Review 1：I'm sorry to say that the bed was far too hard and the pillows were too thin, so spent 2 nights without a decent nights sleep. Otherwise the room & hotel are very comfortable. I'd only stay again if another room had a better mattress and pillows.

Review 3：We were not able to eat earlier in the evening and arrived back after 10.00pm never the less David provided us with a delicious steak sandwich each. Nothing was too much trouble. We were very disappointed not to be able to take advantage of their great restaurant the menu was fantastic.

Review 9：For the price charged getting half a mushroom and half a slice of black pudding at breakfast is very poor. Also not a wide choice at breakfast. Although there was a desk a dressing table with a mirror would be more functional.

Review 45：Our room had a skylight with no blind, so in midsummer the sun wakes you up quite early. The car park is, as others have pointed out, a challenge.
Review 46：The food and service were exemplary. The owners had clearly thought through their customer service – down to room-specific wi-fi and perfect flowers in the bar area. The bathroom was tiny but carefully thought out. Everything was spotlessly clean. The food was exceptional and beautifully presented, eg, the lamb was cooked exactly as requested – perfectly medium-rare; my breakfast fruit was a work of art; the orange juice really was freshly squeezed. (One odd point – the hotel literature did have the most bizarre use of English.) Treat yourselves! Eat/stay here!

Review 48：The Chardonnay room is worth the small supplement as it is a large, sumptuously decorated room and very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and polite, nothing is too much trouble for them! The public areas and rooms are spotless throughout and the breakfast is yummy!

Review 51：We paid £120 for a one night stay as we expected to eat at the restaurant which is acclaimed. To be told when we arrived that it was closed on a sunday evening and only sandwiches on offer was very disappointing. We have stayed at many hotels and really the room we stayed in was not worth tha price charged. Breakfast was also very poor. Full English was dry and felt as if it had been cooked for a while before being served. In all very disappointing.

Shaftesbury is a small place, so it is easy to walk from the hotel see the sights (countryside views on both sides of town + Gold Hill). The dining experience was very nice, with a waiting drink and reading the menu in the outside garden, and we got a very good table just inside the open doors (a good thing when the weather is lovely). The food was very good, though perhaps not quite as wonderful as expected.

They provide good accommodation with attention to detail. All staff were both friendly, helpful and professional. The restaurant is the jewel, The guys know how to cook and present superb food with an extensive wine list.

For dinner, the cooking, the ingredients and the range of choice are all wonderful, and (unlike some gourmet restaurants) the quantity is fine too. Fantastic value for money. Faultless.
