Reviews for Londesborough Hotel
Review 1:The rooms are a little tired looking and could do with updating.
Review 2:The staff are brilliant, so helpful and friendly. The food is also excellent value for money.
Review 3:Overall cleanliness of hotel and room this stay was poor carpets dirty and room had had maintenance work completed in room but not cleared away debris.
Review 4:The location central to town
Review 5:Front facing rooms can be in the line of being woken up by passing revellers
Review 6:Convenient for our stay close to friends this is a 4th stay at the hotel. Staff always friendly & helpful
Review 7:The carpet on the stairs didn,t look like it had ever been hoovered! The bathroom was absolutely disgusting, and wanted ripping out.lovely brown damp stain on ceiling in room!No external fire door. The lamp didn,t work and there was no lift upto 3 floors to the family room.the noise from the attached nightclub was unbearable on fri and sat nights/mornings.
Review 8:a couple of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and sheets were at least clean.
Review 9:dirty carpet ,uncomfortable bed , noisy kitchen extractor on the roof next to my window, parking place , noises from downstairs pub ,
Review 10:clean towels , tv,
Review 11:Slightly worn rooms and noise, although not excessive, from the nightclub next door.
Review 12:Good location, easy parking and cheap breakfasts and evening meals if required. Staff were very friendly.
Review 13:Our room was at the front above the main door. We were kept awake until the middle of the night as the pub drinkers were stood outside chatting and shouting.
Review 14:The bed was comfortable and the food in the bar is good value for money
Review 15:The room was ok for what I needed, I dropped my phone right side of the bed and when I retrieved it there was 1" of dust in the corner!!! 6.30am someone was putting bottles in the bin for a hour just outside my room, eventually I just got up and went ;(
Review 16:Not much
Review 17:It was very cold in a room, heating didn't help much.
Review 18:Not far (5 min walk) from Selby railway station. And 20 min by train to York. Good breakfast (but for additional money). Personnel was helpful. Room was OK.
Review 19:The place was maybe in need of a little TLC. Looked like it was overdue for a coat of paint, and we had a bathroom tile a little loose, nothing major though. There was also an amount of noise until late on a Saturday night due to it being on the main square of the town with a nightclub next door, nothing that bothered me, but others may be more sensitive.
Review 20:Fantastic location, friendly staff, nice room, very reasonable price. The pub downstairs had a few good ales on and some nice, reasonably priced pub grub.
Review 21:No water in the taps in bathroom of first room allocated. Given another room. Water ok in taps but had to wait a long time for cistern to fill.
Review 22:Nice and central location, staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice and not expensive.
Review 23:Bar was noisy . . too much hard surfacing, noisy customers, staff could have been more pleasant. Hotel furnishings and decorations ready for a makeover.
Review 24:Location, cheap but no breakfast
Review 25:The place was clean generally. My room also was very comfortable and a peaceful night was spent. I ate my evening meal in the hotel also and thought it good value for money - highly recommended.
Review 26:the deco was very dated and we felt the whole buildings interior good do with a revamp.
Review 27:staff were very friendly, location was really good, food was excellent had all our meals in hotel for the time we were there
Review 28:Tired hotel needs a total refurbishment but there is no excuse for a mouldy, ancient bathroom, peeling wallpaper and paint and stained carpets, see photos. This was room 10, we had already asked for a room change as room six had a nauseating smell of cooking oil and the toilet didn`t flush.
Review 29:Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent food.
Review 30:Not been told about the Window cleaners arriving made me jump seeing the brush up against the window early in the morning !!
Review 31:The central location to the town, free parking, Easy access to come and go as you please.
Review 32:The room was shabby and freezing cold. There was mold around the bathand the loo handle was coming away from the wall. There was an onsitenight club which blasted away until gone 2:30am. This noise wasaccompanied by the sound of drunk people outside rolling metal beerbarrels around. The noise started again at 6am with the clear-up whichinvolved bottles being thrown into a bottle bank over a very longperiod. I have never stayed in such a dreadful hotel.
Review 33:There was absolutely nothing good about this hotel.
Review 34:Everything
Review 35:Cthe hotel is dirty and run down..stained carperts ttorn wallpaper...the bathroom facalaties the place was peeling paint shower dirty bed lumpy noisy and dirty in a very disgusting run down state needs money spent on it ...looked good on the website...obviously a drinkers pub....if you spent money on doing it up and doing the repairs you would have an amazeing asset..very very grotty dirty and run down its had its day..
Review 36:The state of the bathroom was awful. The shower head was disgusting, the mold between the tiles was thick and no plug in the sink. And to only serve breakfast from 8am on a work day is v poor. The hotel needs a refurbishment.
Review 37:Location for Selby Town is good. Large Bedroom.
Review 38:Bedroom/bathroom rather dated and in need of a makeover.
Review 39:Great location - handy for the railway station and next to the impressive Abbey. Made to feel very welcome by the staff who were most helpful. Evening meals and breakfast available in the Bar - both good value and well cooked. Large bedroom, comfortable bed and hot shower. As a woman travelling alone I felt perfectly safe and comfortable staying in this Hotel and eating in the Bar.
Review 40:It was hilarious - we had a family room for the three of us (adult males) cycling the Trans Penine Route. The Kann nightclub below our room got going at 11 pm through until 3.30 am. It was like a scene out of Magaluff uncovered. Taxi rank opposite with drunk teenagers screaming and singing right under the window. It would be absolutely pointless complaining. We just laughed about it. There was a huge rotted part of the window frame creating a hole to the outside and the shower was at a full 100 degrees c temp which will seriously hurt someone- simply warning caution hot water. The hotel smelt quite musty and the wall paper was all ripped and hanging off on the corridors and in the room. All in all it was £60 for the three of us not including breaky. It was ok for what we wanted. I cant imagine booking again for a quite romantic stay.
Review 41:The staff were really nice and helpful- they couldn't do enough for us. They were Brilliant.
Review 42:Room requires a good clean and hover, shower shows black mould in the corner of the bath. TV to small.
Review 43:Location for my visit was excellent. Close to the railway station, and village centre. Most of the staff had a friendly nature and a smile. One older staff member was an exception to this didn't really seem to enjoy her job.
Review 44:The hotel is dirty and overdue for refurbishment. My room wasn't clean as I had a lamp covered in cobwebs near to the cups to make tea or coffee. No spoons were provided and the teabsgs were not sealed but open on a shelf.
Review 45:We booked in for 2 nights, after being shown the room we asked for our money back. It was dirty, cold, the bed looked as if it would fall apart if we sat on it, the wardrobe was leaning forward the bin liner had not been changed, and the bathroom was old, dilapidated. and dirty To ask for £60 just for bed only for one night was a joke. We have stayed in many hotels over the years but this took the biscuit. Anyone staying here would be out of their mind!
Review 46:Nothing
Review 47:Don't stay on Saturday night as nightclub under you and goes on till 3 unless your clubbing yourself. .noise travelled thro building ..
Review 48:Food was good and staff friendly
Review 49:Room was old and tired and bathroom not clean, tiles about to drop of the wall. Loo seat loose. No food served before 08.00 hrs and after 20.00 hrs.
Review 50:Location
Review 51:My room, number 10 was not up to standard for a prime minister more for a back bencher. The room could do with a complete makeover. The bathroom tiles were mucky and the ceiling was in need of a repaint. I would not have liked to have shared it with the wife
Review 52:The outside appearance.I had cycled from Ipswich to Selby 370 miles over 8 days. The hotel was a welcome sight alongside the Abbey and so very conveniant for the rail station. I would imagine the Londesborough in its heydey was THE place of Selby. It serves its purpose but the decor of the accomadation needs a makeover but possibly not nessessary for its purpose. I wa quite happy for my over night stop The writing on the entrance wall from the bible, Ask and you will get, seek and you will find etc.My welcome from Rachel, my cycle placed in the nightclub for safekeeping. The shower, Football on tv
Review 53:Poor cleaning of the room and toilet did not work hotel should let guests know when they is a market on as very difficult to get out of hotel car park
Review 54:Friendly staff and good location
Review 55:very old room, wifi lose connection every minute, out window was about 5 meters away from the kitchen chimney.
Review 56:Good location and good price, free parking
Review 57:Bed springs bottomed out as soon as I sat on it. The window that opened was absolutely tiny, with a noisy air con unit outside runing all night. No hot water one night. Pretty much impossible to connect to WiFi.
Review 58:Hotel has a nightclub attached to hotel, noise and music until gone 3am Friday and Saturday night. Group of young people in rio next door, slamming doors and noisy until 6am, also setting off fire extinguisher. On a Saturday morning they set up a market outside the hotel from 6am. Sounded like they where putting scaffolding up around the hotel.
Review 59:nice beer garden.
Review 60:Could hear banging doors all night on corridor and shouting from below our window as was put in room 1 on a Saturday night, which was over an ally way from which people passed through from night club to night club. And was disappointed with amount paid and not breakfast included. Won't be coming back.
Review 61:Could not get any fresh air. Windows locked shut. The corridor doors slammed shut when anybody passed through Rooms are dated & in need of refurbishment. Found broken glass on the carpet..
Review 62:The decor is shabby, the bathroom looked awful with tiles on wall really teribble. The noise from the street was quite loud and one window was so rotten it could be almost pushed out
Review 63:Staff were friendly and helpful and did everything with a smile
Review 64:Rooms are very tired and need of refurbishment, wall paper hanging off the walls on landing and in rooms, mouldy bathroom walls, uncomfortable bed
Review 65:Breakfast was very tasty and value for money
Review 66:Everything ! My check out couldn't of come sooner !
Review 67:Nothing ! The place was disgusting I wish I had seen the reviews before booking this place , the whole place was falling apart the room was dirty , wall paper hanging off the walls , the ceiling was hanging off it really was terrible !
Review 68:I booked a double room and a single. Unfortunately the double was on the front of the hotel which attracted a lot of noise on a night.
Review 69:The hotel was in an ideal location, the staff were very friendly and the accomodation was very comfortable.
Review 70:The hotel is very run down and shaby. Door handles falling off, wall paper falling off. The shower ran out of water. The bathroom appears to have fitted out by a chimp as no person could have done such a bad job. Drunks shouting in street until 4am.
Review 71:Convenient position for us. Good staff and good bar.
Review 72:Couldn't get the wifi! The three night stay had to be paid for in full up front. All food, including breakfasts, had to be paid for at point of ordering. Decor looked very tired - needs a lot of TLC!
Review 73:Central location in the town centre. Food was good, from a reasonably priced menu. Pleasant background music and a nice outside seating area.
Review 74:The bedroom was absolutely roasting, there was only 1 tiny window which I had to keep closed due to the noise coming from some kind of air-conditioning unit or some other contraption outside the window, so I couldn`t get any sleep because of the excessive heat or the infernal noise. Not at all happy.
Review 75:Staff were polite and friendly, food was excellent. Lovely hotel in a superb location.
Review 76:Not one single complaint at all had a great stay
Review 77:Staff excellent. Building in very good condition. No problem with nightclub even though our bedroom was right over the door of it. The previous complaints about road noise are amazing. The road is 75 yards away!!! If you want Kensington Hilton standards and facilities then pay the price for them. If you want an excellent quality budget hotel, with great staff, excellent service and genuine value for money, stay here.
Review 78:The room, while clean, was of a poor appearance. The shower also looked scruffy and dirty. It was noisy and the lack of a breakfast despite the price of the room was surprising. I would not stay at this hotel again and certainly would not think about staying with my wife there.
Review 79:It was in the centre of town which was its only attraction.
Review 80:the bathroom could do with a make over, or at least a regrouting.
Review 81:this was a wonderful break, friendly helpful staff, fantastic food, falue for money and the beautiful breakfast whilst sitting in the large and well furnished beer garden listening to the sunday service bells riging out across the town square made everthing so tranquil and romantic.
Review 82:Arrived at around 11pm only to find the hotel was locked up. Had to knock on the door before we were let in. We were then told at receiption if we didn't have cash we couldn't check in as the card system was all closed down. Then we were brought to a room which had a puddle coming out of the roof which looked like it had been there for years as instead of fixing the leak they seemed to have replaced the wallpaper a few times. The shower was about 3ft square with the door opening in the way that you could barely just squeeze around it to get in for a shower. Couldn't have a shower 2 of the days we stayed as the gas was switched of and the water was ice cold. The room was only tidyed 1 of the days we stayed and the other 2 days the towels were left outside the door. The price to stay there was far too expensive as good hotels in the area are around the same price.
Review 83:Food was ok
Review 84:Overnight noise from revellers from the adjoining night club was more than we expected even though we were pre-warned on our arrival. The bed was very uncomfortable.
Review 85:Very close to the railway station which we needed for our visit to York Racecourse
Review 86:Price. Did not even get breakfast. Family room, it's a joke. Good job only 2 of us. Shower had to climb to get in, thats if you can sqeeze past the door. No shower gels or shampoo.
Review 87:Staff friendly.
Review 88:Very poor decor, mould around bath seals, had to wait for ages to get booked in as the bar staff deal with you checking in....on a Saturday night the bar is priority - not arriving guests.
Review 89:Booked in and got to my room only to find that the bedding was dirty and there were dirty towels in bathroom. Young chap was helpful and moved me rooms straight away to top floor with noisy sliding door to enter the floor!! Not clean, falling apart, smelly and shod have the word hotel removed from the name. I will never stay there again!!!
Review 90:Nothing!!!
Review 91:the fact that i booked it on here thought it was booked got conformation only to find out that it was not booked went to to pay in the morning got told it was now £50 per night the hotel has changed hands and they no longer use this site just good job it was not hight of season and i had enough money to pay
Review 92:room and location great had free wifi tea coffee kettle milk tv everything you needed to enjoy your stay
Review 93:Toilet leaking on to floor, dripping tap in bathroom - when we advised the night porter of maintenance he really didn't seem to care.
Review 94:For the price I was paying , you are not going to get the Ritz ( egthere was a little tile missing below the side of the bath in my room ,number 5 ) but that is the only negative I can mention . On the whilethe hotel was good value , even without breakfast being included .
Review 95:Staff were nice , hotel is situated in main street next to Abbey andjust eight minutes walk from railway station , the hotel is busy and hascharacter , food was decent . All in all , I liked it and have been backa second time on this occasion ,
Review 96:When we arrived we were allocated a room booked in my name however when we got to the room there was someone else's luggage and soap bag in the room, we were allocated another room which was very poor. Won't be booking this hotel again. All round poor experience
Review 97:It's location
Review 98:The noise from the hotel bar and street outside was not good and didn't stop until after 4am. Pretty shabby place in general. Not to be recommended.
Review 99:I'm struggling to think of anything.
Review 100:Location was in an area of late night drunken carousing, with no double glazing in windows. Staff pre-warned me about this on check-in. Disturbance therefore no worse than expected.
Review 101:Location was perfect for my main purpose, visitng Selby Abbey, and very close to the station.
Review 102:Reception not manned, room worn and not ready, bedside light not working, no towels. Main room light dull. The hotel is pert of a nightclub with noise and revellers outside until 3 am, when then the street cleaners arrive, so no chance for a good nights sleep. No sign of anyone near reception in the morning, just people already drinking beer in the bar, so not a place for breakfast.
Review 103:Single glazed windows (with a strong draft) plus a night Club next door and a pizza van outside noise was high until 5am. The mattress was so worn out as soon as u sat on it the springs bottomed out and u are sat on the bes frame. The place smelt bad. Stains on the carpets. Grubby and mouldy bathroom. And best of all....a condom on the floor (not in a packet)
Review 104:Leaving to go home
Review 105:It really needs re modernising. Very old and tired. damp patches on ceilings.Cleaning lady nice, but manager, not interested!
Review 106:The londesborough has a great location, next to the Abbey
Review 107:The pizza van out-side the window till 5 in the morning, causing people to concregate, Scaffolders at 07.00 in the morning at the bank next door,
Review 108:Thought the staff were brilliant, really freindly and helpfull, food was excellent value for money and went down a treat, Initial view on location was superb, Locals in the bar were very freindly, Staff put us in rooms away from the night club and we did not hear a single beat of music,
Review 109:I own 2 Guesthouses so I could tell that the rooms were obviously geared up for midweek contractors. there is no problem with that but the room prices where on par with other places we stayed that week and they had better rooms etc
Review 110:All of the staff very helpful and friendly
Review 111:Hotel is in need of refurbishment. Room quite tatty, carpets worn and no WiFi in my room (but available in bar area). My room was above the kitchen so there was a strong smell of cooking in the room.
Review 112:Helpful staff, working in a difficult environment. Central location of town. Breakfast good.
Review 113:Noisy, nightclub, main road. Dirty / very dated in need of updating and refurbishing badly! Avoid...
Review 114:Free car park / location / Value for money
Review 115:the noise from the street was non stop from 11pm till at least 4 m in the morning.Didnt help having a nightclub attached to the hotel.
Review 116:staff friendly Room was large . Bed was clean and comfortable
Review 117:The shower was over the bath and the fit of the glass screen allowed water to discharge onto the floor. The tiled bath panel was uneven and did not create a pleasant sight.
Review 118:The central location close to the railway station. Saturday night was lively in the bar the music could be heard faintly in the room but did not cause any loss of sleep, to a heavy sleeper.
Review 119:Very old building, this limits any upgrading of facilities in the rooms, no hair dryer,
Review 120:Staff very helpfull, housekeeping cleaned and preped my room as I arrived early, thank you,
Review 121:The noise from the disco was so loud we did not get any sleep until 4.30am. The hotel could do with a refurbishment.t
Review 122:The location was good and food was good.
Review 123:Couldn't open window in room Very noisy in corridor Fire doors banging shut at all hours of the night and early morning Plumbing from floor above very noisy Food not presented as per menu
Review 124:- The dated decor - stained carpets and dated duvet covers - Noise from the nightclub before and after 3am! - Thin walls allowing us to hear every sigh and moan from the next room! - rats in the loft space above our heads! - the beer wasn't up to standard (shame, because that was why we'd chosen to stay!)
Review 125:The central location The Treehouse bar across the road
Review 126:bedrooms very dated and shabby. We moved rooms twice because of poor housekeeping - stained matress, mouldy bathroom, dusty cupboards, even the kettle was dirty!!!!!
Review 127:location really good - town centre. Food quality good. very under-staffed, kept waiting at reception and bar, but staff apologetic.
Review 128:Although the room was very nice it backed onto an alley which was quite noisy at closing time.
Review 129:The room was good bed was very comfortable, the food was very nice and the location was great for town centre
Review 130:Poor service all round,it was a pub with rooms not a hotel,I won't be using the Lonesborough again.
Review 131:Poor booking in,serving at bar as well as trying to book us in.room had a cracked sink and peeling paint/artex on the bathroom ceiling.also when I asked for a taxi the gentleman was less than helpful.
Review 132:The accommodation was poor, uncomfortable and expensive. It was extremely noisy with the pubs nightclub and the market setup outside very early in the morning. With only single glass windows, sleep was hard to come by.
Review 133:Great location next to the Abbey, nice bet garden and pub interior.
Review 134:My friend and i arrived after a hard day watching the tour de France. We were going for an early start the next morning and told the staff we would be gone before 8am which was their first breakfast sitting. We went to bed at about 11pm and at 1130pm the hotel erupted. The night club which appeared to be part of the hotel was exceptionally loud and carried on continuously until 4am in the morning. My friend and i got no sleep at all and we reported this to the night porter. I do not believe this hotel should be allowed to rent out rooms on Thursday,Friday and Saturday as these are the nights when the night club is open.I am extremely disappointed with my stay.
Review 135:Breakfast starting at 0800 hours is too late for normal working hours !!
Review 136:I stayed only one night and everything was good - including the food in the bar and the breakfast. Staff were exceptionally friendly
Review 137:Staff great
Review 138:Mould in the bathroom, toilet was unstable, the whole place needs investment
The Fine Print
This room is situated in the lively town centre, so guests may experience some noise disturbance at weekends.
