Reviews for Gwesty'r Emlyn Hotel
Review 1:Stayed here while visiting family. My wife and I had an executive room which was large while my daughter and partner and their 5 month old baby had a suite -- this was very impressive. Meal in Restaurant was first class. Sfaff from the reception, bar and restaurant were excellent.and helpful. Will certainly stay here again
Review 2:Initial mix up over booking , made me anxious over whether a further payment was being taken off my card.
Review 3:The location was great and within close distance to other tourist attractions ie beaches. Really liked the spa facility
Review 4:Bed was uncomfortable and breakfast was terrible, couldn't eat it and four of us had to run to bathroom after eating it. Very poor.
Review 5:Liked the bathroom
Review 6:We found the bed was very hard as was the pillows and the quilt was also very thin. When going for an evening drink the staff were nowhere to be seen and have had to wait up to 15 minutes or more to be served.
Review 7:The staff seemed very friendly and pleasant! Room was very clean.
Review 8:Nothing to dislike.
Review 9:Very friendly staff, comfy spotless , bedroom . Great bars and restaurant, breakfast was very good , maybe a little more choice for evening meals.
Review 10:Very friendly and proactive staff. Understanding and accommodating. I enjoyed the variety of breakfast choices and the possibility to have a coffee and a chill out during the day..
Review 11:Hotel disallows customers to eat food bought out of the hotel in the room. Very minor point, no dinner after 9pm.
Review 12:The room was clean and lovely. Staff helpful and friendly. Quiet environment.
Review 13:Relaxing atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, spotless environment, pleasant room with a wonderful bed! Couldn't fault this hotel at all... Fabulous!
Review 14:single room beds narrow and hard. would only stay in double bed rooms in future.
Review 15:relaxed atmosphere. quality of food. Not keen on cutting meat in 'pasta bowls' should be flatter plates.
Review 16:The breakfast didn't start until 7:30 which is quite late and when it did arrive everything was cold. As it started late I didn't have time to send it back and ask for a warm cooked breakfast.
Review 17:It had parking
Review 18:I found all the staff to be courteous and understanding when I explained that I was attending my father's funeral. They were also attentive and had the time to talk to me and the other travellers in the hotel. I had learnt Welsh in school but have had no opportunity to use it while living in England and I was pleased to feel at home in the hotel amongst the native Welsh speakers. Even though I could not speak Welsh well, I could understand much that was going on. I must admit that I know the area very well as I was brought up only 7 miles away in a small village and I felt very relaxed in the hotel during the trying time of the funeral. I was able to talk to one or two of the staff who I found most pleasant in their attitude to me and to the other travellers. The building was very clean and time and money has been spent on its upkeep. I must admit that my father was the contracts manager in charge of the bedroom extension during the 1970s and his work has remained unsullied and I was proud to visit the hotel on those grounds. It was easy to book and to confirm that booking. I will certainly return when I have the opportunity. Diolch yn fawr iawn. Please note that I had no need to use the WiFi so I cannot comment on that.
Review 19:major problems with reservation arrangements at reception when booking in. Eventually resolved. Wife 'burnt' her hair on a hairdryer obviously designed for BBQ ing
Review 20:Nice 1st floor room but v creaky floorboards (look out below in Room 1) Efficient & friendly breakfast staff dispensing a restricted buffet type meal
Review 21:The room was very small on the top floor, it was hot and with the window open we heard the pub guests all night on the street and the street traffic.
Review 22:The staff were exceptional and very pleasant and made us very welcom
Review 23:the room was on top floor .it was very hot sticky room even with fan on .there was a noisey fan out side .so when you open the window that all you could here .
Review 24:Difficulty in operating the TV only to find it was switched off at the power point which was located high up on the wall behind the TV. Question why this occurred.
Review 25:Clean and modern bathrooms. Tasty meals with attentive service. Personalised service with luggage taken from the car to the room.
Review 26:Breakfast experience, waiting a long time to be served, then the food cold and orders incorrect. Being told by waitress that she would not take an order as the chief was busy
Review 27:Room well appointed, facilities good, reception staff helpful.
Review 28:Liked everything.
Review 29:Good food, clean rooms and spacious en suite. Friendly staff. Nice and clean around the outside of the hotel with plenty of parking. Croeso Cymreig ar ei orau.
Review 30:Nothing - other than why is it 3 star? It should be 4
Review 31:I have been to this hotel 3 times and I absolutely love it. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and if you want to relax in comfort- this is the place to stay
Review 32:First room extremely hot, replacement room freezing. Both beds hard. To turn on heat at night they must turn it on for the whole hotel. Very creaky floors, to be expected actually in an old hotel but not realized by me until too late. Suggest top floor? I gave it a low value for money due to lack of sleep, the most important value in a hotel.
Review 33:A lovely old place, excellent service, great location, excellent parking. Very clean. Nice common areas.
Review 34:The bathroom water tended to diminish at times.
Review 35:The friendliness of the staff, the facilities and location are excellent. The room we stayed in had a well and was fantastic. The bed was so comfortable too.
Review 36:Although we realise the major road works happening directly outside the hotel isn't their fault, it would have been nice to have been told prior the stay about it. When paying a premium price and get woken up at 6.30 on a Sunday and unable to enjoy the village on the Saturday, if we had known we probably would have stayed somewhere quieter.
Review 37:The cakes in particular were nice as was the room we ate them in. Accommodating towards our young baby and made the effort to talk to us.
Review 38:Every part of hotel immaculate, staff were correctly trained, restaurant and dinner was first class, secure clean parking area, looking forward to our next visit.
Review 39:The settings wer immaculate and really everything was first class andI'll definateky be returning as soon as possible ! In particular thereceptionist who was actually new was indeed exceptional ! Her name wasLyne !!! so no dislikes at all !!
Review 40:Everything was excellent and the Staff and welcome Second to none !
Review 41:The odd policy of not allowing guests to bring any food or drink into your room
Review 42:Lovely staff, nice location and excellent breakfast. Room was very good as well.
Review 43:Required an early breakfast before there normal 07.30 so 07.15 was said to be acceptable, should have informed the staff ? as that did not work.
Review 44:Excellent reception staff, excellent decor and facilities. Restaurant and menu very good.
Review 45:The staff were welcoming and informative. They escorted us to our room rather than pointing the way. The room was excellent with everything needed for one nights stay Hotel's location is fantastic allowing for a short walk to see the town. The breakfast was amazing especially the hash browns Staff were friendly in the bar and even put the scotland v France game on for us My grandparents used to live in Blaen-cil-lech and staying at the Emlyn hotel was a trip down memory lane made all the better by the friendly staff and excellent service. We would definitely come again
Review 46:Only issue was lack of mobile reception but that was not the hotel's fault and WIFI was available.
Review 47:Bedroom was clean and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was good and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 48:The only negarive is that our room (no.2) was above the conservatory and we could smell cigarette smoke which was coming through the bathroom window.
Review 49:We stayed in the executive double room, which was a large room. Immaculately presented with TV, tea, coffee and a botle of water. Separate seating area with TV and high quality bathroom. Separate from the main building. Although we did not eat at the restaurant, it's apparently in the 'Good food guide'. Booked this room last minute and price reduced by £50! Definitely go here again.
Review 50:Being woken by an alarm at 7 am on New Year's Day. But staff were helpful and apologetic and I am sure this was a one off fault that could occur anywhere.
Review 51:Dinner & breakfast excellent (home made marmalade a bonus) Room comfortable and spacious with everything one needed. Helpful staff. Great evening entertainment (New Year's Eve)
Review 52:Bedrooms overlooking main road could be noisy?
Review 53:Had to visit Wales on family business and was delighted by this hotel. We're told the hotel had been refurbished around 5 years ago but the whole fabrics and upkeep of the establishment made you feel the refurb had just been completed. Every member of staff we encountered were very obliging and flexible to meet our requirements. Food was good and wholesome. One to be highly recommended
Review 54:menu is limited only two of us left in restaurant and the chef managed to get one of the meals wrong chocolate sauce on the wine list menu is just two pieces of a4 stapled together not a lot of food options in Newcastle emlyn
Review 55:nice friendly staff rooms are nice brilliant indian in town
Review 56:Nothing.
Review 57:Loved the room,it was out in the courtyard, with its own front door.,and porch entrance. Bathroom was hugh, stand alone bath, and a large double shower, with power showers.everything you needed was in the bedroom. The breakfast was 1st class, cooked to order.staff really welcomed us. Would certainly return.

Review 59:Lovely welcoming staff. Clean and well equipped room with comfortable bed. Clean and modern bathroom. Good choice on breakfast menu. Excellent service in the hotel and restaurant.
Review 60:The food was good and the decor was v nice.
Review 61:There seemed to be lots if confusion over the booking and I was told that I had only booked 1 room. They offered a put up bed but then found the booking. The bill was also a bit confusing. We were brought the wrong drinks despite being asked twice. Quite nice staff but not completely on the ball.
Review 62:Room a bit on the dark side had to have lights on during day time and the lights were not very effective either, noise from upstairs room.
Review 63:Good decor, V comfortable, staff were lovely, Breakfast and the bar good, all the booking details went to plan no problems.
Review 64:Wine a bit pricey, we were in room 22 and it was near the car park. The shower failed on three occasions, there was only 1 cd which was played for the 2 nights and 2 breakfasts. We did bring the above to the attention of the reception desk during and as we left to date we have not had a response. So regrettably I have to post these comments. If they had emailed to say they would look into the above I would have not left my comments
Review 65:The evening meal, variety of choice, good quality and lots of it! Good breakfast, lots of main choices, home made preserves
Review 66:Some staff (particularly those serving breakfast) seemed to have no Welsh whatsoever - disappointing, considering this is rural West Wales.
Review 67:Most of the staff spoke Welsh. Staying here was an authentic Welsh experience Very good standard - room, food, service - throughout.
Review 68:Room 18 while well appointed does suffer from noise from the adjoin room's TV.
Review 69:Bar Manager was excellent - Ben has a real desire to deliver a first class stay.
