Reviews for The Crown Rooms Newmarket
Review 1:Probably wouldn't be comfortable for young families looking to stay over more than a night.
Review 2:Excellent price which couldn't be matched In the surrounding location. Clean and simple
Review 3:We couldn't get hot water from the sink, and there was no heating in the bathroom so it was a little chilly, but that wouldn't put me off staying here again.
Review 4:Fabulous location, clean and a very comfortable nights stay. Great value for money.
Review 5:It was the first time I'd stayed there directly above the restaurant, I've always been on the top floor before and it was a little noisy until the restaurant closed
Review 6:Great location, clean rooms
Review 7:Parking nearby in Guineas Centre although very limited long stay parking available. Shower was not very good, could have been cleaner and bathroom looked tired.
Review 8:Good location for a wedding at nearby Lanswade Hall. Comfy bed and easy to find. Checked in by phone as unable to get to the hotel before the wedding and all arranged easily for payment and key to be left for us.
Review 9:Room had a sloping attic room which was endearing but a little difficult to navigate for my partner when going to loo in Middle of night ? but having said that it is an old building & is to be expected.
Review 10:Very nice staff - asked for French toast for breakfast & they obliged even though it wasn't part of the menu. The room was very clean & bottled water provided & they even gave us an extra one when we went to the bar to get extra milk which was very kind.
Review 11:Our shower didn't work well. It kept spraying cold then hot water and it barely made us wet (something wrong with the shower itself we think)
Review 12:Very helpful staff and great food
Review 13:Noisy, having a window on the street
Review 14:No parking on site, but we stayed Saturday so a space in the High Street was available (and after 8am on Sunday!)
Review 15:Staff very friendly and the room was practically all new. We would have liked to have dinner at the restaurant but were in Newmarket for a wedding. The breakfast was very good though.
Review 16:can be noisy from the street if window open but was aware of this from previous reviews
Review 17:Central to Town and close to Horse Sales so ideal. Restaurant below was excellent . Met some great people while there and the staff very friendly and helpful. Freshly cooked breakfast not like some big chains that have a buffet
Review 18:It is a lovely little place but Unfortunately power was out in the morning of my departure, so sadly no hot shower. Apart from that it was great.
Review 19:Lovely little rooms. Very comfy. Great restaurant downstairs.
Review 20:Excellent location, very friendly staff, comfortable room. Great base to explore Newmarket and surrounding area. We were in top room (4) so be aware there are lots of stairs!
Review 21:Showerhead could be a bit cleaner and some more waterpressure would be nice. Couldnt figure out how to lock the door but might just be me.
Review 22:Bed was very comfy and plenty of space in the room. Bottles of water in the room (wich a more expensive hotel nearby doesnt). Nice and helpfull staff.
Review 23:Fantastic find. Great location for the town centre. Lovely room. Very friendly staff that welcomed us then left us to our stay. We didn't get the chance to try the Thai restaurant but wished we had as the smells when you walked into the restaurant to check in were delicious.
Review 24:a little noisy if you opened the windows due to being in high street. No parking but not too big an issue as there is car park opposite behind to maxx. But pay for premium room, we initially got put in a basic room in error which was small and in the attic space. As the rooms are above a Thai cafe the attic rooms are very warm and when you open the window you can smell the Thai food from the extractor fans. Also pigeons in the roof lol
Review 25:Location perfect. Breakfast lovely, help yourself to cereal and then a full English. Our room was a premium double, really nicely decorated. Friendly staff
Review 26:room was in an attic which was fine for me but not for my husband who was 6ft before the visit but nearly lost the top of his head!!
Review 27:it was in a central location in Newmarket and suited us for the races. not worth booking breakfast as would have been expensive - we went to nearby Wetherspoons. had trouble getting phone reception let alone wifi
Review 28:Great location, nice big room, very clean, nice king size bed very comfy, good facilities, all you need. Friendly staff, very good value for money. Only stayed one night but would definitely stay again.
Review 29:Small attic room, but knew that before I booked.
Review 30:Very cheerful and helpful staff, room spotless. Excellent location. Very enjoyable stay. Great thai food...
Review 31:Too much light coming in through the window in room 2 during the night. The whole place needed a lick of paint.
Review 32:The restaurant down stairs was exceptionally great. The privacy of getting into the room was good. The location was on the high street where a free shuttle service runs to Newmarket races.
Review 33:the rooms are a little hard to find & there is no car parking .public car is 5 is a minute walk.all rooms are upstairs so it might be a problem for people who have disability
Review 34:nice helpful staff .rooms are clean & tidy .the bed was very comfortable
Review 35:The room was ridiculously small. Had to duck down to get in the room and I'm only 5ft 6in. Had to crouch down to get in and out of bed on one side otherwise hit your head on ceiling. Room and bedroom was slanted therefore disorientated.
Review 36:Location was good and the staff were great.
Review 37:The Crown Rooms Hotel, Do not have there own parking facility, Although there is a public car park locally, free from 4pm to 8am. I must also add the rooms at the front of the establishment are very noisey you are on the main road,
Review 38:Shopping is good, Every type of Restaurant available within walking distance, Hotel does have a restaurant , we were only there one night so didnt have the opportunity to use it,
Review 39:Room was very hot, but on plus side, a fan was provided. Opened window, but being on High Street, it was predictably fairly noisy.
Review 40:room was very comfortable, nice bed and clean bathroom with nice towels.
Review 41:Mattress on double bed made us both roll towards the middle rather - needs replacing and perhaps a more expensive mattress.
Review 42:Central location, but good double glazing meant little noise. No sound travels from other rooms. Spotless. Helpful staff. Good tea/coffee tray.
Review 43:No shelf, cupboard, counter or table in shower room/WC. Nowhere to put anything in there!! No herbal alternative to tea/coffee.
Review 44:Very friendly, helpful and obliging staff. Very comfy bed and bedding, Radio by bed. Kettle, tea/coffee. Convenient location. Free public parking from 4pm to 8am approx 40 metres away..
Review 45:We could hear other guests coming and going, and the tv's in theirs rooms, but as it was only for a night it wasn't too much of an issue.
Review 46:Stayed one night at The Crown Rooms as we were attending the races at Newmarket. Staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and at breakfast. Room was a good size and clean. Breakfast was very good.
Review 47:The sink in the bathroom had a problem with the drain so it didn't smell nice. But the bathroom was otherwise clean. Also, the curtains are like muslin material, so let in too much light at 5am!
Review 48:The barmen who look after the guests when they arrive were very kind and accomodating. The location is great too; just 10 minutes walk from the station. The room was clean, with a kettle and a TV.
Review 49:The staff were so helpful both evening and morning. No rush to check me out.(owners wife said stay long as you like)She was aware I had a cat at the Animal Health trust. Thai food lovely
Review 50:We have stayed before and will again. We love the comfort of the rooms and the customer service is excellent. Close proximity to Cambridge and Newmarket is lovely.
Review 51:Mattress was bad felt like was sleeping on side of cliff felt like was going to fall of. Not enough milk and sugar
Review 52:Hotel clean and good location staff friendly and breakfast good
Review 53:maybe rooms can bit bigger felt bit cramped in
Review 54:Friendlyness Would have like to eat in the resturant. good location on high road safe good parking location
Review 55:There isn't a car park. It's not a problem if you are only staying one night and are leaving the next day. There is a short term car park across the road. We were staying for two nights. It meant getting up to move the car. We found some parking on the road nearby so not a problem in the end but just need to be prepared for this.
Review 56:Nice place. Clean
Review 57:The room was too hot, so we slept with the window open and it was then quite noisy. It was a Saturday night, so was to be expected.
Review 58:Nice welcome, comfortable, quirky room. Excellent food - well worth booking, and cheerful courteous staff.
Review 59:Room 6 needed some minor repairs which we did point out to staff. The shower either needs replacing or instructions posted on how to get it to maintain an even temperature.
Review 60:Ease of access to room at any time. Very nice staff. Right on High Street. Breakfast freshly cooked and very tasty. A lobby outside our room was very useful for our folding bikes and our bags - kept the bedroom uncluttered.
Review 61:It's not the hotels fault but the couple next door had visitors early hours of the morning and we're very loud sounded drunk. Big gaps under the doors which meant we could hear every word being said!
Review 62:The beds are comfy; nice clean towels considering we was on the high street didn't hear any road noise
Review 63:The room was so small and the staircase is very very narrow but the building was constructed in the late 1800's.
Review 64:The room was clean and the breakfast was great.
Review 65:Breakfast was extra but from reviews it seemed worth the money
Review 66:Tastefully presented Quiet despite being over a restaurant and on the High Street. Room 2 was my room and would def stay here again
Review 67:would have liked ironing board!
Review 68:good location simple room clean great value comfy bed simple room only arrangement above a restaurant. No noise although it is bang on main street newmarket.
Review 69:No real issues !!
Review 70:Welcome was good and check-in was quick although it is in the Restaurant below. Very clean & comfortable room. Ideally situated !!
Review 71:The room was extremely hot even having the window wide open didn't help. Having free wifi is always good but no code given.
Review 72:The room was a nice size and just what I needed for a night stop.
Review 73:I wish the breakfast had been inclusive in the price as we ended up going elsewhere locally for breakfast at a more reasonable cost.
Review 74:The rooms were warm, comfortable and affordable. The member of staff who booked us in was very friendly.
Review 75:Unfortunately the towel rail in the bathroom broke away from the wall but this didnt cause too much of a problem.
Review 76:- We enjoyed our stay here, it is very independent and almost seems like it could be your own living area. As it is located above a Thai restaurant which unfortunately we did not try, there is a seperate door to use with a locking keypad which just needs the code to allow you through. Being on the high street and next to a fairly busy road, I expected it to be noiser but the glazing was brilliant and it was unbelievably quiet.
Review 77:Small frustration. Nowhere to put anything down in the bathroom. No shelf or counter space at all.
Review 78:Top quality bed and bedding, good location. Free Wifi. Had a comfortable stay. Worked very well for us. Will stay there again.
Review 79:The door located to the rooms was in a poorly lit side street. I would have preferred better lighting for safety concerns.
Review 80:I was very concerned with the room when I entered the restaurant that runs the hotel rooms. But, when I was taken to the room. The room was clean and comfortable. My girlfriend loved the decor and the bed, which was very comfortable. I was upgraded to a double bed when I arrived which was good since there was two of us. The staff was very friendly. A Thai restaurant and bar was located downstairs which looked very good as well. The location of the hotel is perfect, basically in the heart of the city.
Review 81:I had a small double the only window was a small sky light. Shower was small and could do with a new shower head, marks on bathroom walls, smell of Tai food from kitchen in bathroom. Room was very stuffy and hot, couldn't turn down radiator. over priced due to the bloodstock sales.
Review 82:Staff were great and friendly. good location. great food in restaurant and tasty breakfast.
Review 83:No hair dryer even though it was advertised. Didn't seem to be staffed overnight. Room could have done with being renovated.
Review 84:Breakfast was really good. The staff were helpful.
Review 85:Parking was not as described on initial booking Car parking was public parking and there was a charge.
Review 86:Very clean Good location Easy to find Facilities as described Excellent sized bathroom Great shower Comfy beds
Review 87:Quite a few stairs up to room. Parking was not very convenient.
Review 88:Convenient central location, bonus of being above a reasonably priced Thai restaurant. The room was fairly basic, but clean and fresh.
Review 89:Room was quite warm - wouldn't like to stay on a hot summer night, although a fan was provided in the room Directly on the high street, so some road noise Bed was a bit too soft for me - but OK
Review 90:Friendly helpful staff, very welcoming Nice breakfast Good location in centre of town with roadside parking nearby - lots of places to eat and pubs in immediate vicinity Clean room, lovely cotton sheets, nice hot shower
Review 91:The room we were booked into had not been cleaned so we had a different room, which wasn't a problem but maybe this should have been checked before we arrived! The room wasn't dirty as such but dusty, and because the room was white it really noticed. The basin in the bathroom was cracked and again the shower dusty.
Review 92:Perfect location for newmarket race courses. Positioned on the high street. Staff were friendly.
Review 93:Couldnt use wifi as didnt recieve code, and wasnt anywhere in the room. Apart from that no complaints.
Review 94:Easy to find, staff were very helpful. Room was perfect for the price had everything you needed. No noise even though you are on the high street, best nights sleep. Would go back.
Review 95:The noise from the road. It was too noisy to sleep with the window open & too stuffy with it closed.
Review 96:The room was a good size, very clean and had everything we needed. Beautiful bathroom - small but perfectly formed! Oh and all v modern.
Review 97:I didn't like that I was charged £55 for the one night stay and have the staff member £60 cash and he didn't give me any change !!!! Over charged me !
Review 98:I like the cosy feel to the quirky room !
Review 99:The Wi-Fi connection was a bit hit and miss due to the signal logistics within an old building, although to be fair this is to be expected. Unfortunately there was no breakfast to be had as there were not enough bookings for the the chef to be viably booked in, again understandably.
Review 100:Liked the quirkiness of the room which was on two levels, the ensuite being a step-down-into. The sleeping area is under the slope of the roof which is fine providing you remember to duck your head. The accommodation is above a Thai restaurant which is part of the same business.
Review 101:Too hot, fan very noisy, couldn't open the window as we were on the high street and it was very noisy until gone 4am (Saturday night, other nights may be quieter) and then traffic from 6am. The bathroom didnt feel clean and there was an old bogie above the sink! New sink needed in room 3- cracked and doesn't drain well due to shape. Had to wait 10 minutes after knocking many times for someone to appear to enable check out.
Review 102:Nice bed, good shower, very easy to park in public car park just being the Crown rooms. Was brilliant to be able to come and go as you pleased day or night.
Review 103:It was Fawlty Towers. Shower door fell off, lamp fell in half, dead flies, disgusting bathroom with someone elses hair in the sink and shower, made me feel sick..
Review 104:Nothing
Review 105:The room stunk of garlic from downstairs ( probably from extractor fans). Dirty cup found behind door, no spoons, shower temperature knob broken . Disappointing
Review 106:Not much
Review 107:in attic room.. very sloping floors and walls, no windows, no parking, no wardrobe only 2 hangers... sloping drawers so cups etc slid off, very small uncomfortable room
Review 108:friendly helpful staff
Review 109:Stayed here for one night and very impressed. They staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave a good impression that they were there to help and not just go to your room. Very clean and the room looked spacious because of the white interior. Option to have breakfast but we opted out. The bathroom was big. Overall, loved the place and will be coming back.
Review 110:Room was good but let down by painted woodchip wallpaper which cheapened the trendy design of the room. Key code side door a little tempremental. A charming B &B at a hotel price .
Review 111:Location location location Fantastic thai restaurant down stairs
Review 112:Lovely large spotlessly clean bright room. Large double bed was so comfortable. Very very happy. No complaints at all. Would highly recommend. Great value for money.
Review 113:Bed is slightly uncomfortable and the bathroom needs a radiator as too cold.
Review 114:Location as brilliant for work.
Review 115:cleanliness, helpfulness of staff
Review 116:Shower wasn't great
Review 117:Staff were friendly, room was comfortable and clean. Food in the evening was fantastic and very reasonable.
Review 118:Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, near to town, central and economical.
Review 119:Staff excellent. Breakfast excellent. Bed excellent. Plumbing average
Review 120:Nothing.
Review 121:Lovely room in a quaint old building. Excellent helpful staff. The Thai restaurant which is part of the hotel is superb.
Review 122:I don't like because very thin walls and u can hear everything around
Review 123:Comfortable bed
Review 124:Absolutely could not fault anything lovely owners everything about our room was immaculate. Brilliant location :)
Review 125:Friendly staff. Very welcoming. Would definitely stay here again
Review 126:Due to business suited our needs and Witherspoons just along the road for a good value breakfast
Review 127:Shower! (went scorching hot/freezing cold/scorching hot then freezing cold) couldnt get constant temp at all.

Review 129:Lot of stairs!
Review 130:Comfortable room good location
