Reviews for Hotel Du Vin & Bistro Tunbridge Wells
Review 1:The room we had in the cottage was quite noisy - we were above the kitchens and there was a lot of heavy machinery that seemed to make a lot of noise throughout the night.
Review 2:Large room and very comfy bed
Review 3:The staff seemed very unattentive. No room service as they "didn't have a chef" until we complained about this. After hours room service very poor quality. We ordered drinks after hours and the porter didn't really know what he was doing. Bathroom in need of paint and a very good clean. Mould and dirt around sink, taps etc and paint peeling off radiator. Also no full length mirror in a suite seems very odd. Everything seemed to be a bit too much effort for the staff and it made us feel a little uneasy. Not quite the level of service expected of 4.5 stars.
Review 4:Wonderful upgrade. Beautiful room with a view!
Review 5:We could not find fault at all, our stay was lovely.
Review 6:Got a great price for the room. Excellent customer service, helpful staff. The room had the 'wow' factor, lovely big bathroom. Great location. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 7:Not so much a bad experience but we were disappointed with our "cottage" room. The carpet and décor were depressing (the bathroom was good). We would have preferred a room in the main building
Review 8:The restaurant for dinner and breakfast. The food was good for both our meals. We thought the dinner was expensive but we were happy with the breakfast
Review 9:Hairs in the bath and dusty Bistro, service was rather slow in the evening.
Review 10:Beautiful Bistro, where we savoured a handsome four course lunch, which for the record wasn't too heavy and fab value at a fixed price, fabulous bar and welcoming reception staff. Bedroom was lovely - and big with a high class bathroom. Brilliant as situated just off the middle of the high street!
Review 11:Needs a refurb. Lagging behind other HDV's (see Cheltenham for example). Shower pressure not great.
Review 12:Convenient for town. Room comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities. Bathroom nice. Good for area.
Review 13:Although there was no bar food facilities on the Sunday we were able to use the buffet. The upgrade offer appeared to work in our favour and we were upgraded to a superior room.
Review 14:The staff didn't help us with our bags coming through the door or with our pram, just sat and watched us struggle!
Review 15:The room was lovely and comfortable.
Review 16:My bed had a more than firm matress, the door of my room was oldy worldy, which meant that I was woken by every conversation outside it, and the staff let me to struggle with three pieces of luggage even though there were two of them at the desk and no other guests to attend to.
Review 17:The bathroom was very cool, spacious, and it had a rain shower head over the tub which was perfect to wake me up.
Review 18:minor hiccup in bar first thing in the evening, bar under strain due to many people coming in at once. staff couldn't cope . very slow
Review 19:staff very helpful , front desk excellent Food was terrific
Review 20:We booked for our wedding night. There was a mix up and the hotel called on the morning of our wedding to advise that our booking was the night prior. Very stressful and the hotel didn't resolve quickly. The error was not ours. I explained that I was leaving to get married in 20 minutes and get still took almost an hour to realise their error. When we got to the hotel on the night of our wedding having had an amazing wedding there was no hot water. The staff explained the boilers go off at 10pm. They said they would turn on. I ordered a hot sandwich. After 30 minutes I was advised there was no gas so had a very plain cold sandwich. I waited ages for the hot water and in the end went down to reception to get an answer. The staff ended up boiling water to pour into a bath. This solution was at 2am. We checked in at midnight. We understood that things go wrong but the time in which they were resolved was unacceptable. We did not pay for our stay. However you do only get one wedding night. Not impressed at all.
Review 21:The room was clean
Review 22:Our Superior Double - Cottage was a small room located on a busy, noisy street. The windows by the bed had thick curtains to block out the street lights but the window next to the tiny closet had no shades allowing a great deal of light into the room at night. I found it hard to sleep due. The bathroom was located down a steep flight of stairs, during the course of a nighttime trip the bathroom I slipped and strained my shoulder. We expected a cottage, not a tiny room inside an out building. For the nightly rate quoted we expected a larger room.
Review 23:Friendly helpful staff, very knowledgeable and professional. Allowed early check in which was appreciated as we'd just flown in from California. Bar & restaurant were excellent, food quality & service were wonderful.
Review 24:Our friends stayed at a wing of the hotel at the front and suffered from quite a bit of hotel noise. Not sure what caused it. The breakfast was disappointing for the offered price. All English breakfast without beans?
Review 25:At back side of the hotel it was very quiet with nice view over park. It was also conveniently close (walkin distance) to train station.
Review 26:Everything was fab.
Review 27:Lovely big room which was smart without being pretentious. Amazingly comfy bed and bathroom also big enough to relax in the bath while chatting to partner! All really clean. Autumnal ivy - picture perfect! Gorgeous features eg stairs inside the building.
Review 28:I just didn't feel it was worth the price. Our room was tiny, with barely any room to walk around the end of the bed. The bathroom was enormous though bizarrely! That said the food in the restaurant was excellent.
Review 29:Staff were friendly and very helpful indeed.
Review 30:Room was extremely noisy and I was awoken 3 times during the night as I could hear boiler/plumbing noises, as people on the higher floors would use the bathroom - Roger Groult room.
Review 31:Size of room, size of bed, facilities in the room - Roger Groult room. Very good food in both the bar and the bistro.
Review 32:Not enough available parking Wifi very intermittent Food and drinks good but expensive
Review 33:Room we were given had recently been updated. Large and very nice.
Review 34:A mirror on the top level and milk cartons for tea/coffee.
Review 35:Excellent room. Very clean and had everything one would wish for. Excellent WiFi connection.
Review 36:Poor value for money, couldn't get parked after paying £249.00 for 1 night with not even breakfast included! Had a meal in the restaurant which was very overpriced for the food we had, was not good quality, they did knock the price of my husband's steak off the bill as it was supposed to be Sirloin and was more like a bit of rump. Due to this reason we decided to go to a local café for our breakfast instead of paying £16.95 each! Would not recommend and would not re-visit have stayed much nicer places for much less. I never complain either or write reviews but had to on this occasion.
Review 37:The hotel was currently under refurbishment so we were surprised this was not mentioned. The room was quite small. The staff were helpful when approached but did not go out of their way to make us feel welcome. A pleasant stay but pricey for what you get.
Review 38:The location was ideal for shops and restaurants.
Review 39:The bedroom window faced the car park/street but had no sheer curtains so had to pull full blackout curtains when changing etc so very dark. Could do with at least a half height opaque window covering to allow light in and maintain privacy. Breakfast was very good but was overpriced.
Review 40:The bed was amazingly comfortable. The shower was great. The food at breakfast was lovely.
Review 41:No bad experience, just a bit disappointed in the size of the bedrooms this time compared to other times we have visited ... they seemed a bit small and I bruised my leg walking round the bed (Marquis de Carcaras) - and my friend's room was smaller (Rosemount).
Review 42:The location is perfect and parking, while it may be tight, usually available. Staff are ALWAYS welcoming and friendly and very helpful. Dinner was,as always, fabulous!
Review 43:The fact i had to leave :-(
Review 44:The staff were all very helpful and offered service with a smile. The room was really nice and i loved the bed, i slept like a baby
Review 45:Being charged for another persons meal on our bill. Price not inclusive of breakfast was very expensive
Review 46:Facilities and location Offered parking for myself due to having recent surgery on my leg.
Review 47:superior room very small could not pass the chair around bed - tv in wrong position - loo paper could not reach - toiletries not replemished each day - charged for water in fridge which was a empty bottle! Car sign removed during a wedding so difficult to park and staff had to move their car
Review 48:I appreciated the bath, but in my late 70's it was not easy to get out of the bath - a need for grab handles or such, otherwise nothing negative.
Review 49:I was very impressed with the hotel for location and provisions. The Staff were excellent, polite and approachable, nothing was too much for them.
Review 50:Bar & restaurant were overpriced & we went elsewhere for food & drinks. Place was a little shabby/run down.
Review 51:Convenient location, very friendly helpful staff
Review 52:Room was a little on the small side and made using the ironing facility awkward.
Review 53:The staff were superb, very attentive and helpful. The barman, Victor was particularly enthusiastic and made our experience very personable. Loved the cocktails.
Review 54:There were a number of issues that led to overall dissatisfaction and disappointment. Had to request a room move as the mattress was too large for the bed and rose up at the end -very uncomfortable and caused a sleepless night. There were staff service issues that are too numerous to list.
Review 55:The garden and terrace are great features in the warmer weather
Review 56:A little bit expensive but you pay for what you get
Review 57:What a wonderful hotel I don't think I have slept in a more comfortable bed in a hotel the food is to die for and the staff could not have been more helpful.
Review 58:I liked everything :-)
Review 59:This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The hotel itself is beautiful, rooms are very cosy and pretty and the staff was excellent! Rooms has equipment like Nespresso coffee maker, magazines, beautiful bathroom and all the vanity kits you need. We arrived with a dog and they even prepared a bowl and very comfy and soft bed for Betty in our room! This is the first time it ever happened to us while travelling with a dog. The dinner was delicious and breakfast as well with wide choice of cooked breakfast, cereals, fresh juices etc. I can't recommend this hotel enough and I would definitely come back again!
Review 60:Understaffed for breakfast. Wrong food delivered. No privacy blinds or voile curtains although room on front of hotel with people walking past and buildings opposite. Had to have full curtains drawn so room dark when getting ready. Light bulbs not working. Duvet on the small size for the bed. Small wardrobe. No drawers in the room and lack of space for clothes. One side of wardrobe taken up with safe, China for tea and fridge.
Review 61:The location. Spacious room. When breakfast came it was good. Buffet lunch on Sunday excellent. Staff friendly. Large bed.
Review 62:slow check in, ground floor cottage room had windows that did not open, constantly disturbed by moving chairs from above or adjacent, the restaurant had good service, the main course excellent but the starter was a prawn cocktail with cheap little shrimps done in a 'Little Chef' style, the pudding of strawberries was served with a bowl of white sugar!!, breakfast was over £10 but the 'museli' came in a packet, a really sunny day, nice gardens but no sun loungers :(
Review 63:style of building and decor
Review 64:Breakfast. It took a very long time in arriving and then the eggs where overcooked. And the lift was not working most of time, inconvenient since I had a 2nd floor room.
Review 65:Very efficient reception staff, nice view from the room
Review 66:Dangerous access to get in and out of shower, step up with no hold so someone could easily slip with wet feet. Floor in bedroom very squeaky to walk on.
Review 67:Staff very helpful, especially those on reception. Lovely garden at back to sit in.
Review 68:Rooms great and stayed here many times including a 6 week stay at one time however if you get a cottage room can be noisy from road etc also parking can be a problem but they will reserve albeit it at a cost. Had Sunday lunch...good value...but cold. But still my favourite venue in TW (for now)
Review 69:Location, Location....Rooms....
Review 70:Room was small, could just about squeeze pass the bed to the wardrobe, room expensive, did not include breakfast. Breakfast was far too expensive and not the best either. Not the best hotel Du Vin we've stayed in.
Review 71:Staff were friendly & helpful, beautiful reception rooms. Bathroom was big.
Review 72:-we stayed in the cottage, there was lots of noise from kitchen ? (people moving stuff) and a coolinginstallation (?) all night long -really small escargots at the bistro, no top qualitiy of food -parking
Review 73:comfort of the room; friendly hostess
Review 74:I had asked for a bottle of Prosecco in our room on arrival but was somewhat taken aback when I came to check out that I had been charged £38! A rather high price for an ordinary Prosecco!
Review 75:The location, the room and the friendly staff.
Review 76:Incredibly hot in room as couldn't turn off radiators! Noise from outside generators made it difficult to get to sleep - no breakfast included despite spending £200+
Review 77:The room was a lot smaller than expe ted. Also I had difficulty having a shower which was over the bath, recently having a hip replacement.
Review 78:Location views the hotel and grounds were gorgeous.
Review 79:After staying in many hotels, this hotel topped the lot, the staff were amazing and so helpful. The hotel was clean and very interesting, with a beautiful garden very well kept, the room was amazing and had everything you could possibly need, great
Review 80:The hotel is nice but rather over priced for the amenities that are on offer. The lift system is quaint but very old fashioned and needs an upgrade. The hotel could do with a spa and swimming pool
Review 81:Convenient location for theatre hall
Review 82:Wanted to charge me £10 to reserve a parking. Rang 'bistro' for room service food but no one answered. Gave up and tried half an our later when I got through. Long wait for staff to appear at the bar..
Review 83:Great location
Review 84:Great room, with fantastic bathroom - free standing bath and wet room style rain shower. We stayed in the annex to the main hotel, with a very short walk to the hotel for dinner and breakfast.
Review 85:Service at breakfast was bad: staff were sullen. Breakfast not included and ridiculously over priced.
Review 86:Bathroom in room was excellent Reception staff were lovely
Review 87:There are always a few little niggles where ever you go but these were minimal such as no lock on loo door and it kept opening when you are in there (Even after 30 years of marriage, there are some things that one likes to keep private!) Huge bed but badly designed with middle leg. We must have both stubbed our toes half a dozen times.
Review 88:Superlative sophisticated atmosphere, large room overlooking gardens, and friendly staff. It was my wife's birthday and they had a complimentary bottle of bubbly waiting for us in the room.
Review 89:This was by far the most expensive hotel my wife and I have ever stayed at (we have stayed in very many in the past 40 years). Frankly it was very ordinary. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable but very basic. Probably twice the price we would expect to pay in a comparable hotel elsewhere.
Review 90:Breakfast was excellent. Staff friendly.
Review 91:My only quibble with our stay was that breakfast was not included and in my view was overpriced.
Review 92:The hotel is a beautiful old building with lots of charm. It is just outside the center, which is what we were looking for because we were traveling with our dog. There is a beautiful park just behind the hotel where he could run.
Review 93:Quoted room price more in fact. Breakfast was extra with quoted price £6.95 became £13.95.
Review 94:Very expensive room but comfortable. Had no option for a cheaper room. Friendly service
Review 95:Large dining area is open to hall and stairs so smell of food makes you hungry all the time.
Review 96:Easy to walk to town centre. Very comfortable bed. Very Clean. Loved the coffee maker in the room.
Review 97:Actually found the bed to be a bit firm and didn't sleep too well
Review 98:The food and the staff were excellent. The building itself is very pleasant and well kept
Review 99:the beetroot and parsnip vegetarian meal was tastefull but very small, more like a starter!
Review 100:the room and location were great, staff helpfull and freindly.
Review 101:When I couldn't book a room the week before be aide they were too busy!
Review 102:Friendly helpful staff, cleanliness of hotel, good food, love the nespresso machine in the room! :-)
Review 103:Very noisy extraction fan above our room meant a poor nights sleep. Complained at front desk and got £50 reduction, which was good service recovery.
Review 104:Lovely hotel with great staff, excellent food and relaxed atmosphere. A quality hotel !
Review 105:The bed was really uncomfortable. When checking the mattress it was from 1997 - so almost 20 years old. Could do with some double glazing on the road side as was quite noisy.
Review 106:Really gorgeous decor, friendly & efficient staff, clean rooms and delicious breakfast!
Review 107:Pre approved card swipe on arrival, however upon checkout was asked for details again and balance had already been taken. Call made to our Bank to verify funds had been taken on arrival. New system caused a little confusion for reception but dealt with efficiently and note made to share this with colleagues.
Review 108:Huge room and attention to detail. Warm welcome from reception staff made to feel special. Food and cocktails were amazing. Great location.
Review 109:Excellent service, rooms were lovely, food was great. It's an easy walk into the town and next door to a nice park. Staff were really helpful. They went over and above by sorting out a last minute valentines dinner for us at a lovely local restaurant.
Review 110:The breakfast serving staff were surly - perhaps having a bad day??
Review 111:The front desk staff were welcoming and extremely helpful. The room I got was spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was abundant. The train station is a very short walk away (down a hill) which makes life for a traveller very easy.
Review 112:The lock to the bedroom doors is located too adjacent to handle thus you tend to trap your fingers. This occurred twice during my stay. Traveller has 2(l's)
Review 113:Staff were interested in their guests & appeared to make it their business to identify their names very quickly which was reassuring.
Review 114:The standard of food, both at dinner and breakfast, was excellent. The staff were friendly, and the place had an old world charm. We particularly liked the attention to detail such as the fresh milk provided in the room.
Review 115:Goods for sale in room is a bit tasteless
Review 116:The staff were so polite and friendly. The housekeeper even knocked to check that everything was ok with my room. Great facilities. Lovely restaurant.
Review 117:I was hoping for tip top service when paying so much, but the room was like an ice box, with no extra blankets supplied. The sash windows look pretty, but hold in no heat! After notifying reception in the morning and sending an email at a later date (with still no response), I feel left out of pocket and cheated of a good nights sleep!
Review 118:Lovely hotel, a little "well to do". The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. Good central location with parking (if you can get it)... They will charge you another £10 to secure a space!
Review 119:Food was v poor for the hotel rating, apparently it used to be good. Feels like they gave instructions to non-chefs. Bar gets crowded with non guests evenings & weekends.
Review 120:Great location, lovely building, excellent rooms, garden & bars.
Review 121:The bath room was fantastic wet room and a lovely bath which was down stairs. Breakfast value for money you could have a different one each day for a week.
Review 122:Lovely bath but too high for elderly to claim on and quite wobbly. Nice shower but has no rails or support for elderly as well. They forgotten to leave a tea spoon even there was a good selection of teas and coffee and fresh bottle of milk in the fridge. You can turn desk light on only together with the sealing light, which wasn't convenient for a couple. We found a newspaper on the door hook only when were leaving the room. When I mentioned this at check out I was told that I should ring the reception and ask for a spoon. Should I? All this little bits, but nothing serious. Overall that was a pleasant stay.
Review 123:The location is convenient, the bed, pillows and bedding were very comfortable. Coffee machine in the room amazed us.
Review 124:I am so overjoyed that this hotel was the one I picked for my partners suprises birthday treat! The biggest thing that we were so pleased about was the fact they catered for me- I sm a coeliac and come up against problems everywhere I go. They made it no problem and there was no fuss! Very relaxed and romantic stay away, thank you!
Review 125:The bar was closed and we didn't have any prior knowledge of this therefore the hotel lacked any atmosphere. They had a limited supply of spirits and were serving from a table in the hall! Not what you expect at almost £200 per night. A drink on the house would have been a nice touch. Wine was very expensive.
Review 126:The room was spacious and the bed comfy, we had a free standing bath which was a nice touch.
Review 127:Booking.com did not make it clear rooms In Cottage were not part of main hotel and were tiny. Did my own research and discovered this for myself.
Review 128:Professionalism of staff. Lovely room and fantastic terrace. Glad I did my own research as booking.com did not make it clear that rooms in the cottage were tiny.
Review 129:Have stayed many times before and room was smaller and more 'tired' looking than on previous visits.
Review 130:Service and quality consistently good. Great location for town centre.
Review 131:Despite the name the hotel serves vastly over-priced and decidedly mediocre wine. Food is also overpriced with additional charges for vegetables with a meal.
Review 132:Beautifully appointed building, helpful and courteous staff, at least on reception. Spacious room clean with air conditioning, an actual teapot and a fridge with actual milk, not uht rubbish. Bathroom was superb with bath and walk in shower.
Review 133:The lock on the door is too close to the handle and I bruised my hand on first use as did my husband a little later
Review 134:The huge bed and lovely linen The monsoon shower Coffee machine Proper glasses
Review 135:we booked a cottage, not what we expected, it was just another building with rooms that was inconvenient. the hall was narrow, the steps uneven and hard to get to with a large suitcase
Review 136:the location was within walking distance to all we wanted to do or see
Review 137:Restauraunt was a bit slow but can be forgiven as they were very full.
Review 138:Was given an upgrade! Lovely room overlooking the garden.Bistro food is excellent and good atmosphere. Staff are top notch.Decor lovely.
Review 139:The lighting in the room was so dim, we couldn't see to get ready (make-up, hair etc). My husband couldn't even see himself clearly in the full-length mirror! We were away without the children going to a party and this was very frustrating. We mentioned it to reception who brought up a very dim lamp which didn't help at all. For £200/night we expected more. The ceiling paint was flaking off and looked shabby. All together v disappointing. Not at all up to Brighton Hotel du vin standards.
Review 140:Great selection of wines at the bar.
