Reviews for Queens Head

Review 1:That we had to leave.

Review 2:Another weekend at our favourite place, amazing location, amazing staff and the best food prepared by Ian - the black pudding king! Thank you again, however damn that cockerel.....

Review 3:Wifi virtually non existent but who needs it when you need to relax.

Review 4:Food was amazing. Lovely country pub/hotel. Staff were extremely accommodating and bar and restaurant service was excellent.

Review 5:This is our 2nd stay at the Queens's Head. We came back as we were so well looked after the first time. The food, accommodation and staff are excellent along with the countryside we love. We plan to visit again next year.

Review 6:Staff seemed a little impersonal and barman didn't know how to pull a good pint of stout. One evening meal was very good, the other (fish) was disappointing, but that can happen anywhere to be fair. Hot water ran out running a bath.

Review 7:Nice village with lovely views across the dale. Good spacious comfortable rooms. Very nice breakfast.

Review 8:Nothing. First visit but will certainly return when next in area.

Review 9:Peaceful location, but very close to many Dales villages. Quaint comfortable pub with excellent dining facilities and amazing food. Beautiful room with a very comfortable bed

Review 10:The food was exceptional!. It was served in a beautiful dining room with a very relaxing atmosphere and lovely views of the countryside. We also loved the cosy bar with it's selection of very good wine and beer.

Review 11:The property was presented very well and was so much nicer then the pictures on the website - a first ! Very generous rooms and such a comfortable bed. Breakfast was really excellent .. With local produce .

Review 12:Location very rural which is fine if you have some where to go after your meal, as this is really just an eating pub after the last people had finished there meals the pub was shut so we couldn't even get a drink & sit and relax so we were confined to our room for the rest of the evening. They only open for meal times then shut so if you want to sit outside & enjoy the view with a drink then you do so on your own as the pub shuts at three & doesn't reopen till six then shuts as soon as the last people have eaten. Also there is no one on site all evening till the following morning so you cant get into the pub till it reopens the next morning. All in all a very quiet & quite an uncomfortable stay we would not stay again as its too bleak. It should say on the website that they are shut most of the time very misleading.

Review 13:Very nice owner, lovely view, ok food, very clean, comfortable big room

Review 14:This is a rural Inn and offers what you would expect. If you like old world pubs, nice and quiet, relaxing then this is the ideal place for a base covering the area. Plenty to see and do, the staff are very welcoming and have time for a friendly chat. The food in the evening was excellent, a good choice of wine and beers and the breakfast as good as we have had anywhere, would definately recommend and would return. Forget the comments on the cockrell - never heard it ! and if we had well your are in the countryside what do you expect.

Review 15:Lights in bedroom too dull but ok.

Review 16:Good food, good beer and pleasant spacious room. We called in a couple of days later with our adult son for dinner and it was just as good on the second visit.

Review 17:Everything was brilliant

Review 18:Excellent hosts with a great understanding of what guests value. Sofa in room comfy for TV, food absolutely outstanding and easily as good as many 'expensive' restaurants we have eaten at, and a totally relaxing environment. All in all a great place to stay!

Review 19:A minor point, but an energy saving lightbulb in a bathroom with no windows means you're in the gloom for quite some time!

Review 20:Room very well appointed and spotlessly clean. Lovely attention to detail.

Review 21:Mattress a bit soft for me but that is a personal preference and not a complaint.

Review 22:Stayed for 2 nights and couldn't fault a thing. Staff very friendly and efficient, room spacious and modern, clean and bright with small settee and plenty of information about the area. Sweets and biscuits a nice touch. Ate in the pub restaurant both nights and food excellent with good selection of fairly priced wines. Breakfast freshly cooked and the fresh fruit plate was fabulous - better than 5* hotel. We will definately be back!

Review 23:The whole of the family room could have been better appointed for the cost of £120 per night.

Review 24:Great location. nice garden area and views over the valley.

Review 25:Maybe add some background music around the dining area, it was like a morgue and felt like he whole room could hear each others conversations. Cockerel !! 4am - take your ear plugs

Review 26:Food was excellent, early bird menu prices very reasonable. Anything you wanted at breakfast - Good place to stay.

Review 27:A warm welcome and a very spacious comfortable room. The menu was very varied and cooked well as was the breakfast! Very difficult to criticize.Would have no problem in recommending this pub/hotel.

Review 28:Excellent room beautiful views excellent food comfortable bed have stayed there before and would do again. I would also recommend it to friends anytime.

Review 29:Lovely comfortable and welcoming, the breakfast was outstanding as was the view from the breakfast room, the room was very comfortable and we had excellent service, would definitely return.

Review 30:Been coming here for years and in our opinion it's the best accomodation/pub in the area. Food is amazing and the staff and location are top notch.

Review 31:Quite simply this is an amazing place, the location is picture postcard and the pub, staff and food are fabulous. My only gripe is I can never get booked in half of the time because its so popular!

Review 32:The friendliness and professionalism of staff. Wonderful New Year dinner and entertainment. Fantastic views. Large comfortable room. Highly recommended. Stay here if you can!!!

Review 33:We arrived at 3pm and although checkin time is 5.30pm we were made to feel very welcome and taken straight to our room. The room was warm and comfortable, and had everything we needed. As I sometime find it difficult to climb step, it was very good to find somewhere that is all on one floor so has no steps. The evening meal was very good, well cooked and presented, but for me it was bit fancy, ( but then I am a pie and chips person ).The breakfast was excellent, and all the staff are freindly and very helpful. Would recommend to my freinds.

Review 34:Smelling bathroom, towels not changed daily, leak from toilet that had been going on for some time as woodwork was damaged. Lighting was poor, they had tried to improve with lots of light but didn't work. Unplug TV to dry hair and the carpets were very dirty.

Review 35:Location, staff and food

Review 36:On arrival the building was in darkness and the front of the building looked to be run down. No welcoming reception area. Bathroom was of poor standard. Cobwebs and dust in bedroom.

Review 37:Evening meal was excellent. Bar area very cosy and comfortable. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Excellent views of the Dales.

Review 38:It was further out of Leyburn than we expected, but that made it a very peaceful location, unexpected but quite welcome. The only other downside was a room with a door that was almost impossible to lock from the outside. Despite this a welcoming place.

Review 39:It's in a beautiful location and the room was really well appointed. The hotel has an excellent restaurant and seemed very popular, but this didn't stop the staff making us feel ver welcome with reserved seating and friendly service.

Review 40:We only stayed for two nights

Review 41:Great location. Friendly helpful staff. Great food and beer. Great atmosphere.the owner Ian and his wife are great hosts. Attentive and friendly,as were the rest of the staff. The chef does an amazing job with the food. It's locally sourced and delicious. The deli platter starter is unique and moreish. Our bedroom (the warren) was huge. A lounge with settee and TV,a double and a twin bed room, with spacious bathroom. The room opens up onto the rear garden......very handy as we had Daisy, our Border terrier with us. I'm glad we found the Queens Head, it will be our go to place to stay in the Dales in future.

Review 42:The hotel looked old and brokenness down, window frames were all damaged looking. The place is filthy in places, carpeting the corridor to the bar in particular which smells nasty. It is being done up slowly

Review 43:Our room was a fairly newly built annexe with a sitting room and bathroom. Also another bedroom which was locked. Kettle etc and home made biscuits nice,as were the toiletries in bathroom. Lovely bedroom. Dining room lovely.

Review 44:My wife and myself have stayed here three or four times per year for the last 5 years and have also gone with friends. The rooms are lovely and the food is also excellent - even for my wife who is vegetarian - Ian is always friendly and happy to adapt the menu for those of us who are fussy or even cook non-menu items providing the ingredients are available. Can't recommend the Queens Head enough whether staying over or just wanting somewhere nice to eat.

Review 45:We had a warm welcome from the owner on arrival. The staff were all very friendly throughout our stay without being overly so. Our accommodation was much more than we expected. It was like we had our own cottage with the hotel on our doorstep. The food was ""excellent"" There is nothing to fault with our stay, excellent food, accommodation and very caring, helpful, friendly and hard working staff who we felt really wanted us to enjoy our time at the Queens Head. "" We Did"" Thank -you. We hope to visit again next year..

Review 46:Everything about the Queens Head was superb, the staff , the food , the rooms . We were made to feel very welcome and we would certainly recommend the hotel.

Review 47:Quaint old pub with old fashioned values. We stayed in one of the 3 rooms at the back, own front door and private, lovely and clean, settee and table as well as comfy bed. Biscuits and sweets provided with the tea tray, brolly on a hook by the door, rubber duck in bathroom, they have thought of everything! Very clean and presented. The food is something else! Staff helpful, nothing any trouble at all. Dinner was great, large restaurant at the back, superb menu, all well presented, quality wines and beer, breakfast would have fed 10 people, they serve you, not a buffet, I had fruit for starters, 11 different fruits on my plate, cooked breakfast all locally sourced, and again huge portions, can't wait to go back

Review 48:There is nothing not to like at this hotel.

Review 49:Pub for the evening meal had a great atmosphere, beer, wine and food fine. The room was spacious and comfortable, very conducive to a good night's sleep. Breakfast in the dining room was superb with the plus of the views over stunning countryside. All the staff were first rate, cheerful and helpful.

Review 50:TV screen was a bit small but hey if that is all that is wrong you have a very good place.

Review 51:Wide choice of food for breakfast and evening meal. Attentive staff and owners. Quiet location. Lots of room space.

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:Stayed here plenty of times over the last few years and it never disappoints. A rating of 9.3 says it all. Just go, you won't be disappointed!

Review 54:NOT A THING!

Review 55:This was our second stay at the Queens Head and everything lived up to our expectations. Ian and his staff continue to provide a friendly and efficient service to their visitors. Finghall is s nice place to stay, away from major traffic routes The fine food was much appreciated.

Review 56:We seemed to have to wait a long time for our evening meal and there was a long time between courses.

Review 57:We loved the size of the room plus the fact that it had a two seater sofa to sit on. There was also a very good sized bathroom. The views across the valley were stunning.

Review 58:Fantastic room very spacious and comfortable. Food was excellent and breakfast was highly recommended. Staff were very friendly and I would definitely stay here again

Review 59:Everything! The staff were really friendly but not at all pushy and happy to leave you in peace if you wanted it. Best cooked breakfast we ever had. Lovely quiet location. Rooms were beautiful and you could exit straight from your room to your car or take a seat on the outside decking area to gaze at the amazing view if you preferred. We would definitely stay again if we were back in the area.

Review 60:No wi fi access but this is not really a criticism as we knew it would not be available before we decided to stay. Just didn't realise how much we had come to rely on it.

Review 61:The owners were friendly and eager to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. We appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities and particularly the jar of delicious biscuits which was replenished daily. The cooked breakfasts were excellent with delicious local produce, freshly prepared. The dinner menu was pretty good too! A good range of meals at very reasonable prices.

Review 62:Nothing!

Review 63:A very comfortable stay. Our room was well furnished and large enough for a sofa which we appreciated. Excellent dinner with a varied menu and breakfast was as good as dinner! Fantastic views

Review 64:All I can say to anyone thinking of booking a stay at The Queens Head is don't think about it, book it, you won't regret it. We stayed for three nights and could have stayed longer. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
