Reviews for Smaragdi
Review 1:Parking is not very close, but not too far. You have to carry your luggage aprox. 400m from the parking zone.
Review 2:Very helpful staff and it was very close to the city center - but it wasn't noisy. I can only recomend to go there!
Review 3:The pension is strategically located within the very centre of the Old Venetian District and is also quite close to the Old Harbour. Our room was tiny, colourful and simply furnished, and was kept tidy on a daily basis. Nikos and Georgia, the owners, have been both very nice, caring and kind to us.
Review 4:Basically, in terms if the rooms facilities you get what you pay for, anybody can do the math. Wifi is indeed free but really slow.
Review 5:Perfect location near the harbor in a no driving zone. Plenty of restaurants nearby, gift shops, etc. a couple of free parking lots within a 5 mins walk and the excellent Nea Hora beach is 15 mins walk away. Every Thursday there is street market with lots of fruit and vegetables from local producers.
Review 6:Probably we were a bit unlucky to have the only room on the ground floor, so there was some noise from the street from time to time. Still, I totally recommend the property!
Review 7:- The owner is extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. She took care of everything we needed - The hotel is centrally located on a very cute street - Our room was clean, nicely decorated and well-equipped
Review 8:Everything was ok.
Review 9:Outstanding location, on one side a few minutes walk to the centre of the old town with many restaurants and on the other side a short walk to the most popular beach in the town. Good wifi, very clean, great hospitality from the owner.
Review 10:bed is not so comfortable.
Review 11:great location at center. small hotel with all self catering items, even coffee and sugar was in the room. Owner allowed to leave luggages till the late evening after check out.
Review 12:Room 20 - everyone walks past the door on the stairs which woke me up! Noisy floorboards upstairs too. But I'm super-sensitive. Boyfriend oblivious! Not a big problem.
Review 13:Great location in the heart of the old town but near the car park so easy to drag our luggage up. Our host was amazing! Really kind and helpful calling taxis for us etc. Good WiFi connection despite comments here. Needs restarting from time to time but a good signal.
Review 14:Everything was nice. Maybe it was a little bit noisy in the morning because of tavernas and shops in the street (our balcony was over a street) but it isn't a hotel problem.
Review 15:Absolutely pleasant host (a wife and her husband), they give us a bootle of retsina as welcome gift. We had a room with a balcony and a huge bed. A room was clean. There was a cooking equipment in a room, very nice view from a balcony. Really cozy and absolutelly value for money. We stayed only for one night but still room was spacious enough and it was suitable to stay for a longer.
Review 16:No frills accommodation right in the centre of the old town. It was comfortable, clean and very close to lots of bars , restaurants and souvenir shops etc. Not for someone looking for luxury but perfectly adequate and a great price. The man who checked us in was very helpful and friendly.
Review 17:Internet connection a little temperamental during busy times - (but who wants to go on holiday and spend all day on the internet?)
Review 18:It's a sweet, bijou apartment which remains cool throughout the day - hardly needed to use the air con. There is also a back door opening onto a quaint and (mostly) quiet little backstreet where we sat occasionally, with a glass of wine, entertained by a huddle of playful kittens going about their business in the warm evening sun. Georgia was pleasant and discreet and always close-by whenever we needed advice. She recommended places to eat, shops and beaches - always with a smile on her face. She even printed off our boarding passes for us. Finally, when we arrived back in the UK, I discovered I'd lost a very valuable item somewhere on my travels. Georgia managed to locate it and has sent it over to me! It may not be high budget luxury but the apartment had all we needed and we were made to feel like VIPs the whole time we were there - and after! Thoroughly recommended!
Review 19:Internet was failing sometimes but it is ok if you just reboot the router in the hallway. Bathroom little small to what we are used to in Sweden but it seems like this is the standard size in Greece
Review 20:My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay. Location was great near beach, convenient stores or restaurants.. In a beautiful street. The staff was very helpful we had no trouble at all during out 4 nights stays.
Review 21:The wifi connection is not great and the hot water runs out fast.
Review 22:The location, the very helpful and polite owners it's a value for money hotel at one of the chania old town most beautiful streets with great tavernas and bars. Value for money.
Review 23:The owner was nice and welcoming, they also gave us a lot of advices on how to find the place and where to park. Everything was good and good value for money. Recommended.
Review 24:As in practically all of the places I have stayed in Greece the lack of strong wi fi signals and hot showers in the morning seems to plague me and this pension suffered the same short comings.
Review 25:The room I stayed in for 3 nights had a balcony overlooking the street so it was nice to sit there in the evening and enjoy a nightcap however it was also noisy for much of the evening as this part of town rarely sleeps.
Review 26:We had a wonderful time in Crete. Great hotel in a perfect location. Our stay was made even more fantastic because of the warmth and friendliness of our host, Georgia. We will definitely stay there again and would recommend it to other people.
Review 27:i)the bathroom could do with an upgrade ii) because it's old, the stairs & steps would be difficult for anyone with a mobility problem - but the low price probably reflects the above
Review 28:i)Georgia was very helpful and welcoming ii)it's very central iii) an authentically traditional apartment - our neighbours were two Cretan families and a family of cats, and we could sit outside the back door and relax
Review 29:Very helpful staff. Super location in the centre of the old venetian quarter but quiet at night. Excellent for the price. Clean nicely decorated. Would definitely stay again.

Review 39:Location excellent Friendly owner
Review 40:Location, Television Free airco Free wifi Hairdryer
Review 41:Very good location for old city tour on foot, shopping and parking. Frendly staf and clean room.
Review 42:Access by narrow staircase (but staff happy to help with luggage)
Review 43:Excellent location, comfortable room
Review 44:The shower did not work well. One can or burn the skin or freeze, plus, water pressure os very very very weak.
Review 45:Perfect place if someone wants to stay close to the town.
Review 46:Wi-Fi dosen't work all the time.But it's ok.
Review 47:The location of the hotel is perfect: in the near of both the old harbor and the old town. The Owner is so nice.
Review 48:+ very nice and helpful host + great very central location + clean + everything was working (aircon, TV, hot water in the shower...) +/- parking situation is difficult, since Smaragdi is located in a pedestrian area. You have to look for an empty parking spot close by and than walk a couple of meters. However no real problem: parking is free of charge and with patience you will find a spot.
Review 49:Faulty shower head was fixed promptly. Given price difficult to complain
Review 50:Amazing location among the beautiful narrow streets of old town Chania. Owners helpful, good communication and place very clean
Review 51:nothing
Review 52:fabulous location directly on a beautiful little street in the old Venetian Court also very quiet also a fair price and extremely friendly girl assistant
Review 53:Our booked room was not available and a tiny room was offered. The young woman who was managing the situation did give us a discount but it was v disappointing . If booking ask for a top floor street facing room 23
Review 54:Room 23 when we finally got it on our second night.
Review 55:Due to public holidays the room was cleaned only three times during my stay. The owners were very kind but were away during the weekend, so no possibility to talk to them about he WiFi which was not functioning properly.
Review 56:The room availed of a fridge, coffeemaker, a cooking plate and plates & cutlery. Pleasant room, nice balcony. Obviously there was some street noise, but in a quiet street - no problem. Location in the old town was excellent. Relation between price & quality OK - if you do not require luxury I can recommend Smaragdi.
Review 57:Stove/kitchen part of the studio room was practically useless - it was too small to cook anything on. Only enough hot water for one person to have a four minute shower.
Review 58:Location was fantastic. Owners (Georgia and Nick) were very lovely people. Internet took a little while to connect, but it was quite high speed Quite well priced
Review 59:The rental was geared to a summer letting and we found the beds very cold - only a thin mattress cover, a thin duvet and one blanket. The beds were a little hard. The second night, wore hoody and thick socks to bed and put the heating on with the air conditioning. The first night could hear a Greek couple talking till 4 am! (Fellow guests.)
Review 60:The location was excellent. The room had good facilities ie TV, internet, fridge, air-con, coffee, cups, cutlery and plates. towels and the staff very helpful re arrival and departure (contact by phone and email).
Review 61:Very hospitable family run small guesthouse in the very heart of old Chania, close to restaurants, shops and the harbour. Georgia, the hostess, was able to give excellent advice on the town.
Review 62:Friendly staff, very helpfull! Clean room with an extra (there was a corner with fridge, caffeemachine, cooker et cetera). Highly recommanded! The location was perfect. Near the old town, near parking, near restaurant, near the see.
Review 63:Very small and dark and the back entrance was onto a slightly grotty alley way. Very basic facilities.
Review 64:Location was excellent, right in the Old Town of Chania. Front entrance onto a lovely old street. The owner was very friendly. The room was cleaned daily.
Review 65:The room was gorgeous - big and beautifully decorated! More than we expected and in a great location in the old town and very close to the harbour. As we hate wasting, we also really appreciated the fact that leftover condiments, coffee, sugar, etc. that previous guests had left behind were not thrown out - it says a lot about the thoughtful owners.
Review 66:Nothing really.
Review 67:I liked a lot about this place. 1. The owner is very nice and helpful. She told us about all the nice restaurants, places; and we indeed tasted some of the best greek cuisine there. We also had a medical emergency and she drove us to the hospital and stayed there with us. I could not be more grateful. 2. The location is awesome. We are about 50 meters from the seashore and about 1/2 km from the beach. The hotel is on a small street with lots of local shops. Our room had a balcony and we can enjoyed the location fully. 3. The place was very cheap as compared to a regular hotel, but we get all the facilities which you would get elsewhere. 4. They also arrange for a taxi for us which was again much cheaper than a normal one.
Review 68:Georgie was very friendly. Smaragdi was so centrally located. We enjoyed our stay. Not so easy to find, but once you are there, you will see it is very easy.
Review 69:Shower didn't get hot no matter how long we turned the hot water tank on for. Beds not very comfy
Review 70:Location was great right in the heart of old town chania Close to markets restaurants and shops and the waterfront Helpful staff
Review 71:The water needs longer than 15mins to warm up but I guess this is the case in all old houses of the old town.
Review 72:The rooms are full of light providing the proper size for two people with a large double bed.It has an air-condition and a small TV. The little balcony of the blue room has view on the street (pedestrian lane with few cars passing in the morning).
Review 73:The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The location in Chania's Old City was amazing. The bathroom was very spacious and updated. An all-around terrific experience.
Review 74:Georgia was very helpful and friendly, could not fault in any way. The room was very quiet on 2nd floor, air conditioning worked and shower was very good.
Review 75:The location was really excellent, a nice alleyway near the venetian harbour. Good restaurants and small markets around. The friendliest staff we've ever met! The hotel has four small, but lovely and clean rooms in different color themes.
Review 76:There was a neighbor talking too loud and for hours every morning outside the entrance of the room.
Review 77:Giorgia is a very kind and helpful host!
Review 78:Very good position, strategic place to visit the lovely Chania.
