restaurant and food was also superb.

The Fine Print
