Reviews for Kydon Hotel
Review 1:Excellent hotel! The staff is very professional, kind and helpful! Rooms are comfortable and spotless. Breakfast is great offering many local fresh products. The hotel is downtown, 5 to 10 min walk from the sea, it offers a free private parking with parking service at the desk. The street might be noisy but rooms have very efficient sound isolation. Our room was at an upper floor with a nice view (some rooms might not have a clear view). Overall it is a great choice, I definitely recommand it.
Review 2:Our room, at the back of the hotel, was rather 'tired' and definitely more 3* however it was spotlessly clean. The extra large bed was 2 singles pushed together and very soft - a bit like sleeping in a marshmallow. The traffic noise and pollution made using the balcony impossible.
Review 3:The staff were absolutely superb and the service excellent. Breakfast was very good and the one dinner we had was brilliant - beautifully cooked and very reasonably priced. The location was perfect for exploring Xania town on foot plus the bus station was just a 5 minute walk away.
Review 4:We liked everything; the lovely as well as efficient staff in the reception, the small gift that awaited us when we came to our rooms and the wonderful breakfast!
Review 5:mattress too soft it was uncomfortable restaurant prices too high for the quality of the food and not enough information on the menu about the plates.
Review 6:the staff was very polite and nice some details of the bedroom were really well thought like the hard side-soft side pillow, the fruit basket. Insonorisation was very good, in central chania with all that traffic it would be very difficult to sleep if it hadn't. free parking welcome drink
Review 7:Impeccable service! Great location. A great variety of food for breakfast. A high quality of toiletries in the bathrooms. The bowl of fruit on arrival and welcome drink in the bar were much appreciated.
Review 8:very poor welcome the staff were busy having a heated dispute while we were ignored. They need to know the meaning of reception! The room was fine but the soundproofing was awful we could hear noisy traffic all through the night. I would have thought a city hotel should have thought of good glazing to keep out the noise. We didnt get any sleep.
Review 9:The location was good
Review 10:The hotel has a great location opposite the market close to the centre and the bus station is within walking distance. The first impression when arriving was the welcoming staff in the reception and the attentative staff. The rooms were lovely and had a beautiful view of the old town. We also loved the small gifts for the children and the rai or rakimeli in our rooms. Breakfast as well as the service in the breakfast room was really great!
Review 11:Just nothing
Review 12:A perfect 10!! Excellent hotel in a great location. Everything - from the reception, to the fruits waiting in a lovely clean room, to the rich breakfast and the comfortable bed. Great location very close to the old city, includes free parking and free wifi.
Review 13:The fact we couldn't stay longer!!
Review 14:Staff were fantastic really helpful especially as we had to stay another night due to the incompetance with the car rental, we will def go back
Review 15:The bathroom was quite small and could do with refurbishment/updating. Tea bags, milk and kettle would have been nice.
Review 16:The reception staff were extremely helpful and very friendly.
Review 17:Small bathroom with old curtains system Old carpets in rooms Tea coffee service in Breakfast slow
Review 18:Perfect location Helpfull staff Very clean hotel Nice breakfast with lot of choice Car parking service good
Review 19:The location was perfect. The service at the bar and the restaurant (breakfast) was lacking however.
Review 20:They accommodated our family with two generous sized twin cots for our 2 young children and the room size was generous. Overall, for the money, it was a good value.
Review 21:The bathroom was really small and outdated.
Review 22:Everything. Location was great, walking distance from Chania´s old town. It has private parking wich is very important in this city. The hotel staff is very attentive (specially Catherina at the front desk), giving a truly 4 star service. Breakfast is amazing, they also prepare an early breakfast if you need to check out early. I would choose this hotel again.
Review 23:I can't really think of anything bad at all but if I have to say something the view from the balcony wasn't amazing, but at least wasn't facing a stone wall like the previous hotel we stayed at
Review 24:The location of the hotel was great. The beds were very comfortable and the service was amazing. I really felt like the hotel made the vacation even better. Also the breakfast was amazing - and I'm picky! I would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.
Review 25:Not enough shampoo for two people. The selection of fresh bread at breakfast was very poor.
Review 26:The warm welcome from the staff. The spacious, clean and comfortable room. Spacious communal areas to meet.
Review 27:The staff is very friendly and go the extra mile just to keep you happy. Breakfast is great, location very central, everything within walking distance, and clean room.
Review 28:The hotel is near the bus station and it's at 10 minutes walk from the venetian port. Staff is gentle and professional. Our room was very clean and our bed very comfortable.
Review 29:I was missing the kettles in the room with variety of tea and coffee. Little thing but makes the difference.
Review 30:I loved the food offered by the hotel also the staff was really polite and friendly.
Review 31:Photos look better than it actually is Carpet inside the hotel had his best years
Review 32:Great place, close to old town Staff very friendly and helpful Very clean Free parking Great service
Review 33:we were given a really small room, one of the oldest probably. room climate control has no air, difficult to get some oxygene. maybe filters need to be changed? room was a bit tired and really small. air and rooms are better in hotel Kriti.
Review 34:central location, services for clients, welcome drink, really gourmet breakfast.
Review 35:We stayed for only one night but it was a super comfortable bed and sofa bed in a junior suite on the 5th floor with excellent views over Chania town and out to sea. We will definately stay again.
Review 36:The shower was a little small.
Review 37:Location was very central, easy walking distance to the Old Town and nearby beach. Breakfast choices were many! Complimentary water (2 bottles each day) were appreciated.
Review 38:The hotel car park was full when we arrived so we had to leave our hire car on the road .
Review 39:Friendly, helpful staff, v comfortable rooms, excellent choice at breakfast.
Review 40:Bathrooms were very small, and still using shower curtains which is not ideal. Shower itself was good though.
Review 41:Located at the entrance of the old city and half way to the bus station it is the perfect spot for those interested in going to the Samaria Gorge. Staff is one of the best I have seen not only in Greece but throughout my traveling experience. Not only they were able to provide accurate and reliable information regarding the Samaria Gorge but also they knew well to recommend and indicate the city best places to visit and beyond the restaurant and bar staff were very attentive! In particular, Elleana has been very worried about indicating the best dishes according to everyone's tastes and always remembered and alerted us when the food included any types of cheese since one of us really doesn't like it! Made the stay even better. Rooms are nice and cozy, and we were all received with complementary fresh fruit and water.
Review 42:Two singles instead of a double. Told balcony overlooked old town, more like highstreet. Old town was very nice though.
Review 43:Ace location. Lovely bar. Nice variety at breakfast time.
Review 44:Nothing
Review 45:Haven been given a free upgrade I can't comment on a standard room but can say that our room was superb with a great view of Chanà. The staff could not have been more helpful in ALL areas.
Review 46:Very narrow shower and limited space for toilet.
Review 47:Great location, very clean, friendly and helpful staff. Beach towels are provided. A very nice surprise was the breakfast bag that was ready for us when the hotel was informed that we had an early flight.
Review 48:Amazing location. Had the presidential suite with beautiful views of the old town. Staff were friendly and helped us to decide where to go and what to do. Breakfast was deliscous with a large variety daily.
Review 49:I got a junior suite. It has 1 BED and one sofa bed. The sofa can not be used for sleeping at all, although it was prepared as extra bed. Other than that everything was excellent.
Review 50:Nothing to comment. All was perfect. Will only stay at this hotel every time I visit he beautiful Chania in Crete.
Review 51:The staff first of all is all smiley, kind, helpful, keen to help at all times! The location is in the heart of old market and new market, next to banks, pharmacy, taxis, walking distance 3min to city center and 10min distance to the port and sea side restaurants. Breakfast was massive and tasty and full. Defenetely gained 2kg from my week stay there. The rooms were massive, clean, modern, they even gave us beach towels on top of the shower towels, even toothbrush, and all the necessities of a posh lifestyle. Even a welcome card in the room with two bottles of RAKI alcoholic beverage.
Review 52:No bad points!
Review 53:My stay was fantastic, so many little details are thought about which make your stay better. The lovely welcome basked of fruit and raki, the welcome drink at the bar, chocolates when the bed is turned down. Just great. Every time I thought, I could do with this, I found it to be there in the room or at least offered. The staff were super, very helpful and patient with visitors. The location couldn't be better, a short walk to the old port and bus station. My room overlooked the market and the main road which surprisingly didnt affect my sleep. I highly recommend this hotel of you are after a city break in a fabulous location in a beautiful city!
Review 54:no bad experience here.
Review 55:The location was great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. You can walk to close by shops and the harbor. The bus station is close by too.
Review 56:nothing not to like.
Review 57:Beautiful room, bed and pillows super comfortable , Staff were friendly ..parking was terrific ,lovely aroma in lobby was so inviting. Breakfast best we have had in Crete.Location couldn't be better.Double glazing.
Review 58:Nothing,
Review 59:The rooms and beds are fabulous. Central location to all the restaurants, shopping and sites of Chania. The breakfast is superb, you couldn't want for more. Definitely returning again in October.
Review 60:Everything this well organised, competent and well mannered team undertook for us during our stay was exceptional. Reception, parking arrangements, luggage, children's needs, food and local direction were all managed effortlessly. Facilities are fresh, clean and upmarket.
Review 61:Convenient location, short walk to old town Chania, within walking distance from bus terminal. Excellent, extensive buffet breakfast. Clean and spacious rooms. Helpful and friendly staff. Decent price.
Review 62:Would have liked to have a pool, but for a central hotel it wasn't a deal-breaker.
Review 63:Staff, room and location were perfect. Parking was a great plus.
Review 64:no free power outlet (needed extension lead), beds move away for each other, extremely small shower with no shower cubicle, extremely small bathroom, unpleasant smell from the drain, stains on the carpet, very slow WiFi, no sockets on the bedside table, old pieces of furniture, very loud with open window, direct on a main road, clairaudient rooms
Review 65:Very friendly staff, parking service, free apple tv on demand, enough hangers, spacy balcony with great view, 2 free bottle of water every day, very comfortable mattress, 2 pillows (hard and soft), free welcome basket with fruit, central location, anti-mosquito device, ipod docking station, extension lead upon request
Review 66:It was a short stay and couldn't find anything we didn't like
Review 67:Excellent location, very friendly and professional stuff, very comfortable bed and great breakfast with a variety of local products
Review 68:Room on first floor, supposed to be an upgrade but it was on the side and the traffic noise was disturbing, as far as sleep was concerned.
Review 69:very central and easy to get to the shops and harbour. Hotel was clean and staff helpful.
Review 70:Breakfast is nice, but the choice is as much as other 4 stars hotel we have been with. The 4 x hot dishes are all the same every day.
Review 71:Very nice location, in the heart center of Chania. and can find everything just around the corner, Supermarket, food, etc Very good service from the very helpful and friendly staff, a lot of Thumb up!!!!. All are super nice to us, and they even give a surprise cake for our little Mia's 1 year old birthday!!!
Review 72:We were exhausted when we arrive in Chania that morning and the staff were able to accommodate an early morning check in that we really appreciated. Later in the week, I was sick with a stomach virus and the restaurant prepared a special meal recommended by the doctor. The service was exceptional. Location of the hotel was perfect- just at the edge of the old town and across the street from the Agora. They had the most comfortable bed ever!!
Review 73:Nothing to dislike
Review 74:The staff are wonderful - they were all so friendly, helpful and always seemed to be there to anticipate your needs. The breakfast buffet is excellent - every type of diet catered for - and the lunch we had in the hotel one day was first class. We enjoyed the view from our balcony over the market and the old town.
Review 75:Shower and bathroom in the double room can be updated. Okay but not 4 star standard I would say. Other facility were all good such as comfy bed, complimentary mineral water and fruits, a small bottle of local liquor.
Review 76:Location could not be better. 1-2 min walk to the town(it's good to be quite instead of being in the town itself), 5 min walk to bus terminal/airport transportation. Breakfast variety and staff were excellent. They arranged a breakfast basket when we had to leave at 6 am for a tour.
Review 77:10 out of 10, staff and location super
Review 78:Staff were wonderful. Reception gave us great advice on where to eat and where to visit. They were so friendly. The porter was so obliging and the gentleman who served coffee at breakfast was lovely.
Review 79:Location , hotel facilities & staff attention to detail was fantastic , nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff who gave us excellent service with a smile. Brilliant
Review 80:the staff was excellent and very very helpful, the room was always clean, the bed was huge and really comfortable, the breakfast was plenty and tasty. in other words everything was perfect.
Review 81:I didn't like the high level of noise from the multiple kids from a school trip during the night (shouting in hallways), something I would not expect in this kind of hotel. I didn't like the small shower curtain and very small access to the toilet.
Review 82:I liked the comfort of the bed and bedroom, and the great location right in the city centre. The breakfast was very good.
Review 83:The doors to the room are not "up to date", when other guests close their door everyone can hear it. The air condition is also very old, its very loud when its on.
Review 84:We went there without a reservation and the receptionist sad there is no availability. than I checked booking.com and made the reservation. the receptionist (the same guy) said he doesn't understand what happened and gave us the rooms. He was in siesta and did not to work I think.
Review 85:very convenient location
Review 86:I have stayed at the Kydon several times beginning in 1971. It has never been better in every way than it is now. If I were going back to Crete tomorrow the Kydon would be first choice behond any qyestion. Thanks for a beautifulfour days!
Review 87:The room size was small, especially bathroom. The room we are staying at, had a smell of moisture, carpet was old and not very clean. Double bed was constructed from two singles (which easily moved) with 10 cm gap between them. Rooms are not soundproof at all! We've "enjoyed" the music from the bike show at the square in the front of the hotel with fully closed windows. Rest of the night we hear baby cries in the neighbor's room. I could only fall asleep only after I put my head between two pillows.
Review 88:The staff is welcome and helpful, hotel has a good location and free parking. Breakfast is generous. Welcome present consisted of fruits and small bottle of 40% alcohol drink.
Review 89:The bathroom was just ok. One could expect a slightly bigger bathtub and overall finish in a 4 star hotel. Not a big deal thoigh.
Review 90:Family with children 8 and 10. After a camping trip around Crete, we wanted to spend a comfortable night in Chania before flying back. The staff was very welcoming, the room (junior suite) spacious and well equipped. We were offered a free drink at the bar. The location is pretty good, close to the old town and the bus station. Receptionist was knowledgeable about the city and recommended a very good authentic cretean restaurant (not a tourist trap)
Review 91:Very comfortable beds and perfect family rooms for those with children. Good breakfast with lots of choice. Go for one with view of old town. Onsite parking very convenient.
Review 92:Parking was an issue until I found out that one of the staff would park the car in the hotel's private lot. Other than that, everything was great!
Review 93:The staff was exceptionally helpful and made the stay very pleasant. I liked that I was close to Old Town, but not right in the middle of the tourists and hectic nature of the tourist season. The room was well taken care of, but the best part was the sound proof terrace doors. Once I was inside, I could close out the noise and get a good night sleep.
Review 94:Staff was trying their best to provide high quality of service but to reach the level of the one in the UK, they need more training in communication skills. Breakfast was just o.k. I liked traditional Cretan food but coffee coukd be better.
Review 95:Location was perfect, just in the centre of the Old Town. We had welcome drinks on our arrival, and our car was looked after. The hotel was newly refurbished, it looked nice inside and out. Bed was comphy, with two types of pillows. All necessary things such as hairdrayer, bottle opener, safe, shampoos and gowns. It was queit at night despite being in the centre. Wi Fi was fast, and TV had good choice of programmes on different languages. Just perfect place to be.
Review 96:Booked one night sight unseen from Australia. Upon arrival we were delighted with our choice and chose to stay a second night. Great location, good choice at breakfast and very comfy beds. Very fair room tariffs. Would highly recommend
Review 97:The balcony railing was so low that staying on the third floor with kids was somewhat tense. I'd go for a lower floor next time, or maybe the railing should be made higher. And some street noise did get in despite the excellent soundproofing.
Review 98:Amazingly comfortable, large beds (we did take the mattress off the fold-out sofa and put it on the floor). The junior suite is one room but it's huge, so didn't feel crowded even with 4 of us. Lots of little luxury touches. Right in the middle of town and close to everywhere. Fast internet, iPads to borrow or to use at the bar, along with PCs.
Review 99:Parking is tough, but there is valet facility and everything was well taken care of!!!
Review 100:The Hotel has the most amazing staff - Nicholas, Anna & everyone around was very helpful & willing to do the extra bit. Great place for the kids as well & location is just perfect.
Review 101:nothing.
Review 102:The smiling faces af all the staff. When we left the hotel I wrote a letter and put it on the desk of reception. Especially for 2 persons there. 1 boy and a lady. The confort of the bed and the food of the restaurant was excellent.
Review 103:Having to leave at 4.30 am to catch a plane.
Review 104:The food. The complimentary raki that was bought to our room. The car park vallet. Everybody was exceptional.
Review 105:The mattress sagged in midst on double bed. The room was small for the three of us.418.
Review 106:We liked Anastasia on front desk. And our waiter in the dining room.
Review 107:I live in Crete so I have stayed all over Chania in various hotels. We used to go for the 'boutique' feel down beside the port but nothing in Chania I have experienced so far compares to this hotel. Lovely rooms, beds to die for. No joke, they're just luxurious to sleep in. Free parking, they'll even park it for you. My 4 year old daughter was made to feel like a princess by the staff. So caring and professional. Breakfast is buffet style and has a huge variety. Nice bar and restaurant area. I had a triple room, spacious enough. I've already booked a junior suite for a break over Christmas. We liked it that much. It really has a 5 star feel to it. I understand why it is a 4 star (furnishings mainly) but I've been in far worse 5 stars. Chania has plenty of quaint hotels with lovely owners. I could recommend loads of them. However, when you want a bit of quality, a good night's sleep, a location which is perfect for everything the town has to offer, simply wonderful staff, free parking, strong WiFi, and a lovely breakfast in the morning, look no further.
Review 108:The location is somewhat noisy. Some rooms have no view at all, just facing the other side of a narrow street (the ones with view have nice views though). Having to leave the car keys at the reception and then ask for them each time you need to get something out of the car is a bit unpractical but not too much of a problem.
Review 109:Very friendly staff, they were extremely nice to our baby daughter. Convenient car park right at the back of the hotel. Location is at the heart of Chania, at the edge of the old centre.
Review 110:Kydon hotel is situated opposite the central Municipal Market square of Chania. Therefore we can walk in the old town any time we want. The hotel offers free parking, the rooms are very clean. The staff is helpful and excellent. The staff is the best example of the famous hospitality in Crete. Excellent breakfast buffet and food at the restaurant. Very good quality at reasonable prices.
Review 111:The bedroom bathrooms need upgrading.
Review 112:The good value for this location, the dining room, the food, the lounge, the staff, the balcony, the business office, the free parking.
Review 113:The noise from the street Facilities a bit old and in need of renovation for a 4 star hotel
Review 114:Friendliness of the hotel staff Location Free internet The beds
Review 115:Bathroom a bit small
Review 116:The breakfast buffet was very good. At arrival, we received a basket of fruits, welcome drink at the bar of the hotel and a bottle of Raki. The position is very central. Excellent staff. We got a breakfast bag to take away for an early flight.
Review 117:Perfect location in the centre of town We made a reservation for wrong guests, so we have to call reception for change. The reception is really kind to help us with change from a standard room into a family room, it is really good for groups.
Review 118:Fantastic location, and host made you feel at home. We spent 12 days in the Greek Islands, this was the very best hotel we stayed in,for sure. Professional staff, and was given a free upgrade. The breakfast was incredible.
Review 119:Several of the warm breakfast items like eggs and bacon were lukewarm.
Review 120:Wonderful breakfast with a very attentive staff. Welcome drink was nice. Complimentary shampoo, conditioner, etc were high quality.
Review 121:Shower curtain. One of the receptionists gave me incorrect information about the Samaria Gorge definitely being open at weekend even though bad weather was forecast. It wasn't and it caused us to almost miss doing it.
Review 122:Great location, room, shower, balcony, service.
Review 123:The traffic noise was awful and thank goodness they have double glazed windows. But that meant that your windows had to be kept closed during the night. I guess it is the price you pay for being in the "heart of the city".
Review 124:I liked the free parking. We pulled up on a side street in a fluster and my husband went into the hotel and returned with a person who drove the car to the hotel parking lot. I could have kissed him as the traffic is difficult. We loved the location. The facilities were great. The breakfast outstanding.
Review 125:The balcony overlooked a busy main street and was very noisy so didn't entice me to sit out for long. The glazing was very good so sleeping was fine.
Review 126:A lovely hotel with helpful and considerate staff that is located within easy travelling distance to lots of places of interest. The rooms were well maintained and the buffet breakfast provided was good. I would return to the Kydon Hotel and would recommend it to friends and family.
Review 127:Small bath with shower spray off taps, shower curtain, bad tiling repair. No co-ordination of lifts. Greek plumbing that cannot cope with toilet paper
Review 128:Free Wi Fi Valet parking Provision of beach towels Location near Old Town Very few children Friendly and helpful staff
