Reviews for Hatters Manchester

Review 1:It is really cold all the time!! There were times that the hot water didn't seem to work and stopped me from taking shower.

Review 2:The whole hostel is very nice and sweet. The staff are really nice as well. Their kitchen and TV room are very accommodating.

Review 3:showers were AWFUL... the water was polar cold at the beginning, then when it got hot (hell burning), it was literally impossible to cool it down. unacceptable.

Review 4:very good location.

Review 5:shower is cold. bed is too soft

Review 6:very friendly and helpful staff, good location, get good enough for money you spent on, experience kind of city life with young people.

Review 7:No car park (some places nearby) Front door reception controlled - a pain Showers have no temp control so was too hot you can't get in it when I tried Toilets not good and not local to bedroom

Review 8:Cheap price Breakfast included Would consider staying again for odd night

Review 9:The house is quite old, too less plugs in the room, which is almost only accessible to two of the bottom beds. Simple breakfast.

Review 10:The location was great to the city centre. The price is even lower when you book it on the day you wanna stay.

Review 11:elevator not work so need to bring luggage up

Review 12:location: 10 minutes walk from Piccadilly station, easy to find when walk on Newton street Vallue for money, enough breafast:)

Review 13:Rooms are freezing Toliets are dirty Shower are boiling hot and no way of tirning down Internet is so poor you would call it internet Told a staff, she said they know. No apologies

Review 14:Nothing really. Just maybe the fligts of stairs to walk up

Review 15:Location is perfect as its right in the City Centre. Value for money, everybody is friendly and a bar adjacent to the hotel and you receive special offer vouchers when checking in. Result! Very good value for money

Review 16:Showers, price

Review 17:Good hostel. Not great. Simple and plain. Not super clean, and the showers were very difficult to keep a decent temperature. Price was pretty high for one night.

Review 18:Really deep under my expectations...eI am afraid this was one of the worst hostels I have ever been. The room was not generally nice in the sence that it does not make the feeling of cleanliness at the first sight, especially the floor was not cleaned well(hair everywhere) and the really worst thing was the noise - the windows were at so poor condition that made me feel like there is a party on my own room, not just somewhere outside the hotel. To conclude...if travelling as a wild backpacker coming to enjoy nightlife in Manchester, that place may be ok... but no more for work stays, even as a young person who sometimes travels as a backpacker and is used to stay in hostels.

Review 19:great location, friendly staff

Review 20:Bed uncomfortable. Mattress so thin I could feel the springs. Place in need of redecorating and deep clean. I have stayed in Hatters other hostels in Manchester and Liverpool and this one compares badly to them.

Review 21:Location in Northern Quarter. Staff friendly

Review 22:Room didn't have heating and solution was an extra blanket. Staff were not very helpful and for the price I paid not worth even half of it. Was not even offered a discount due to the heating not working. Cleanliness? I would be shocked if it had ever seen any cleaning. I will never stay here again.

Review 23:Our double attic room was nice and private and surprisingly warm. It even had a TV! The showers and toilets were also quite clean. The location was pretty good too - close to Picadilly station and within walking distance to the amazing Christmas markets!

Review 24:Toilets a but unstable. Sometimes no flushing

Review 25:Funny place in Bulls eye. With high noise from nigtclub to 2-3 am in weekends. But who cares. People are friendly. I had a singleroom with good bed. But don't expect warm water in showers in peaktimes

Review 26:Freezing cold rooms with non-functioning heaters. Freezing cold showers. No lift for customers. Expensive old building with poor insulation and single glazed glass on a busy street.

Review 27:Location and staff.

Review 28:The bed wasn't the best one, I didn't sleep well because of the thin mattress. And the doors are very heavy and loud - which was annoying in the night.

Review 29:Free Wifi, great location, free breakfast includes cereal and toasts and some fruits, tea and coffee :)

Review 30:Room on the 5th floor, no elevators, considering that there's like 30steps between each floor... You better don't forget anything in you room. Toilets and showers are on another floor. Room is looking like an old child's one, with old beds that are completly not comfy. The matress is so old that there was an hole from the shapes of the bodys who slept in.

Review 31:Location near the train station and town center

Review 32:Not very clean, very noisy, no lift for public use (I was on the 5th floor, not fun!), the area the hostel is in is not very nice, not the type of place you want to be around late at night really but it's fine. Wifi is very slow and unreliable.

Review 33:Great hostel for a day stay, very central

Review 34:The mattresses in dorms are not very good. No Lockers in Room. Can be a bit noisy, fair enough, but just to warn those wanting peace and quiet.

Review 35:Great Value. Very Helpful Staff, really helped me on this visit. Great Location and pub crawls, etc.

Review 36:If it wasn't really for the please people in the room, I might have just left. Security wise I felt very unsafe, for examples the lockers were in the corridor not in the rooms. The bathroom and rooms felt dirty and cramped. Didn't just feel right over all. As well as they charged me another stays price after I had left.

Review 37:Unfortunately, all I can say I liked was the staff and location Not much else.

Review 38:Only one power plug in the whole room, poor breakfast but for 20 pounds per night it's ok.

Review 39:I went to the Manchester derby. I was in room with 9 people I never saw in my life. To be honest I was a bit scared in the beginning but I realised the people that come to the hotel are really great. The staff is also very kind.

Review 40:I am really sorry to say that the place is unpleasant in all possible respects; although it looks quite decent and clean on the pictures, in reality it is neither. If you are looking for a private room, there are far better options in Manchester in the the same price range, so do not even try this experience. The staff is very diverse, some of them were really nice and helpful (and smart), some of them not (even if they had a brilliant knowledge of how to get to the Old Trafford, they never ever heard about the tax invoice and refused to print out one). Not to speak about the illusory presence of the lift...

Review 41:Bob Dylan at breakfast and the giant tit mural, which is extraordinary.

Review 42:Too noisy, day and night, not very clean, disgusting toilets, cold showers and without pressure. The single room is very expensive for the quality offered.

Review 43:Excellent location, friendly staff, free WiFi, breakfast included, free earplugs (necessary if you want to sleep).

Review 44:I stayed in a 10 bed shared female room and it was great, everyone was so nice and we ended up becoming friends , great value for money and getting around the town

Review 45:The facilities were sub-standard. There was no personal light and electricity socket in dorm room. The bathroom and toilets weren't very well kept.

Review 46:The location was superb and you get free breakfast. Communal area was spacious and they offer activities.

Review 47:The toilet were horrible The beds smelled No air con, there was no fresh air Breakfast was too early

Review 48:We kept our things in a safe place Good places to sit and relax Value for money Staff were okay

Review 49:No chargers at the bed, doors were very heavy so slammed all night long including door into the dorm

Review 50:Friendly staff, lots of interesting looking events

Review 51:Too noisy (day and night), not very clean, disgusting toilets and annoying showers (and not in every floor), quite pricey single rooms for the poor sleep quality.

Review 52:Excellent location, friendly staff, free WiFi, free earplugs, breakfast included, luggage storage.

Review 53:The venue was not clean there were stains on the curtains in the room and dirt on the skirtings. There was no hot water in the showers on each of the three days of my stay.I had to shower and shave in cold water, a number of other guests also had the same problem. There was a vomit covered pillow in one of the toilets on my floor on the second morning of my stay, and vomit on the door leading to my floor on the last morning of the stay. There was no clean cutlery in the communal dining area on the last day of my stay and I left to seek breakfast in a local Wetherpsoons. On the first night of my stay anorther guest managed to use his card to enter my room whilst I slept fortunately this seemed to be a genuine mistake. There was no welocome instructions and no one could explain where the remote control for the televison was located.

Review 54:The location.

Review 55:The staff was amazing, very helpful, friendly and understanding. This is a great place to meet people from all over and make friends. Common areas are spacious and with plenty of things to do. It may not be a good idea to stay here if you're looking for a quiet place. Also, the building is pretty old so there's always something that's not working (shower, hot water) but it usually gets repaired soon.

Review 56:Didn't shower - other tenants said they were either cold or far too hot. My bed sagged, sheets were dirty, furniture was broken, toilets were blocked, boiler was loud and kept me awake, breakfast was pretty poor.

Review 57:Location is good, reasonable price, staff are friendly, complementary breakfast

Review 58:The facilities need renovations -Windows at my room were cracked and toilets were quite old.

Review 59:It is in the middle of the northern quarter so great for exploring the centre and party weekends.

Review 60:Probably because I bathed at 23:30, I only had 5 minute's hot water, followed by cold water only. If people can't bath at that time, the bathroom should be closed or there should be a notice.

Review 61:really interesting people live together

Review 62:Not a great deal just the toilets i wasn't a fan of

Review 63:First time for me and it will not be the last staff were excellent and the fact that it felt like u were walking into 10countries all at once was amazing.. like the people that stay there.. would be good to have maybe alternative breakfast ie vegan options but overall fab and I will stay again

Review 64:No lockers in the room, had to pay to rent a lock for a locker in the hall. No towels included. The water in shower is barely warm. Instant coffee, toast, and cereals for breakfast. 40 euros for this... give me a break.

Review 65:As it was a single glazed window, for all the three nights I spent at the hostel I was annoyed at each half hour by the sound of a car allarm that went on and off in a nearby parking lot. I have mentioned about this at the reception desk and the reaction was that it was nothing to be done. The young lady I have spoken to only slightly mentioned about the possibility to give me a bed in a different room, less noisy, but she didn't do anything about it. I didn't bother argue anymore but by the moment I went back to my room I said to myself that even if the accomodation was cheap, it is not worth it to return to the Hatters in my future trip to Manchster. And there is more to it. You have a huge problem with the running water at the showers. The water goes hot and cold, hot and cold ... and so on for all the 5 minutes showers I took at the respective establishment. Do something about it. Don't take it personally. Take it as a free advice.

Review 66:24 hours service, quick check in and check out

Review 67:- not clean - bathrooms for M and for W in every second floor - one tap in the shawer --> only hot (really hot!) or cold (really cold!) water alternately

Review 68:nice staff, localization

Review 69:It's friday night but still it doesn't worth £30 for a 10-bedded dorm a night at all. The shower was ok, but the toilets need a DEEP clean. There's only a few sockets in the room to share with 10 people. Staff wasn't rude but not friendly either.

Review 70:Location

Review 71:I had booked for a weekend, a twin room. Dirty and old rooms. Although it is a 5 floors building, it has no lift, so we had to use the stairs till the 5th floor every time we wanted to go to our room. The images representing the twin room, have NOTHING to do with the actual service they provide. I went straight forward to their reception. Their answer to my complains included phrases like: "What do you want from us, having an image for every single room of ours? We never had complains before. Did we provide a twin room to you or not? Have you ever stayed in a hostel before?". See the attached images, and you will see the difference between what they promote, and where I spend my night. Totally disappointed.

Review 72:The location was nice.

Review 73:Facilities were very poor honestly. Showers were either not working properly or extremely cold and honestly didn't give much in the way of privacy. Bathrooms were also pretty run down, no working hot taps on sinks. Common area couches were very ratty and torn up.

Review 74:The location was very convenient and easy to coordinate around, the staff where very friendly.

Review 75:I found the staff quite rude on arrival and the room was very noisy and untidy.

Review 76:I liked the fact in was really close to Manchester centre and the bus station.

Review 77:There is only one possibility to get in - to ring a doorbell. Sometimes, it's noisy inside and staff cannot hear you.

Review 78:Staff offers some events (depending of a day) like free dinner and so on.

Review 79:Beds were not comfortable, toilets and showers on the 3rd floor were out of order for two days, other male bathrooms were on floor 1 or 5, both which had no hot water

Review 80:0 ! Everything. I was about to say the location but it was so noisy. It was the dirtiest hostel I ever stayed in. And I stayed and worked in many hostels. So it's easy to compare. I had to ask to empty the bins in the lady's toilet it was full during days. I mean it's not something that you can miss when you are cleaning. Laziness maybe ?

Review 81:Absolutely nothing ! Worse hostel ever !

Review 82:in the three days that I was there, the bathrooms had not been cleaned once. the rubbish was overflowing and it was disgusting. the mattresses really need to be replaced. i am not usually one to complain but feeling the springs while i tried to sleep, was not pleasant. it is also very expensive for a rather run down hostel.

Review 83:The location was good and the tv room and lounge area were great spots to relax

Review 84:the breakfast was not that good and the plates were a mess cause you can see some stain on it.

Review 85:the staff is really friendly and the location closed to city center.

Review 86:They could install a new shower tap system in the bathroom. Access to the hostels front door could be looked at. A secure keycard to solve that issue.

Review 87:Location is great, free breakfast in the mornings was perfect and free wifi is a bonus.

Review 88:It's a hostel: it will get pretty loud at times, and you can't expect much. The toilets were only cleaned once a day, which means they were dirty by night. All the bathroom facilities were pretty old and didn't always run smoothly.

Review 89:Its location in the North Quarter makes it easily accessible from both main stations, and on foot. The rooms are fairly big for a hostel, and the common room was cosy enough.

Review 90:- dirty rooms, dirty bathrooms, stinky - you have to pay additionally for locks, adapter - few power sockets in the rooms - everything very old - terrible internet, practically doesn't work in the rooms - v. poor breakfast

Review 91:- friendly, helpful staff - centrally located

Review 92:Showers aren't very private, can hear everything in the rooms from outside, lack of power points in rooms

Review 93:It was convenient and cheap. A roof over my head and a bed to sleep on. For the basic needs this hostel meets that!

Review 94:Could feel the springs in the mattress. Only 4 power points to 8 beds. The bathroom facilities could use a touch up as the seem old and run down. Price for 2 nights.

Review 95:The location was pretty good. Spacious room.

Review 96:showers on a different floor. some modernisation needed(noisy).breakfast very basic

Review 97:good atmosphere, right in the centre of manchester.its got the basics.

Review 98:I am really sad to leave the place with the feeling of huge disappointment. I would lie if I said the place is not great. It is, when it comes to people (the guests), it is amazing. But the managing is absolutely ridiculous. I cancelled part of my reservation paid in advanced by cash. When it came to refund, they said they refund only on Debit Card as it is to big amount of cash for them (so what?). Not mentioning, the night before girl told me different thing, that she will pay me back by cash as soon as they have enough cash by the end of the day. Reason why I paid cash and wanted to be paid back by cash was the rate exchange I will be charged when being paid on my foreign Debit Card and I double loos the money when withdrawing again for GBP pound. Nobody seemed to be bothered. I read all the terms and conditions - not mentioned any policy of that kind of circumstances. I asked for the manager - claimed to be busy. I said, unfortunately I will write a complaint and will not leave positive feedback – “We deal with that”. So, I am leaving the place with taste of bad, not helpful and not customer friendly experience. Place claiming to be so open and out of the box was eventually narrow-minded.

Review 99:location mittle in the city, I go the 6. more in this hostel..... that say all..... many greetings we see in the next year to the manchesterpride 2016...... Norbert Braier from Nienburg /Germany

Review 100:Lots of cake or bread crumbs are found on the bedside floor and the bunkbed is a creaky and shaking when the other traveler on the upper bed kept tossing and turning all night long.

Review 101:The location , supermarket is right at the corner and you can walk up to the train station with few minutes .

Review 102:Coming from Finland, it was great to meet people from many different cultures and backrounds. The facilities provided everything I needed and I felt comfortable and safe during my whole stay.

Review 103:Sleeping on my back felt like sleeping directly on wire mesh. Luckily for me, I prefer sleeping on my side anyway.

Review 104:I was pretty much only at the hostel to sleep and eat breakfast, which had decent options. Manchester is noisy, so take advantage of the free earplugs at reception - I slept like a log on the second night!

Review 105:My room was on the mens corridor on the way to the mens toilets. The corridor was very smelly. My room was OK but the noise from below meant that I didn't get to sleep until 3.30 then I was woken again by loud male voices obviosly looking for their beds. This went on for the next three quarters of an hour until in the end I got up etc. Would not stay there again.

Review 106:Hatters is fairly central.

Review 107:The showers: doors of the shower cabins were half see-through, no private changing space, not a lot of water and only luke warm. :/ It was very clean though, and the cabins looked brand new :)

Review 108:Very nice hostel, enjoyed my stay. A great place to meet people, especially in the kitchen or at breakfast. Great facilities: kitchen with space to eat and two lounge areas (one with a big tv). Great location.

Review 109:Location is great - 5 mins walk to city centre. Staff are nice, friendly and very helpful. There's something fun to do most evenings ie pub crawl, games night, city tour etc. Free WiFi is pretty good.

Review 110:Uncomfortable bed, warm/cold shower temp fluctuates. Nowhere in room to store things - lockers in stairwell. No charging location near bed (upper bunk)

Review 111:Cheap bed in good location. Friendly reception staff. Cheap.

Review 112:Two toilets for the whole floor, that were often dirty as hell and constantly missing TP, with the water not functioning for a whole night. Night staff was rude.

Review 113:Close to a lot of interesting places, while not disturbed by the local night owls. The common room looks nice, the day staff is helpful. The WiFi was great.

Review 114:Remember to bring a towel and a hair dryer if you're planning on using the showers. There's outside noise. Not a problem for me: I can sleep through anything.

Review 115:I don't need anything fancy: I'm either working, sleeping, or exploring the city. The bed didn't cause me any problems. The breakfast was plenty for me: I sat there, drank coffee, and did my work using the Wifi provided. It's was easy enough for me to walk anywhere I wanted to go.

Review 116:Hostels have their to be expected discomforts, bring a towel, you may have to climb into the top bunk, you may snore, fellow sleepers may snore

Review 117:I liked the fact that although I was an older traveler the staff's collective jaws did not not hit the counter when I turned up

Review 118:The showers, while I understand utilising the space and building you're given, are quite good, but there isn't any privacy to change. It's essentially a sports-changing room, with frosty screen shower doors. I didn't have to change in front of anyone, but one may have to.

Review 119:As an Australian is was nice to meet friendly, professional Aussies working the hostel. They have great optional interaction with guests in the form of free dinner, or games nights etc. The location to the centre of Manchester is ideal.

Review 120:No power points to charge your phone. There are 2 or 3 in each room shared by more than ten people.

Review 121:Great beds and awesome location. Friendly staff as well.

Review 122:It as beyond dirty. The bed room was okay but the bathroom was atrocious. For one whole day it was unusable because both toilets were clogged and for the entire stay there was no hand soap. I would recommend this place only if there was no other option..

Review 123:Great place to meet other travelers. I traveled with one other friend and we met a lot of different people from all over the world. The breakfast and wifi was good. (although the milk was always warm)

Review 124:I was lead to believe there was car parking, I had to park about quarter of a mile away and my car got damaged.

Review 125:I likes only paying £25, only 48 hours before my stay

Review 126:Read this before you choose this place. Location: ghetto. I thought all of Manchester was so dirty and neglected but no, it's really just this neighborhood. It's way too expensive for what you're getting. The building is so old, the hostel is not clean, the beds are so squeaky and made completely of springs, the room was hot and the outside noise was so loud all night. The bathrooms have medieval toilets and only one was working when I arrived (for the whole floor). The showers are so horrible, really. See through glass doors, lukewarm water, low pressure, on a timer of about three seconds before having to push the button again. I could hear the drainage through the wall in my room. Just awful. The free breakfast is also God-awful. OJ like water, hot milk for cereal, dirty plates and bowls. Just.. No. For 20 pounds a night?

Review 127:Staff is nice. Yeah that's it.

Review 128:It's tough to survive in the Old building. Bathrooms & toilets were on different floors for different sexes, no lifts (6 floors of steps!)

Review 129:Breakfast was provided.

Review 130:Men's shower on our floor was out of order but the one a couple floors down was fine.

Review 131:We checked in after 1am and were received without mishap and with a smile. Breakfast and wifi exceeded expectations.

Review 132:The reception long and dark hair lady wasn't friendly and she didn't want to gave service , made me very sad , she wasn't politeness .

Review 133:The wifi is ok

Review 134:We didn't know that we had to do only one payment, or cash or credit card but only one, so we asked the guy if we could pay the following day ( to get the cash because everybody had the money on the credit cards but not enough for only one payment). His reaction was laughing at me, and say " oh yeah, of course you can pay tomorrow. You sleep outside tonight and you can come tomorrow". And not only that, we were five and we were given 4 beds in a room and 1 alone in another room... I won't go there anymore. The guy was stupid and silly..

Review 135:At least the bed was quite confortable...

Review 136:The night staff were more than just rude, very poor customer service. For just a bed and somewhere to put your suitcase, it was way overpriced, you'd be better off just getting a hotel. As, there at least people will not have access to your luggage.

Review 137:I liked the wifi, the signal was very strong. Also, the bed was comfortable.

Review 138:The price - £25/night is way ott for a 5 bunk dorm. The cleanlinessleft a lot to be desired, especially in the bathroom. Also, shower washot and cold, so bad experience - lucky it is summer, as singleglazing, broken windows and massive space would make it a bleakexperience in winter.

Review 139:Great location and friendly greeting by Oz guy on desk.
