Reviews for Friars Wynd
Review 1:Everything was excellent.
Review 2:Staff very friendly. Room was spotless. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was lovely. We loved our stay and would book again or recommend to friends and family. Everything you need for a weekend.
Review 3:This is a fantastic wee place to stay if you fancy a city break. Clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Also situated near all the best pubs and restaurants in Stirling. We highly recommend this hotel. Wonderful.
Review 4:none
Review 5:Rooms are spacious and clean , bed was really comfortable and the bed linen was clean and fresh. Located in the centre of Stirling which was time saving.
Review 6:On entry to the room it was freezing and no heating had been on to prepare it for guests. It's a bit like a maze to get to your room, and although there is parking for your car, it is a pay and display.
Review 7:Modern up to date facilities. Very clean and well presented room.
Review 8:The hotel describes it self as boutique and whilst the décor was pleasant and unique the room was pokey. A sliding door to the tiny shower room, and only one bedside table, meaning the person on the far side of the bed had to crawl over to get on and off the bed. Breakfast salmon and egg on toast super, but no juice, croissant etc
Review 9:The location was quiet for sleeping and yet right in the centre of the City.
Review 10:Good welcome at check in , accomadation of a high standard. we had dinner in the hotel restaurant which is not something I would normally do. It was a wise choice as the food was to a high standard.
Review 11:Room was very well decorated and comfortable - but it missed the small things like coat hooks ( as you need big coats in the winter), coat hangers in the wardrobe ( we had 3 - all poor quality) and towel hooks in the bathroom. Sounds pedantic but these things make a difference. A hotel room isn't just a bedroom for travelers. We don't want wet coats and towels lying around in a small room. The parking was shown as £5 a day in the adjoining car park but the traffic warden was adamant this wasnt the case. We had to move our car to the shopping centre car park and drive or back later.
Review 12:Loved the location and the food in the restaurant. Staff very helpful.
Review 13:Breakfast could do with a little more.. I hated the local flat cooked sausage "thingy". Much prefer a proper one! I drove and parked in the car park next to the hotel. The signage from the car par to the hotel is non-existent - a problem in dark winters night. But seriously that was all I could suggest to improve this.
Review 14:Lovely staff/owner who cares. I had a fillet steak which was brilliant cooked for £19.00! thank you. Rooms were very well equipped. The carpet was really really luxurious! I would definitely say here again. Thank you.
Review 15:The breakfast was a bit confusing - there were few staff around, it wasn't clear what was available, and it took a while to get served. The food was great when it arrived, however!
Review 16:Great central location, close to rail station and right in the city centre. Lovely rooms, quiet and comfortable. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Review 17:Honestly there wasn't anything I had trouble with.
Review 18:I really enjoyed staying at the Friars Wynd. The hotel staff were all really friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms are modern and clean! I can't end without talking about the restaurant. The food was delicious every meal! Their chef is amazing!!
Review 19:The breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty but I would have liked to have had tomatoes, mushrooms and fresh juice included.
Review 20:We had a great overnight stay after visiting the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel. Evening meal was excellent and staff were friendly and efficient.
Review 21:The Hotel has no car park , which can't be helped due to its central location , but there's one that backs onto the hotel (£5) for 24 hours , The room we stayed in was a bit small but very nice .
Review 22:The location is excellent for restaurants pubs and shops , the staff will go out of their way to help you , just an all round nice place to stay ,
Review 23:Could provide some more facilities (telephone in room) for easy access but nevertheless had no problem.
Review 24:Extremely courteous staff, amazing location, and very comfortable rooms
Review 25:The back fire door was open and our room was just beside it which made our room freezing cold, all the windows were open and no heating was on int the room.
Review 26:Location was excellent , decor was beautiful, staff were very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 27:The excessive noise from the street until the early hours of the morning. There were ineffectual shutters which didn't close properly or do anything to block out the noise. The room was freezing on arrival. The food was a poor standard.
Review 28:Friars Wynd is near to the railway station and easy to find. The room was compact but cosy and clean. The shower was good and the bed comfy. Coffee, tea making facilities and a couple of biscuits. The breakfast was tasty and I particularly enjoyed the black pudding and haggis. My wife would have liked to have the option of cereals and fruit juice. The price was reasonable for this type of hotel. We also had an evening meal - the food was nice but there wasn't enough of it and it was a tad pricey.
Review 29:Great hotel. Located right in the centre of town it couldn't be better positioned. The room was lovely, the staff were great and breakfast was delicious. We will definitely be back
Review 30:Stairs- due to my hubby having a broken leg however there are downstairs rooms available if required try asking when booking because stairs could be an issue for some. Breakfast wasnt brilliant just ok - my poached eggs were hard. Walls thin - the Couple up above had a really great night.
Review 31:Location very central with lots of.pubs and restaurants nearby. Newly refurbed premises that is modern and very very clean. Bedroom compact but lovely. Shower great. Downstairs is like a little cafe during the day.
Review 32:Side entrance door , you walk straight into bins that smell think bins should be out of sight not at entrance as you come into hotel
Review 33:Nice cosy little hotel in great location
Review 34:Everything was great!
Review 35:Every facet of Friar's Wind is perfect, although it did begin with a room problem. We just came from Dalmunzie Castle Hotel where we had issues with the room and pricing there, so I was already in a bad mood when the owner said she did not know we had kids with us and our rooms reserved weren't exactly kid-friendly. I showed her my reservation confirmation that had 4 adults and 2 kids. Come to find out, Booking for some reason doesn't relay all information to hotels sometimes, info such as number of children even when it's on the customer's reservation details. The poor owner had another problem that night thanks to Booking who overbooked her hotel by 2 rooms. She was very apologetic and gave us 2 very nice rooms that would each fit a cot for each kid. She even made sure to give us rooms that were more insulated from the noise so the kids would sleep well. The hotel is basically brand new, I want to say she's been open for 6 months. The rooms aren't large, but not cramped, and decorated tastefully simple. The location is great, within walking distance of tons of pubs and restaurants, although the restaurant at Friar's Wind is very good, too. My husband and I did appetizers and drinks there and then tried to hit up a few of the surrounding places for different courses and drinks. The owner saw us and came by to make sure our rooms were fine and offered any help with their menu or drinks. I wanted to try a Scottish gin, but wasn't sure which one to order. She explained the different gins and brought a couple over for me to taste, and I went with her recommendation which I can't remember now. Breakfast is included with plenty of options to choose from and it was very good.Parking is in the back and not free during the day and you can only put in change for a few hours at a time.
Review 36:"Boutique" = A study in style over function. Room & bath cupboard too small (the hand basin was unusable). The staff should be able to advise guests where the best parking can be found, the staff member I dealt with was clueless.
Review 37:we liked everything
Review 38:The chef at this hotel is absolutely fantastic, don't let the cafeteria look of the dining room fool you, don't go anywhere else for dinner, the food is superb. the hotel has been totally re-furbished.
Review 39:Nothing to not like!
Review 40:The building is amazing, the attention to detail everywhere is great, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the food..... to die for!!!!!
Review 41:The hotel has a very good location. The restaurant is first class. Bedding was of a high standard and very comfortable..everything is very new. The owners were really nice and made me feel very at home.
Review 42:Very small sink not great for a shave
Review 43:Very freindly staff could not do enough for you. Very comfortable Beds ,easy to use showers with warm water in seconds of turning the tap.
Review 44:We had to leave very early and had communicated this when we checked in. The night watchman had not been told of this and seemed very surprised when we came downstairs early. However, despite this, he was extremely helpful and apologetic.
Review 45:Comfy bed, awesome shower and friendly staff
Review 46:very friendly staff, nice brand new refrunished hotel, very good breakfast, also good dinners. Exceptional serbice from the host to show cheap parking space near by. Hotel is located in a pedestrian area, but theres a parking lot just before Friar Street with access to the hotel from the rear.
Review 47:Only slight improvement could be some deal with the parking as its pay and display directly behind the hotel but it was literally steps to the hotel which was excellent.
Review 48:Lovely hotel, fantastic location. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 49:Very attentive and serviceminded staff and owners. Lovely room with everyting new and fresh. Perfect location in the town centre, but still quiet at nights.
Review 50:We could have had more help on parking. The street which Friars Wynd is on is open only to Pedestrian Traffic. Finding how to get to the parking lot behind is difficult. Friars Wynd should submit a map as it is a long drive around due to one way streets.
Review 51:Once we got situated we enjoyed the location adjacent to local bars and one very fine restaurant. The rooms were quiet even though located on a busy pedestrian street. We had an enjoyable breakfast.
Review 52:Would have walked away had we not already booked. Tiny washbasin and shower/toilet. Staff couldn't find the breakfast menu...... Have to park in public Pay and Display park at rear of hotel. Dismal access to room from front entrance. Room was charged with £60 for food we didn't have!
Review 53:Sense of humour of the staff student ecologist who showed us the way to the car park
Review 54:electronic entry key did not work, breakfast took too long and made us late, I understand a longer wait when busy but we were first in for breakfast at 08.00 to ensure we were not late for our appointment I had to ask the waitress to chase it up at 08.30
Review 55:location was excellent, room was really nice
Review 56:Ying, the Owner was very personable, genuinely interested in her guests having a good experience. A great central location with excellent food and newly renovated facilities.
Review 57:We stayed for a week at this new quaint small hotel located near the Univ. of Stirling. We couldn't have asked for a friendlier, kind staff and owner, who were always willing to help with all needs. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. The location is perfect for public transportation- 2 min to buses, 8 min to trains, and within close walking of restaurants, shops and mall. And, they have a nice restaurant on the main level. We would definitely stay again.
Review 58:Room was a bit small - unfortunately for us it was the start of Threshers week - at least that is what I am thinking was the cause of the all night partying, noise and music that went on on the Monday night resulting in no sleep
Review 59:Great location - very friendly helpful staff, food good at night for dinner
Review 60:Room and particularly bathroom was very small.
Review 61:The staff were lovely, very friendly, and the breakfast excellent - menu, not buffet, and freshly prepared for you. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower good.
Review 62:Did not register on our vehicle GPS, hotel is on pedestrian street which is good and parking is close but we didn't figure any of that out till we were already at the hotel and over the deep end from driving around Stirling in circles.
Review 63:Great location, comfy bed, fab food, courteous staff, nice selection of whisky, good parking.
Review 64:The Motel being Brand new needs some branding locally for stranger traveller to be helped with directions by very friendly scottish people . It is 5 minutes by walk from Railway station
Review 65:Excellent and comfortable and clean rooms . Better be called a Motel than a Hotel located in a small street in the sleepy town on Stirling .
Review 66:not opened to long, requires a bit of tweaking. a bit of time to get meals Served, food first class, very good but limited menu.
Review 67:Location,clean and tidy. Owner very attentive and the staff were very nice.
Review 68:Location excellent. The owners couldn't do enough to ensure all our needs were met. Staff all pleasant and helpful. Rooms finished to a high standard and very comfortable beds. No noise from outside when shutters were closed. Breakfast was excellent. We heard the meals in the evening were also excellent Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 69:I highly recommend this hotel! It's perfectly located right in the centre and next to the car park for those traveling by car. The staff are very nice and friendly and even upgraded our room for free just because there was availability! The rooms were great, spacious, comfortable, very comfy beds, good wifi service!
Review 70:Room was clean and fresh but a bit small. Room was at the top but there was no lift but I know this is going to be done soon
Review 71:Staff were very helpful and polite. The meals were outstanding!!!
Review 72:Phone didn't work in our room. Had emailed ahead about being vegan and reply I got said some options would be sourced for me - I think this was forgotten about as no options were forthcoming. I managed to negotiate beans on dry toast. No plant milks or soya yoghurts which would have given me some choice with fruit or cereals.
Review 73:Had a lovely quiet room and hotel very near the station. Staff were lovely and place was clean and comfortable.
Review 74:Room smaller than expected based on images on website, missing the 'finishing touches'. Ongoing renovation work, hammering at 8.30am on a Sunday morning! Felt the rate was high for the overall experience.
Review 75:Lovely cooked breakfast, rooms new and very clean.
Review 76:I particularly appreciated the congenial owners and staff and their eagerness to please; as well as the delicious breakfast and availability of dinner; the central location in Sterling, and the comfortable bedroom and modern bathroom.
Review 77:Our room was a great size for our 2 night stay. Clean and comfortable - The shower was extremely powerful - money well spent on decor and finishings. The choice of breakfast and quality of it was excellent - filled us for the day ahead. Staff all helpful and very pleasant. Would recommend highly.
Review 78:Staff really helpful, accommodating and friendly. Lovely bar area. Bedroom was very clean and quiet. (We were expecting some noise from a city centre hotel but were pleasantly surprised that we could not hear anyone else.)
Review 79:Not keen on breakfast, served bacon and toast same time as porridge tho it was kept warm toast was spoiled. Just wee things like this need to be looked at
Review 80:Friendly staff, great location
Review 81:The owners and their staff team were so enthusiastic and helpful. The relaxed style of service was very welcoming however they achieved this whilst still offering a very high standard. Great location too.
Review 82:The food was very good, and I loved that the menu is special both for dinner and breakfast - with non-standard dishes. So not a bad experience but it was difficult for my son to find something he liked. But it was no problem to change a dish so my son would eat it.
Review 83:It is a family run business, the hosts very friendly, as was all staff. We were made to feel welcome, and am honoured to be the first hotel guests through the door!! I love the uniqueness, each room decorated individually, names on doors instead of numbers. The room was comfortable, big, quiet, wifi works perfectly. We loved the home-made shortbread, and I like that regional products are used in the kitchen.
Review 84:Perhaps the Breakfast could be organised better with toast ,butter, marmalade on the table as a matter of course and fruit juice and cereals available as well. The Hotel had just opened and it obviously takes time to train staff and amend procedures as necessary.I am sure this will be addressed in the future.
Review 85:Comfort and cleanliness of Rooms.Fittings were very well thought out and added to the overall first rate ambience of the Hotel. Staff very friendly and obliging , nothing was too much trouble. The Dinner was excellent with the best of ingredients from local suppliers.
Review 86:The staff were delightful to be around and happy to help cater to allyour needs to their best ability. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!! 11/10 The rooms were lovely, beds were extremely comfy, the ensuite was also very nice with a very powerful shower!!!! Location = perfect!! We will be back that's for sure! This is a very new establishment which has just recently kicked off, give it a few months to a year and this will be an extreme popular place to stay and or simply just to dine!
Review 87:The basin is a little bit small.
Review 88:Staff, host and hostess are so kind and treat us like family member.
Review 89:Parking was the only down side but Xmas shopping probably had an affect on that.
Review 90:The shower door to the taps and wall
Review 91:Everything
Review 92:Excellent central location. Staff were very helpful.
Review 93:No plug socket near a mirrow. No tv remote.only 2 coffee loads of sugar!!asked for extra toast didn't get it.
