Reviews for The Cedars Hotel, Loughborough
Review 1:ON COMING BACK FROM OUR NIGHT OUT WE WERE TOLD THE BAR WOULD BE OPEN FOR US BUT THE BAR PERSON LILLY WAS RUDE AND CLOSED THE BAR BLAMING US FOR AN INCIDENT THAT STOPPED A GUEST FROM SLEEPING EARLIER IN THE NIGHT WHILE WE WERE ALL OUT! NOT A GOOD WAY FOR OUR CHRISTMAS MEAL TO END.
Review 2:A VERY NICE BREAKFAST. AND A WARM & POLITE WELCOME ON ARIVAL.
Review 3:Decor very dated and wallpaper coming off walls old furniture which was ripped in main lounge bad tiling in bathroom asked for breakfast at 7 finally got it at 7.20 which left about 15 mins for us to eat it other than that staff were friendly and mostly helpful
Review 4:No bad experience. Needed to remind reception that a couple of light bulbs were missing. Should have been reported by the room cleaning staff.
Review 5:Quiet. No noise at night time.
Review 6:The locaction was ideal for my work which was the main reason for staying here. I found the staff very pleasant and helpful. On checking out I left something in my room, the following week it was returned to me on arrival, what more can I say.
Review 7:The room badly needed redecorating & repairs. Ensuite awful- Ceiling peeling paint & wallpaper & black mould. Large patch of wet on carpet in room adjoining ensuite, reported & told it would be dealt with tomorrow! Worst hotel we have stayed in !!!
Review 8:A decent evening meal & wine
Review 9:Breakfast starts at 8 and quite late for me.
Review 10:The single room was spacious. My dinner was plentiful and value for money. Staff were very welcoming. There was a party at the restaurant but not very loud to disrupt your sleep.
Review 11:Room was very very tired, holes in the wall where fixtures were. Thin walls could hear every word from the man next door on his phone.
Review 12:Staff were very nice. Food was good and breakfast very good, real sausages!
Review 13:Creaky floors No anti slip map in bath for shower No hand grip in bath Hairdryer cut out very quickly
Review 14:Central location Friendly atmosphere Clean & tidy
Review 15:Room tatty, no blind or the like at bathroom window, floor unsafe, my partner was ill in the night, duty reception on check out, not bothered!
Review 16:Nothing really !
Review 17:Walls very thin was woken up both nights by another residents snoring in the room above. Also breakfast very expensive but tesco cafe is 5 mins away.
Review 18:Staff very professional and helpful. Great facilities for the price and nice bar area.
Review 19:I wanted to leave this place earlier than I expected and hotel management gave me a full refund for two days. Really impressed by the service. Highly recommended place
Review 20:In bedroom: mildew/mould on walls, peeling wallpaper, smell of damp/mildew in the room (no. 33), funky smell in the bathroom (despite the basin etc looking clean), smell of egg from drain when shower first turned on, shower not draining. Paper floors... hearing LOUD noise (creeking floor, foot thuds, brushing teeth/clearing throat into sink) from room above from 4-6 am. This hotel made me sad, the see-through keyhole (unless key was in).
Review 21:The price. Bed was better quality than the last place I stayed for a similar price. lady at reception (owner?) was friendly and very helpful re best times to travel in the morning.
Review 22:The bed was really uncomfortable. The hairdryer broke after two minutes and so we were late for breakfast by one minute and only got toast for £8.00 each!
Review 23:Two of the staff were really helpful
Review 24:More waiting staff required at breakfast at busy times/weekends.
Review 25:Good quiet location with lots of parking. Very pleasant, welcoming and friendly staff. Not the Hilton Hotel, but very clean, homely and comfortable for a short stay.
Review 26:Having been unable to find the guest brochure in our room, I was taken aback when the receptionist forbade us to have breakfast in the dining room after 9 am on Monday morning, the day of our departure. Particularly when no mention was made of change in times the previous night when we collected the key to our room. We had to plead for food ( the chef was on site) as not even a cornflake was visible.
Review 27:Good location and comfortable beds
Review 28:Everything else decor was awful. The bed was lumpy and a could feel springs really needs burning. Breakfast service poor due to lack of staff still awaiting toast and the special was soggy and parts either over cooked or practically raw in other words rubbish
Review 29:staff we came across where polite.
Review 30:Unfortunately we were unable to find the hotel information brochure in our room until after the receptionist advised us that breakfast was over by 9am. Upon searching our room the black brochure was discovered on a low shelf in a dark corner of the room; this apparently is where housekeeping always put it. We pleaded for something to eat and took it into the garden as we were not permitted to use a table in the dining room. The tables in the lounge/bar area are suitable for snacks or eating with fingers, not a cooked breakfast. We then returned to our room in order to have a hot drink afterwards. We were advised to check details of the hotel services on our email; no mention there of meal times either. Their web-site and brochure need updating as evening meals are not available as described.
Review 31:Ideal situation for our visit to family; we have stayed there several times in the past.
Review 32:The interior structure could do with an update, there were some exposed cracks on the walls and creaking floors. Also, didn't appreciate the noise levels in the early hours of the morning and the thin walls didn't help.
Review 33:The staff were very friendly which always makes a huge difference to the overall service. The room was clean and comfortable, nothing flashy, but good value for money.
Review 34:little bit of a walk from town, but with it being just off the main road was still easy to find. The bar was a bit sparse but did not expect a great deal.
Review 35:peace and tranquility. All I could hear was the birds tweeting and not a single car to spoil the silence.
Review 36:There was a wedding reception under my room on the second night which was rather noisy. Letting me know in advance would have allowed me to return later, or ask for a quieter room.
Review 37:Nice atmosphere and good value for money.
Review 38:Terrible parking facilities, shortage of staffs,50mn wait to get breakfast only to be told they d ran out of sausage !!! Bedroom facing railway track and litterally within 2 meters of my window :-(
Review 39:Brilliant staffs
Review 40:Very very old fashioned. In desperate need of a make over. Carpets needed a jolly good Hoover. Bathroom looked like it had been recently done out but the shower was horrendous!
Review 41:Checking out!
Review 42:Bedrooms are comfortable and clean but perhaps in need of a lick of paint. Also the bathroom lacked shower shelving where can put shampoo etc but otherwise excellent for the price.
Review 43:Staff were very friendly and the made to order breakfast was excellent - much more preferable to precooked and sitting under a heat lamp for ages.
Review 44:On second there was an overly long delay waiting for breakfast, however, when delivered the food was excellent.
Review 45:Very helpful staff. Excellent parking. Good food.
Review 46:nothing
Review 47:Location was perfect for attending Americana International Festival. everything was perfect and we felt right at home from the moment we arrived.
Review 48:Our only small criticism was that it was impossible to have a shower as the converter knob kept jumping out so that we had a bath instead.
Review 49:The bedroom and en suite bathroom were clean and well equipped, and the double bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient and the breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice of both cooked and continental. The dinner was reasonably priced and both the Sea Bass and Venison Lasagne were absolutely delicious
Review 50:We had a problem with the water temperature in the shower. It was very hard to get the balance right between hot and cold although the bath water came out perfectly. Reported it to reception when we left and it will be attended to.
Review 51:The convenience of being close to Welbeck college. Good price for a double and twin room. Very nice English Breakfast. The Bar was available until late.
Review 52:There was a hole in the bathroom door where someone had tried to punch through it. Lino coming up in the downstairs toilet facilities. General feeling that it need a bit of TLC and updating. Everyone came down to breakfast at the same time and only 1 waitress taking the orders.
Review 53:Staff very friendly and a great location
Review 54:Bathroom...cracked floor tiles ...covered by two bath mats already on the floor! shower screen had no rubber on bottom so only thing holding it still was the bath plug strategically placed, once the plug moved....screen opened again and again and again. Shower water pressure low. Shaving light bulb gone, not replaced. Bedroom furniture seen better days.
Review 55:Staff great, friendy, polite, smart, helpfull. Food good, location great, gardens smart, good car park.
Review 56:Rooms & bathrooms could do with a touch up.
Review 57:Service was impeccable, food was great, location was perfect for what we wanted, cleanliness was fab. Bed was very comfortable. Would stay again.
Review 58:Excellent location for event venue. Plenty of off-road parking. Garden, quiet street, very comfortable bed. Bar and restaurant although we didn't try them.
Review 59:The blood, dirt, craved toilet seat, peeling wallpaper, the promise of the manager emailing or calling back to discuss this and obviously no contact from them! Smelt of smoke even though no smoking was in place.
Review 60:The exit
Review 61:Dinner not good - I had the "special" which had an especially nasty taste to the fish.
Review 62:Garden view from room. Breakfast: good choice of cereal & cheese/ham available in continental selection.
Review 63:Nothing - ticked all the boxes
Review 64:The staff were first class - even though the restaurant was not open Sunday night they offered to arrange for a take away to be delivered in for us. We were able to leave our car in their safe car park for four days while we joined a coach trip. Excellent
Review 65:The power of the shower was pathetic without exaggeration. The decor needs cleaned up/repaired in places like the bathroom.
Review 66:The staff where very helpful, room was comfortable and clean.
Review 67:Showers were a bit lackluster, unfortunately the water pressure is quite low so would probably recommend a bath.
Review 68:Staff were very friendly, breakfast was great.
Review 69:The hotel has been around for at least 50 years that I know of and its showing. It is in desperate need of a facelift and makeover
Review 70:It is good value for money....the rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Food is very nice and the staff are charming
Review 71:They had heating on (in May) somewhere which made my room feel like an oven, not a great nights sleep as a result
Review 72:Cheap room, good location for the wedding I attended
Review 73:The room we were put in was really outdated and nothing like what was advertised. The room was also extremely noisey, from both an extractor fan on the outside of the room and people walking down the corridor. The tv was positioned in a ridiculous place, so that it was almost impossible for two people to view it from the bed. Would not recommend or stay here again.
Review 74:breakfast a disaster, girl didn't have a clue really far too immature and needed help but short staff I suspect for the numbers until reception helped out.
Review 75:comfortable hotel, little dated but oldy worldy was nice, reception very friendly and helpful
Review 76:Bed Mattress not comfortable in one room First room given to us very poor.Plumbers in our room working when came back which is unacceptable
Review 77:Good Staff helpful
Review 78:Shower was a really bad. but got £45 I would have run around i in the rain. Think it was room 216?
Review 79:Spotless clean a good night sleep with no frills. But so cheap. Shoerr
Review 80:Staff were all friendly & helpful. The food was lovely & reasonably priced & having a garden & a lake nearby to take my guide dog was so handy. We're looking forward to going back soon.
Review 81:The hotel is a little dated and breakfast could have been slightly better.
Review 82:Allowed us to check in early and the chef came in early to suit our evening dining needs. The staff are flexible to make your stay fit your needs.
Review 83:The room and bathroom were badly in need of updating. Broken towel rail in the bathroom which hadn't been repaired.
Review 84:The staff were very helpful at all times
Review 85:the staff were very friendly ; the room was clean and comfortable ; location ideal for Donington Park BTCC Races; good value accomodation. nice bar and lounge
Review 86:The only thing for us was the shower. There was no pressure behind the water to create the shower unfortunately.
Review 87:The staff were very welcoming when we arrived and couldn't do more to ensure your comfort throughout your stay. The food in the restaurant was outstanding and couldn't of asked for anything more.
Review 88:bedroom needed abit of TLC, bathroom wall was heavily cracked and looked like it was going to cave in, corner of bath was very messy, chipped floor tiles.
Review 89:location
Review 90:Upgraded from single to double, freindly staff and really comfortable room. Free Wifi worked well enough to stream a film. Didn't eat there but overall really impressed and would go back
Review 91:The third room booked had very low shower water pressure. Breakfast is expensive at £8.
Review 92:Chose hotel as it is position near the Great Central Railway. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meals were very tasty. Rooms were very clean. The beds were very comfortable. We were a group of five people. We had three rooms booked. Two of the rooms had great shower pressure.
Review 93:The decor is tired
Review 94:The bed was comfortable, the room a decent size, it was quiet and convenient for central Loughborough and the food was very good, both at dinner and at breakfast; and it is good value
Review 95:The tiles in the bathroom was all broken i almost cut my foot, really old fashioned, the floor was dirty, the staff was moody the man at the desk didnt have a smile on his face he looked all grumpy, on too of the draw was filty and in the corners of the room,
Review 96:I liked the bar which was clean and relaxing, the bed was comfy the shower was hot and steamy. Free wifi and parking whic was good,
Review 97:Facilities are horrible, not clean and very noisy, you can hear other people next door snoring, walking on floor, and watching telly... It's slightly cheaper, but not worth the money at all, we should have spent extra £5 a night at places like Premier Inn or some better local hotels. Won't do that again, not in a million years.
Review 98:Nothing
Review 99:On one day I returned to find my room insecure. The following morning I had no hot water to my room and had to shower in cold water. Receptionist appeared not to appreciate problems. Was more inclined to tell me why she thought this had occured, rather that issue an apology.
Review 100:Good location.
Review 101:Room was shabby and bed uncomfortable. Room was cold but found out in the morning that the windows were both on the latch!
Review 102:Friendly staff and excellent value.
Review 103:Nothing to dislike
Review 104:The location was just where we wanted to be,it was very clean comfortable and the breakfast was great. No complaints we will be staying there again in November this year.
Review 105:Rooms (mine anyway) a little 'tired' could do with a refresh.
Review 106:Staff were all good, and the food particularly breakfast. Good value for a short stay.
Review 107:Paint peeling off radiators. Phone making a funny noise so had to disconnect it. Wake up call was 15 mins late. Light in hallway kept getting brighter then dimmer all night - shining in under the door. Thin walls - kept awake by guy next door snoring. 16 year old was almost too tall for twin room bed.
Review 108:24hr reception. Restaurant downstairs looked nice but didn't dine there. Ok if you're only looking for a bed to sleep in. Price - £35 for double room.
Review 109:Tired decor. Stained bathroom floor in room 35. Wi-fi did not work. Bath panel peeling. Bed base torn. Reading lights over bed not working. Not a great experience.
Review 110:Superb view of Great Central Railway from the garden.
Review 111:Limited menu and strange options Facilities dated Bed was extremely hard which meant we did not sleep well and came back exhausted - this was the main objection
Review 112:Staff friendly Room clean and tidy
Review 113:Old building very creeky flooring but that's what you get with character so only downside
Review 114:Staff very helpful and pleasant made to feel welcome as soon as walked through door will definitely be booking to go back thanks for lovely stay
Review 115:When I tried to order dinner no-one answered the phone so I gave up.
Review 116:They had a great menu so I was looking forward to dinner in my room which I was told would be possible between 8:15pm and 9pm.
Review 117:Nothing to dislike.
Review 118:Spotlessly clean room that was warm and comfortable. Very relaxing. Nice Bar and restaurant. Would use again without hesitation.
Review 119:Duvet was quite thin so got cold in the night when heating went off. Shower water pressure not very good and only luke warm water in the evening
Review 120:Very welcoming staff. Warm and welcoming when I arrived on a very cold day. Single room was a good size and so was the en suite. Quite location with very little noise from outside or inside the hotel. Fantastic value for money
Review 121:dated decor of the room, lack of toiletries in the bathroom
Review 122:very friendly staff, peace and quiet, central location, tea/coffee making facilities and hairdryer in room, provision of extra bedding
Review 123:TV control didn't seem to link with the TV although both were functioning.
Review 124:When I contacted the hotel beforehand about speific needs for the room, they were helpful and supportive. Hotel comfortable and clean.
Review 125:On our first evening we had to go into town to get an evening meal as there was only pizza available. Although there was a full menu available on the second night, which was excellent. Wish we had specified a room on the first floor as the floorboards were very creaky and we could hear every move in the room above.
Review 126:The hotel was easy to find in a quiet cul-de-sac. Adequate on-site parking. The receptionist was friendly and helpful with arranging taxis and information about the local area. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable if you like a firm matress. The breakfast was well cooked and good value.
Review 127:It was a bit noisy as the rooms are so close together and there is nothing to stop noise travelling, no insulation WiFi is free but goes on and off all the time, very frustrating :(
Review 128:Really friendly and helpful staff Good location Good Price
Review 129:Bit of a musty smell duvets need replacing a bit thin but blanket in room did te job !
Review 130:Lovely and clean Good price Nice comfy atmosphere in bar Nice staff
Review 131:The hotel it self is what you pay for is what you get. The decor and beds needs updating. There was ample parking.
Review 132:Staff were excellent. Welcoming and hospitable.
Review 133:Single room dark and dingy
Review 134:Staff v helpful and pleasant and went out of their way for us. Upgrade to double room which was nice and well -appointed (though shower took so long to get warm, ie 5 mins I thought it never would).
Review 135:They should have pointed out to me on arrival, that some one had been smoking in the Bedroom,as it gave of a unpleasant odour during my stay. also no real ale was available, even though the pump was displayed on advertising page.
Review 136:NICE LOCATION
Review 137:Twin room next to a shaft which was noisy and kept me awake also when either of us used the bathroom we were woken up by the noise of the bathroom light would not seat here again
Review 138:Location
Review 139:Decor tired needs updating shower on bath had to have both on at the same time room 23 bed not comfortable went for breakfast in the morning dishes left on the table from my meal the night before that tells you everything all in all very disappointed especially reading the reviews
Review 140:Not a lot
Review 141:Actually nothing, I am very pleased to say.
Review 142:Extremely friendly welcome service and excellent service by all Staff throughout our stay. The food, both dinner and breakfast was exceptional, with the offer from Management if there was nothing that met your fancy on the menu, Chef would strive to cook what you wanted.
