Reviews for Samaria Hotel

Review 1:My husband and I had booked a superior room. Although our stay was at the end of the season, we had booked early and so paid the higher rate. Our room had a settee which could be converted to a single bed. As our daughter was joining us the last night of our stay, management asked for 63 euro for her to share our room. We found this totally unreasonable as it reduced the quality of our accommodation and seemed a ridiculous price to pay for an extra breakfast. We eventually negotiated what I still considered an excessive price for a basic single room for our daughter.

Review 2:I liked the location and the staff who were always pleasant and helpful. I was particularly impressed by the hardworking housekeeper. Excellent choices for breakfast.

Review 3:Instructions on the air conditioning system and the phone not available in the room. One of the restaurant evening main dishes was of inferior quality. Pasta and salmon dish omitted smoked salmon and any herbs. Tasteless.

Review 4:Close to the old town, quiet location for the town, lovely room and hotel, helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely return.

Review 5:Staff helped us with car parking in the hotel's space in a very crowded part of town, They also advised us of local sites, travel and driving directions. Very friendly and accommodating

Review 6:Considerate helpful staff, especially a young doorman who helped me with luggage and with internet access willingly and with kindness. Excellent, wide ranging breakfast with little extras, like rice pudding with cinnamon or yogurt topped with figs in syrup!

Review 7:Nothing

Review 8:We stayed in Chania for 3 days - mainly to visit the beaches. We needed easy access to the bus station and Samaria is exactly what we needed. Staff were super nice and accommodating. Very clean and up-to-date facilities/room, very comfortable linens, towels, and bed. The room even had a balcony/terrace that we used for late night snacks and drinks. Less than 10 minute walk to the Venetian Harbour. Lots of restaurants around. Absolute perfect hotel for what you pay.

Review 9:Perfect hotel, friendly staff, great attention to detail such as nice smell, music, swimming pool, breakfast, rooms, car park, location, everything really.

Review 10:Excellent location only a block away from the old town, extremely professional and friendly staff, very good buffet breakfast, comfortable and modern rooms and good-sized bathrooms. Overall excellent value for money and a great place to stay; would recommend.

Review 11:Nothing!

Review 12:The friendliness of the staff. We have travelled extensively around the world and this is the most helpful and friendly service ever. Also the breakfasts were superb. cleanliness of the room was first class. I cannot fault this hotel.

Review 13:it is a pitty chania airport can not be reached during the winter months with a direct flight from european countries. otherwise we would have opted for bringing our family to spend the new year at this hotel!

Review 14:the rooms, the staff (front desk, waiting staff, housekeeping, bar, bell boy, managers...), the facilities, the high quality food.

Review 15:Everything. Beautiful amazing gem of a hotel. Staff was very courteous. Facilities were great. Rooms comfortable and clean. Breakfast was great. Will be coming back here again for sure.

Review 16:The bed was a bit uncomfortable, too soft. The gym was small although equipment was very good.

Review 17:Hotel stuff friendly and helpful, hotel looks fantastic, thought was put into the details. Excellent breakfast. Location is central and easy to get around. Easy to find free parking around the hotel.

Review 18:If your looking for a hotel on the beach- this is the wrong place. Else there is nothing negative to say.

Review 19:The hotel is perfectly situated in chania to stroll into Old Town or to set off to explore the region. The bus station is just behind the wall (public transport is very good) and the hotel also has a parking lot. Windows are very good, so it isn't too loud inside. The pool are is nicely done- you can spend the whole day there. Personal is extremely friendly and service is real good. All in all I'd definitely go there again

Review 20:Not applicable

Review 21:It was all perfrect: the location very central, the room very confortble, the breakfast very reach, the pool amazing (especially in the evening once back from the beach), the bar brilliant - with our very professional bar tender (Mr. George), and all the staff very friendly, helpfull and available (especially Miss Emanuela). It was already our second year in a raw in Chania, and if we'll come back again we'll definitly come to Samaria.

Review 22:The only unconfortable part is that there is a bus station in the backside which is a little bit noisy in the mornings despite the thickwindows. Otherwise I cannot find somehting else negative...

Review 23:Amazing hotel!!! Extra clean, very polite staff and literally in thecenter of town. Dont forget to book parking if you have a car. Theoarking is safe and you can enter whenever you want using your roomcard. Totally recommended!!!

Review 24:once more we were very satisfied with our brief stay there, appreciated room service after midnight as we arrived on a delayed flight from London. Everyone was so friendly too.

Review 25:Everything was excellent.

Review 26:Very comfortable hotel with a lovely swimming pool. Excellent breakfast with lots if choice. Very comfortable chairs and sofas in lobby. Great choice of books to browse.

Review 27:Amazing luxurious hotel with premium amenities in the perfect location. A two minute walk outside of Old Town Chania so you are not in the touristy bustle of that area. Fabulous breakfast.

Review 28:The excellent staff made us very welcome with a toddler and we were given lovely interconnecting rooms without even asking. The pool area is great for a city hotel and the breakfast selection is brilliant. Would stay here again!

Review 29:What wasn't there to like? The staff was ultra friendly, the food was the freshest I've ever tasted, and the ambience was superb. The hotel itself was spotless AT ALL TIMES.

Review 30:Little noisy from street and not the greatest views.

Review 31:Great location for town and for travel, bus stops and transfers. Very clean, nice people and smart inside.

Review 32:The is beautifully presented, modern and light. The staff are extremely helpful and they look happy! The food is very good and I think they have one of the best buffet breakfast I've seen. Looking forward to going back.

Review 33:Great location, situated in the center of Chania. Walking distance to the port (Amazing Restaurants and Beautiful Night Landscape). Great staff on duty anytime of the day, especially morning staff. There very helpful and knowledgeable.

Review 34:The beds are too soft and the wi-fi around the pool drops frequently.

Review 35:Amazing and friendly staff. Breakfast is one of the best buffets I've ever had at a hotel. Great central location with all amenities close by including the bus terminal for trips and airport.

Review 36:This is a small dislike, I had requestedrooms on the corner on floor 4 or above. Our two rooms were on the second floor. However were beautiful, particularly the corner room.

Review 37:The location was perfect and the rooms were very comfortable particularly the beds. The staff were all helpful, friendly and very polite. The pool area was lovely.

Review 38:Everything! Staff amazing location great and such a great room we were given. North American standard of hotel. The Greek staff so professional, friendly and always went out of their way for any of our requests. Would stay again and highly recommend.

Review 39:Room was located in the first floor, near the exterior Airco units, so it was a bit noisy to sleep with windows opened. We slept with Airco and windows closed instead.

Review 40:The breakfast buffet is excellent. Location is fine. Not good views, but within a convenient distance from Old Chania.

Review 41:The bed was a bit soft.

Review 42:The staff was so friendly and helpful with providing advice places to visit and restaurants. I love that they packed us food for us to collect at 6am prior boarding the tour bus to go to Samaria Gorge. Location was excellent as it was literally next to the bus station.

Review 43:The gym was pretty standard hotel set up, with enough equipment to have a decent workout, and it also appeared to be new. Only thing is it is in the basement and in the afternoon hours it got kind of hot.

Review 44:Great location close in the center of Chania, a few blocks from Old Town Clean and comfortable facilities, including nice pool. Hotel appears to have been recently renovated. Nice showers downstairs and also business center. Breakfast buffet (at no additional cost) included a large range of delicious local foods - I had the yogurt and fruit every morning! Friendly staff

Review 45:NOTHING!

Review 46:The breakfast was amazing, better than home prepared. The stuff is also amazing. Very professional, courteous, and ready to help. Thank you guys for an amazing vacation.

Review 47:There were no disinfectant wipes in the gym to clean the equipment after working out.

Review 48:Location...right next to the bus station and a 2 minute walk to Old Town. Very convenient

Review 49:The facilities are all excellent quality. The refurbishment has resulted in excellent soundproofing, top quality fittings and a really comfortable bed and pillows (at least two soft mattress toppers!). Attention to detail in all things. Excellent quality of breakfast with a wide variety of choice. Consistently friendly and helpful staff are most attentive. The pool is area is small with few loungers, but we always managed to find loungers free when we wanted. The pool itself is lovely, well maintained and of good size for a city hotel. The hotel is so good that we cancelled our last night elsewhere and returned for a final night at the Samaria before flying home. parking is well organised and the location is handy, with easy walking to the bustle of the old town.

Review 50:It is an extremely well run hotel and catered to our every need. Nothing was too much trouble. All staff were friendly and helpful. High standards of cleanliness throughout.

Review 51:I traveled 2 weeks in Crete and this hotel was clearly the best one where I stayed. Rooms are very comfortable, breakfast is spectacular, the pool is nice. Staff is extremely nice. In addition the hotel has a parking which is a big plus in this city.

Review 52:I liked everything!

Review 53:Absolutely every thing! The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The room was spacious and well furnished. The pool and surrounding area was really relaxing. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was fantastic! I have never seen such a wide range of beautifully prepared fresh products and dishes both hot and cold. This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in and shall return next year.

Review 54:We absolutely loved this hotel. The staff were amazing, everything is really well designed, and the buffet breakfast was excellent too. It's in a great location, Chania has lots of lovely restaurants and we had a great experience. The pool isn't huge but it's lovely. The pool area is quite small, which wasn't a problem at all but might be if more people had wanted to sit there. The library is also a really relaxing space, with an interesting range of books.

Review 55:Location is very good as its a couple minute walk to the old town and taxi/buses are a min walk also. Staff were all extremely helpful and polite from the checkin, restaurant, housekeeping and general staff. He bed was very comfortable and complimentary bottled water was wonderfull. I gove the hotel a 9/10

Review 56:Everything. This location was perfect for us. It was near the bus station and within walking distance to old town. The staff helped us so much. They kept our luggage when we went away on an over night trip and even set out a mini buffet for us when we left before breakfast. They also gave us a packed lunch for our long day. Amazing experience.

Review 57:Sunbeds were deck chairs with stools. Not ideal for tanning backs

Review 58:Staff very friendly Good breakfasts Great location - near old town and bus station for trip to beaches

Review 59:The hotel is beside a very busy street and bus station. Definitely request a room poolside, although with the balcony door closed there wasn't really any noise to speak of. The pool area isn't very large.

Review 60:The hotel was recently refurbished so the lobby and facilities were excellent. Breakfast was decent and the staff went the extra mile, especially the barman who made us custom cocktails that weren't on the menu with no hesitation. Beds were extremely comfortable.

Review 61:Sound proof is in fact semi sound proof

Review 62:We are very much impressed by the whole concept of the hotel. They strive for perfection in everything (staff, materials, food etc.). Which actually makes the staff proud and happy and so they love to serve their guests hand and feet...

Review 63:No issues.

Review 64:Everything. Couldn't ask for a more professional and helpful staff. Location, location, location. ... Highly recommended to anyone going to Chania.

Review 65:Our room smelt of cigarette smoke, but I think it was that some guests may have been smoking in their rooms and it came through the air con ducts. Not the hotels fault, plus in Greece, everyone smokes!

Review 66:The staff were super helpful, friendly and made us feel at home. Hey endeavoured to make sure it was a perfect holiday. My husband needed a Physio due to an injury and they went over and above to find him one and they did. Dimitri, the Physio, cured my husband in two days.

Review 67:The rooms are so big, soundproof, and the beds are very large and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was amazing with a huge choice of food. The staff were really lovely and very helpful. Position of the hotel is perfect next door to the bus station.

Review 68:There was nothing I did not like.

Review 69:Loved the proximity to everything and the very friendly and helpful staff. It's a great boutique hotel well situated close to shops restaurants and Old Town Chania.

Review 70:We were very pleased with our visit to Samaria Hotel and consider it an excellent place to stay. The overall level of facilities and quality of breakfast was very good. Mention must also be made of the staff who were most pleasant and helpful. . The location next to the bus station is ideal for anyone not thinking of hiring a car

Review 71:No complaints at all. Highly recommended.

Review 72:The hotel has some of the nicest, most helpful staff. It's well located in central Chania. The quality of the rooms and other facilities was very high, as was the cleanliness and presentation. Good value when we visited in May 2015.

Review 73:The hotel's location right next to the bus station makes it very convenient to get to from the airport and for travelling around. It's also just a short walk to the harbour area.

Review 74:Coffee was always 'just warm' regardless of when we had it. This could be improved on. When we stayed at the Hotel in the summer we were greeted with Raki and cake in our room. Arriving for Christmas we expected something similar to greet us but the Hotel made no attempt to add a little gift in the room for the guests.....which would have been a nice festive touch and the normal in any Hotels of this quality we have used at this time of year. Just a small point which they could perhaps improve on for future guests. The Hotel wasn't very busy therefore the cost would have been minimal.

Review 75:Very comfortable superior room. Luxury bathroom with 'rain'shower and towels changed a few times every day. Wifi was excellent with no problems. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices. We ate in the Hotel in the evening on several occasions and the food was very good and reasonably priced. Good soundproofing in room.

Review 76:I cannot think of anything I disliked about my stay at the Samaria.

Review 77:The staff were polite and helpful. The room was comfortable. I enjoyed the breakfast and the location was within walking distance to the harbor, shopping and restaurants. I liked the gated parking area.

Review 78:Nothing to report

Review 79:1) The hotel is a couple minutes away from the harbour area 2) Hotel staff were very friendly and attentive 3) Nice Breakfast I would very likely stay there again

Review 80:Very helpfull and friendly staff, excellent service and very tasty breakfast! Our superior room was excellent, very spacious and clean! Location is very convenient, walking distance to the centre of the old town - 10 minutes. We would definately return to the same hotel again!

Review 81:nothing.

Review 82:Very good hotel. Amazing shower AND bathtube. Very good hotel. The location is perfect. It is situated right besides the bus station, and few meters from the historical city.

Review 83:We had a late night flight cancelation out of CHQ and booked a room online from the airport before jumping in a taxi to the hotel. We arrived 20 minutes later just after midnight and the staff at reception were excellent. It took them minutes to get us into a room and with an upgrade. The rooms are very comfortable. We had a very good night rest after an extremely long day. Very good breakfast in the morning before heading back to the airport.

Review 84:The breakfast could be improved, it might be more local.

Review 85:Staff was very professional, helpful and nice. The room was very comfortable and nice bed with two pillows. The pool area was really nice. Excellent location, short walk to the harbor.

Review 86:Reasonable selection for breakfast but basically the same every day, could begin to get boring. Quite a small swimming pool and seating area I would think it would quickly get very overcrowded in high season. These are observation not really criticisms

Review 87:Quality hotel, attentive and friendly staff. 10 to 15 minutes gently stroll to the harbour area. Right next door to the bus station but there was no noise from it.

Review 88:It is on a busy corner, so having the window open is a problem. The standard rooms are a bit on the small side. The hotel is a business hotel and lacks a bit of character or style.

Review 89:It is newly refurbished and it has a nice pool and lobby. Breakfast is fairly good, the hotel is clean and the hotel is handy for the town and beach.

Review 90:The roads of the center of Chania is the best place to drive you mad when you try to find your way to the hotel. Our check-in could have been a bit nicer if the reception crew would smile and be more sentimental.

Review 91:very calm and home-like atmosphere. when we walked into the hotel it was like we entered a whole different, much better and more beautiful place then everything else outside the hotel. we were upgraded to a superior room just because it was our first time in the hotel :) our room was amazing!! a huge fantastic bed which was excellent for my back pain. we had also a nespresso machine in the room it was just perfect, and a huge tv screen with a great resolution. the bathroom is just wonderful!! a huge tub and amazing shampoos and soaps. also there are two sinks in the bathroom, so we could use the bathroom together in the morning. We loved how this boutique hotel was designed!! very comfortable and modern. the breakfast was tasty and satisfying. though we used it only once. we really enjoyed eating at the pool every evening. the bar-restaurant has a very very tasty menu. many thanks to mr. Angelo, who works in the restaurant and the room service. Angelo was extremely nice to us. one evening while we were eating dinner by the pool, a lady began to play love songs in the royal in the lobby of the hotel. it was really magnificent!!! if you wish to hike in the Samaria gorge i strongly recommend you to ask the reception for their guide. our guide (Caroline) was very nice and caring. the bus took us from the hotel and brought us back there too. the bus comes early (6 am) you don't get to eat the breakfast at the hotel but you get a nice lunch box at the reception desk. though it is a 4 star hotel, i enjoyed it much better than every 5 star hotel i have been to in Greece. we really enjoyed our staying in Samaria hotel and would recommend it to everyone who wants to travel to west cretes!! thanks a lot for this lovely experience :)

Review 92:Friendly and very informative staff when asked about local restaurants. Nice to have a pool. Aircon good, wifi connection very good. Good location for centre.

Review 93:Groups of young athletes at times jeopardized comfort and peace for guests poolside

Review 94:Great location On site parking Great pool Friendly and helpful staff Sumptuous breakfast

Review 95:- Hotel was easily located downtown - Room was very clean - Modernly furnished and decorated both in and outside the room - Clever storage in the room

Review 96:Extremely helpful receptionist staff who could all speak English. Air-con in rooms and swimming pool fantastic. Car parking facilities perfect. Sets a standard of what we would like on all our overseas visits.

Review 97:Nothing I'm well travelled trust my review you won't regret it

Review 98:We have a 22month old and the staff were unbelievable with her. I didn't expect the hotel to be this good from interior to staff to location, if I ever go back to Crete I'd only stay here

Review 99:Well, maybe the restaurant could have a little bigger and imaginative menu...

Review 100:A beautiful newly restored hotel with all you can wish for! Beautiful interior with green marble and modern but classic furnishing. Staff is awesome, friendly and helpful. Rooms are very nice, with good beds and fast WiFi. Wonderful pool with salt(?) water and a cozy setting with chairs and sofas. Even the gym is very good considering the size of the hotel.

Review 101:A pot of hot water and a selection of tea bags does not make a decent cup of tea!

Review 102:We arrived at 1am in the morning after a late flight. The staff were efficient and friendly. Our room was clean and pleasantly decorated. The bed was very comfortable, the wifi was faster than at home and the shower clean and modern. Breakfast was a buffet, which offered a good variety and was continually being replenished.

Review 103:The location of the hotel is very comfortable. It`s easy to reach the city center by walk in 7-9 mints and go anywhere by car avoid morning/evening traffic. The hotel offers great breakfasts. You can enjoy the breakfast inside the breakfast hall or sitting on the fresh air with the nice view to the swimming pool. The standard room big enough for 2 people with the a lot of luggage. The maid upon the first request brought extra hangers for the cupboard to conveniently hang your clothes. There is no mini bar in the room, but 2 bottles of the water free of charge were provided every day. The Wi-Fi connection was ok. The hotel have they own parking space to park the car and it`s cost 7 Eur per day, what is very good, because the parking on the main street is prohibited and on the street`s where it`s allowed it`s difficult to find the place. I`m strongly recommend this hotel and if I will back to Chania – I will stay in here.

Review 104:Location is not ideal but since we were traveling all day it didn't really matter. The rest was all truly amazing.

Review 105:Everything was just perfect. Great breakfast and a really good kitchen with awesome food. Rooms were big and comfortable. We just loved this hotel.

Review 106:I didn't like the delay in checking in when we arrived at about 7.30pm. I didn't like being made to move while they put umbrellas up by the pool while we were having breakfast. There was no need for the rush and it could have been done half an hour later. Also it was hard to get space by the pool. 2 families of 4 each made managed to bag every sunbed AND all the sofas which were in the shade which seemed to be taking the towels on the sunbed cliché to a whole new level!

Review 107:Liked the Location, the room size and the balcony. It was good to have a pool too.

Review 108:The breakfast buffet was good, adequate but the hot dishes were lukewarm if that. The staff removed used crockery from the tables very quickly, but getting tea and coffee did take some time to arrive. Female bar staff rude unless customers were male and American, which was a shame as is lovely bar in hotel.

Review 109:Location was very good, right next to the bus station, and 5 minutes from the bay. Staff very helpful as I had to change my room from front to back of hotel as it was too noisy at night, there was no problem.

Review 110:Parking was tight and aften over-full. Trying to get a staff member to give you a cup of coffee at breakfast was difficult. Staff at the bar/restaurant were practically non-responsive. I chase to wave them down for most every drink. Obviously they either don't care or were not trained to provided the minimum attentiveness to paying customers.

Review 111:Nice, quiet and clean rooms. Beds and pillows are nice too. Showers are very nice. Overall very clean and relatively new and high standard facility.

Review 112:Slightly felt like a business hotel which I wasn't prepared for as we were on holiday and not very smartly dressed! The view from our room was dreadful, an ugly flat dirty roof of a building opposite so wouldn't recommend 303 in that respect. The room was quiet though and well air conditioned.

Review 113:Very spacious rooms,i have 3 daughters and they were upgraded to a deluxe room which they really enjoyed. Pool small but tastful and the staff were very pleasant and accomodating. The breakfast buffet offered a large selection of hot and cold food and was very good.

Review 114:They have only sun Chair at pool, so not acceptable for holiday. Should be mentioned in specifications. Therefore I only stayed 6 days and books a resort instead off.

Review 115:The best little hotel we've been to in Greece.....not 4 but 5 star

Review 116:Location, service, parking.

Review 117:The room service close at 2300

Review 118:Every thing was good

Review 119:Was misled by hotel photo depicting sea view from hotel balcony. Balcony overlooked bus depot.

Review 120:Centrally located near the Old Town and the bus depot.
