Reviews for Hermes Hotel
Review 1:Wifi is good in the lobby and the stairwell, but was very patchy in the room. But you do not come to Athens for the wi-fi do you?
Review 2:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Location good both for Acropolis and shopping.
Review 3:The room was small, the bathroom was small and the walls were thin.
Review 4:The staff were really friendly. The breakfast was great and the location was perfect.
Review 5:Room comfortable though not large (economy room), bathroom smart and recently done. Location in Plaka makes it easy to visit city centre attractions while being away from traffic noise. Excellent range of breakfast food. Staff very helpful.
Review 6:The water from the shower ran all over the bathroom floor. The rooms were VERY small and pokey. There was a common area to sit and relax in but this wasn't very appealing as it was in the foyer. The TV was a small box TV with limited viewing.
Review 7:The area was close to the ancient sites, markets and a nice shopping area. We felt safe. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a good deal with plenty to offer.
Review 8:Location is good, close to the final stop of the airport express line. Facility wise, it is a bit old. Considering the service, it is still a nice choice.
Review 9:Just a suggestion: to offer room service like food and drinks
Review 10:Great 3 star hotel. Very friendly stuff, perfect location. Free coffee was offered every day and that was a bonus
Review 11:Elevator could be an issue if you are afraid of old lifts but no complaints from us.
Review 12:Buffet breakfast was good and changed a little bit each morning. Location was close to everything but not too noisy.
Review 13:The breakfast is not good at all. Please use only fresh orange and fruit juices not the terrible chemical drinks. Also offer fresh fruit salads not the once from can. The Tv in the room are from the nineties! Please change them or just throw them away better nothing then this TV. Also the shower is not working properly..
Review 14:The elevator is making noise while going up and down and you can hear it in your room.
Review 15:We visited Hermes hotel last week with my wife for her 35th birthday and our anniversary. We were given a spacious room with nice view. Mrs. Tonia and Eva were extremely friendly and caring and made our 4day stay very very pleasant and comfortable...thank you both very much!!! Excellent location and good breakfast!!
Review 16:Booking.com shows there is parking - we chose your hotel as a result. Hidden in the fine print it says there is none other than public parking - this is misleading and annoying
Review 17:Breakfast
Review 18:Internet could be better
Review 19:Friendly staff, good breakfast, nice rooms and everything clean. It was nice to be able to sit down in the lobby and have a cup of tea or coffee. Good location.
Review 20:The hotel was a haven of comfort and attention after being robbed of my wallet including cards and money within a few hours of being in Athens. A beautiful hotel and l highly recommend it.
Review 21:The staff couldn't have been more helpful & friendly. Clean, good breakfast would stay there again although wouldn't expect a balcony view. Very well situated to see the sites.
Review 22:We had 2 stays at this hotel at the period because we spent to 2 in Santorini "in the middle" and we stayed in different bedrooms at each stay. Bedrooms at higher floors are better.
Review 23:Great hospitality! The hotel allows you to have breakfast earlier than schedule if you need to leave too early.
Review 24:I had a great stay there, there's nothing I would point as negative.
Review 25:The staff was great with us, specially ths ones at the reception. The hotel allows us to have breakfast if you have to leave too early in the morning (as it happened to us due to our flight to Santorini very early).
Review 26:The fridge was not operating.
Review 27:The staff was extremely helpful and polite. The location is great. Very good breakfast. I will return for sure next time.
Review 28:Wifi is erratic - works better in some rooms than in others. Can get quite noisy during the weekends and sound proofing is not the best.
Review 29:The location is excellent and the staff are super helpful and efficient. You can get an early breakfast (which has a good selection), before normal hours.
Review 30:The staff were quite friendly and helpful. They went extra mile in serving their guests. The location is good. Plaka area and Syntagma are within walking distance.
Review 31:The room was too small and uncomfortable. Old tv no relevant channels
Review 32:Great service, friendly, warm and informative wellcome from the receptionist, great breakfast, nice location.
Review 33:Very friendly staff. Excellent recommendations on restaurants and transport options. I loved the all-day free coffee and tea (with biscuits) in the lobby/lounge area.
Review 34:The wi-fi not very good, especially inside the room. Very small room since we had the extra cot bed for the baby.
Review 35:Great location. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was very good.
Review 36:Internet is not fast and powerful enough to hold skype meetings.
Review 37:We love this hotel and are returning customers. The rooms are very comfortable, the staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly, the breakfast is like a feast. Beds are very comfortable. The view from the balcony is nice. The hotel has a special person who helps people with their tourist plans, which makes travelling around very easy. If guests experience any problems, they are dealt with in a promptly and effective manner.
Review 38:Although our room was fine, the children's room smelled as if there had been smokers in the room before us. However, not entirely sure whether this was coming from outside. The windows opened wide so we were able to ventilate well.
Review 39:This hotel is in an excellent location. The rooms were very comfortable (with aircon) although the showers could do with updating. Great arrangement with two rooms and an adjoining little entrance, for us and two children. Free tea/coffee/games in the lobby and fantastic views of the Acropolis from the sister hotel. Very good breakfast with wide range of continental and full English.
Review 40:Wonderful staff. Clean rooms. Great part of town. I prefer this location to those in the Monastiraki square. It's a little cleaner and quieter. My friend very much appreciated the gluten free bread offered at breakfast!
Review 41:The air conditioners exrerior unit made some vibrating noise, but it was OK. The maid did not knock on the door before she opened for daily cleaning. (I forgot to hang the red DND ticket...)
Review 42:Especially liked: Extra silent air conditioner and black out curtains for a comfortable sleep. Small but smart and comfortable bath room with simple full-white-marble design, yeah that's how a bath room has to look like in Grece! :-) Quiet, sunny room. Especially nice staff, they helped me with suggestions, maps, time table etc. every time.
Review 43:The location of this hotel is excellent - very easy walking distance to Syntagma and Monastiraki metro stations, Plaka, Acropolis etc. The staff were all great - very friendly, helpful and polite. Reception staff seemed genuinely concerned to make sure guests were having a good time, knew how to get to where they wanted to go, etc. Breakfasts were lovely with plenty of choice. Everywhere was spotlessly clean.Excellent value for money. I would certainly stay there again.
Review 44:Wifi on 4th floor not good. Better at lobby but still drifts in and out
Review 45:Reasonaly good breakfast. Friendly staff. Great location not far from train station. Quiet room.
Review 46:Comfortable bed, enough pillows, lovely shower gel, shampoo. Nearness to excellent restaurant and metro. Very helpful and attentive staff without being intrusive
Review 47:The area is a little seedy and scary at night for a single female.
Review 48:Perfect location, great breakfast options, Wi fi wasn't that great -had to go to lobby to use it often, offered laundry service for a very reasonable price (9 Euros for my entire suitcase) Go visit the rooftop bar of their sister hotel nearby for a great view of the Acropolis.
Review 49:Its clean and bright Hotel. Staff is very kind and help full. Hotel has a good location where everything in walking distance but away from the crowd and noise. Definitely I will come back to here. If you want to explore city and you need a clean and good place to stay where close to everywhere, its a good choice with a fair price performance.
Review 50:Small room, no view, bit outdated but very clean. We thought 100€ for this room is overpriced however, staff and location make up for it. Also breakfast was average, no good coffee:(
Review 51:Staff is awesome, very pro-active and genuinely helpful
Review 52:The frigde!!!! Totally useless. It seems several hotel owners must have been on a big sale in the old East Europe in the sixties, because when our flight was cancelled and we were spent the last night in a luxury hotel, their frigde was the same, and as useless as in Hermes (both times). I hate not having the possibility to have cold water in the room during the night, and what's the point of a frigde that doesn't work? The wi-fi hardly worked in the room, and not always in the reception area.
Review 53:Fantastic staff, excellent service. Very good breakfast. A small bottle of wine and a couple of sweets was a nice welcome. Location is fantastic going to and from the airport on the bus. We stayed twice on the same trip, to the islands and from the islands. Two nights both times. Going out we were not very satisfied with our room, which was supposed to be a de luxe room with balcony (turned out to be like a shelf for the air condition and some flowers, no furniture, no room for any). Coming back, I think we got the room we should have had the first time also, with balcony and a proper shower. I loved it, after being through several handheld showers in the islands. The room was still a bit small, which is a bit awkward when you have suitcases. But all in all we enjoyed our stay and won't mind coming back. Thanks to lovely Eva and Margarita and the lady in the breakfast room, and all the others, that made our stay so nice, To the lady manager; take good care of them. They're worth their weight in gold. :-)
Review 54:The room was a little on the small side - but I figure that's normal after staying in others that were no bigger.
Review 55:The staff were fabulous. I had to leave early in the am for the ferry, so I (another couple also catching the ferry) were given breakfast at 5.30 am. The hotel staff arranged for the cab to pick me up. Unfortunately the lift was out of action when I was about to leave so the reception clerk told me where I could find the staff lift to bring my rather heavy cases down.
Review 56:The hotel is in the center of Plaka which is an area full of restaurants and shops. It's also very conveniently located closed to Syntagma Square where you can take the metro/bus to anywhere in Athens. Very close to the major landmarks (Acropolis, Agora). I only stayed here my last night in Athens (I regret not staying here the first 3 nights I stayed in Athens before departing to the islands!) ... the hotel is clean, rooms are comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. Thank you Oana for your help in telling how to get to the bus station the following morning in order to get to the airport and for giving us advice on places to eat ...
Review 57:Everything was good about the hotel. I cannot think of any negative comment.
Review 58:The property was located in close proximity to the main area of Plaka. The rooms were fairly large and the bathroom was of a good size. The staff were very helpful and tea and light snacks were provided at reasonable hours. The hotel was very clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.l
Review 59:A girl at the desk welcomed us warmly at our arrival, and then gave us a lot of information about the best way to spend our time during our short stay in Athens. The room was perfect, despite not having a view on the Acropolis. A nice surprise in the room were two kataifi and a small bottle of wine! Thanks for everything!!
Review 60:Having two glasses in the room would have been nice. But when we went to ask at the desk, he immediately gave us some and some ice!
Review 61:Excellent staff, a small but clean room. The location is perfect for a citytrip!
Review 62:The Hermes is centrally located with walking distance to all the shops and taverna's. We had a pleasant 2nighrs stopover and for the money it ticked all the boxes. We were upgraded to a superior room on the second night... Highly recommend this.
Review 63:the shower was too small to even close the shower door! Bed was ok, room was very small, could barely get around the bed. I suppose the standards in Greece are lower than other cities I'm used to traveling to. Generally it was alright, but not special. Seems to be mostly a tourist hotel.
Review 64:good location, nice marble bathroom. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 65:The lift is very claustrophobic only two people can fit at a time anymore and they'd suffocate. There's no tea/coffee maker in the room and one has to go to the breakfast area or the reception to get one that too only after 7:00 in the morning that's really discomforting, room is pretty small and I took the superior double, the pictures online are misleading, the room doesn't resemble the pictures much .... But I wouldn't say that the hotel is bad, it's a fair choice for the money you're paying... That's all!!!
Review 66:Location is a plus, Plaka Market, Monistraiki, Syntagma are all on a walking distance. Good breakfast spread and good quality food for sure, the staff is pretty helpful and polite.... Fair experience overall I'd say!
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:Staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly. Very convenient for seeing the museum,Acropolis, etc. laundry was done expeditiously and returned to our room the same day
Review 69:Small lift - had to wait a long time sometimes, only 4 people can come in, and only 2 with luggage, which delayed us significantly when leaving the hotel with luggage. The window view was not nice, but the hotel is not expensive which compensates it.
Review 70:Staff friendly, perfect breakfast, wide long beds, clean room and bathroom with toiletries, aircondition, small refreshment during the whole day available, rooftop small garden - nice view in the night (too hot during daytime), perfect location in Plaka - 10 minutes on foot to Acropolis, close to metro lines blue (to airport) and green (to Piraeus).
Review 71:Inefficiency & lack of communication from reservations to hotel desk. a distressing experience when payment for room made. A previous arrangement had been organised with reservations, a nightmare to sort out. Completely unnecessary.
Review 72:Location, clean comfortable
Review 73:Beds a little bit on the hard side.. but really, not an issue.
Review 74:The location was amazing. We were only there for one night, so wanted to be able to walk to the Acropolis. The room was small - but it is a major European city, so we didn't expect a bigger room. Loved the bathroom. Very clean. Staff were awesome. A huge bonus was Eva .. she reached out to all during breakfast to see how she can help with plans for the day etc. She is so friendly and this service is amazing. Breakfast had a huge amount of fresh choice (eggs, beans, Greek traditionals, little bruschettas!, fresh biscuits, croissants, fruit etc). This is our go to Athens hotel. Seemed pretty soundproof as we didn't hear other guests (a bit in the corridor, but that is expected).
Review 75:The television is quite dated and of the 11 satellite channels that wereavailable, only a few actually worked because of the bad reception. There are no cable channels available as listed in room description.Theroom next to us which was just like ours, had a flat screen tv. Downloadfrom your laptop or i-pad if you want to watch something at night, astheir free wifi works quite well. The bar fridge located in a cupboardunder the tv was not cold at all. We later worked out that if we leftthe cupboard door slightly ajar at all times the fridge became muchcooler after a few hours.
Review 76:After reading the hotel had parquetry floorboards, I requested a quietroom on the highest floor. We were due to take a flight from Athens toSydney and after a long holiday, we really needed to get some restbeforehand. The staff were fuss-free, accommodating, super friendly andsome spoke several languages. Although we were on the 5th floor therewas minimal noise from the room above us. Our twin share room was basicand very clean with a bar fridge for drinks and a self-controlled airconditioner very effective in reducing heat and humidity. The bathroomhad been recently renovated with a good sized shower. Complimentarycoffee and tea in their lobby lounge all day complete with board games,tv and the use of a computer and printer to book tours and printvouchers. There's a designated play area for the kids. The lift isquite small but there is a second lift on the other side of the lobbybar if the main one gets too crowded in the mornings. Breakfast was muchmore superior than one would expect of a 3 star facility. A large choiceof both continental and buffet dishes, as well as vegetarian and glutenfree products to chose from. Very rare. During breakfast, a staff membervisits each table to make sure that the breakfast was adequate and offerany advice for sightseeing, handing out maps. This is a service that Ihave never seen at any hotel before. It's a small breakfast room, try to be there around 8am before it fills up. This hotel is situated inthe hub of the Plaka. A variety of shops and restaurants are momentsaway. It's also a close walk to one of the hop on/hop off busstops near Syntagma, trains and buses. Their other hotel, Hotel Plakahas the most spectacular view of the Acropolis in the evening at theirrooftop bar. This is a must see, 5 minute walk from the Hermes. Overallthis hotel is a great little find, easy on the budget, with the verybest service all rolled into one place. Highly recommended.
Review 77:Don't expect pretty views. Arriving to hotel by car was a bit stressful as there is nowhere to park in front of the hotel.
Review 78:Nice and comfortable rooms. Our family stayed in two rooms that shared a corridor that connected both of them on 5th floor. Knowledgeable staff help us with our sightseeing plans
Review 79:Rooms a bit small but didn't matter as we didn't sending te there!
Review 80:Great staff, excellent location. Use of terrace at plaka hotel was a real bonus
Review 81:The style of the rooms 90's style. Hair dryer need reapir in switch at room 305 danger for children.. furniture and parque flooring need to change to old screthes etc...over all rooms need riferbished..
Review 82:Location very close to centre ..walking distance
Review 83:Rooms are extremely small; Avoid rooms next to the elevator - you can hear the noise of the engines every time the elevator is in use.
Review 84:Friendly staff; good location within Plaka - main tourist attractions are at a short walk distance.
Review 85:Our room was in the top floor so it was a bit hot. There is aircondition though.
Review 86:The location of the hotel was quite good and the hotel was clean. Staff (especially Eva) was extremely helpful. There was tea, coffee and biscuits in the lobby - we loved having a break there. It's worth to spend an evening in their sister Plaka Hotel's roof terrace as the view of Acropolis from there is amazing!
Review 87:The hotel was with in walking distance to the Acropolis & short walk to the Restaurants shopping area. Was a nice standard hotel. Was only here for one night
Review 88:The location is perfect if it's your first time to Athens or if you're just staying a night or two and want walking distance to the old town, Acropolis etc
Review 89:The breakfast was wonderful - great variety, the platters were kept full, and the food was delicious. The location is within walking distance to many sights. The staff were very helpful and friendly - they even invited us to enjoy breakfast the morning we checked in even though we hadn't stayed the previous night.
Review 90:The front desk staff were *extraordinarily* helpful and gracious in providing Greece travel advice (e.g. how to buy ferry tickets), as well as Athens tourism and shopping advice. We decided to return to Hermes at the end of the trip, despite availability of cheaper options, since our experience was so positive. Also, the location is ideal.
Review 91:Location, kind staff, cleanliness, we got a bottle of wine as a gift for our honeymoon and an early check in since we arrived in the early morning. And they arranged also an early breakfast for early check out.
Review 92:Very convenient hotel to see all the sights. We enjoyed our little balcony in the evenings. The extra touches, such as a pitcher of cold water to bring up to the room, were appreciated. The front desk staff were very helpful and gave good suggestions (like where to get the best baklava on a Sunday night!). Breakfast was excellent and served early enough that you could eat before going to see the archeological sites. Computer in the lobby to print boarding passes made life easier.
Review 93:Small elevator
Review 94:This Hotel is one of 3 group hotels in Central Athens that they have very good location, Good service and smiling staff. They have also good breakfast & free soft/hot drinks during all day. some of the rooms have the Acropolis View. This hotel have big loby.
Review 95:The lady that visits your table at breakfast in the mornings is a wealth of information and assistance. She made our visits so enjoyable. She made reservations for us and many excellent recommendations.
Review 96:Very easy to get to straight from the airport by metro. Ideally located between Plaka and Syntagma - this clean, tidy, efficiently run hotel suited us perfectly. One very nice touch was the enquiries made at breakfast regarding onward travel plans. Also Hermes nearby sister hotel is a must to visit, with fantastic views of the Acropolis from its rooftop bar. I have no doubt we'll be back.
Review 97:Not one thing
Review 98:Absolutely everything. The rooms are not luxurious by any means but we slept like logs in the beds and def could not say that about other hotels we stayed. The location you cannot beat and the price unbelievably cheap. The staff (especially Eva) went over and beyond with helping arrange ongoing transportation between the Greek Islands (God bless her) All the staff in fact from cleaners to the ladies at breakfast (OMG) the breakfast the cutest greek breakfast you'll ever get. If they are doing it hard in Athens you'd never know the greek spirit is alive and well in beautiful Athens. We went to 10 different places (Croatia,Italy,Istanbul, Spain etc etc ) and Athens absolutely rules only wish we could have stayed longer OMG the food!
Review 99:The wifi was very unreliable. It just wasn't strong enough for us to connect in our room. Occasionally we could connect in the common area.
Review 100:Excellent location for sightseeing, restaurants, and easy access to metro. The staff is friendly and very helpful.
Review 101:No complaints atvall
Review 102:Very well presented, attention to detail with knowledgable staff, The hotel is within walking distance of all the major attractions and transport Buffet breakfast providing an opportunity to sample traditional Greek breakfast complimented by broader European influence,
Review 103:The room didn't feel clean and the hotel was dingy.
Review 104:Upon arriving very early after the Crete boat the staff helped us by storing our luggage and offering us breakfast.
Review 105:Hotel was quite dated, not overly comfortable and washroom looked old and not very clean.
Review 106:Location was good, within walking distance to just about everything.
Review 107:The lifts were a joke. Whats the point of a lift that you can hardly get any bags or people into? And the doors had to be opened manually which we were unaware of initially
Review 108:The location of the hotel.
Review 109:Great hotel in central location and within walking distance to all major tourist sites. Room fairly spacious with small fridge and safe and excellent wi-fi. Breakfast also good with a fair selection of food.
Review 110:Everything was good - no negatives.
Review 111:Apart from its excellent location and spotless and comfortable rooms, the Hermes strongest point is its friendly and amazingly helpful staff. As an extra bonus, the continental breakfast turns out to be a large cooked breakfast with lots of choice. I cannot praise this hotel too much: a delight!
Review 112:Do not go by the pictures. They are misleading. The actual rooms look nothing like the pictures and are less than ordinary.
Review 113:Very well located. All the places you'd want to go to are just a short walk. The hotel itself is located very near to Syntagma Square and all sorts of transport facilities are easily available too. It's right where the action is and that's all you'll be paying for.
Review 114:Unfortunately the hotel didn't have a bar and there is no shade on the roof terrace.
Review 115:Bed was really comfortable, really central location and quiet at night.
Review 116:Tub was a bit slippery and TV was old and didn't function - - but we really did not even need or want a TV.
Review 117:The staff. There were places to put our suitcases. The bed was comfortable and the A/C was quiet.
Review 118:the rooms are in urgent need of refurbishment new blankets and curtains .was appalled by the old torn curtains.
Review 119:Breakfast was fantastic and very rich ,plentiful .Margarita at check in was fantastic ,professional also made us feel at home the minute we stepped foot in the hotel, She is a valuable staff without exaggerating also Oana and Vasili were wonderful.
Review 120:The room was very old fashioned. For the price we paid we expected to get a more modern room.
Review 121:The location of the hotel and the staff were really friendly.
Review 122:The room is small and difficult to get space to open the luggage on the ground.
Review 123:Breakfast was good with many varieties and choices. Bathroom was clean and modern. The balcony was good to enjoy a drink or relax.
Review 124:The room was comfortable and clean, shower was good and the air-con was quiet. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.
Review 125:Location was excellent - convenient to Plaka, Acropolis, museums, everything in Athens. Hotel itself was average - nothing great. Room was fairly good, but bed was uncomfortable. We both awoke with sore backs. Breakfast was marginal.
