Reviews for Black Swan
Review 1:Nothing.
Review 2:Everything. The room was lovely. Well appointed, clean and comfy. The en-suite was well proportioned. We didn't have dinner but the bar and the beer were great. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. Can't recommend enough
Review 3:The twin room was on the small side.
Review 4:excellent food very popular with the locals, you may need to book for evening meal. Staff friendly and helpful. Fabulous coal fires made it very homely.
Review 5:Toilet and shower were a bit tight but shower itself was brilliant as was rest of the room. We stayed in room 6. Nothing we didn't like about our stay there though.
Review 6:Absolutely Wonderful Food, Staff, area.
Review 7:Nothing. A lovely place!
Review 8:Great accomodation and with fab, friendly staff. We also were unable to get to the Black Swan before 20:30, which was the latest check-in time. A quick email later, and we were notified that someone would be available to check us in until 23:00. Fantastic!
Review 9:the boss walked past and could not bother to speak
Review 10:Very good welcome very clean and tidy food was very good staff a young woman very good at her job which seemed to be everything.
Review 11:Took no notice of the note on the booking about reserving for dinner. This may be a problem with bookings website. It has happened before with other booking
Review 12:Location
Review 13:Would prefer a king size bed to a double. Noise from patrons standing outside and leaving the bar, but wouldn't put us off staying again. Wifi in bedrooms was quite poor, but ok in public rooms.
Review 14:Great value and fabulous food.
Review 15:Black Swan is located in a quiet place but with good accessibility to Penrith and other towns nearby (though you need to know how to get to Culgaith as there are no signs in the main road). The Room was comfortable and the full English breakfast is well worth.
Review 16:The man who I think was the owner or manager could have been a little more friendly - he didn't really engage in conversation.
Review 17:very cosy hotel friendly young staff food excellent breakfast a bit small but very good
Review 18:Nothing, everything was great.
Review 19:The friendliness of all staff and the service. The room was really clean and well presented. The food at Dinner and Breakfast was outstanding using local produce. We will definitely be staying here again.
Review 20:No WiFi in the bedroom and non existent in the dining room.
Review 21:We did our booking through Booking.com which indicated our room would be ready from 12.30 although we were told when we got there that this was wrong when we got there about 12.50, normally it is 2.00. Despite this a very capable young man invited us to have a drink and whilst we waited he arranged for our room to be fully prepared. By 1.20,we were in our room which was great. A bit of a squeeze for two in the bathroom but the room was clean, bathroom was well equipped and the bed very comfortable. Although we did not eat there other than having a very good breakfast we got the impression that the food was of a good standard which was supported by our local friends. Thought the staff were very professional and well trained. Despite our room (No 2 being above the main bar)we were not disturbed other than the alarm being set at midnight presumably when the bar was closed. Plenty of parking at front and rear. Easy to find in the village.
Review 22:bed room on the small side, shower room a little cramped.room over looked road could do with double glazzing.. a little overpriced ?
Review 23:food good, friendly and helpful staff..
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:Really nice pub/hotel. Amazing food and really friendly, polite staff. I will certainly be staying there again if I'm in the area! Really good breakfast too!
Review 26:They didn't have a twin available contacted me and said they wouldsort something out. Was put in b&b round the corner which was lovelybut it was not ensuite as paid for and was £2 dearer. This should havebeen told to us upfront whrn wr arrived and wasn'T.
Review 27:Lovely location, food we had for dinner was fantastic. The b&b westayed in round the corner was very clean and welcoming with afantastic breakfast. I appreciated that they did their best to notcancel the booking.
Review 28:Great service from the minute we walked in with friendly and helpful staff. Nice room with a bit of a view between the properties over the road. Lovely food which is beautifully presented.
Review 29:The breakfast waitress was not as attentive or as helpful as the other staff.
Review 30:Staff very informative and friendly, nothing too much trouble. Lunch was excellent. Would have stayed an extra night if the hotel had not been full.
Review 31:The Black Swan is close to Keswick and handy for those travelling to Keswick an excellent choice to break the journey. Comfort and great welcome are assured.
Review 32:I liked the relaxed atmosphere and clean, yet comfortable bar area, and dining area. The staff are friendly but also efficient and helpful. The open log fire a delight. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and quiet, although the bathroom was a bit cramped.
Review 33:Our dinner seemed rather indigestible though we had different menu items we both suffered. Poor kippers for breakfast - heated frozen packet ones.
Review 34:Lounge, spacious bedroom and bathroom, excellent location, parking outside.
Review 35:Smell! They had freshly painted the room so did give me a headache but am sure that will go, at least it shows they care about look of the place. Also they could light up the sign for parking at the back as we couldn't get parked at 8.30 as the pub was busy.
Review 36:Friendly and very welcoming. Room was decorated beautifully and very comfy bed.
Review 37:Staff most helpful, friendly and polite. Food was fantastic and beer of a high standard.Very good location for easy access to the surrounding towns and of course the Lakes.
Review 38:No shower in the bathroom (bath only). Booking stated 'Bath' but was hoping for an over bath shower.
Review 39:Great evening menu, wine list and breakfast. Really comfortable room, great finish
Review 40:Steps down from the bedroom to the toilet/shower room - one had to be very careful in the dark of the night!
Review 41:The building itself is beautifully maintained and decorated. We received a warm welcome. The bedroom was a little cramped but adequate for our needs. Food in the bar/restaurant was excellent. There is very limited choice of vegetarian food but the chef kindly made something 'special' to suit dietry requirements. We were very pleased indeed with the quality of service received. We would definitely return to this hotel. It is good value compared to many hotels nearer to the heart of the Lake District.
Review 42:The staff were kind and helpful, the decor pleasing and we were very comfortable. We were made to feel at home and thought that the food was of a high quality
Review 43:Nothing. It was as we expected and is excellent value for money. We would be happy to recommend to our friends.
Review 44:The friendly, welcoming atmosphere and the excellent food in the restaurant. Our room was very comfortable and very quiet.
Review 45:Thought everything was great and thouroughly our stay.
Review 46:The pub was sparklingly clean - a credit to all, especially the manager who made us very welcome as we walked through the door. Everywhere was warm and cosy and tastefully decorated and the food was excellent. Thank you.
Review 47:WE ONLY STAYED THE ONE NIGHT SO THIS MAY SEEM VERY PICKY. THE BATHROOM IN ROOM 6 WAS VERY SMALL. IF MY WIFE AND I WERE ON THE LARGE SIZE, WE WOULD HAVE HAD GREAT DIFFICULTY IN GETTING INTO THE SHOWER - THE OPENING WAS SMALL - BUT ONCE IN IT WAS LOVELY. ALSO THE TOILET WAS OF THE "SIDE SADDLE' VARIETY!. THESE WERE THE ONLY THINGS THAT WE DID NOT LIKE. THE THINGS WE LIKED HEAVILY OUTWEIGH THESE MINOR FAULTS.
Review 48:FOOD AND STAFF - BOTH EXCELLENT. WELL DONE.
Review 49:We had a twin and a double room; both the bath & shower rooms were quite small.
Review 50:The staff were all very helpful and they made us feel that we mattered to them. The food was excellent; we had an evening meal and breakfast. Both meals were delicious. We would fully recommend the food at the Black Swan. The rooms were comfortable and we all slept well.
Review 51:Nothing to dislike.
Review 52:Location was very good. Evening meals were excellant as was breakfast choice. Nice clean room. Staff were excellant and very pleasant.
Review 53:Considering the extent of the menu. there are few vegetarian choices ( two only ) and few fish choices. That said, the food is excellent and good value for money.
Review 54:The overall feel of the hotel is warm and friendly. It is tucked away off the main road but within easy access of the A66. This means the hotel is quiet and there is no traffic noise.
Review 55:Excellent pub food- simple menu, no fuss just good tasty meals. Nice selection of real ales. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, helpful staff. Made to feel very welcome.
Review 56:Food was rather bland and tasteless, and the dining room lacked ambience. In hindsight we would have been better eating in the bar.
Review 57:Convenient location and friendly staff.
Review 58:We returned our meal as it was not good in the slightest. The breakfast was very good, (although I was hungry by then),
Review 59:The location was good as was travelling from Suffolk to Glasgow. The room was comfy.
Review 60:The food was really good and the staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The shower was lovely and warm after a hard day of cycling!
Review 61:Nothing !!
Review 62:Service ,food, comfort and ambiance, all combined ,was of a standard that we had not encountered in our travels throughout mid/north west England. This was an example to many . May I congratulate the management ,staff and the Chef/Manager who together have created the most enjoyable stay we have had in years. Thank you all and good luck for the future. We are definitely coming back for a longer stay
Review 63:Whilst the bedroom was very small this was not a problem as it was very good value for money. The bed however was not good quality and as both my husband and I suffer with bad backs the night's sleep was uncomfortable. I would also recommend (as a public house designer!) that the large tub chairs are slowly replaced with less bulky and more up to date items as they take up so much room in a rather crowded area!!!
Review 64:Excellent staff and food was good and generous. Hotel was well furnished and there was a very nice bar and restaurant. Place was very clean and bathroom was good although we only had an electric shower. As a last minute booking we were pleased with our choice and our visitors from Australia were charmed with the place.
Review 65:Lovely ambiance and good food in a lovely location.
Review 66:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 67:As soon as we arrived it was lovely and welcoming. The whole trip was welcoming! We didn't want to leave.
Review 68:It was a one night stay over, however we would love to use it as a base to explore the area.
Review 69:The staff were very friendly and comfortable surroundings.
Review 70:Bedroom above entrance door and bar area which made it quite noisy rooms at back quieter
