Reviews for Donington Manor Hotel

Review 1:Accommodation was expensive for the facilities offered and the quality of decor, carpets, and furnishings, in fact everything in the rooms very very poor!!!! It would be nice if the lights worked properly, or even if there were some light bulbs in the fittings, bed comfortable, linen tired too.I won't be staying there again, sorry for the staff they are superb.

Review 2:The staff and food were superb !!!

Review 3:We stayed overnight for a wedding, which was conducted perfectly. Can't thank the staff enough as they helped with everything, and catered for gluten free food.

Review 4:room was freezing. deduction made by staff of payment. cooked part of breakfast ok but fruit bowl was the size of an individual portion. I would not have paid the full price.

Review 5:Very Little

Review 6:Not a criticism just a comment - the rooms could do with a little 'boutique' treatment to match the nature of the hotel.

Review 7:Good food, good location, friendly staff

Review 8:Limited menu choice in the restaurant, as it was Italian evening and as I was staying with my teenage niece who couldn't find anything on the limited Italian menu she liked, so we had to eat elsewhere

Review 9:Clean and modern decor, friendly staff

Review 10:The property would benefit from some cash investment, noticed things like building damage, mostly cosmetic. The main hall/stair carpet ill fitting. Just the details that you remember, and just a shame because the building is beautiful.

Review 11:The period property details were very nice, with quality modern touches throughout. The bar snack were of high standard as was the breakfast

Review 12:The hotel rooms are very tired and old fashioned (not in the sense of period charm). The bathroom was extremely cold and the of the bed meant that there was a cold draught on your head all night. It appeared the only heat seemed to be in the communal areas. The TV had such an interference you couldnt watch it as it drowned out the sound and the thermostat valve on the radiator was loose so when you tried to turn it off, it was too hot to hold the loose base. In the morning, I complained and the faults were recorded in the maintenance book. Even without these issues, I did not accept the offer of another room as my experience was not a good one and I sought accommodation elsewhere in the area.

Review 13:Location to ameneties and size of room and bathroom. Staff were friendly and plenty of parking.

Review 14:The radiator in our room was broken so it was cold and smelt of damp. Woefully understaffed in the bar and restaurant so dinner took an hour to arrive. One main course arrived 15 mins before the other three, and they had to go back as the chips were undercooked. In the morning the chef wasn't there so only a cereal, yoghurts, toast, juice and tea/coffee available. No hot food or fresh bread and croissants. They took the meal off the bill in the morning as compensation but we won't stay there again despite its close proximity to our final destination of Donington Park.

Review 15:The staff were friendly and worked hard, the room was large and clean. Lovely bath towels and a comfortable bed. Very convenient for East Midlands airport and Donington Park but nice and quiet.

Review 16:Arrived at 1am with a very heavy luggage and the place didn't have a lift and the receptionist didn't offer any help while the stairs were right next to his desk. Also was a bit further from the airport than we thought it would be.

Review 17:Breakfast was delicious. Bed was really comfortable

Review 18:dirty, tatty, old, smelly old bedding, staff were clueless, place needs a total refurbish. Saturday there was a wedding, we asked for a coffee in the hotel lounge and were told, no as they were very busy and there were no staff and to go to our room and make our own !!!!! The room was outside courtyard room 27 and it was absolutely freezing. There was a heater left in our room only you could not leave it on overnight as it was so loud and noisy. I ended up in bed with nightdress, dressing gown, long cardigan and socks on. The sheets were clean but the quilt and flat pillows themselves were repulsive. They stank of greasy hair and stale sweat. I removed the linen and they were so old they were yellow. There was no valance on the bed bases and no mattress or pillow protectors. Definitely not recommending this hotel.

Review 19:location. Easy to find, lots of lovely shops bars and restaurants nearby.

Review 20:The decor is dated & tired. Outside is scruffy, with weeds and fag ends littered all around the reception entrance. Prices are too high for the level of quality. Could be a great place, but wouldn't go back as it is.

Review 21:Location is good. Very short walk into town to find shops, bars & food.

Review 22:room was tired and bad décor . Water marks on wallpaper, furniture marked. like stepping back in time. No bacon or sausages for breakfast, tea from flask

Review 23:nothing

Review 24:The Hotel is a very old building, but could benefit with a little of modernisation inside Breakfast area was a little cramped

Review 25:Lovely old building, plenty of character Staff were very helpful and pleasant Suite was nice with access to a garden area Breakfast was very nice

Review 26:We have stayed here before and always had an enjoyable stay, however this time was very disappointing, bed was so uncomfortable I still have a bad neck, when we returned back to the hotel in the early hours we asked the night porter if we could have some additional teabags for the room having used ours earlier and received a surly no and at breakfast we were ushered out of the main dining room to a room hidden at the back of the hotel and generally made to feel like we were an inconvienience to the guy working in there. Sorry but this time we couldn't wait to leave!!

Review 27:Staff at reception very welcoming and helpful booking us a taxi on arrival.

Review 28:Service in the bar was very poor during our stay we were kept waiting more than once. Breakfast service also poor. Ordered 2 full English breakfasts, after long wait ended up with 1 x bacon egg and tomato and a rack of toast (don't ask why because I don't know the answer)

Review 29:The location was good for our needs as we were going to Donington Park, also there were other facilities within easy walking distance.

Review 30:Carpets on stairs and landings well worn, twin light fittings only had one bulb in each - trying to save money?

Review 31:Very nice room, clean and comfortable. Good double glazing. Helpful staff. Good breakfast

Review 32:It took a bit before they actually found our roo (it was located outside, in the courtyard area) The room whiffed a bit and didn't feel particularly hospitable. We were told they had a restaurant but when we wanted to eat there, it wasn't actually open and there was no menu available.

Review 33:The staff was very friendly and helpful. Also, they were very kind in letting us pay less than we'd booked for as the room was actually cheaper.

Review 34:We're only given 1 towel each day for 2 of us. Also felt 4 stairs we had to use were too dark at night.

Review 35:Good value for money, big room, bed & bathroom

Review 36:N A.

Review 37:Greeting from reception on arrival, friendliness of staff and service . Nothing was to much trouble for any of them went out of the way to ensure enjoyment of stay.

Review 38:Very close to EM airport. Close to small town centre.Good size rooms, very clean, and with bath.More old fashioned/traditional hotel.Friendly staff.Super quick internet.Excellent breakfast and convenient parking.

Review 39:None

Review 40:The staff were great The food was excellent Breakfast excellent and the room was a real surprise more like a suite. After reading reviews I was a bit unsure about this venue Mainly the comment it needs updating. In my opinion It is the old style that gives it its charm

Review 41:Booked in to 'Moira' room. TV did not work. One bedside light did not work. Windows could not be opened Carpets in hallways worn and dirty. Quite poor value for money

Review 42:Staff were all very pleasant and friendly

Review 43:Room very basic with no glasses for water, extremely bad decor & shower. Carpet & wall paper hanging badly & no body wash or decent shampoo (2 little cheap sachets) & for a price of £120 for one night. Would have preferred to have stayed in a Travelodge or other accommodation. It is trying to make out it is something it is not & badly needs investment especially in the accommodation section. Why is there a big hole in the carpet as you initially go up the stairs? Sort the basics out at least. Speaking as a former Forte hotels manager.

Review 44:Breakfast

Review 45:Cleanliness could have been better , dust on the drawers and bedside tables

Review 46:Efficiency of the staff , friendliness towards our son and variety of breakfast was excellent

Review 47:No real problem, but my room (no2) had no means of switching off the light when in the bed. I had to switch the tele on to get from the switch by the door to the bed.

Review 48:Quiet room at the rear.No problem parking.Nice clean dining room.

Review 49:Stayed several years ago in the main building. However this time I had a room in the annex. Was just about ok re cleanliness, but looked as though it had not been decorated for many years and the carpets were badly worn, bed linen was old. Desperately needs a full refurb.

Review 50:Breakfast, although the service was mediocre

Review 51:Welcomed by Sinead who was an excellent ambassador for the hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely garden view. Sinead helped with any requests and always had a smile. The hotel is a wonderful old building with character and beautiful features. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was fine and clean although just a little tired and maybe in need of an update but, with a beautiful old property like the Donington Manor, the facelifts must be permanently ongoing. The breakfast was better than most five star hotels - abundant and delicious. Very happy with our stay.

Review 52:First room had squeeky and wobbly bed. We were moved. Second room broken toilet seat, non functioning bed lamps. Place is run down and could be much better with some effort.

Review 53:Staff great. Young lady on duty was particularly helpful - nothing too much trouble

Review 54:Great value. We stayed one night ahead of a morning flight from East Midlands Airport. The bus to the airport left just outside the hotel and took 10 minutes, so the location couldn't have been better. Castle Donnington is a fairly attractive village of cottages but there was a good choice of restaurants. The hotel was comfortable and clean if a little worn in places. The staff were helpful and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 55:several handles missing off drawers. only 6 channels on tv, website say satellite programs. room not boutique even though website promotes itself being boutique. cheap sausages at breaksfast

Review 56:very clean, the scottish reception lady was amazingly friendly

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:Very welcoming, made to feel at home. Had breakfast delivered to our room even though we had to leave by 5.30am. Highly recommended, will use again!

Review 59:1.We, nor staff could access room. After some difficulty and quite a while we achieved access. Not what one wants nor expects at the end of a busy day!! 2 5.Lights not working in room!! 3.Light bulb in lobby not working, bulb replaced after the passing of one hour! 4. No hot water in room!! 5. Had to change room.Again not what one wants or expects at the end of a busy day!! 6.Had to wait 12 minutes at reception to sort out problems due to lack of resource. 7.Never again. 8 We have never ever had an experience elsewhere such as we encountered here and we use many hotels both here and abroad each year.

Review 60:Location and breakfast

Review 61:In the bedroom was a plug in air freshener with no bottles of freshener !!! In the bathroom 1 of the sink taps was very loose, when I asked if I could open the sliding door window I was told the previous guest had taken the key, fair comment but surely there should be more than 1 key.

Review 62:When we arrived the young lady who checked us in was very helpful nothing was too much trouble.

Review 63:It would be nice to have more toiletries eg..more than 1 shampoo especially if more than 1 person is staying.

Review 64:The room was beautiful, especially having a patio door onto a private courtyard. Breakfast was delicious

Review 65:Broken loo seat - was temporarily repaired but broke again - generally decor and fittings need updating. Stingy with toiletries - only given 1 shampoo , 1 shower gel - had to ask for more. One hand towel, one bath towel - so had to ask for more towels too !

Review 66:Nice spacious bedroom, nice bar meal. Perfect location to Donington race track

Review 67:If the owner is reading this, one side of the double mattress, room 5 if I remember correctly, has had it!

Review 68:The food was very good and the staff were polite and helpful. The room was clean and quiet.

Review 69:the stair carpet was torn at the top of the stairs and our balcony door was unlocked and even though I did mention this no key was forthcoming

Review 70:The staff were excellent attentive and very friendly especially the young lady on the reception desk who made us most welcome we only stayed overnight but wish it had been more.

Review 71:The hotel is very old and I thought a bit "tired". En-suite bathroom with carpet and a smell in the bedroom that I didn't like. It's not a bad place but it's not my cup of tea. WiFi in my room (in a corner) useless.

Review 72:The bed was very comfort with impeccably clean bed linen. The breakfast was good too (English breakfast style). Easy parking inside the hotel and plenty of local restaurants nearby.

Review 73:The shower had little pressure and breakfast was very slow; I think that there was only one lady fronting house and cooking and she looked fed up. The music in the breakfast room made me feel like I was in a crematorium. WIFI - although supposedly available, the signal was non-existent.

Review 74:Location to an excellent pub across the road.

Review 75:Nothing really. It is a basic hotel that serves its purpose.

Review 76:Perfect for donington racetrack. Small high street next to hotel that has good pubs and restaraunts. We walked to racetrack in 20mins to save parking hassle. Perfect.

Review 77:The bed was not comfortable but i have slept on worse beds

Review 78:Hotel was quiet no children. We got upgraded to a suite which was a pleasant surprise. Good location and parking Friendly staff

Review 79:No Hot water for Shower. Asked for room with Bath & Shower and when arrived found room only had Shower. Too late to change room. Wash Basin in bathroom, the hot tap did not work and you could rotate it 180 degrees and loose

Review 80:Breakfast Excellent, Staff Friendly

Review 81:Would have liked bedside lights and water glasses. The rest was excellent.

Review 82:comfortable, well placed for East Midlands Airport. (Could have taken the rented car back the day before as good buses and shuttles to airport.)

Review 83:Room (no 8) was a bit of a time warp. Bed was confortable, but overall decor was very poor. Shower was poor and even though everything was probably very clean it just looks dirty. Bedroom carpet for example looked like it could be 30 years old.

Review 84:Location, communal areas. I have stayed previously in some redecorated room that were lovely. But feeling is that each booking is a lottery.

Review 85:The hotel is very very tired with fraying (and dangerous) carpets throughout. We were given a "4 poster room". It had a bed with 4 very badly put together posts around it, and that was it. It squeaked very badly. We also had a "balcony" - the window opened onto an area which was actually a fire escape. It was filthy and shared with another room meaning that we had no ventilation overnight as to leave it open, anyone could have got into the room. When the door was open, wafts of smoke came up from the staff who were smoking at the bottom - some fire escape! Breakfast was disgusting with tea stewing in a thermos pot for who knows how long. I was asked if I would like a pot of tea but it had one very cheap tea bag in it and stayed as weak as water. The whole place needs shutting down and completely refurbishing.

Review 86:One of the receptionists was very nice and interested in our opnions

Review 87:Turned up at reception and they had no confirmation of our booking even though i had booking ref from booking.com, luckily they had a room. Initial family room had dirt around the bath and room so asked to move to alternative room. Alternative Room was dated but at least clean.

Review 88:Good location and decent breakfast.

Review 89:too many stairs I was in the furthest room with many corridors and stairs to negotiate. I have arthritis and a bad knee and I found it difficult. there was no lift. I think it should say on booking.com that there is no lift. probably would not have stayed there if I had known otherwise stay was ok

Review 90:nice dining room and breakfast helpful man on the desk late evening who helped me with my cases.

Review 91:Fire alarm went off and we all had to leave hotel as I have 3 children No one came to find us no one seems to care we were still in the building

Review 92:Like the old feel of the place and the staff were so helpful

Review 93:The room we were originally given was damp and not very nice. Booking.com was showing a room still available so I asked reception to move us to another room. The receptionist didn't even check and said they were full even though I told her about the listing. I had to show her the hotel's own website on my phone before she considered verifying. As it turns out there was another room free so she eventually moved us. Not impressed that I had to ask twice and prove that it could be done, felt awkward.

Review 94:The room we ended up staying in was really lovely and comfy, breakfast was great and a fantastic location too.

Review 95:Room could do with some decoration and a night light on the night stand would be good.

Review 96:Friendly staff in a charming building, well located for East Midlands airport

Review 97:Staff were lovely. Facilities good although some parts of the hotel were a little tired. We stayed during Download Festival and felt the room was expensive, but I have a feeling they sell for less the rest of the year. Lovely friendly staff. I would Definately use the hotel again.

Review 98:Room decor tired with some fittings not working. Patio could be nice feature - but needs attention. Breakfast menu limited.

Review 99:Good sized room with a living area. Helpful staff.

Review 100:Arrived and were given a free upgrade, which was great. However the toilet seat was spinning on 1 fixture, only 1 of shampoo/shower gel for a double booking and some light bulbs not working. Marks on carpet. Patio area outside room in need of tidying up and maybe some colourful plants in pots would look good. Carpet in hallway is in desperate need of renewing.

Review 101:Location was great as we were racing at Donington. Lady on reception very helpful and polite

Review 102:The wifi was a bit dicey but probably because my room was a bit far from the hub.

Review 103:Everything! The staff were charming and helpful, the bedroom gorgeous, the location easy to find from the airport.

Review 104:Only cold shower available in room 24. TV snowy interference all channels. Breakfast starts too late at 07:30

Review 105:Distance to Donington park, only 8 min drive.

Review 106:Just looking a little tired and dated, noisy tumble dryer or washing machine sounds ever present, furnishing looking a little dated and tired

Review 107:Value and Location, friendly staff

Review 108:Sunday evening there was a wedding party going on, not something we had expected. Our room was room 6 and it felt like we were actually in the disco. Sleep was not happening until the disco stopped at gone 12.

Review 109:Close proximity to Donnington race track, clean rooms

Review 110:The decor particularly carpets throughout were in poor repair, there was a funny musky smell in the room and the staff didn't have much knowledge about the local area when we asked where locally was open for dinner we were told everywhere was closed. We went out anyway and everywhere was open. They may have just wanted us to eat in the hotel?

Review 111:The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was a buffet and good. Value for money 100%

Review 112:Nothing really negative about the stay, just rooms a bit tired looking, few bits of mould/damp in places but it's an old building with lots of character. No lift for those who would require it

Review 113:20min walk from Donington Park circuit, nice room, staff were really welcoming and food was good

Review 114:The bedroom 26 smelt of damp we had no milk the door wouldnt lock the bathroom needs a revamp and there were bulbs out. There was no information in the room for anything. I felt it was over priced.

Review 115:The pubs were nice and the people very friendly

Review 116:TV reception is not good, but that is probably becuase of the age of the hotel and the thickness of the walls - not sure! - think a Satellite dish would easily sort it out.

Review 117:I've stayed here on my own numerous times, when spending the weekend at Racing. Staff are consistently friendly and helpful. Stephen is a delight, nothing is a problem. The bed in room 24, where I have stayed a couple of times, is incredibly comfortable

Review 118:All more than adequet for my two night stay although could do with updating now , only little grumble was there didnt appear to be a remote for tv so had to get out of bed everytime to turn tv over and turn it off after i was settled for the night ( but maybe just me being lazy!!)

Review 119:Size of room very spacious prefered being in main hotel as stayed in annex before breakfast was ample Staff welcoming and friendly

Review 120:The lack of a protected smoking place. The fact that the bar is quite small and became noisy due to a conference.

Review 121:Location - we flew from E Midlands airport the next day. We'd book again.

Review 122:Bedroom 21 was very poor, grouting in tiles around the bath was missing, toilet bowl was badly stained, when opening the balcony door the curtain rail falls down, guttering on balcony is full of moss, ,leaves and other debris, adjacent building has a an overflow problem. Hotel brochure states there are additional towels in the wardrobe, there were not.

Review 123:Attended a wedding and all aspects related were good.

Review 124:Had a room in the 'courtyard' for first night. Bathroom light didn't work, no heating not a great night sleep. Second room was on top floor. It was a very outdated room. The bed was very uncomfortable and the old frame for the bed was incredibly noisy. The breakfast I had included in the price however it was freezing cold when it came out.

Review 125:Location.

Review 126:The front of the hotel slopes slightly but has a sudden dip which is not obvious. I twisted my ankle quite badly. This area needs new tarmac.

Review 127:Pleasant staff, very helpful and smiling.

Review 128:The room we were allocated was a court yard view(not a good view) with a disabled bathroom(we are not disabled) and although it was clean it was absolutely freezing. No main heating(2 electric heaters,of which one was very unstable)

Review 129:Location was good as we were visiting Donington Park.Hotel was in a good position in the village.

Review 130:Not all rooms have baths so best to ask at booking. The plumbing can be loud at times and floorboards in hall - both woke me up but it's an old historic place so understandable

Review 131:Great location of room with a patio onto private garden.Large comfortable bed. Staff were helpful when I called beforehand to ask for a room with a bath, they switched it no extra charge.

Review 132:Showers are poor quality. Doors & room locks seem flimsy and poorly fitted. All desks are along way away from plug sockets

Review 133:Convenient and good price

Review 134:Friendly Staff, the hotel gave us a free up grade to the room above the basic double! Really big room with a lovely garden view. Clean comfy big doulbe bed. Big clean bathroom with painted toilet bath etc. Late bar, what more can I say!

Review 135:need of some refurbishment in bar area and room but clean

Review 136:friendly welcoming staff good service in all parts of the hotel good food at dinner and Breakfast Handy location

Review 137:Due to booking over internet, was unaware of wedding and so was unable to use the bar. No signal in the room. No bath although internet stated there was

Review 138:The room was out of the way, very comfortable and nice layout.

Review 139:That the road noise was at times annoying. Double glazing would solve the problem. no thermostat to control the heating, which was far to hot.

Review 140:The Friendly staff

Review 141:The hotel is slightly tired in its appearance.

Review 142:Breakfast fantastic and all good quality food. Staff very friendly. Accepts pets so that was brilliant. Overall a tired hotel but clean (ish) and good value.

Review 143:In courtyard outside door broken inside door of light plywood only door between us and outside. Someone walk around in room above all night floorboards making a terrible racket . Bed and pillows most uncomfortable would not return here ever

Review 144:Staff were friendly and helpful and friendly but awful place to stay
