Reviews for The Wishing Well

Review 1:Wi-Fi very poor, internet speed very slow and connection keeps dropping, come get a grip and update your system

Review 2:Staff very helpful, always willing to do what ever they can to make your stay as welcoming as possible.

Review 3:We booked the four poster room and it was a disappointment. Although lovely and spacious and nice big bathroom and mirror, the room was tired and needed updating, the bed was wobbly and badly made. It was uncomfortable to sleep in and the lighting in the room was very poor!

Review 4:The restaurant was nice, spacious and lovely food. A really polite and friendly young girl waiting on our table.

Review 5:Arriving at the bar at 10.40 to be told that last orders were at 10.45, when this was pointed out I still couldn't get a drink as the tills had been cashed up!!

Review 6:Room and food were value for money

Review 7:No problems whatsoever.

Review 8:We had a great time staying at The Wishing Well. The room we stayed in was very clean and nicely laid out, the hotel itself has some character, the staff were friendly, the food in the pub/restaurant was lovely (we never had breakfast, so can't comment on that) and it was all very reasonably priced. I would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Selby or any of the nearby towns.

Review 9:The breakfast was the worst hotel breakfast I've ever had! The sausage tasted nothing like a sausage! The plate was swimming in water from the poached mushrooms and the tomatoes were tinned. Nasty! The coffee was hideous - I had one mouthful and left the rest . Fire alarm went off at 7am - I was told that this is a regular occurrence because steam from the bathrooms triggers the smoke alarm. Why not take remedial action then??

Review 10:The room was basic but spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff - especially Wendy on reception- were friendly and helpful Evening meal in the restaurant was good - I enjoyed a steak cooked to perfection

Review 11:It is a budget hotel; room rather stark with few extras. Breakfast could have been better considering the price. Smallish portions and not very hot.

Review 12:Convient location for York. Weekend visit so was quiet.

Review 13:I I didn't find anything i dislikedg. Sorry about the attached photo it was a mistake .

Review 14:I like the hotel and the staff were excellent the girls were very friendly it was actually fine .

Review 15:The location was a bit far from the centre of Selby for travelers without a car. The bedroom was clean but a little drab looking. There wasn't a small fridge available.

Review 16:I liked the hotel lounge and restaurant. The food was good.

Review 17:the lift was out of action the bedroom was not as large as picture would have you believe key fob didnt work. t.v not brilliant

Review 18:pleasant bar and restaurant beds very comfy

Review 19:Bar closes on the dot of 11 so don't expect to get served at 11.01. Window wouldn't close despite a storm outside. Fixtures and fittings are tatty (peeling paint in the bathroom, old worn carpets)

Review 20:Friendly and helpful check in staff

Review 21:Breakfast was a little haphazard, staff not sure of where things were and lack of cups, glasses and cutlery.

Review 22:Very friendly staff, checked in late and they assisted us with ordering a take away as the restaurant was closed. Kids loved the play area outside. Room was comfortable.

Review 23:Soup we had on arrival was lukewarm and only tasted of salt. When we returned to the hotel at 22.45 was told the bar was closed. The lift did not work forcing an elderly member of our overall party in a wheelchair to climb stairs.

Review 24:Friendly welcome, able to get in room at 12.30(normal check in 14.00)

Review 25:Tin tomatoes ( why ) at breakfast , coffee be better individual pots and some coffee content .

Review 26:Staff excellent and would recommend anyone to stay there

Review 27:Bathroom not very clean, black mouldy bath mat , room not hoovered and dirty glasses left for two days. Meal sent back twice and crockery dirty at breakfast .

Review 28:Well located, adequate, friendly staff.

Review 29:I needed to repair one of the wall lights as it was partially dismantled but not a big deal.

Review 30:Very quiet hotel, rooms spacious and clean, bed comfy. Staff very pleasant

Review 31:Nothing - everything was perfect.

Review 32:Looking for a hotel for a weekend away in York, but they were extremely dear within the city itself, so found this little gem within easy driving distance. Staff were friendly, room was large and comfortable, and the food was tasty and sensibly priced. Would definitely stay here again if visiting this neck of the woods.

Review 33:rooms need updating!, double bed was uneven 2 mattresses together one higher then the other, one family room was larger then the other and my family hired 4 between us!, food from the resturant attached either under cooked or over cooked and over priced considering the poor quality, play area attached needs updating, rooms dusty and damaged fixtures, no phone in room and frankly I've paid less at premier in and got 5* rooms and service!!!

Review 34:was convenient for me and my family staff were friendly and helpful when approached.

Review 35:Whilst the room was nice the cleaning could have been up a notch... Working in customer care myself you notice little things which in hospitality shouldn't be missed.

Review 36:The staff were very friendly and welcoming, bed was comfy with extra pillows and had all you needed for a nights stay

Review 37:Little details on cleanliness would make a good stay an excellent one.

Review 38:Excellent play area for younger children, spacious room & good choice on menu with excellent value

Review 39:The staff were friendly on arrival and made me feel welcome. My room was large and very clean. The location was perfect as the hotel was on the same business park as my course venue.

Review 40:We was over the restaurant so we where awakened early as their was a lot of delivery from them and from the other units but otherwise everything else was ok

Review 41:The staff where friendly and professional service where good and meals where good and not too expensive

Review 42:one member of bar staff rather rude when asked to give me a full measure of wine as she had finished a bottle that didnt quite give a full measure.

Review 43:polite staff most of the time only one exception.A clean room and plenty of hot water.

Review 44:No bad experiences

Review 45:It had the appearance of a "chain" hotel but seemed a little more personalised. Well located for getting about in that region.

Review 46:Just happened to be next to a very rowdy roomful with slamming doors/shouting in the corridors late at night but that is not the fault of the venue!

Review 47:Large room, comfortable bed, clean and well presented.

Review 48:Vent in bathroom was not working, was advised to make sure door was closed at all times otherwise the was a chance that the fire alarm would be set off by the smoke detectors. Remote control of tv did not work. Loose electrical cover plates some unattached. Lots of very noisy drunken folk arriving home in the early hours!

Review 49:Staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful. Food in pub/rest excellent great food great value for money, lovely friendly staff.

Review 50:It wasn't well sign posted to get in...I am familiar with the area but for people who don't know there are little signs

Review 51:It was comfortable and well maintained

Review 52:The areas above the sink needs re-painting. The grouting above the bath was discoloured and needs cleaning. The bath soap dish was very rusty. The chair in the bedroom was torn and needs to be replaced. Price paid for 1 night was excessive considering the state if the room.

Review 53:Eventually managed to get a twin bed room although we were informed that this is not the normal choice. Check in was first class and was made to feel very welcome. The adjoining restaurant was excellent. Food and beverage prices was better than other chains.

Review 54:Very friendly staff from reception at check in. Restaurant staff at dinner. And breakfast were so friendly.all staff had excellent customer service skills

Review 55:Only thing really was the small beds in the family room - They were not at all comfortable. (My daughter managed to kick me out of the big bed so I got the small bed)

Review 56:My daughter loved the big bed and she absolutely loved the play area outside (in fact she got very upset when we left - after an hour and half of playing). Rooms were comfortable and cozy. Very friendly staff and helpful. Would stay again in the future!

Review 57:The room was located above an extractor fan which was noisy also it was quite small for a family room. The food was ok and the breakfast was not as good as other aces that we have stayed in for less money.

Review 58:Good areas for the kids to play in and outdoors. Friendly staff

Review 59:Very noisy in the morning from 5.30am. I paid for a breakfast but I was so tired from being woken up I just went home to sleep in peace and didn't eat the breakfast I paid for.

Review 60:some of the staff there were not very good when arriving, turned up 20 minutes early, the answer we got was well its not 2 o'colock yet and not in a nice manner.

Review 61:room not ready ,change to anther room what should of been done and was not cleaned at all

Review 62:Continental breakfast was more limited than expected and supply of croissants and bread not good ... down to a few crusts and an under-cooked croissant.

Review 63:Good location and very comfortable rooms

Review 64:No windows view. Unclean towel left on floor on arrival.Expected to pay on arrival rather than on departure.

Review 65:Friendly staff, good size room and comfortable.

Review 66:We had the full English breakfast but unfortunately not very good won't be having this if we stay again.

Review 67:Our stay was very enjoyable, the room brilliant & spotless & the evening meal in the bar fantastic.

Review 68:Breakfast was not good. Had to wait 20 mins for orange juice and coffe to be refilled on the buffet. Did not get a choice of what we wanted on the full english, still waiting on toast!!

Review 69:LOVELY HOTEL WITH FREE WIFI AND A LOVELY BAR/RESTAURANT AND FACILITIES FOR KIDS

Review 70:There were lighting faults (different ones) in both the bedrooms we had. Even when the lights were working properly, they weren't really adequate for reading.

Review 71:Friendly, helpful staff. Very quick and effective attention to a minor repair need in one of our rooms. Good choice of food, all reasonably priced.

Review 72:Found ourselves in someone's kitchen/ bedsit! We expected a bedroom. Carpet was heavily stained and we had continual loss of Wifi. A mirror in the room would have been good!

Review 73:Being old crinkly people hand grips in over the bath would have been a great help

Review 74:We had a good comfortable room with the added bonus of the spa bath the meals in the restaurant were fine served buy attentive staff we enjoyed our stay very much and will come again

Review 75:Hotel nice and clean friendly staff.easy and fast check in. Restaurant food very expensive for what you get and quality and taste not very good at all I would not recommend eating there plenty of eating places just 2 mins drive away. There is also a witherspoon in selby which is very nice.

Review 76:The hotel is in need of some TLC, rooms are very basic. No doors on the wardrobe!!!! The full English breakfast was cold and we were unable to get toast or a boiled egg for my 1 year old niece, not acceptable. however they did refund us for the breakfast.

Review 77:The staff were very helpful

Review 78:The breakfast was stone cold, on a cold plate with no bacon, not nice. There is only one hard chair in a double room.

Review 79:Comfortable budget hotel, good bed. Freindly, helpful staff.

Review 80:The room & bathroom dirty no light in bathroom or working fan and no upto date stickers on portable appliances so as far as I am aware they where not tested

Review 81:The bed

Review 82:my only complaint - the music in the restaurant was far too LOUD?

Review 83:The gentleman on the reception desk made me feel very welcome. For which I thank you. The pillows were extremely comfortable.

Review 84:I didn't like the wifi , it was intermittent all the time sometimes no signal then had to re register again to the network about every two minutes . The room was poor there was dust around the bed wardrobe and dressing table where it had not been hoovered around . The bathroom had toilet tool in but wasn't new on arrival and was not new when room service came the next day one light only worked above the bed , altogether not very happy with my stay apart from the lady on reception . I didn't have food but a lady I spoke to who was eating there said they had a problem with the food the week earlier and was compensated with a voucher for that night

Review 85:The staff on reception was exceptional she was very chatty and helped all she could ,

Review 86:The lift was out of order. We were woken at 7:00am to the sound of smashing bottles. It also woke my toddler up, so. She didn't get enough sleep. The breakfasts were cold which didn't really make sense as we had to wait for them quite along time to be cooked fresh!

Review 87:The only reason we didn't complain at the time was because of the staff. They were fantastic and very friendly.

Review 88:English breakfast came too soon before we had eaten cereal, hence bacon egg etc. was cold. Plates were not cleared from the table, would improve breakfast if at least one more waitress was there.

Review 89:Nice Hotel and bar area.

Review 90:The cooked breakfast and "hot" water were not hot enough and we had to ask for napkins and another cup.

Review 91:Staff were really helpful, polite and very friendly! The outside play area and seating area were great as the sun was shining.

Review 92:The wifi was a total pain to register with and in the end I gave up. Also when I took I shower the water slowly filled up in the bath as it took so long to drain away.

Review 93:Staff were friendly and gave me a new key when I had lost mine

Review 94:Cold breakfast , peeling paint work in bathroom, bed not made and room not being cleaned.

Review 95:Looking a bit tired in places. Breakfast and coffee not very hot but staff were very helpful. Would I stop there again , yes just get the paint brush out!

Review 96:This is a very comfortable and accessible hotel with a great pub/ restaurant attached. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very good value for money.

Review 97:Our friends room bed clothes appeared to be unchanged and slept in when staff informed bedding was changed

Review 98:Staff friendly and helpful our room was good and our bed clean communal areas needed to be cleaner. The dining area needs either a thorough clean or brightening up a busy restaurant but just felt sticky but food was good

Review 99:Temperature of room was extremely hot, couldn't turn the heating down and found it difficult to sleep because of the heat.

Review 100:Lovely big clean room. Ample storage and towels. Well equipped with hair dryer, shower gels and most needed electric fan.

Review 101:Not clean and room not what I saw on line my bed had been placed in what I imagined was a kitchen with kitchen work top and sink and fridge. Very dirty carpet not possible to walk bare feet and room not clean

Review 102:The fact it was close to main road and staff very helpful

Review 103:Bathroom tiles and shower curtain were dirty and there were hairs around the sink which weren't mine! The meal in the restaurant was also quite poor.

Review 104:Toni on reception and the bar staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 105:I returning at night I had to change my key 3 times and get a porter to mess about with the lock and re program it

Review 106:It's v comfy and close to my partners home if she needs to go back

Review 107:I was disappointed that they didnt have a choice of milk in the rooms, they only do full fat but after explaining to a member of staff I waslactose intolerant she went out of her way to get me skimmed milk whichI was very grateful for

Review 108:Staff were very polite, food is excellent . Our bedroom was clean and bedwas very comfortable we both enjoyed our 3 night stay at The WishingWell and will be going back again .

Review 109:Needs a deep clean and decorating, everywhere smelled like food, breakfast wasn't very good compared to similar places who charge the same.

Review 110:Lovely staff

Review 111:The mattess had sunk in the middle so we rolled into each other and being hot it wasnt nice we moved matress round but it was the same room 9

Review 112:Friendlyness of staff and plenty for kids to do x

Review 113:asked for a ground floor room as hips a bit dodgy ...was a little alarmed to be given a disabled room. I am not quite there yet !

Review 114:lovely new hotel, staff helpful and food was lovely.

Review 115:the mattress on the bed was very soft; uncomfortable for my partner. at breakfast the scrambled eggs were rubbery; but the rest of the breakfast was fine.

Review 116:the staff were very friendly the room was lovely and clean and tea and coffee were provided there was a restaurant open all day where we could meet friends and have tea in the afternoon the hotel is very convenient for travelling north and visiting the area

Review 117:Sometimes difficult to get served at the bar - probably due to new/inexperienced staff. Car park could do with a tidy up!

Review 118:Staff friendly & Wi-Fi coverage very good. Reasonably priced accommodation.

Review 119:Breakfast was terrible Could not make scrambled eggs. Inedible. Needless to say we did not have breakfast on second morning. Better breakfast at local supermarket cafe!

Review 120:Location. Good base for visiting family in nearby Snaith and Selby. Restaurant in evening greatly improved from previous stays.

Review 121:When we checked in, the room hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests, we only found this out after we went to our room - it did get sorted straight away but, when you pay for the executive suite, you don't expect this to happen. It was only when we were checking out that we we offered a free breakfast by way of apology.

Review 122:It's easy enough to get to, food in the adjoining bar is excellent

Review 123:The reception staff were lovely and couldn't be more helpful and so were the restaurant staff too. The room was clean and tidy and comfortable. Stayed one night and would use again

Review 124:The beds for the children weren't a full size single, so kids feet were left sticking out over the end! Not best comfortable. No air con.

Review 125:Size of adult bed. Fact that had a room in quiet part of hotel as requested.

Review 126:We have stayed here on a number of occasions since it was built and we have seen a gradual decline in the level of cleanliness shown in the rooms. Although not amazingly filthy, the levels of dust is more noticeable. The rooms are vacuumed but we easily spotted a beer bottle cap under the desk. The glass on the sink had clearly not been moved for a considerable amount of time, it was clean but there was a thick white ring around it on the sink surface - unacceptable.

Review 127:very impressed with the clean spacious room which was tastefully decorated and had a very roomy shower which was very clean - NO black grout -which is always a plus

Review 128:The facilities for kids are brilliant, and our family room was a good size, and flexible with the beds so there was plenty of space for our travel cots, unlike some family rooms where you have too many beds squished in which eat up all the floor space ;) We will be staying again :)

Review 129:Food was inedible and so was the coffee. We had to leave it. We were charged full price even though we did not get all that was listed on our menu choice.

Review 130:The room was fine and what you would expect of the price.

Review 131:Some furnishings were a bit worse for wear, our door key would not work so staff had to assist, poor lighting in the room. I feel the price didn't match the standards I was expecting, comparing to other places I have stayed.

Review 132:The green light in the bathroom and drinks facilities in the room, reception staff was helpful.

Review 133:In some areas of the building cleanliness wasn't up to standard. Also it was getting ready for re decorating.

Review 134:Excellent staff nothing was too much trouble.

Review 135:Only a small issue, having to leave my room to borrow a hairdryer, and the fact our window looked out onto what appeared to be a generator hub! Wifi strength was poor and signal for data in area was non-existent!

Review 136:Lovely spacious room. Clean bedding. Friendly, helpful staff booked us a taxi to and from our hotel. ATM, did charge for withdrawing cash, but handy. Restaurant open until 10pm upon arrival. Clean bathroom, good handwash/body wash etc. Childrens play park looked ace!

Review 137:Bedroom very basic and overlooking service area at the back of the hotel. No plug for the basin in the bathroom! Misinformation about time of breakfast which I had payed for but could not use as breakfast started an hour after my derparture on 13 June. I told receptionist to rearrange this for my return on 18th June which she did.

Review 138:Restaurant staff friendly and helpful

Review 139:Our room had a very dark interior with net curtains at window overlooking back yard and kitchens, very dreary.

Review 140:Breakfast was very nice with a lot of choices and nicely presented. Staff were friendly and helpful.
