Reviews for Borough Arms Hotel

Review 1:The staff were lovely especially the Chef Stuart. The receptionists where all very welcoming and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable and very quiet, Breakfast was lovely also. Very homely, definitely recommended. The Hotel is not luxurious but cleanliness and homely is definitely what you get. Really enjoyed Our stay.

Review 2:If had children would have complained about window locks as low level window sills and opened fully . R 26

Review 3:Traditional style hotel and feel right for the area .

Review 4:Bathroom a little untidy. Grout round tiles and silicone around the bath needs addressing and maybe replacing but still a good size and warm.

Review 5:over all very good value for money. Requested one of the anex and got what we asked for. Rooms were warm and clean. Very soft clean white towel and plenty of them. Lovely deep bath and plenty of hot water too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Close to all amenities. This has been our 4th visit to the borough arms and we will return again. Thank you

Review 6:I really liked this hotel. The staff were fantastic. Breakfast was grand, and I really really recommend dinner in the restaurant. Room was fine. No more or less than I paid for. I loved the place.

Review 7:There was a function on the night of our stay so was difficult to get parking.g place.

Review 8:Even though the rooms are dated and needing some TLC the staff were very friendly and everything is there that you require. For the price it is good value.

Review 9:Very small room poorly furnished Four flights of stairs, some narrow. No help and no lift Bed / mattress worn out No shower gel or shampoo TV old and no BBC channels Needs redecorating: very worn

Review 10:Quite friendly staff Convenient as we had a function in the hotel. Good breakfast Wifi free

Review 11:would not serve us with a drink in their bar after 10.30pm stating that this was their licensing hours. Never ask again after that. On returning to hotel next night went to nearby bar. Thankfully wasn:t raining.

Review 12:staff were very friendly and in some respect helpful.

Review 13:Stayed here many, many times over the last two years, welcoming and friendly, staff very pleasant and helpful. Location perfect for Newcastle Night life, excellent Breakfasts, food in the Restaurant and Bar very good, Overall, Excellent value for money.

Review 14:The fact there was no lift, I was on the very top floor and wasn't offered any help with my suitcase. Some of the staff are nice and then others are quite awkward and difficult to make out. Very loud neighbouring rooms on my final night, thought my hotel room wall and door were gonna' come through! Needs a serious re-furb and lick of paint. Not to mention the most recent menu in rooms.

Review 15:The food.

Review 16:Our room was in the annexe, nothing wrong with the room size etc., but the overpowering odour of pets was disgusting. The staff promptly gave us an alternative room, which was good.

Review 17:Very helpful staff couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of it.

Review 18:Rooms are small, both single and double. a bit too warm for me even though I turned the heating off.

Review 19:Price. £5 for a full breakfast. Can you beat that?

Review 20:The internet connection is so slow as to be almost unusable, even just for email - when you're working away from home and want to Skype home or watch something in the room this may cause me to look elsewhere I'm afraid.

Review 21:The room is spacious, clean and smells nice when you enter. A good location a small walks from the town. The bar, where you can have food and drink, is only downstairs so not far to go. There is a free car park at the back of the hotel. There was heating instead of air conditioning like some hotels.

Review 22:shower awful could barely get in and out of it ,bed up against the wall so could only get in from one side, partner never wants to return.

Review 23:lady on desk friendly, close to town

Review 24:Staff in reception were extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant provided excellent service with a varied and well presented selection of dishes.Good value for money all round. Managerial staff most anxious to help and to please. We were well looked-after.

Review 25:All good but stairs my be problem for some but all nicely carpeted . No lift .

Review 26:A traditional Victoria style hotel big skirting boards and curtains . Very cosy.

Review 27:Difficulty in obtaining WI FI. Bed very uncomfortable, Duvet too heavy. Although clean, place is in need of some serious re-decoration, paint peeling off everywhere.

Review 28:Friendly staff. Explained everything we wanted to know.

Review 29:No toiletries 3 flights of stairs double bed pushed to wall small room shower head and shower door pain in neck .

Review 30:It was clean break fast friendly staff

Review 31:There was mould all over the bathroom, and dust on top of the mirror frames. The shower was far to small for an average size man. The decor of the rooms and the facilities of the en-suite are in dire need of updating.

Review 32:The location was great!

Review 33:The room wasn't the best. There was mould all over the bathroom, and dust on top of the mirror frames. The shower was far to small for an average size man, let alone myself. The toilet seat wasn't fixed correctly. And was not completely over the toilet bowl. There was soap open and used in the sink. The bed was very soft and lumpy, and we could feel the springs when we were lying down. The decor of the rooms and the facilities of the en-suite are in dire need of updating.

Review 34:We stayed for a wedding where I was the best man. The staff could not do enough for us. Everything we asked for was done quickly with no fuss. The meal for the wedding breakfast was excellent, way beyond what you would expect for this type of venue. The wedding co-ordinator was friendly and helpful. The service from the rest of the staff was fantastic also.

Review 35:The waterproof underblanket made bed feel damp. Also bathroom in desperate need of re-vamp. Be nice to have a table outside somewhere.

Review 36:The staff were very helpful. Good choice for breakfast.

Review 37:Bathrooms need updating, poor repairs round bath. Beds need new mattress too soft. Noisy on Saturday till gone 12 from disco

Review 38:Noisy at night from wedding disco till gone 12pm

Review 39:Nothing

Review 40:Was great for us.a group of friends visiting rigger. Wich is 5 mins away.5 minute walk to town.plenty of parking .accomadating staff.I'll be back

Review 41:Decor dated

Review 42:I got this room for a relative while the family attended a grad event. Nice friendly staff, the room looked clean and spacious. FREE wifi fab offer as had to pay for mine in the hotel I was staying at the time..

Review 43:Traffic noise first thing in the morning as we were on the side of the main road. Had to leave windows closed. No plug point near a mirror or dressing table. Bathroom in need of some TLC/refurbishment.

Review 44:Friendly greeting from Reception staff on arrival. We were concerned about our late arrival owing to traffic problems. Made to feel at ease when I phoned to explain. Great location for town and close to relatives which was the reason for our stay. Good breakfast at a very good price.

Review 45:I imagine that the Borough was once a premier venue in the area but alas time has taken its' toll. Very tired, dated décor. In desperate need of major capital investment. The annex room was poor, reminded me of a cheap, second rate interstate motel.

Review 46:Although it was a set menu the food provided at the wedding reception was very good as was breakfast the following morning. The staff were very efficient, accommodating and pleasant.

Review 47:No problems.

Review 48:The hotel is very close to the The Rigger music venue, where I needed to be during my stay. Also close to takeaways. Friendly staff, hassle-free check-in. Room had everything I needed. No problems with noise.

Review 49:Nothing to complain. Would go again!

Review 50:Comfy bed, great room facilities and was pleased to have got a last minute booking so I could see the girlfriend the next day.

Review 51:paint flaking off ceiling in bathroom, mould in grouting in bathroom, desk chair bent leg, no where to plug in the kettle

Review 52:nice breakfast but not good value if you were a non resident but vey small fried egg

Review 53:Wifi did not work: they didnt give me an access code so I had to call and was up till midnight trying to get online. I ended up waking up late as a result and missed breakfast that I paid for. The staff offered absolutely nothing to make up for it and I basically lost the money I paid for it.

Review 54:room was comfortable

Review 55:Convenient walking distance to town centre pubs and restaurants. Comfortable and individual at a competitive price. Although on busy road the refurbished rooms have effective double glazing so had no traffic noise.

Review 56:Had to ask to have heating on. Apparently the pilot light had blown out on boiler. Was not until the morning that room was a reasonable temperature. Bathroom floor looked dirty and in the end I unscrewed shower head as seal leaked hardly delivering any water

Review 57:Comfortable bed, free WIFI, TV channels were OK with good reception. Friendly staff. Hot water spoilt by the leaky shower head

Review 58:Dirty and broken. The toilet had not been flushed or cleaned. There was dryed sick on the toilet seat! The shower door didn't close. Carpet was dirty.

Review 59:It didn'r last long. The night porter was very friendly.

Review 60:not a bad experience but the annexe rooms are quite dated and dark, the wash hand basin plug stuck each time we put the plug in and we had to release it from underneath , also the toilet didn't flush properly , also the toilet seat and toilet were wobbly

Review 61:location to the town centre, friendly and pleasant staff, we only had breakfast because the restaurant was closed on the Friday bank holiday, plenty of choice at breakfast

Review 62:Would have liked a Sunday evening meal.

Review 63:Everything was excellent value. Staff were excellent . Food was very well priced and plenty if it. Would definitely stay again.

Review 64:The room was very basic and although a double room, the bed didn't really seem big enough. I felt it was over-priced.

Review 65:the television was really good with lots of different channels. The staff were very pleasant. The food looked good value for money but I didn't actually have any. Just looked at the menu

Review 66:As in the headline, I was disturbed by some utterly thoughtless cretin next to my room, 43, he was in 42, banging his door at around 03:40 in the morning! Totally ruined my nights sleep! I had a 200 mile drive to complete that day, so I was not impressed. Obviously this was not the hotel's fault.

Review 67:I liked the friendly welcome and the overall feel of the place which has a very interesting history having started life as pottery, then a brewery until eventually becoming a hotel. The original building dates from the 1700's.

Review 68:The bed could of been abit more stable very rough mattress but still sleeping capable just found it quite hard. Beds head board was quite irritating aswell too close to pillows..

Review 69:The room was really serene lovely place with a nice atmosphere around the grounds. Staff were very cooperative and attended to anything we required got a lot for the £50 spent!

Review 70:The floors creeked in the bathroom and bedroom.the paint work looks tired.

Review 71:lovely hot shower, comfortable bed,the food was excellent staff were very helpful. :)

Review 72:The temperature of the shower hot water was low and should be increased in such a freezing weather.

Review 73:Breakfast was sumptuos and good value. Dining hall clean with smart decor. Bed was comfortable. Room reasonably warm. Excellent , fast wi-fi.

Review 74:Rebooked for 2 nights, moved from main Hotel to annexe. Room clean, paper thin walls so could hear all sorts of things from the side and from above.Bathroom dated and needed a refresh. Room draughty round door frame. Functional though.

Review 75:Well situated to for the Theatre and town in Newcastle. Staff friendly, nice breakfast.

Review 76:Restaurant was not serving dinner due to Christmas party going on - not a big problem but they could have let us know in advance. Décor is a little dated, but clean and in good condition

Review 77:Friendly service - reception put us on the top floor so we wouldn't be disturbed by Christmas party Good breakfast Big room Nice bathroom, good shower Comfortable bed Cot provided for infant

Review 78:the bed felt like it was sunk in the middle and squeaked at the slightest movement although comfortable in general

Review 79:the price of breakfast was very reasonable

Review 80:The service at breakfast was as limp as the previous day's wasimpressive. Ages to be served and it seemed a surprise that we wantedsome breakfast. Not enough to spoil the overall experience, but pleaseget a dynamic going in the dining room to match the rest of the hotel.

Review 81:The service at booking time, in the bar, and in the hotel was fantastic.I changed my room at short notice, took two hungry children into the barand was looked after beautifully (the food was really good too). Room'correct' rather than luxurious, but slept really well.

Review 82:Coffee for breakfast was instant, not filter. ...that's it!

Review 83:Clean. Good Staff Good breakfast. Good Wifi. Good Bar. Good night's sleep. Good price.

Review 84:The first room we stayed in was a smoking room . But they changed it for us .

Review 85:Changed us to a better room with no fuss . Breakfast was very good and excellent value for money . Staff lovely

Review 86:Décor was tired. Toiletries are not provided. Bar closes for 3 hours in the afternoon including Saturdays.

Review 87:very spacious room. Good freshly cooked breakfast. Polite and helpful staff. Free and plentiful parking

Review 88:It was convenient to have eating facilities for both breakfast and dinner on-site. The registration clerk I think her name was Gemma was extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with

Review 89:There was only a double and a single bed for four of us, the shower was very bad (fast running cold water or barely flowing warm water) there was only 1 hand towel and a bath towel for four of us. I failed to recieve the wake up call I was offered which I said I would like for 9am. Would never go back and certainly wouldn't recommend the borough arms to anyone else!

Review 90:The beds were uncomfy and no double room option, the bath was dirty and the carpet shabby and the chair was torn

Review 91:Staff like no other, they helped us find a chemist open on a Sunday, gave us a map, nothing was too much trouble. Very good value for money, the breakfast was very good for £5 each. Perfect location for alton towers

Review 92:Whilst running a bath the got water tap in room 52 doesn't work very good

Review 93:Beds were comfy so had a good nights sleep, located close to kebab houses if craving a fast food meal, had TV with all the digital channels and free wifi, room was clean and have bru kit for a morning coffee in the room

Review 94:Due to the lack of staff being little and spread, The only thing that let it down on our second visit was a group of golfing personel whom were in the bar, f-ing and blinding quite loud, and no one seemed to be checking them for it.

Review 95:This was our second stay at the Borough Arms, and at was as good as the first. We would recommend it to anyone.

Review 96:Not being able to get out of both sides of the bed. There was no bedside table on one side as the bed was up against a wall which made it difficult to get out of bed in the night. The bathroom was in poor condition with brickdust coming out of the ceiling onto the bath. There was only one mug supplied for tea even though we registered as a couple. The whole room needs refurbishment. Guests smoking in the entrance doorways left a strong smell of smoke everywhere.

Review 97:Location for us was good as we were attending a wedding at the registry office

Review 98:I used this hotel because it was near the hospital. while there I needed to extend my stay for 2 more nights and the staff were really helpful enabling me to stay in the same room so relieved stress from me and the staff were really friendly and cheerful. They really made me relaxed. If I visit again I would certainly book here

Review 99:There was a wedding reception held on the Saturday night which didn't finish until well after midnight totally disturbing my sleep ruining my preparations for the competition I was playing in on the Sunday. I wll stay elsewhere next time.

Review 100:Restaurant -food and service was excellent

Review 101:Lots of narrow stairs up & down to get to our room in the main building which is a bit of a maze - we prefer the annexe rooms

Review 102:We have stayed at the Borough Arms several times and have found it to be comfortable, well-located in the middle of N-u-L and easy to find; the staff have been friendly & helpful and made us feel welcome. We will stay again.

Review 103:Shower spurted rather than flowed. I couldn't get the wi-fi to work.

Review 104:You get what you pay for at the Borough Arms, so don't expect frills. But it's clean and pretty comfortable. A good full English for a fiver served (when we were there) by two very pleasant ladies.

Review 105:Twin room, two people, but only one cup. Only one pillow each, but luckily I don't use pillows

Review 106:Good, clean room. Comfy beds. Good parking and local to where I was visiting. Breakfast good. Well worth the extra.

Review 107:lighting in room was poor. no hair dryer noisy - walls very thin

Review 108:the bar facilities and space, the food, large car park near to registry office staff

Review 109:Very noisy as hotel holds a lot of functions. We were in the annexe where the walls are paper thin .we had noisy neigbours so between this and music from the hotel we couldn't sleep.

Review 110:Arrived late evening and felt pressured to leave the bar, when we would have preferred a couple of relaxing drinks.

Review 111:Central location and comfortable acomadation.

Review 112:nothing I can say ...nothing I did not like was excellent.

Review 113:excellent in every respect .Helpful and accomodating staff, clean ,friendly service easy access ample parking ...they have got it just right

Review 114:Rooms were far to hot due to the hot weather. No air conditioning in any bedrooms nor communal areas. When asked if the air conditioning was working the staff shrugged their shoulders. We asked for ice in our drinks due to it being hot, again the bar staff shrugged their shoulders.

Review 115:Manager and reception staff very good and helpful. Staff within the restaurant pleasant.

Review 116:Room was extremely hot and it was right next to the road s i couldn't open the windows. Every time someone flushed the toilet in adjacent rooms it sounded like an aeroplane was taking off. The plaster was also coming of the walls.

Review 117:Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean and tidy room. Large and comfortable bed.

Review 118:Hotel is a little tired needs a fair bit of tlc, bedroom very stuffy andblankets not duvets very old hat too heavy.too many stairs to climb thatsaid I have stayed in worse and would stay again.

Review 119:Food was good and fair priced, service and bar was good, beer was good andcheap staff pleasant, no complaints for standard of hotel.

Review 120:Bathroom soap produces little lather for washing, and only one very flimsy pillow.

Review 121:Very friendly staff on reception when I checked in, excellent breakfast, good location for town, car parking, and Wi-Fi in rooms.

Review 122:Me and a friend went came to Newcastle-under-Lyme to see and have a night out with some friends we met while on holiday. It offered what we needed, great price and a very good location with free parking. The room was fine, and had everything you need for a night’s stay. If we ever go back we will defiantly consider using it again

Review 123:Room very dated and not very clean - facilities very poor - nets on window disgusting

Review 124:Car was parked right outside room door. Hot water for a bath was quickest i've ever seen

Review 125:?

Review 126:Near where we needed to be. They have their pub, so we did not need to go out. Good breasfast as well.

Review 127:Some of the furnishes ie chairs had holes in them and In need some tlc

Review 128:Location, car park belonging to the hotel, clean room good breakfast

Review 129:Breakfast - 8.00 a.m. Even on a Saturday is too late for me.
